Why does my Warspite have crap range whereas my Texas gets 18,1km ?
Gnirf replied to RedStorm1's topic in Battleships
Yes and that increased the range from 23400 to 32200 yards (Burt, British battleships 1919-45). Both Fuso and Nagato was built with 30 deg later raised to as high as 43 deg.Kongos was also modified, varying from 20-25 deg between ships as built and also raised probably also to 43 deg?. That increased the range to 38800 yards (35500 m) for 14 inch guns and 41500 yards (38000 m) for 16 inch (Nagato), the Shell shape was designed for long range at the cost of accuracy (Evans/Pattie, Kaigun, p 260 (chapter outranging the enemy) US ships had range from 34500 -35700 yards in the 20´s (California, West Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, Tennesse) older ships remaining had only 20900-24000 yards (from Jordan, Warships after Washington), do not have info for modifications. -
Well I have not watched the Movie but would not a viable tactic from the 10 St Louis to all get to ramming speed!

Can only agree with the posts so far, I use HE at everyone but BBs and cruisers in close battle, especially South Cs, Kawachi, Myogi and Kongo. Agree with Negativv that shes good at angling targets, it is the only chance to defeat/damage stronger ships like Arkansas, Wyoming, New York Texas at distance. Even if you lose (sink) or does not sink them yourself your damage contribution can be important. A few salvos w fires as a result while they are engaging your teams other ships can be the winning factor.

Fuso/ vs Kongo etc well one can not just compare t5/T6 what they do compare to cruisers or the tier 5/6 BBs. Kongos 30 kts speed makes her far more mobile so as a pure ship destroyer Fuso w 12 guns are better but it is the game of getting there and also the possibility to decline battle (many seems to forget this) and you have a far better chance in domination games to rescue a enemy capping in Kongo or to support friendly capping. I respect your different opinions a lot some of you have played far more and better (but I have probably more knowledge of the real thing than most players, am not a computer game player otherwise), and I know this is game but some of you tends sometimes to forget the main advantage for a battlecruiser - speed and mobilty and what their purpose was. I think that the ship your fancy depends on your playing style, but also the ability to adjust to given circumstances. I think that Kongo is more versatile thanks to its speed. I am not very succesful with either Fuso/Kongo yet but I am getting better (the ability to fire must be impoved) so the average dmg is still too low but I am reasonable confident in placing my ships vs mission, enemies and map objectives. Therefor I like the variation between the ships. In that sense the IJN tier is more interesting than the US line. UK when it comes can be as intersting if they pick the ships wisely with its variation from fragile fast hard hitting battlecruisers to solid battleships. Its a little sad that Lexington as battlecruiser is not available as a premium ship 8-16 inch, 33 knot speed (35 originally designed w 7 smokestacks) but very flimsy armour, paper class. Poor AA Tier 7 WG Hello!

I have a few answers: Elevation of the guns means a lot. Warspite probaly does not have the turrets enough modified to use the guns actual possibilities. That IJN has longer range is quite right according to the historical development for their BBs.They modified the BBs from Kongo upwards for the outranging tactic that they would use against the US navy. You can read about this in f.e. Kaigun (search Amazon on Kaigun, superb book). When Kongo was built she had 25 deg elevation in 1913, larger than most opponents which was as low as 12 for the French (the Russians had large also), That the FCS was not up to the same standard is another matter but they have the guns and the mounting to shot longer than the enemy regardless of tier. -
I think Chikuma is a very forgiving ship as she has range, w upgrading she has longer range than Kawachi, faster than its counterparts and good in domination games where area control matters and speed is important, she is good at setting fires double Chesters chance. I have played her a lot (most games of any of my 17 ships) and she is a grinding ship when I want a fast active game and money to finance new ships. I think that she is useful, Like an earlier post said different ships has different playing styles so when you get use to the basics to aim and manouver study the opponents list of ships as their tactics if played good will be adjusted. You will learn f.e. where the DDs tend to come in the maps and how to deal with them. And above all study the mission until you have learned it out of hand, if its standard/zone/domination. F.e. St Louis shines a lot if you must face her but is not good at chasing others or capping. She is very strong once she is in action but it can take time to get there. The Chikuma and to a lesser way Chester are a better support ship to destroyers as they are a few knots faster. I have sunk lots of DDs in Chikuma supporting our teams destroyers. That is more easily done with her than other cruisers. When you start palying DDs be careful to read detection range and max torpedo range, do not fire at friendlies this will cost you and remember as a DD you are expendable and should go in front not hide behind your own ships, this will also make it easier to avoid friendly torpedoeing..

