    I think WoWs is trolling me tonight... The game crashed when I hit Battle for my first game in a Hatsaharu, naturally when I log in again, I find that we won the game and my 50% bonus XP is gone, literally for nothing... I'm not bitter...

    Sadly, it doesn't show in the pic that I took, it only showed in the battle. The 2 bounces I scored were on a Myoko, I never hit the Fubuki (didn't spot it), which shot me, hitting with 2 shells that both bounced. One of the bouncing shells caused the detonation for 11200 odd damage, the other damage was cause by 4 shells from the Myoko I shot at. I should have taken a screenshot of the actual damage... It does appear that WG allows detonations on shots that, historically, wouldn't have had a chance to detonate (bounces, splashes (that don't actually penetrate the ship below the waterline), and shatters). I don't mind being detonated if the shot penetrates, 'cos at least that's historically accurate.

    In reality, the shell would have had to penetrate the hull of the ship, in order to detonate the magazine. Which is basically what WG is trying, poorly, to simulate. A bouncing shell should not cause a detonation, nor should any shell that doesn't actually penetrate. Neither bounces nor shatters should have any chance of causing a detonation. That's the thing that irks me, was that it was a shell that bounced that caused the det.

    I just got detonated in a Kiev, by a Fubuki which hit me with 2 bounced shells and nothing else... I know detonation is a historical thing, and I'm ok with the mechanism - BUT THE SHELLS SHOULD AT LEAST PENETRATE THE HULL TO CAUSE IT!! Needless to say, a little angry at that one. Oh yeah, and also, that was my 20th detonation in 1171 battles, a 1.7% detonation rate. That said, I've used all of the flags in the 19 beforehand, so 190 minimum, plus the ones I got in containers. So really it's over 2%, in cases where detonation was actually possible. I reckon that's well above the norm (I'm led to believe that the norm is more like 1%), delving into the realms of statistical anomaly Sadly the picture doesn't show that both shells that hit from the Fubuki bounced. They did, and the guy that fired them was just as incredulous. WG, at least get the detonation algorithm such that the hit needs to penetrate to cause detonation, 'cos that was bull[edited]...

    Tier V Mutsuki

    Still not as good as the Minekaze, on any level. Guns: 2 on the mutsuki, compared to 4 on the minekaze. Range is slightly longer on the mutsuki, but only by about 1km. This does not make up the difference. Turret traverse is about the same for both i.e. horrible, damage about the same for both Advantage Minekaze Torps: the 2x3 arrangement on the mutsuki is not quite as flexible as the 3x2 of the minekaze. Both ships have the same torp range and damage. Advantage Minekaze Concealment: The same for both ships - stock 6.0km Overall, the Minekaze is still better in all fields, as far as I'm concerned. That's not to say that the Mutsuki is terribad, I can (and have) had some pretty devastating games in it. I've also had some awful games with it, less so than the minekaze

    What do I need to do to improve?

    Well, this is as good an example of a good game (Probably my best) in a Fiji class RN CL: I haven't turned replays on yet... I keep forgetting! This was one of those games that was more or less lost from the start. By the time I managed to Cap the C point (there was a big fight for it, lasted for about 6 - 7 mins), our DD was gone, and the enemy held A & B, the lead in ships killed, and was outscoring us about 600 to 200 on points. I was solo warrior for about the last minute against a Gneisenau, North Carolina and CV (Taiho). Also, I was lowest tier in game, so all in all, I'm not sure I could have done any more? I couldn't have contested the cap earlier without getting killed, and it took me and the others remaining at the C cap probably too long to secure it. Team at A got their arses handed to them, by the looks of it. Nonetheless, it was fun regardless of win or loss

    I just had a guy in a Belfast ask his team to report me (Mutsuki) for having the temerity to kill him through good play on my part, and poor play on his. Apparently dodging is not allowed... ;) ON the bright side, was my first decent game in a McSucky... 45k damage off of 4 torps, 2 kills (Belfast and Myoko). Still died towards the end of the game though.

    I'd just like to say thanks for all the replies, there's a ton of useful stuff in there. I think the main thing I really need to improve on is trying to not die so early in games... as has been mentioned, the longer I'm in a game, the more likely I am to get better scores for everything else. I'm gradually learning what fights to pick, and what to run away from, but that will take time. Also still really need to work on not getting focussed! Fun times

    Yeah, I do this. All the time. I tend to play multiple ships on any given session, as I'm currently grinding destroyers of all kinds, and the RN CL line. I occasionally play BBs (I find the BB playstyle extremely boring), and almost never CVs... I do quite badly in the Mahan because of this - I think it suffers the most because of trying to grind through the Trashkent... the fire arcs are just so different. That said, I'm a lot better (perhaps not in terms of stats, but it feels like it to me) in the RN CLs. I suspect I also do relatively poorly in the Mahan as I made a new 3pt captain for her (Farragut Captain will go into Benson, Steven Seagull will then go into Farragut, unless I gets me a Missouri (unlikely)) You'll probably notice that my max damage in any one game (and max average damage) came in a Minekaze, my max average XP is in the Ognevoi. Ignore the BBs that are at the top of the tree, as they're statistically irrelevant with 3 battles each. I'm starting to get better as I take the information you've all given me - I still need to improve massively on my survival rate, and that will also boost the other scores, the longer I survive. It does worry me about how bad some other players must be, given that I'm a below average player, and: a. Usually deleted within the first 10 minutes of a battle b. Almost always within the top half of the score table for my team c. Often within the top 3 of the score table, and reasonably often 1st or 2nd scorer, for my team I also tend to find I get better stats at the weekends

    The last 2 or 3 months, maybe as many as last 6, I've been running premium. I'd thought that the warships today stats only used the base (unmodified by premium or any other additive factor) XP? Guess I was wrong in that assumption! Pretty sure I wasn't premium around the time I had the Gnevny and Ognevoi though, and my stats are pretty good for those two in all categories. Maybe tier 5 - 6 (or 7 in the case of the Fiji - Love that ship!) is my natural level in terms of ability?

    I certainly can't get much worse in the Mutsuki... ;) Actually, that's the wierdest one for me - I can Isokaze and Minekaze with the best of them, but with the Mutsuki (granted it's a low sample size so far, but still...), it just doesn't seem to work for me...

    I've watched a fair few of Flamu's and Notser's youtube videos. They've helped in quite a few ways: helped me get my main battery hit rate up no end (learning how to use the dynamic range finder on the binoculars was extremely useful), helped with torps and smoke too, I do still struggle with minimap and own ship state awareness though! However, much as I try, I can't Flamu... I try to emulate his aggressive style, but always seem to over-commit, or get focused by the enemy, or end up (especially in DDs) contesting a cap on my own after the rest of the team has upped and left me... Also in high tier radar is the bane of my life... I just can't seem to shake it and get obliterated in short order. But I guess that's all a part of learning to better use the minimap and other tools at my disposal!
