  1. If you are botting 3XP missions you are beyond stupid, that is the time to play with lots of special flags for maximizing Freexp and such.

    the "carry harder!" thread

Annoying defeat, we lost by a few points as the enemy had built up a cap lead. Think we lost with 15 p or so when the time run out so very close, in that sense a quality game but it is typical when you for once deliver in DD which I not so often does, well I win more than my damage warrants so It is sad when you get good dmg results + caps etc that you do not win.

    Increasing WR% while grinding.

Grind the stock in the ship in coop or FreeXP if you have, but since you are new play coop, grind a few lines so that you take advantage in the First win bounus, the coop grindfs on higher tiers are pretty long, which for a veteran with lots of FreeXP is not a problem but for you it is. I play coop in stock grinds today also as I want the expensive FreeXP premiums. Do not advance too fast generally at say T5-6 you want a 10 p captain on your ship, tactics for that depends on if you are a collector or just sell lower tier ships and move the captain. But in general grind the captain in coop or with Elite XP that you get when you reach your first 19 p. Elite Xp are sometimes given in missions or i events with fantasy/scifi ships where you get 19 p captains connected to these events, might be useful to play in such events which do not count vs stats but gives elitexp even if you do not have "normal" 19 p captains. Sometimes you can buy with doubloons/coal 10 p captains, Remember that when you reach mid/ high tiers many of your opponents play with fully researched ships and at higher tiers many have 19 p captains. At mid tiers there are less, but still some have the experience hack. Even with equal skill this tiny advantages adds upp to a 100 vs 115 ship or so. The key to the 10 p is the important CE skill. But if we take a worst case a stock nagato f.e. vs a full kitted ship w several signal flags and 19 p captain is a huge difference , maybe like 100 vs 200 or even more if you would have played a number of games. With players of equal skill it will be on rare occasions that the stock ship wins. So advance in slow but steady pace and take your time. DAlso play differnt lines and countries so you get familiar with your opponents. I have played a huge number of battle s and I have reached my plateau now I think, with my play/grinding habits. If I would improve it would need a specialisation on shps , I play too many for getting better stats, also ships that does not suit me at all..
  4. With one day to go, i have done the two RN ones and I probably get the US BB one for Alabama, no more I am way off a 4th that one not even second stage finished. Despite that I have played a lot. But I have permacamos for the premiums obviously so not so important. In hindsight I should have played differently, but I want to play not to different from normal. I play for fun so the prizetag vs effort is not worth it, but as i do not value them high I just ignore it. I rather spend money on more ships than camos.
  5. Realistically you must choose 1 or 2 that you want as the third stage is base XP, first 2 if you have done that during weekend is tolerable with lots of flags but then.. will settle for 2, tops 3.
  6. Yes there are a few examples, I agree on that , but I prefer to have them assigned to a silver anyway. If you have a 19 p for Massa you can have that captain placed on Wyoming f.e. as a silver ship. Ofc if there is only Premiums in a line there is nothing else to do btw like Nuevo D Julio or European line before the Swedish DDs.
  7. Played a Jutland game and we won comfortably without reflecting over any special good or bad play from myself, as usual solo. Suddenly near the end our Naptune thanked me for spotting, well always happy and I suddenly looked at my score and it was 199K. For me as a solo player I have seldom reached over 100. So I wonder what players in good divisions are consider good, 250? 350?. I realized this benefited from me lying in front , no CVs and other players rather passive which played thae game as I and Neptune played very coordinated without actually planning it, more than I try to spot as best that I could. So any idea? Sadly I did not have the mission in the Swirski campaign turned on.
  8. I think you have misunderstood the question. The spotting damage is relying on you spotting and noone else, I have seldom paid any attention to it as I try to do my job, but I have seldom seen that number as I do not play in divisions. I always play to win, whether anyone is farming damage in my spotting is irrelevant, that is not what I ask for. I am just curious of the figure, is it a high number or is it nothing for a division/or other players. As it is sometimes like now a requirement in tasks, but almost never before has it been in a single battle , normally just accumulated through several battles = coming automatically after some games.
  9. Well that is the situation for all games at the moment....
  10. Wel it remains to be seen, i have all the LUs except 2, but they are hardly necessary even though some are good, I do not think that decides if you play or not as a new player. You have so many lines and ships to research so that enough is quite daunting, but can otoh giving the choice of your nation.
  11. Yes, I bougth two boosters and grinded PR. As a collector I deduced that this was the way to go. However the exterme anger that was felt in the forum and elsewhere towards PR made me play it almost zero games, I think I have 3-4 Coop games or so, Benham I have no such problems with. Even though it was some critique at least it was not felt like kill PR on sight even if it is in my own team. On more regular comment: I have had enough steel for 1 ship and I chose the Stalinggrad. When WG decided to pull Flint, Black and Neutr. and made them accesible for (a certainly high coal number), I started to came into the regions of aquring these but now I am not target any specific, have around 15.000 steel and do not like arms race so we will see how long it takes to next ship and which it will be. Yes take Bourgogne, but i have never liked the under-calibre plenty gun shot gun approach enough for 30000 steel that this is the given choice. We will see how the many ships in test phace will distribute themselves over the too many currencies.

