Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

Had @Verblondeon my team in his Småland just now in ranked bronze division and we won a solid unspectacular game, reasonable teamplay and focusing enemy DDs made it a clear win. -
New French Cruisers have been announced. Do they have any actual basis in reality? Even as blueprints or concept designs?
Gnirf replied to XDMeloniXD's topic in General Discussion
The capital ship (according to WNT) was a ship above 10000T/8 inch guns and not larger than 35.000 T and 16 inch guns. All 5 nations had limits on total tonnage, but France and Italy with substantially lower total tonnage had the freedom to utilize the tonnage how they wanted numberswise. Therefor the 17.500T. This meant that 4 17.500 T=70.000 T could be built together with 3 x 35.000 =105.000 Toatl 175.000 which was France and Italys allowed tonnage. RNs interwar smaller designs were done if the higher limit would be restricted further f.e. to 12 inch guns and 25.000 T. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Naval_Treaty- 46 replies

Gnirf replied to XDMeloniXD's topic in General Discussion
When I look in my French Battleships 1922-56 book the 17.500 T Ship is described as Navire de Ligne and the later larger designs were Croiseur de Bataille. On p 26-27 a ship of 23.000 T is defined as Croiseur Protegé. Regardless of definition, they would all be included in the capital ships category of WNT (above 10.000 T). The 17.500 T is pretty spot on Invincible the first battlecruiser that also had 8-305 mm (12 inch) guns. For those interested there are small articles in Warship 2017 (In Warship notes) Early designs for Dunkerque with 1 turret forward and 1 aft and in Warship 2011 a full article on The Croiseur de Bataille 37.000T by Jordan/Dumas who have continued their archive research. Sadly none of these brings more light to the 17.500 T Design and I have seen no other article on this.- 46 replies

[POLL] Will you participate in "Lighthouse Auction" for Gremyashchy (10.000 Doubloons MIN) and 100K Coal (25M Credits MIN) ?
Gnirf replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I have the Gremy since I have got her in Santas crates. I have played Gremy a few times the latest months and still find her strong and might be worth getting for other players but the starting bid of 10.000 kind of defeats an auctions purpose. I am pretty sure that the number of whales are enough for 10.000 but you lose the factor of making a bargain. The starting bid should have been 3.000 or so and if the endprize would have been 12.375 it is another matter. It would also have been more interesting if let us say 1 hour before auction end the bottom winning bid was revealed. I have always find auctions pretty fun, whether online or in reality. I have won/bought lots off stuff in auctions on f.e. ebay but then you get the sense of bargains. WOWS auctions is a good idea but not implemented to my taste. Is it worth 10.000 doubloons? Well no, if you do not want it for collecting purposes. Will you have fun playing it? Maybe. I answered Yes on the Coal but it is a theoretical Yes because I know that I will bid far below the endprize. If I remember correctly the winning prizes have gone up steadily for the coal andcrossed the 100 M line last time. I will bid 40-50 M or so just in case that the prizes do slump (0,0001 % chance) so that I do not regret it afterwards. So Yes but in practice No as I know it is a bid that will not be successful -
It is not fun to play as a open water cruiser against 6 BBs either. Considering that BBs is so popular I wonder if a BB only mode a few time s a year would be viable?

Problem is that overall that the 50% is an average WR saying that a player does on average neither contribute or destroy the team chance. That is true on average but the practical matter in the particular game can not be interpreted as such. In the threads about this we have often said that roughly 3 games you can not win 3 you win regardlesss and 4 is decided by your performance. If i look at my performance (55% overall) I know that it feels like that but on the other hand you have some where you do the right desicions and play well and some you do the wrong. So the 60% unicum will not know if you will perform like a 55% the average result or like a 60%-65% or like a 45% in the individual game that is at hand. Like wise the 45% can turn up a really fantastic game just the particular game that we are playing. it is far less likely but it is not impossible. The ranges of skill if you would have seen only 1 game the particular game you play varies. I remember when I played chess in a low level competetive environment (rating between low 1400- low 1500) around 1980 when these points were slighly lower than today. I played in a chessteam (I may have been between 12-16 or so) and with some limited theorethical knowledge in openings etc so I had left the pure beginner stage. However I have saved a few protocols from a few games that I really played well. i remember a game where I faced an opponent ranked about 100-150 points above me, that was about the limit that you could go in with at least some chance of success, if the opponent did not blunder (and played far below his standard). About 300 in difference you could at best hope for Draw but normally even if you played at your standard you would make a mistake and lose. But in this game I somehow managed to get after some 25 moves in a seemingly even (to me) position a situation where I could do a long sacrificing line with several pieces involved which was far above my normal play which completely destroyed the opponent and I remember getting praise from old players in the club that was nearly the top (at 2000+ level) who played team matches in a higher divisions at the same time. I played in third team while they played in first. I still remember that moment 40 years after it happened. This shows that you can though it is not likely perform very good in a single game provided that you have reached a certain level. So the unicum is smart to not rely on his team, but should be smart enough that even average players can perform very good in the single game and not take bad/average performance as given as the game unfolds. It would be interesting to know if the distribution curve of players performance in individual ships follow the same bellcurve as players win rates or if the distribution patterns are much wider. I have some ships that I play and still potato really hard in far too often and still do well sometimes and some ships that I almost never play badly in. And it is the same ship class even. However I have not analysed my own performance on that level in hard numbers, just on the ship level as an average.