Well I have played Ishizuchi for a few weeks 47 games 36 K avg damage (28K server avg). Bought her after the buff. As I am an IJN friend it was natural. I Think that she is alright 5 turrets vs weaker opponents is good, I use HE almost exclusively but it depends on the matchmaking have possibly the most different results of any ship aside of destroyers, many good 60K+ mage and some poor, I Think that if you face several tough opponents BBs one must pair up with your teams best, but when facing tier 3/4 shes very useful. But do not tangle use her speed to advantage. as a supporter of DDs and cruisers I think she is useful. If she had a little better AA she would have been too far better than Myogi, one can not have it all. I have rescued some fights where its speed helped me counter enemy capping, when the other BBs are far too slow. For a BB of her tier I think shes also useful against DDs. I have far better results in win rate than with Myogi but I played Myogi as a newcomer and the difference between the stock Myogi and upgraded is huge, as ypu have at least some aircraft defence and long range with fully equipped Myogi. I like to play Ishizuci like a play Chikuma cruiserstyle moving around, she is very suited to domination games where you can use your speed best

Esa: I agree that some BB players does not have a clue of their role. The N-Square rule in general seems poorly understood by many (difference in 2 vs 1 compared to 1 vs 1 or 3 vs 2/2 vs 2 etc). I have many times escorted a battleship that does not understand that if I put myself between him and a destroyer to fend dont continue forward right through to the destroyer but turnaway and leave me space and time to destroy him and dodge torpedoes. Or that a cruiser + a BB against a BB is a sure victory and suddenly the BB veers off to do something useless. BBs that go lonely into archipelogos despite there is five DDs in the game, sunk of course despite warnings in chat. You cant help because you are elsewhere on map. There are plenty of tiring moments in my history. As I say I enjoy cruisers most as the results are far more consistent there and very seldom a game are catastrophic. But I enjoy BB also. I had a nasty game a few days ago when I played Isokaze level IV DD, sank a Wyoming and then a New York singlehanded although it cost my DD the last sinking. In the strait map. Thinking that victory was assured I felt that i did my part with 4 vs 2 BBs remaining, NOT. They lost. With 2 BBs up it should be almost impossible to lose with equal skill. Alright I admit that the first Wyoming was a tdiotic manouver in a narrow passage that gave me a free kill with ease, my own team were even less good. So I know what you mean by poor play.

Interesting but it is always the option of playing lower tiers a few games with my favourite low tier ships easily earns me 2-300000 credits, so you have always the option to repair your lost Yamato for "free". makes low tier gaming attractive with lots of participants and you as other posts have stated can play more aggressive. I also think that the reloads are expensive are a sort of balancing that makes the misuse of torpedoes not excessive. After all in the real thing there was only 1 load of torpedoes, almost only IJN had reloads with weigth/space penalties and had a fairly long reload time. Besides if you have premium account you earn 50% more, somewhere must the moneymaking come from, either you spend time in lower tier or you pay to do it less. If you are frequently in high tier games you should earn substantial credits almost every match on low tiers. I do the low tier financing play as I enjoy them.

Yes it is game economics, newbies must also have lot of ships to face while they are grinding their way up. Besides as the gameplay is different and often more active in lower tiers. I like cruisers a lot , Chikuma is my moneymaker 900+ games with her.

Well you need to play to get experience at higher tiers and one way to finance the continuation the game is letting us idiots buy premium top tier ships as this finance the game. But one thing to remember is that you will see several games for a player (if you are really that nerdish that you check up the players statistics for a single mistake you may be having too much free time or not considering the fact that the majority of players do this for fun). I am myself annoyed at newbies doing mistakes but I try to be helpful by chat adressing ships to turna around and protect cap f.e. if I am myself in a impossible situation. Besides even at lower tiers one does make a silly mistake a few times and you might a have caught a newbie in ship but good player overall make a silly mistake in his learning curve for the ship. Besides if you think that the player ruins your game he will be at the other team 50%. Have you considered how much your winrate will drop if all players were at your level and how few they will be (if you are a super player). How far less satisfying kills you will make? Personally I am player with reasonable statistics at lower tiers but I need the occasional high-tier battle with Atago to get variation, and as I said my small purchases of premium time and ships helps finance the game so I do not feel at all ashamed to play a few high tier games no matter what these anti-"low players" think. Besides one does not play several in a row, and are improving. I go often down to play really low tiers to enhance my ego after losing a high tier game, and some times I have contributed a lot to the team even in high tier play. Besides I have as other have posted seen a lot of very poor play from the regular players also. But as I love a resonable win rate (currently at 56%) and do not like the long distance fight that several high tier games have been I play more lower tiers. But it is slowly moving upwards the normal experience based way, so for me the expensive Atago is welcome, experiencing high tier play without having to play for many more months. Currently at level 7 in BBs so sometimes I play against higher tiered ships in the normal process now.

Yes I play the Chikuma (yes tier 2) which is a sure moneymaker to finance my poor /more unprofitable high end play even though I have tier 8 as max tier yet. So my cash pool is there for the high tier ships it is the experience that I lack so far.

