Well, my favourite cruiser moment when Yamato from ~18 km away take a shot at me, and I dodged all but 1 shell (turned bow on to the shells). That one shell hit my turret, permanently destroyed it (was like 3 mins into the game) and punched trough into my citadel. So there I was, sitting with only 1 front turret, with 1/4 of my HP gone, and trying not to throw my PC out trough the window... So yea, until WG decides to make this game less random, I will still try not to flip the coin. (same thing is with my experience in BBs when shooting cruisers. Sometimes your shells will bounce on practicly broadside target, other time you will score tripple citadel while hitting someones flag...) Oh, and my favourite moment while shooting the cruiser, was when I took a shot at Pensacola (everyones favourite ship to shoot at ). I was in Nagato, or Amagi, not sure. Saw my shells flying, and was like "Damn, I've overshot by 100 meters, completely missing her" (she was sailing full broadside to me ~17km away). Shells start landing, dropping in front of her bow harmlesly into water, I'm cursing, then last 3 shells fall litterary on top of her bow. I tought they will simply scratch some paint, and game won't even register the damage. Result? Triple citadel and devastating strike Fun and engaging moment for that Pensacola

Well, in last ranked season I started with Benson, then switched to my trusty Amagi, while everyone else was sailing their Bismarcks/Tirpitzes/NCals... Got to rank 1 with her, so I know where you are comming from when mentioning Nagato. And I'm the guy that really liked Nagato. But as I said, I'm a bit, well, cautious about her presence in a nowadays battles, especially ranked ones.

Because when playing a cruiser that has citadel bigger then the ship itself I tend not to get shoot at, rather then try to dodge shells. Especially nowadays with 5 BBs per side, wiggling around trying to dodge 40 shell coming your way, and every salvo having large dispersion so you have no idea where that shells will fall is a bit tiresome... I like maneuverable ships, I like to zig zag and outplay my opponent while slowly killing him, but I'd rather use that tactic with something small as Omaha, or some gunboat DD, then with something big as Baltimore that will eat random citadel no matter where that BB shell hits you. Its a bit different story when you are against Kaiser or whatever, and when you are against 5 Montanas / Yamatos / Kurfursts that shoot trucks instead of shells, and cover 300 meter radius with their shells that can take out 1/3 of your HP every time they hit you.And trust me, I've been citadeled from such a ridiculous angles, from such ridiculous distances, from such ridiculous dispersions (dodging whole salvo, but 1 shell falls completely off the mark, like 100 meters to the left then others, hitting me in the stern and citadeling me from 17-18km away) that I'd rather not gamble away my ship to the RNGesus.

dropped it on Bismarck to pick AR instead, since I don't have problem with turret traverse on Bis anyway. On Yamato tho... I would invest 4 more points to pick EM 2 more times if I could

Yea, never understood why people don't like Nagato... Even posted few things in that topic you mentioned. But although I don't have her in port ATM, I'm not sure how would she hold her ground now, since a lot of things changed since the last time there was t7 ranked... New skills came out, with IFHE which could hurt her a lot. And with the addition of Flint/Belfast/Shinyhorse/Gneisenau/Leningrad/Fiji she might have lost her place. I suspect that there will be a lot of sitting in smoke and HE spamming with IFHE (from the smoke), and being in a big, slow, bulky Nagato is just asking to get burned to crisp, while not being able to shoot anything back.

So radar is nasty and strong in random battles where 90% of players don't give a f**k about caps and DDs, but isn't that strong in a 7v7 enviroment with 1-2 caps and both team highly focused on getting that cap... Thats some next level logic right there... Yes, Belfast isn't a game winner. There is no such thing, no ship will win a game single handedly. But its currently the strongest (by far) t7 cruiser when it comes to fighting for caps, and guess what matters in ranked games. Strange isn't it...As I said, name me one tech tree cruiser that has even close to the tools Belfast has, that works in the ranked games enviroment as good as Belfast does. Don't tell me "oooh, but she is a cruiser" because guess what, all the other cruisers are actually exactly that, cruisers. Who would have guessed, right... Considering Sims, as mtm allready explained (and I even said it so in my original post), Sims gets HIGHER BASE XP then other DDs. Not multiplied XP, BASE XP. Because thats how the ship is made in the game. And when you loose the game, if you are on top of your team by BASE XP, you don't loose a star, so yea, that has A LOT to do with ranked games. Beating any half decent Sims by base XP in past t7 ranked season was extremely hard to pull of, and they were the guys that didn't loose the star most of the time, making their grind to rank 1 just that much easier. Flint is so rare in random games, because she is cruiser that was given out to the guys that achieved rank1 in ranked games 2 (or 3) times in a row. Guess which guys will play ranked games this season? Yea, probably that guys that achieved rank 1 few times allready. Yes, both t7 IJN DDs are good. But you still haven't answered my question... Maybe Shiratsuyu will be valuable asset because of torps, maybe Mahan will be good as well, but can they be compared to their premium fellows? Blyska / Leningrad will murder most of the t7 DDs in a gun fight with ease, while retaining usable 8km torps and ability to stealthfire. So whats the proper counterpart in tech tree? Kiev with 4km torps? Mahan with bad shell arcs that will loose proper gunfight against Blyska 9/10 times while still having worse torps? And yes, that high skilled captains are just icing on the cake.

