Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Toivia replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, that too. It's related to the concealment in general. (Same reason why Neptune has such issues with smoke firing while Mino or Edin don't.) Technically, the smoke firing penalty is not an issue as an italian cruiser closes in with the moving smoke (because it waits for the right moment to shoot a broadside), but it would wholly screw up the retreat. -

Asking for Defensive Fire is kinda pointless. It does nothing to protect against planes, really. Either you have enough AA without it or you don't even with it active. But if these cruisers are supposed to sneak in close to administer a nice salvo and get out*, they would definitely use hydro. *I'm not quite sure they're suited for that at all, though. For one their concealment is not great, for two the moving smoke doesn't last long enough for "attack&run" shenanigans and for three, they don't have any sort of close range devastating torps either. -

Kitakaze a další ho přestřílí, Yugumo zas přespotuje, jiní sověti (a brzy francouzi) mu zas ujedou.

You're confusing tokens. Each consecutive token is only attainable in a specific update. Next update, the tokens remain on your account (you can still spend them), but the second next update, non spent tokns get exchanged for credits. For example, tomorrow (0.8.6), old Allowance Provision (from previous soviet event) tokens will be exchanged to credits 22 500 for each. The update after that (0.8.7), Fuel tokens (used in this current update ending with the patch tomorrow) will be exchanged also at a rate of22 500 credits for each. Then finally, in update 0.8.8, the tokens (republic tokens) you will start receiving tomorrow will be exchanged at 12 000 credits per. -

Well, I was counting on those deck pens. Afaik that is how I was getting citadelled most times in my Emerald and have dealt in turn with others. That 40mm could still be within reach of the SAP, assuming the hypothesized pen is correct. Either way, between the SAP, moving smokes, high alpha/long reload, high speed and limited torps, I find there are too many unknowns to correctly estimate the performance of those cruisers. It's just too much of a mess right now. They might even out gimmick Royal navy lines at this point. (Italian BBs with moving smokes and "deep water radars", anyone? ) -

Hmm, was Machiavelli used as ship name? Unless he got some bad connotations in Italy, that would fit a requirement for a famous name and he did deal with military strategy as well to some degree, didn't he? On another note, Renaissance figures like Leonaro da Vinci have a precedent in the RM (dreadnought BB in WW1). Assuming WG doesn't want t reserve the name for a future BB, I suppose it could be used on a particularly large cruiser as well. And I am sure other names from the period could follow. You'd still have a wealth of names for italian BBs from the Roman era (and, looking at the list of names of italian dreadnoughts, a shitton of other names to draw inspiration from as well). -

Alright, if the pen isn't stellar on SAP, then it almost prevents it from ever citadelling anything short of Emerald. Then the high alpha kinda makes sense. Yeah, I am really curious how this wll end up working at high tiers. Particularly since the ships' concealment is nowhere near the current premiums and the gun ranges aren't great either (one wonders what the exellent muzzle velocity will be for if you oly shoot sub-15kms). Turning circles might be good for dodging, but the rudder shift isn't really. And somehow I am not very optimistic of the italian cruiser armor scheme. -

A lot of low tier cruisers will get absolutely obliterated by the SAP because citadels tend to be exposed at low tier and SAP will get great pen angles and for some reason even more DMG than AP. That is, unless the pen of SAP isn't much lower than AP. They did say it's better than HE of a similar caliber, but not quite what ballpark we're talking here. Is it 10% better than HE pen, double the HE pen or same as AP at a reasonable range? -
Hmm, I though I already whined about the Siegfried nerfs here before. Well, in case it got removed: the nerfs do not make sense. If somebody did better in Siegfried than in Alaska and Kronshtadt, give them Alaska and Kronshtadt again. Because at least Alaska is a very consistently great ship that blaps almost everything and survives a lot. I haven't seen Siegfried either blapping things or surviving well even when angled and baiting shels on the belt. And I'm basically watching streams daily.

ST, Italian cruisers tier VIII-X and Genova, tier V
Toivia replied to _Weikath_'s topic in Development Blog
They are 8inchers though. They're keeping the larger guns for the T9 premium, no doubt. (Never enough of T9 premiums, amirite? ) -
Afaik they stated that nothing is currently planned as far as other avenues to getting Benham. But you know, wait a couple months and it'll definitely at least get added to boxes that could reward other T9 premiums. I would stay that it's bound to show up again in the armory for a traditional ressource (coal, steel or outside of armory for FreeXP), but they're pumping out so many new T9-10 premiums that there's no real need to pad the numbers for them. So that will probably take quite a while at least.