Premium recommendations: Scharnhorst or Cossack?
Gnirf replied to The_Joker_1's topic in General Discussion
I have so many ships and these two are among them but I have not played them much the last couple of years. If I would have to pick one now it is the Cossack. Why: Both are historically significant Both have been sold as model kits by Airfix (had them both) so it is a tie there but I think that a lot of Scharnhorst with the new German BC line with really long range torps have made Scharnhorst less attractive but it is still a historical ship so both are viable. But I think that Cossack is a nice alt to the RN DD line , you trade torp power for good gun power and is therefor different in gameapproach. But both ships are amongst the more interesting premiums , but I prefer real ships compared to paper/fantasy so that is an autoplus for these two compared with someone who sees only the game factor. -
Survey about recommending the game to someone else
Gnirf replied to nerderklaus's topic in General Discussion
There are lots of things in WGs handling of the game that I do not like however there is still possible to have fun in the game especially if you are interested in naval history. The art department is great and I do think that the fast 20 min max fights are quite good if you are on a limited time. You can have fun without spending much if you are not on my level of grind/collecting disease. I read in many posts the desire for playing other games but I do not, I have played lots of hours in video/pc games but on a very limited number of games. I do not think that any other on earth have played the original Master of Orion more (if you have played more then you would have played 10-20 hours weekly for 20 years). I have a vast library on military matters mostly warships and hundreds of model kits so the subject is spot on for me. Will there be a successor in the future? That remains to be seen, but other games per se in other genres does not interest me, if I quit Wows there is more likely no new game that takes it place for now. Therefor if I recommend the game or not is more dependent on the person, interests etc. To say that the game is so bad that you only recommend it to people you hate, that I simply can not agree with. Some things are bad some are still good, but I would explain what to expect honestly. -
I am not sure if I just misunderstand but Vesuvius near Naples is the same volcano that Pompei was close to.

Thx all 5 were accepted though I had to type in the Sausage manually, we will see what they give when I log in

[Poll] It has been 1 year since the last "Commander Skill reconstruction" (and switch from MAX 19 -> 21) - how many 21-point captains do you have now?
Gnirf replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
When the rework was introduced I had 59 19 p , I have managed to bring 26 to 21, problem is that those below that are extremely far off so when I have raised the many of the 19s to 21 I am not sure how many that I will raise of those in newer lines where you start from 10 or so. Have around 5 M Elite XP but it gains slowly as I try to get the newer lines T8 to at least 14. I have also used the credit method of producing elite XP. See figure below yellow is 19 Green is 21. As you can guess many lines w lower captains than T10 on 21 have been reset a few times. -
Well I am surprised that steel have not been included in the auction yet. If I remember correctly 100 000 coal have went for 80-100 M Credits. So say 10.000 Steel? Both for credits and doubloons, guess that the credit surplus would be wiped out in notime.

