Let's wait and see it in action before passing judgement. Several people have made some great arguments about why I may not be as overpowered as it would seem at first. 1. It lasts a lot shorter than the Hydroacoustic Search 2. Hitting destroyers past 10+ KM can be difficult 3. It does not detect torpedoes 4. High-Tier IJN DDs and the Gearing can use their torpedoes from outside that range, albeit with less effectiveness. All High-Tier destroyers can also shoot from past 10+ KM. 5. Only Russian and American cruisers at T8/T9/T10 will have access to the ability. 6. It has a 5 or 6 minute cooldown. 7. You have to leave out a different ability for it (Probably Sonar/Defensive AA) If it's really as overpowered as some suggest, the supertesters and WG should notice it pretty quickly.

Are new players expected to pass on the German Line for now?
Kurbain replied to VeryRisky's topic in General Discussion
That's a slightly different matter. My Kiev/Tashkent are the only ships I actually bothered to use a premium ship for to re-train the captain since the Murmansk is a great credit earner, can use most RU DD skills and most importantly playing RU DDs without functioning captain skills is suicide at the higher tiers. Will definitely do it with the Udaloi and Khaba as well once I got them. RU DD without SA/AFT/Superintendent = Hell no. Playing them stock is bad enough already after the nerfs. Recommended for IJN and US DDs as well, although it is slightly less important for them because of their much better concealment and they can live without AFT. Usually if you get spotted in a US or IJN DD you are going to spot whoever spotted you soon after and you will know that you are discovered. Since the Kamikaze cannot properly be used for re-training if you got Torpedo Acceleration without CE and the US only got shitty premium ships, I just re-train their captains on the regular ship. -
Considering cruisers can do 6000 to 8000 damage a salvo at close range, sometimes even 20K+ with citadel hits, I wouldn't recommend it, even against American cruisers.I have seen a gif of a Zao doing 25K damage to an Iowa at close range. 5 Citadel hits in one salvo. On top of that BBs tend to overpenetrate cruisers at close range, especially the German ones. Shots bouncing of the citadel roof and all that. In most cases you should win the engagement, but if the cruiser player knows what he is doing, don't expect to have many HP left at the end, even without any torpedoes being involved. Generally the safer play is the better one in WOWS, unless you know that your opponents are crap. Even then RNG may be on their side, though.

Well, screw you Jammin, because I just made a Patreon account just so I could pledge to you using the "No Reward" option. You ain't gonna beat me at being nice that easily.
-
Holy crap, Jammin, I was just joking. I just checked my port and you actually bought me an Atago... Thanks a lot! If you need some help in the future, just ask. And make sure to exclude me from the Atago raffle since I got one already now.

It's absolutely fine to complete the re-training in random battles. It would takes way too long in co-op. The performance of your ship may be inferior than usual during re-training, but at least you can already start grinding ship experience. Also, some of my more interesting rounds have actually been in stock ships with the captain in re-training, because they forced me to play differently. (Stock Omaha with 50% AFT = No range at all. Time for lots of CQC) -
Torpedo Acceleration is T3 and Survivability Expert T4. You can have both. A valid question would be whether Superintendent is worth more than Torpedo Acceleration.

Nah, don't worry about it, no need for a beer. An Atago will do just fine as a reward. Good to hear that everything is in working order now.