French Destroyers Event: the Full Guide

While I mostly agree with Egoleter's points here, I'd like to add that for me personally, the concept of "directives" is one of the better mission structures in WoWs. There at least you have a choice of when in a given week to play and it does't make a difference. Heck with directives unlocking once per week, you are free to wait for the last directive on the last week and complete them all in one huge concentrated game session. What I really loathed was being hamstrung to play daily for 4 weeks in a row, 4 very specific weeks in a row for Benham. I wouldn't mind at all having to spend 24 days completing all dailies for a decent T9 ship if I could pick and choose those days. Just having say 6 weeks for that would aleviate the issue while keeping the requirements steep (you need to play several hours per day to complete those dailies). If you value the reward more still, no problem asking for more days spent playing, but again, do not ask for specific days playing - people have out of game needs as well. Let's assume you release the most OP Tier 10 ship ever, you call it free and you let everyone reach it just by playing the game. Asking players to complete 200 dailies to get it might be alright, IF AND ONLY IF you don't set a window of merely say 103 days to do that. If you give us a year, I wouldn't really see a problem with it. Hell maybe even half a year could be workable. And I have the same issues with Ranked seasons lately. Those used to last more than a month, maybe even more than 6 weeks at a time. Nowadays, you have one patch - which is typically 4 weeks, less than a month - to play. The only way to move to higher ranks for me is to spam battles daily which leads to very crappy results. Compare that to early Ranked seasons where I was fine playing a couple Ranked battles every other day and was A) enjoying it; B) moving surprisingly easily up the ranks. So to reiterate, for me, missions I have generally weeks for are fine; missions asking me to "work" every day for weeks on end are definitely not, no matter what the reward is. Though sure, downtime between events and grinds is bloody fine as well. I was having so much fun today playing just the ships I wanted, having no missions I "had" to complete. -

There was indeed quite an uproar against "France". Ironically I was defending that name and still find it better than the eventual "République". But oh well. Let's just say that I am far less knowledgeable about italian naming conventions yet I trust the guys not happy with the current T8-10 ITA cruisers. If anything, those inland city names do not even fit the names used on other italian cruisers at all. So I think there is hope indeed for some more inspired naming. -

Toivia replied to Historynerd's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely agree with the sentiment T8-10 cruiser names should be more in line with T1-7 and actual historic names. (Which in no way means I cannot appreciate Milano, Torino or Verona for the important cities they are. They just don't quite fit the nomenclature.) Personally, I believe there should be a treasure trove of possible names in Roman Empire history in addition to mentioned renaissance, ports, battles, etc. -

Well obviously I take that from information about the french DD testing. Why would you ever expect dirfferent? But anyway, when you have knowledge about how the section HP works, the sentence quoted by you makes sense. It's just not the best formulation available. HP of French DD hulls (mid sections) can be reduced to zero, like the HP of their bows and sterns. -
French Destroyers Event: the Full Guide
Toivia replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Well the gist of it is that if french DDs take all damage to their mid section, eventually they will only take a fraction of the damage until they'd take no damage at all*. In comparison, on other DDs, the midsection behaves like a citadel for other ships, meaning that the midsection always takes full damage till the destroyer gets killed. *Err, i am not sure if sections can still get depleted to a point of not being damageable at all. I am sure that torpedoes have been patched to do at least some damage (10%), even if say a dozen all hit the bow of one ship (previously, a DD could take 6 (or 100) torps directly in its bow and survive). I am not sure if a similar patch eventually happened for shells as well. -
Umm, @Crysantos, @MrConway, is it intended that the default premium camo for Benham has the T2-T8 bonuses instead of the expected T9 bonuses? Cannot think of another T9 ship that would have only +50% XP and -10% service cost. Instead they have +100% XP and -20% service cost.

Diference is those are not paper ships. So not too much choice of names (maybe some of their sisterships have simpler names?). On paperships, the choice was theirs. And for the record, I also find those famous city names questionnable on ships (although to a certain Alyssa, her surname's resurgence in various media lately might be flattering ). Didn't they mention in the Thursday stream that the italian cruisers will be unusually manoevrable? (Honestly with their size, they kinda have to be. On a number of maps, they couldn't navigate without grounding otherwise.) -

Toivia replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
It actually can't. Quite a pain if you are brawing with it. In fact most BBs can't really shoot directly forward at enemies well within 1km because of more or less tall bows in front of the turrets. Either way, those italian cruisers look good (visually). Stats are unknown still, SAP, their moving smoke etc. are still work in progress, so all I can comment on is that Milano looks as large as Moskva. I wouldn't be surprised with 60k+ hp. -

It's funny that I had absolutely no issue with the credit grind in savage battles. Unlike the daily missions you had to complete every day, this credit grind you had 4 weeks to pick and choose whenever you want to complete it. Be it a couple games every day or a long focused grind on a couple particular days and be done with it. What I really hated was the constant fear that for whatever reason*, I would miss a day of daily missions and would lose the chance of getting Benham. Like whether I found time daily for the grind wasn't in no way guarantee that I would eventually get Benham. That's what drove me crazy all along this grind. *ISP issues, power outages due to severely strong storms at the moment, WG server issues, computer issues, etc. -

As a person being able to play daily for many many hours, I find that events actually requiring all that time are just plain stupid. All events in the game should be doable by a reasonably active and capable person. That person being someone that perhaps cannot play every day for many hours, but will be able to catch up on say a weekend when he puts in more time to make up for a day when he could only spend half an hour in game. Or even occasions when he simply couldn't play on a particular day at all. Then you have people that only play like half the days of the week for an hour at most, those obviously cannot hope to really progress in the large events. And then people that play one day in a week, many hours or not. Those probably won't even know of many events and wouldn't really care. -

This is priceless. Well, at least this grind should be less of a pain than the Benham one (small victories, eh?). And since there doesn't seem to be anything interesting available for the tokens anyway, thankfully there's nothing forcing you to really grind much. Still, if you're interested, @Crysantos some down time between "events" would really be nice. Not piling up directives on top of bundles, tokens and container missions all at the same time for instance would also help.