    IJN premium

At T8 Atago. Usable even as a BB trainer as you have heals (SI). Old but still usable and with the dual lines (BB, CA) trainability useful, and very good trainer if you like the IJN cruisers playstyle. Try do the honorable campaign. later for DDs (you do need T8 several but you can redo the tasks (no rewards more than one but you get the stars) https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Honorable_Service Final reward is the T6 DD Shinonome which is quite OK. Even if its take time you can have suitable tasks that are slowly fixed while you play as usual. Otherwise Harekaze as have been mentioned when it is in the shop. Recommended as others have said. Besides the T4 Ishizuchi as a captain trainer is surprisingly good, one of the ships that I have played most. Cheap, but it is not useful for missions.

ROFLstomp in Progress: What do you do?

Interesting take on this topic. Depending on ship and ev. missions even a stomp can be profitable, credits seem less influenced by a win so it is important to continue play for credits and achievements also. At least even if a few DDs go at the start they might be unlucky/bad players and the enemys bad players are yet to be sunk so even if 2-3 ships are lost i do not give up, it have to go some time in the game so do not despair too early. Missions f.e. number of his, drawing spotting damage, tanking etc. needs time to accumulate so why no using the "lost" games also. If you kite and tank you can in some ships draw out the game and if you are lucky kill a few ships, which may restore balance. I have won fights 2 vs 8 by kiting (and my teammate slipped through and capped their base), rare and extreme but throw away games happen often enough that it is worth to fight. Naturally you increase the risk taking if you can do so.

    I'm doing horribly on Izumo

Fully upgraded she is quite OK, I am not sure if the shells change from stock to fully upgraded, but I have regrinded IJN 3 times and have FreeXped past the stock ship to fully graded and I have now a 19 p on her , have gone fron terrible to tolerable stats in the process (disregarding my first games during the first Izumo grind they are quite good). I start to even like the ship. I have struggled more with Amagi. But she is very clumsy and a large target so paying attention to minimap is essential. Gun ballistics feel very comfortable.
  15. Voted Maybe, I have all the other FreeXp ships, but 2 M FreeXP is too much for fantasy, Småland is in my hometown so therefor I had to buy it, but even for me, I have around 1,2 M freeXP after Småland took me down to 400+ and it takes time to recover. It is too many ships around that we do not know what they will be, so sometime in the future if there is nothing else, but not at the moment.

Tier X Gameplay is worst than ever - what are doing WG ?!

I would absolutely disagree Why? Simply because one large group of the playerbase are interested in warships and now compared to when I started the number of lines and ships are staggering. If it takes ages to reach Missouri Bismarck Yamato it will be negative for player recruitment. It is not that I see your concerns it is that this is a niche game that is quite difficult to master for a beginner now when large parts of the playerbase are mature with high end captains and myriads of ships. I know most key ship perimeters in my head but this because I am interested but also that I have played almost from the start learning and adding 1 line at a time. So I think many are having unrealistic expectations. And WG do have tutorials and they are plenty of content. So in this case I think that compared with the start where you even if you searched more or less only had volunteer contribution you now at least have some WG production to watch. And to be fair it is to be expected that a niche game like this are quite communitydriven regards tactics and information. You have the forumites but lots of playes in any online game will just play for fun and not taking it too seriously, WOWS playerbase is simply too small to divide and make Tiers exclusive. You have to learn the hard way , nothing else is realistic. Problem is also when you as a player matures you see the mistakes etc at the beginning there were more equality and less mechanics to learn. I have myself settled around 55%+ and do not think I can manage so much more unless I just play the ships I am good in and not grinding some ships that I do not like but now plays for collection purposes. But i prefer play for variety rather than creep up a few %, after all this is recreation not professional work.

Which T8 premium would you pick?

