To be fair WG did tried but outrage was to much for them. Tolerate one OP ship or change balance of basically all ship bellow T8 and probably some T8. I think I know what WG would choose.
-
Name is not a placeholder. So why Belfast 43? Because WG really really fup with first Belfast There is a lot or request to reintroduce Belfast in any form It is cheapest way to cash on already existing ship in the game. With its fame and the fact that T8 Edinburgh is in fact Belfast 43 make this quite easy and to attractive for WG to pass Any other Town class cruiser would require a new model Radar and range are 100% balance issues, it doesn't matter if ships had radar or nor, what range its guns had etc. None of those modernization doesn't much for a game. Take for example post war modernization of HMS Sheffield, HMS Birmingham or HMS Newcastle. By that time all of them lost their X turrets and, while they did received Bofors instead of Pom Poms, overall number of AA guns decreased when compared with late ww2 standards. New radar equipment mean nothing if WG decided that ship doesn't need radar. So post war modernization could actually made them weaker than their ww2 variants were, at least for this game. Town class cruisers, I mean any of first two batches, will eventually arrive, there is no doubt in that, it is just matter of time. But not as a replacement for Belfast 43. In the end Belfast is museum ship, largest one in Europe outside Russia.

There are like 70+ Fletchers missing on that list and the Banham you crossed is a wrong Benham. Benham we have in game is a Benham class DD, there is another one, of the Fletcher class, that got that name after the first one was sunk in 1942.

Revenge is larger than Gangut class and that is why Arkhangelsk was the largest ship in the Soviet fleet during the war. Out of four Gangut class BBs, Marat was sunk in Leningrad but, as she is sunk in shallow water, three of her turrets continue to provide artillery support during the siege. Another BB in Leningrad, Oktyabrskaya Revolyutsiya was heavily damaged by German planes but her guns too stayed operational and active during the war. Unlike her sisters, Parizhskaya Kommuna was somewhat more active in the Black Sea, bombarding German positions around Sevastopol and providing artillery support for landing on the southern coast of Crimea but after fall of Sevastopol and due losses of other ships, Soviet did put her in the safer place and she see little combat in the rest of he war. Frunze was not operational at all during ww2, and even before it. But BBs are not all. Lot of Soviet destroyers were active and saw lot of actions during the war with fair amount of losses. I'm really surprised how people tend to ignore role of the smaller ships which actually saw much more service during the war than BBs but seems like BBs stole all the glory. But hey, was Yamato the best hotel during the war or not?
-
BBs will always have excuses to bowcamp on the back row and giving couple of low tiers BBs fixed submerged torps will not fix this. Also bowcamp is mostly problem on the higher tiers as lower don't have accuracy for this.
-
It is because of balance issues. Not only BBs are missing their submerged torps, lot of low tier cruisers are missing them too but seems somehow people only notice that on BBs. One of the reason is that modern BBs don't have them and for better progression they are simply removed from all BBs. And low tier BBs are balanced without taking their torpedo tubes into equation, including them would require for WG to nerf something, most likely their, already inconsistent, gun power and I doubt many would be glad about that. But BBs don't need them and for drive past you can use your guns quite effectively but that would require some thinking and not only reaction.

And there is nothing wrong with that. Just because it is not for everyone it doesn't mean that ships is bad. It is what it is, if you like what you see and you can afford it than go for it, if not, well there are other ships and more will come eventually. Some good reviews of the ship by Aerroon ... ... and iChase

Actually .... even with 38sec reload Hizen has better DPM than Izumo. Nerf was expected but WG is again showing their art of "fine tuning"

As I said the only place that can bounce your shells is armoured belt. Every T1 can do the same vs Monty so this is nothing unusual or special. Hit on every other place will result with pen or overpen ... probably mostly overpen depending on angle of the Smolensk you are shooting.

And with IFHE rework amour changes, only way you can get bounces on Smolensk with Monty is if you hit angled armour belt, but that apply even for T1 so nothing strange there. But as Smolensk had lost its 30mm central deck and 30mm upper belt, 406mm guns overmatch it everywhere but on citadel armour. So to get bounce on Smolensk with 406mm guns now you need to be pretty unlucky.

What are you want to say? Do you think that Friesland is OP? RoF is not everything. Friesland only have 4 guns. That is all. No torps, no heal, unlike majority of DDs no speed boost while being fairly slow. Just smoke, hydro and FOUR guns! Tell me what Friesland can do if BB push into his smoke? Destroy them with his four guns with high RoF? With 120mm is can only pen superstructure. So its high RoF mean fa in that situation. Burn him down? Yea good luck with that. Run away? Majority of T9/T10 are almost as fast as it and some even faster. Friesland is neither OP not nearly as cancers as Smolensk. Just look how good was Friesland in the last Ranked Sprint, 5 DDs had better win rate than it, 3 of them regular DD. Benham, even with lower win rate dealt more damage than it.

