nope, its issue with all guns / torpedoes, but you can usually see it being triggered on destroyers, since BBs are large and tend to get shot all over the place. If you shoot retreating DD, 90% of time you will hit the stern and deal no damage, or if you take 5 torpedoes bow on in a DD, you will survive them etc.

Amagi has underwater citadels, and because of that its not easy to hit it when brawling from like 2 km away. Any other distance, Montana rapes Amagi with ease (and I'm saying that as a huge Amagi lover, probably one of the ships I like the most in this game)

People will always whine and complain about everything, I agree on that one. BUT. There is a good reason to complain about, and there is a bad reason. And this missions gave players a pretty damn good reason to complain. Once again they promote bad play, and thats exactly what you don't want to do as a developer.

(snipped for shorter post ofc) You see Tuccy, its not that much of a problem that one lonely battleship will charge into pack of your DDs and blast them away. No one is scared of that, no one is scared of Missouri all of a sudden going around and wrecking DDs left and right. But, the main problem is, BBs are given too much tools, and are OP (or getting pretty damn close to being OP) at this state of the game. As you said, they were given hydro. And thats a bull**** move. Why? Well, you are giving counter to a counter. Now you are giving them radars. So in the end of the day, it seems like BBs are countering DDs, not other way around. Couple that with a nice secondaries, and there you go, no sane DD will come even close to you. Another thing is, and this is probably the main problem. With so many tools at their disposal, why to play any other class? Ok, DDs still have their place in the game, they are nice to cap something, to pew pew that BBs hoping for a fire or 2 to boos their damage, and to sneak a torp or 2 into the enemies (speaking about high tiers). What are cruisers good for, except for being XP pinatas for BBS? Well, they are support class, you know, they have good AA (can you hear high tier USN BBS laughing), they can spot enemy torps with their hydro (can you hear german BBs laughing?), they can even radar DDs to make them easier to kill. Buahahaha, you need cruiser for that? What a joke, just use Missouri. You need a cruiser to do anything in a game? No need, BB can do it better. Why would you use Baltimore, when you can have Baltimore on steroids, with bigger guns, more hp, and better armor? And that is the main issue. BBs operate too well on their own, and are completely pushing cruisers out of the game. At least competent BB players, we aren't talking about guys that cannot find WoWs icon for 5 mins on their desktop, because they would fail even if you give them freaking Deathstar.

Well, since your most usefull torps are 8km ones, and only other somewhat useful option you have is 10km, yea, 9.5 km is only. Its only enough to detect everything that can torp you, hence only. /sarcasm

No damage and no fires? That thing burns down BBs like they are made of paper poured down in gasoline... Just stay at range and use HE to burn down BBs, use AP to punish everything broadside (yes, it pens)

If the situation is dire as you said, or if it isn't (in some cases), you have 2 possibilities. 1: to rush that DD down 2: to get into more comfortable range where you cannot get torped so easily but can still hit him By rushing him down, and then stopping your rush to run away, you have done dumbest thing possible. You have to turn, and while turning you are the easiest target to torp, and while turning (especially against gunboats) you are showing too much of your broadside for too long asking to get melted by gunboat AP. So choose one, but god please don't change your mind in between (Explanation about dumbest thing you can do)