300+ games but I'm starting to lose so much I'm not enjoying the game anymore!
Gnirf replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
IANH777: Well I am 1600+ player, Tier 2-4 IJN DD IJN 2-3+8 Cruiser and Tier 2-3 US Cruiser Tier 3-7 IJN BB. That means that I have fully equipped ships on all ships currently and reasonable captains (very good in some) ships. But my record varies a lot between the ships, I am growing towards acceptable in DDs from a poor start (had started w DDs only recently), but BBs are from average in lower tiers to poor in higher, and very good to poor in IJN cruisers to very good/average in US. That is the Personal rating for each ship but not necessary win rate. So I concur with Ferry25, in higher tier careless play and not playing your ship to their advantage cost many losses. Some ships in the IJN BBrange I had catastrophic result in the start but the difference with A/B hull etc and giving the captain time to get skills improves the performance a lot. It is necessary however not to look at only win rate overall but check your profile at wows-numbers to see your statistics per ship, both win rate, games played, Personal Rating, average damage (compared w average player/ship), this will show l lot so when you are new with a ship check there for your progress. Many of my BBs as f.e. Fuso I have reasonable win rate but poor PR. The DDs have improved a lot when I have started to get familiar with them but as I dont play them as much (love cruiser read Chikuma/Chesterplay suits my style) it will take a lot of time before the PR will look good. My advice to you is not based on being a good player (overall average but varies tremendeously between ships) but the fact that you can use many statistics to your advantage and progress. So you are maybe tiering up too fast 300 games and that many ships, however it is certainly not my suggestion that you should wait as long as I, after all it is a game and play for fun. But if you have that low win rate for long you obviously must making mistakes in one way or another, perhaps that you play so little on each ship that you neither know its pros and cons and above all dont forget about learning the different maps, the higher skills set and the various opponents ships pros and cons. I bought the Atago because I did not have the inspiration to grind up all the IJN levels, but I am seriously punished often, catastrophic win rate, mostly because I cant user her properly and general inexperience at this high level. I still do not regret the buy because she is a fun ship but I play one game at a time and then turn back to my lower tiers when my skills and play style gets more rewarded. But in an Atago game I was rewarded with catching an Idzumo from point blank in the North map unexpectedly totally unfocused on me and smacked 6 torps in her with instant sinking from almost full health, that is the experiences that makes one forget the poor games. -
Well I did not start with Destroyers until over 1500 games (dont wait thAt long however), with cruisers and battleships. I concur with the post that says start w cruisers and when you are familiar enough with the game that you realize why you are sunk, in terms of poor manouvering or something else when a destroyer is to blame (not one odd sinking but patterns) then you both know how avoid being sunk in cruiser and BB and vice versa good ways to torp and punish poor players. The amount of lone BBs that runs headlong into DDs without support is surprisingly large at low tiers. Play IJN DDs (have responded to that tip myself) as they torpedo range from the start is good but beware of your detection range. Expect a lot of games in the DD play that you might have zero PPints or very low and a few really succesful games. I played the first Three tiers of IJN DDs in a few Days to get them fully equipped. Many games for the DD should involve fighting with the other sides DD when it is not uncommon that you or him (or both)gets killed instantly whoever has luck or skill. The one thing to remenber is also as a beginner do not tangle with toO many ships if its dense the chances of friendly torping is not low. It happened to me a few. Do not forget that a DD should CAP in domination mode and seek the enemy if you are followed by a good cruiser player they help you with the initial DD encounter, I often try to folllow DDs if I am in a cruiser.

Weekend specials \ ship discounts \ port discounts
Gnirf replied to krazypenguin's topic in Newcomers' Section
With the A-hull both Myogi, Kongo, Fuso, Nagato is difficult as the gun range is poor and when you are in matches involving Carriers your lack off AA Power kills you a lot, in all ships the chances of winning and surviving goes up a lot when the ships gets more equipped, if you play a ship really much the combined subtile improvements will make a huge difference combined with your better handling. The difference in health between the Nagatos hulls is huge so it is easy to understand that its hard to win in the beginning, It takes several matches when the win rate is poor to get the improvements. If one wants to preserve win rate (for ego and good statistics) and have time be certain to use 2-3 exp Points on first wins when they occur so playing often while grinding your elite lower tier ships are a good tip towards profitable play. Some times the alternative is to play on premium account for a few Days to get the improvments faster if you are dedicated player and have the time, but that does not improve win rate by much (Little it will improve as you get the improvements faster. Myogi is a good ship if you use her correctly with gun range and speed, especially when matched aginst BBs not over her tier. The US battleships are slow and are very vulnerable to team if played wrongly on map as they travel so slow. Myogi can save games when enemy team is capping but US ships are hopeless.
