I think people should be careful looking at total matches versus detonations. It wont really tell if something have been changed recently.
I have no problem whit the mechanic in general, while it's not very fun feature, it happens so rare in most ship types that's it's acceptable.
What bothers me, is that it's my impression the chance of detonation have recently been increased dramatically for some destroyers types. ( high tier IJN )
And it quite frankly confuses me what Wargaming is trying to do here. There have been a number of changes to skills and modules, and it's my impression, that was partly to try and deal whit the unfunny part of destroyers just spamming torpedoes from long range, which then had the snowball effect of BB's camping, and CL/CA holding back due to lack of support.
I liked these changes, as it moved everyone forward and gave more fun action filled battles.
It also encouraged to try making different builds and using other tactics.
However, whit more and more ship getting good hydro and radar + if there have been an increased chance for detonations. Then it seem to me we are back at square one, where the safe thing to do for destroyers, is to just stay back at 10 km + range and spam torpedoes in a general direction of the enemy, hoping that eventually something gets hit.