MM has been driven crazy by the DD epidemic!
Kurbain replied to ApexTitan's topic in General Discussion
Jeez, those BB drivers in the video were the worst I have ever seen. Can't believe high-tier players can be that bad. Changing your speed and course every now and then isn't rocket science, is it? Had a game in my Amagi today. 6 DDs on the enemy team. Spent most of my time DD-hunting. Killed 3 personally, heavily damaged another one, only got hit by a single torp near the end of the match. Best part was that I was talking about DD hunting at the beginning of the match and one player didn't seem to be happy at all about the idea of an Amagi shooting at DDs and another one was asking if I had improved secondaries. Well, 3 minutes later I took one DD down from 100% health to 0 with a single AP salvo at 11 KM and he wasn't even showing broadside. -
Velocity Shells stats - Why not ingame?
Kurbain replied to Crusherheads's topic in General Discussion
As far as I know WOWS is meant to be a game for casual players. My guess is that giving players access to a lot of important and useful statistics would widen the gap between good and bad players since good players can utilize that info a lot better and WG doesn't want that to happen? The more RNG and less knowledge there is, the more chances a bad player has to win against a good one. If you wanna check out shell velocities/mass/etc., I recommend checking out this chart: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bH7wgaiGKvXwpLf18gaIEkFTsSGP-FKQ0gonOydjmxc/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=634177519 -
MM has been driven crazy by the DD epidemic!
Kurbain replied to ApexTitan's topic in General Discussion
In theory they can do a lot of damage with floodings due to their very fast torpedo reload time. Not sure if the Umikaze torpedoes have the same flooding chance as the Shimakaze variants, though. Anyway, both Umikazes ended up at the bottom of the team, so I guess the flooding trick doesn't work as well as one might think. Maybe because the torpedoes are slow as hell. -
Well, this is what the player statistics look like for me: For most players there are a lot of battles missing. I doubt stuy35 had 502 draws in 900 battles.
-
The displayed stats appear to be wrong. According to the statistics several players in the enemy team have winrates of 20 to 30%, but they don't. Neither in Random Battles overall nor with the specific ship. Their combined Wins + Losses don't even come close to their total amount of played games.

MM has been driven crazy by the DD epidemic!
Kurbain replied to ApexTitan's topic in General Discussion
The worst MM failure I have seen was 8 destroyers in the enemy team and 3 in ours. Unfortunately I have deleted the screenshot by now. At least I managed to break my record for "most torpedoes on screen at once" by a wide margin. I think I counted 43. But here is another tasty treat: On one hand we got 3 Shimakazes and the enemy only 2 T8 DDs. On the other hand we also have 2 Umikazes in the team. I guess MM thought because it gave us the fail division it should reward us with 2 extra Shimas so we don't feel bad. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Kurbain replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
I recently met Flamu in his Kutuzov while playing my Ibuki. Was eager to get into a gunfight with him, but sadly the round was lost very quickly, so I didn't get a proper chance to fight him. Apart from him I unfortunately didn't notice any other forumites. You guys need to show up more often! Well, except for that Kurbain guy. He shows up really often in my battles. I might even go so far as to say he shows up in 100% of them. He's probably stalking me. He usually plays pretty well, though, so I don't mind. -
-
Probably for testing purposes, just like they gave Kutuzov much more long-range AA DPS than usual when it first came out because it was made with the 0.5.3 changes in mind. In one of the Q&As it was asked how the Shimakazes would be dealt with and the WG employee said they would give cruisers new tools to deal with them. I guess the RU CAs will be equipped with the radar to see if it works and should it work well the other cruisers will get it as well.

Ich vermute mal, der meinte die T8 Mogami, da sich ja für Roon, Ibuki und Baltimore nix geändert haben.

12.7km gun range is an insult for a ship of the Omaha class #marblehead
Kurbain replied to AlwaysBadLuckWithTeams's topic in Cruisers
I also noticed it. I have only played the Marblehead for 2 matches so far, but in those I got 21 and 23 fires. It's crazy. I've never heard about a native fire modificator tied to caliber, though. According to the tooltip for its guns it got the same fire chance as the Omaha and Murmansk. Not gonna bother playing the Marblehead with just 12,7 KM range, though. Maybe once I got a T5 captain and can get concealment expert. -
Is the Mogami just a big citadel or what?
Kurbain replied to MS_Surface's topic in General Discussion
Well, the belt armor is pretty good for a cruiser. 140 mm belt. Only cruisers that got more are the Baltimore, Des Moines and Zao with 152 mm. Unfortunately the Japanese armor belts are much smaller than the American ones and the rest of the Mogami is indeed pretty badly armored.Besides, in most cases more armor just means a battleship will get more regular penetrations and less overpenetrations unless you get to 200+ mm. -
The golden ring means that the ship the captain is on is a premium ship. The golden name means you would have to retrain the captain if you were to put him on the currently selected ship. The captain himself is not special any way, whether he came with a premium ship or not.

An achievement that definitely got adjusted, though, is "Close Quarters Expert". Now you simply need to get the kill with your secondary artillery to receive the achievement. In the past you also had to have dealt at least 20% of the enemy HP in damage with your secondaries to get it.