Atago, Albama, Massa, Bayard are my bets today, Lenin maybe Cossack

    Line reset

I am not sure if I misunderstand you but I am pretty sure when I did my reset on the IJN Gunboat line that you went down to lowest tier (not T5) only way is probably to reset both DD lines at the same time and do Isokaze twice. You save FreeXp but you do not start from the split you keep the higher ships in the other line but not the ones below splitpoint. Regardless of that the performance joy factor is important. I have reseted 2 DD lines so far IJN Gunboat (ready) and RN DDs (now at T8) + IJN BB 3 times, RU BBs twice, French, US once (ready), and RN BBs (now at T9). Given that i want to preserve FreeXp for the expensive FreeXP ships I do some stock grind in coop, I think there the DDs shine as they are more constant in performance and less boring (well they are boring but I call a friend and discuss politics and soccer etc for two hours and after that you have made progress automatically). But when I stack lots of special flags I know I sadly perform better in BBs (less catastrophes) so DDs take s longer time as I do not want to be too generous w special flags as it s more efficient to really stack XP flags for max FreeXP. But i have a longer term goal, the IJN DDs was played during 2 resets, mentally and the BBs I try to do in one RB reset period. Wonder what i do next new period in may as I have now both Ohio and Colbert and all LMs excepr for the Cvs which I fix during the year the old-fashioned way. We wills see if the "missing" LM for the other T10s will come or new ships. I think I will settle for at least the double reset (1 line) but not much more if no new ships are coming.
  19. My best game so far in Östergötland, 17 torps and pitiful damage asexpected , my teammate in Öland considering he is T8 had a great game was on the other part of the map. My impression so far is that damage you do but it is not that easy to get the kills always, in this game i had quite passive team BBs which made me almost alone sometimes in front setting a toro or 2 here and there and gradually wearing the ships down. So admiittely I did what I could but enemy ships were not thar good, sometimes you had diff hitting ships even (= players who knows WASD) but this game for Öland and myself were in essence the result by two passive BB teams. It helped that I killed one enemy DD instantly in the game. It is a sort of denial /defence DD. I have had far more difficulty when the need is to contest and go forward., but often there is noone else or gamesituation demands it or you lose. The game was a good step forward in solving the flooding mission in Campaign stage 2. I have therefor played Östergötland and Småland a lot these last 3-4 days. The combination of winning the flooding games have been irritating sometimes. I had more flooding success with Östergötland than Småland.

    Lost my achievable goals.

Better value to FreeXP to T10? But you miss large parts of the game by doing that. Many fun ships in lower/mid/tiers too. Better value in Småland to get max amounts of ships
  21. Gnirf

    Lost my achievable goals.

So far as a collector I have it easier as I keep all ships, and have a goal of 10 p captains minimum on each silver ship, which I have except a few which I grind or have accepted less, Novik f.e. where I have 9 BFT instead of CE and have no desire to go for 13. I have also reseted lines to get Ohio and Colbert and to increase the number of high end captains, the 10 p goal is higher the further up you go. For T10 the ultimate goal is 19 and T8, T9 14 at least. Ships down below which I like shall also have 19 f.e. I have placed my kuznetzov on Izmail and Yamamoto on Fuso. Halsey is more normally on Montana. So if you want more goals get your captains stronger and more silver ships in port. Doing the campaigns etc. Right now my immediate goals are: Get that Polish campaign captain fixed place him on Halland and train him for 19, As a Swede I want a Swedish captain on Halland but as his skills are excellent i will first get him to 19 on Halland and use him on Blys, Friesland and Småland. After he is on 19 I start a Swedish captain on Halland as the Polish captain should be placed later on a Polish ship when a suitable silver DD is presented that is Polish. Get the Pan EU DD captains on 10 p, so far only Skåne, Öland + Östergötland at 14, rest in grind phase - Note does not mean play all until 10 but accumulating elite XP for most parts even though I play the also in coop before 10p , The low tiers (T3-4) I play in random a few times regardless - it is my countrys DDs after all. Get Venezia, Daring and Harugumo on 19, the later 2 are at 17/18 but Venezia only at 10. Get ready with the CV Legendary upgrades before end of year. Start 1-2 resets every RB cycle. If you have ranked goals you can add these I do not bother that much with that. Maybe you can find some inspiration in my goals and mindset However I am a naval history and warship buff not a gamer which makes it easier to just enjoy watching the nice models - I think that is also why I keep all ships. I have played all tiers but very seldom below T5 nowadays, only in new lines resets + very rare returns. The mission constructions on T5 have ensured that + it is easier to grind a captain by elite XP on a suitable premium /high tier ship. I have not even played Nikolai much the last year only a few games. When you have above 340 ships you do not have time to play even the ships that you like because of other grinds so it is many ships that are not touched even though I might enjoy them in port f.e. Mikasa and Dreadnought.