Make ranked based on personal performance not based on random monkeys
Gnirf replied to Panzer_Guido's topic in General Discussion
Well many players stay in ranked bronze because you play for the 9 wins/season and steel rather than to rank out so there are both good and bad players there -
idea introducing ramming ribbon or achievement
Gnirf replied to VedranSeaWolf359's topic in General Discussion
It depends, say that you are 2 vs 1 in ranked and you get the chance to ram the remaining enemy do you ensure your victory with the ram or risk not winning, sure if the enemy can not run or so but I can think of many situations. It can be that you have overextended or somehow misplayed where a ram might be the best option. However most common in coop, if there is only 1 enemy left that I can realistically sink I might ram ensuring max damage for my self deprivning other competing members the rest(naturally not if we are losing the game). That does not mean that you are wrong just that it sometimes can happen that the general rule does not apply. -
[Poll] Did you use the "Single-Use Coupons" = 25% OFF that lasted just for the holidays?
Gnirf replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
No bought enough crates to get all Premiums in the boxes so no need for more - they will come in the next years boxes and none is interesting enough before -
I want to augment my earlier answer a little: The target audience is also players that have more money than time and want to prioritize other lines. It is easy to forget that we now have 30+ lines and, now talking in principle say the German BCs you grind other lines and want a jump start at this line the cost might for a part of the playerbase seem logical. I can look at myself, I have mostly satisfied myself with the free crates early access, with the exception if I remember correctly Swedisg DDs where I whaled a lot, partly because I thought the crates there were better structured in the tokens part and gave the perma camos for even the T10 so it was interesting, and a few others where I have bought a few boxes to get the T8 if it is a limited number of boxes and a reasonable content (i.e. special flags). However f.e. the RU CVs the step to T10 was done by FreeXP because of not wanting to play CVs other than in extremely limited quantities. The subs I have when the release will come planned to use FreeXP as well. So for players that do not have the time and grind everything the early access can also make sense. Permacamos etc. Especially when the shown bundle is an interesting one. In RU CVs I had the "luck" to get the T10 Perma camo and German DDs was also good at the start so it depends. Dutch and German BBs nothing. I play 15-30 hours weekly and with my regrinds I just keep pace of the RB ships. I have been playing since the start so a player that started a few years in is at a severe disadvantage. Sure they can pay for FreeXP conversion but that is for me the same as buying early access. I am here not discussing the problem of newbies buying their way up to higher tiers but relative veterans with decent jobs that find it practical to cut the time needed, it would be interesting to know what kind of players that do buy early access if they do it regularly, partly or the whole way, streamers aside. Personally I prefer if there are no special camos or so (like with the Swedish DDs) to buy special flags which accelerate my play rather than skipping it. So I rather buy bundles where the tokens are supplemented by such flags if the prize is reasonable. You then get the captains strength necessary also. Yes the Sclieffen prize in the auction seems excessive, but apparently the player base seems quite rich and I am not that surprised and just like you say @SirDixie we should be glad as F2P players does not bring cash to the developers other than indirectly.

Sure, but I can think of players that streams and therefor needs viewers (and profit) have some justification.

Why does the WG not take player statistics into account?
Gnirf replied to xKrisgard's topic in General Discussion
You know anything of theory in statistics? It is pretty obvius that over large enough sample the only common thing among the players in your fight is you. But that also means you will have streaks of matches where the 12 players of the opposite team is stronger than your teams other 11 players and vice versa. I have followed the almost neverending threads in your style over the years (and I have been an active player since a few weeks from release) with samples like your picture which proves absolutely nothing. Your win rate will over enough games reflect your strength, I have hovered roughly at the same level of WR for ages it goes up a few 10ths of a percent and then down a few tenths depending on what ships I play i.e. when I regrind a line/ a new line that I do not play well in or have less developed captains or does not suit me it goes down and vice versa if I play ships that I like. But I have been overall roughly the same i.e. an indication that the teams even out. Also that naturally you can have bad luck over quite a lot of games, as the players are many a few will be outliers, but that is a statistical axiom not anything wrong. Say that you make 1000 coinflips, the average will be 500 each side, but given enough people some will have outlying results. I will not calculate for you the number of players necessary to get an outlier on 600 or 550 on 1 side but there are formulas for such numbers should you want to look them up. I recommend you not to bother with such MM monitors if you do not understand statistics it will not do you or anyone else for that matter anything good. I know players that use them for info - it is up to them if they use it that way , but to use them as you do , getting a few samples proving your point (which they do not) is not healthy for gaming experience. I play to win, just checking the lineup if there are any familiar names/strong clans etc and will never use any MM Monitor. -
Well in the beginning it were only vs computer in PC games and other gaming too PacMan anyone?

Destroyers in general and a surprise Blyskawica at the top PR 4026 100% WR on 194 battles. Of the 13 highest ships 12 are destroyers. Most battles is Jean Bart 735 (99,73%). I use coop for missions and it is a cheap alternative to get captain XP when doing other things, I often play at the same time as I do other things like talking to friends over the phone or eating. If it is high XP like now 200% for 1st win playing coop on premiums is effective as the difference between win and loss is high. Never use flags in coop. Those xP that you state is inflated by premium it is no way you can get those numbers in base XP on average over large number of battles. I have reached over 1000 base XP maybe 8-10 times though I have no exact record, just a few screenshots of some of them. It is more or less only possible with a large number of bots as otherwise the games are over to quick, hence that DDs is preferable open water slow firing cruisers worst (I do not count CVs as they are even worse but I do not play them much, only for the team in the naval battles more or less).

Can we have the Nelson back again please?
Gnirf replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
Yes they change the boxes content so that Småland is among the last 10 or so of the ships you can get in the boxes