Not really, with armour everywhere reduced to 16mm, with exception of armoured belt which didn't changed, Smolensk completely lost possibility to bounce shells from 234mm to 406mm and now every hit will deal 10% to 33%, depending on where it hit. Considering that these are all SC and BB shells, including cruisers like HIV and Goliath, this mean that Smolensk will "eat" much more damage than before even if this don't produce citadel hit. Now every hit from BB, with exception of hit to angled armoured belt, will deal damage no matter under which angle shells hit. Also before complete central part of the ship was immune to almost all DD HE shells which is now not case anymore. So generally, what before was overpen will still be an overpen but what was before bounce or shatter will now is many cases be a hit with damage. So overall Smolensk now eats much more damage than before, which means it is a nerf.

While it is based on method that was used in WW2, WG bombers from their videos are using bouncing bombs, not the skip bombing technique. Actually skip bombing was conducted almost at point plank range. Here is video of US pilots practicing skip bombing. Note that wood platform is actual target and how close are planes from it This is a good tutorial video that explains both mast-height bombing and skip bombing and how they should work in theory ... ... or skip bombing explained in paper ... ... and image of how they worked in practice B-25 Mitchell skip-bombs a Japanese Kaibokan escort ship, April 6, 1945.

How did you get that? There is nothing in the text to suggest this is a case
-
None of those things are answered by WG and for now we can only guess. But for anything concrete we will need to wait for more info.
-
I call BS on that That is flawed logic, also you can get Alaska for FXP so they are not competition in that way, Alaska is T9 so they are not competition on the same tier, Alaska don't have smoke or torps so there is some uniq trade worth considering. Finialy what if someone already has Alaska? Should he just stops there and ignore all US premiums cruisers that could come after it?
-
It does, but Anchorage has much better turret angles, both front and aft
-
Atago DPM HE: 125 400 AP: 178 600 Anchorage DPM HE: 131 040 AP: 215 280 (but with US AP improved angles) It is not worse than many other T8 cruisers. Atago has large citadel too if not even bigger than Anchorage one. And Anchorage at least has that 27mm bow which means it can actually bounce something. So I don't see how its armour is so bad when compared to other T8 cruisers. As long as it not worse than Albemarle it is good for me.
-
Again that is not how premium ships should work. They should provide different experience or just default captain trainer. Yes they could/should be fun but so could/should be regular ships. For example is it Anchorage providing different experience than Balti? Yes, it does, it has more guns but with slower reload but alo smoke and torps in exchange or radar. Is it that fun? Fun is subjective and if something in not fun to you that doesn't mean it is not fun in general. Well I div with ST and to me Anchorage seemed decent ship. Nothing wrong with being decent. And it doesn't have to be good/fun for everybody. It is not the only premium out there you can always find other which you consider better. Atago is a great ship and it might be better than Anchorage but it is not much better. It is enough to just look at stats and see that. If you just want one good premium per tier than go with Atago it is a good choice. But it does not replace Anchorage, as they are different nations, have different consumables and different weapons characteristics. Maybe you don't like what is has to offer but at least you have a choice. 1. You can play other modes to, you know randoms, co-op, asymmetric battles, scenarios and even ranked which will start during this time. But if you only grind in co-op than that is your choice. 2. Than don't do it. That is your choice. You don't need to get all ships out there, find those you like and stick with them.
-
Really? So basically what you saying is premium ships should be better than regular ships? Sorry but that is not how premium ships (should) work. What would be point then in playing regular ships when you can just buy better ship. I doubt. Anchorage is not a bad ship. But if you believe it is than it is pointless to try to encourage you to anything as you already have formed opinion about it. If you don't want to buy than don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you. You don't think it is worth your money or time? Then just skip event and find something more interesting in WoWs for you. Easy.
-
This patch it will be given to STs and CCs on the live server for first round of testing. It won't be released any time time soon and youćll need to wait couple of months before that happen.
-
Which are still good shells and have standard improved US AP angles. Combine that with heaviest broadside among all T8 cruisers add 10.5km torps and smoke, good concealment and US CAs 27mm bow .... I think you have quite a good package there. Are you suggesting that there is a tanky T8 cruiser? If you want to buy Mainz then go buy Mainz. But keep in mind that you can buy Mainz even after event ends while for next chance to get Anchorage you will probably need to wait much longer.
-
Is it? Show me where you got that from? Really! Wow! I would never guessed, well thank you for explaining that to me.

On logic that Smolensk base range is already longer that Atlanta's and Smolensk, unlike Atlanta, has access to 6th slot upgrade. And if Atlanta get range buff it doesn't mean that Smolensk should get it too. When AFT stopped buffing 6inch guns, only Kutuzov range was buffed, not range of all 6inch cruisers.