    Few clarification required

WR . I sort of agree but I want to have a little different perspective. I have been slightly above average all my career 55%+ but if I see your explanation although it may seem clear, i think there is things that you miss. You might well have as I think I have by playing nearly all non-Cvlines a understanding of all these things but on average I have a tendency to play worse than a 60% player, but that does not mean that you by using XVM and see my stats - that person knows or does not know that. I have had games that I do every step good but it is more likely I judge a situation wrong (than a 60% player) but that does not mean I do/or do not understand a particular game aspect, or that in the game I am in your team that I fail to support or choose the wrong way or aim worse, I would not have my top scores in various ships if I was useless. If you have lots of games and are in the 40% region - well you can draw more conclusions but if you have played a lot and have decent results you might well perform supergood as the Unicum might risk to make wrong moves sometimes too. But I have no problem with using WR as judgment figure and I do understand stats. But I have chosen not to have stats before game as I might make the wrong decisions based on enemy player stats rather than game itself. So saying that a 50% WR player has no real contribution is wrong as he over a number of games will have some games that he performs very well, some games average and some bad. At least if I go on my own games, I have fortunately few catastrophic games , lots of average, some good a few excellent, depending on tier and ship. Some ships I perform good in a high percentage of games, some more seldom but as a Collector I want them all. So that this average 50%-players actions are middle of the road is not same thing that he performs average in your game. If you have 1 foot in 70 Degrees water and 1 in zero the average should be comfortable . Also think of football trainers - they might be good at understanding the game but can not perform themselve, or as I do play solo, which is slightly more difficult (it is deliberate). Others may be excellent in aiming but are no team players and the team will rely on their aiming rather than support in actual gameplay. It is a little like you play your kutuzov, Your value to the team is seldom a team players contribution but if you can position yourself and use your smokes to burn enemies for huge damagenumbers - yes it is not perhaps teamplay in a broader sense but with huge enough damagenumbers you do contribute. It is like a Conqueror with 50000 dmg is probably bad but if he has 200000 he is of great use provided other ships take use of the pressure that brings. Also on individual ships the WR might be very old. I played for example Izumo, before the buffs , grinded all hulls etc, Freexped finally in desperation, it was my first BB line back inthose days when there were only US and IJN ships. Long time my record stood at 37 % WR on 43 fights and 16 W/27L. But since RB arrived last year I have reseted IJN BB line 3 times, FreeXped the Izumos stock things but grinded the rest. Now I have on 120 Games 63W/57L. That is 77 fights 47 W/30 L during last year which is a complete different figure so that is another reason why it might be dangerous. Think of if you would have use XVM or similar on my first figures or on my recent form.
  23. Well its built F2p, but P2P= Pay to progress and P4C=Pay for covenience It is free to play yes and you can play low/mid tiers to sustain your play easily, but in order to buy the expensive silver high tier ships and sustain high tier play you need to perform extremely good if F2Pand to have a premium account is not that expensive. It is decent prized yearly premiums for sale around christmas (50% discount earlier which makes the cost maybe 0,10-0.15 EUR/day. Somehow they need to make money. That is not saying that you need to splash out money left and right if you participate in events you get a lot for free, but in order to enjoy the game fully premium account is recommended. That you find high tier premiums expensive I have no problem with, different people have different means like students. I think of the game as entertainment cost /hour and compare my outlay with Beer , whisky, movies, travel concerts and other things that is non-lasting pleasure i.e. not a tangible goods. Therefor I have set a money limit vs time spent in the game, as you can see on my battle number it is many hours so I sort of can defend my outlays in order to progress faster and pay for convenience. Now I belong to people that have a decent job, earlier when I started in WOWS more than 4 years ago I was unemloyed so then I had to think like you and played almost only low/mid tiers. So if you can afford it play premium if not I have no problem with it but then you have to play low/mid tiers to finance high tiers. Try to accumulate coal for the T9 freemiums. They are creditearners.

    RN Heavy Cruisers or DDs?

I have a slightly different view of the RN DDs, I have gone to T10 and reseted them, and are now back on T8. i enjoyed T9 Jutland a lot even though she has been slightly nerfed. I enjoyed the RN smoke as it is short duration fast reload, combined w hydro this is fairly (in comparison w other DDs) well suited against CV attacks as you can use them for defence against AC. The RN DDs becomes better the higher up in the tree you go IMO. RN cruisers I am only at T8 so I will not judge them but RN DDs I sort of like. Single torps are useful (Cruisers have it too).