untill you upgrade him, play him as you played Benson. Stock its basicly the same ship, so no real problems there. (and yup, did the same recently, got stock Fletcher with 1 pt captain, still training him, but got upgrades thankfully )

Tirpitz has 6km torps that are *not very useful* in ranked games, so you have his tech tree brother Bismarck with his 10.6km range secondaries and hydro that is a lot better for ranked games Atago is arguably one of the strongest t8 cruisers, but nowadays, everyone that wanted could get his hands on ARP Takao, and probably half of server has her. There is no CA with smoke+18km range combined, but you have Edinburgh with smoke or radar, and you have Chapayev that fills the role of Kutuzov just fine because she can stealthfire easily + has a radar that is even more useful in ranked then Kutuzov smoke. Best DDs for t8 are once again arguably non premium ones, and there is no premium CV on t8. So, now that we have gone trough all the classes and found out that you can have equal / better tech tree counterparts then premiums on t8, lets do that with t7. Tell me what CV can easily outmatch Saipan? How many ships have radar on t7 (yup, they are all premiums) What cruiser can come even close to utility of Belfast? (No, Fiji can not, because she is missing HE and Radar) What cruiser can beat Atlanta as an AA platform? What is the ship that has best base XP gain on t7 (its Sims in case you didn't know) What ship can even compare to Flint? What would you put as a valid tech tree counterpart to Blyska / Leningrad?

Guys, a bit of brainstorming and rethinking of things now that 0.6 is out. With new captain skills its quite easy to get Air Supremacy for your captain. And with new module, you can switch to Air group modification #2 to get 20% buff to your fighter HP, and 50% buff to your ammo. Now, whats the point of it? Well, does this make balanced (1/1/1) Independence/Ranger, heck maybe even Lexington a lot more viable? You will have STRONG fighters (sadly only 1 group, but with large amounts of hp/ammo, so IJN CV has to use both of his fighters to stop yours from completely devastating his own), while still retaining the ability to strike hard where you need the most with USN TB, and BUFFED bombers because of AS. Yes, its only 1 more DB, but that means quite a lot, considering how strong USN DB actually are. Tried out 1/1/1 Ranger now, and even without AGM#2 got some nice results, although it was random game against not so good players, but that actually made me rethink the position of balanced setup in the new patch.

Next time you see cruisers running away from caps at the start of the game, and hugging the line, while BBs are valiantly charging in to push the caps, feel free to take a screenshot, so we can agree those are sh*t players.Problem is, you will see 1 of cruisers like that in place of 15 border hugging BBs, and thats why people are annoyed by their behaviour. Nothing changed in past year, BBs are still camping. The only difference is, that before they were camping because CVs, then CVs got nerfed. Then because torpedoes, then torps got nerfed.Then because economy in high tiers, then WG changed economy to promote agressive playstyle. Then because sun was shining into their eyes too bright, so WG removed the sun. But they are still camping. And they still have same excuses like they had year ago. -
So, which buff would you like on AGS? Bigger alpha damage so you can oneshot t8 cruisers? Better penetration so you can citadel BBs from 16 km away? (Maybe you can, didn't try out, but don't belive so). More HP, so she has BB HP pool? Better accuracy so you get granted citadels at everything in your range? The only possible buff I would personaly like is a bit better AA (I might be mistaken, but from my personal experience, she struggles against planes quite a lot)

Well, why would anyone have their ships and captains ready when ranked season starts... Its better to change it in the last moment, so everyone has to pay for captain respecs / retraining etc, or buy themselves a new shiny premium... But imagine what will it look like... Bunch of DDs with smokes, Belfast/Fiji/Flint with smokes, by the time the season start, they will release t7 BB with smoke... And only one that can counter whole map being smoked up are premiums... yay... -

Honestly, I'm pretty scared of taking out Shchors into ranked, altho she works wonders in randoms... But you will get focused 10x more in ranked then in randoms, and if Shchors doesn't like something, thats getting focused by BBs -
You are once again going back to "I had fun in some situations = ship is good". Thats not how you balance ships, and we are talking about overall balance here (or am I missing something) Some people think that its funny to kill their teammates with torps, and obviously Baltimore is bad ship since it doesn't have torps

I knew it... JUST F***ING KNEW IT!!! Nice move from WG to put it back to t7. We don't want premiums to gather dust in ports, right, lets make it more interesting and put them in the ranked games! And especially when they said ranked / team battles will be t8 from now on, so I have 5-6 t8 ships armed and ready, together with trained captains that I grinded just for that cause... Coul've expected another middle finger from WG. -
Don't worry, I'm not dissing the opinions or bashing anyone (not my intention at least), but I simply don't think Baltimore is in good shape ATM, and is a huge victim of powercreep. Before, they were sold as AA platform (whole USN line), thus the lacking of torps / gunpower. Nowadays, when everyone else still has torps, has better guns, has as good (even better at some tiers) AA, and when overall AA is buffed by huge margins, they are simply left out as a relic of history. Stats show that, overall usage show that (when did you last see USN cruiser in any kind of serious / competitive enviroment? DM as an exception), everything shows that. And yes, you can have fun in them, you can have good games in them, you can kill half of team in them, but sadly, you can accomplish all of that in other cruisers, but with half of work you have to put into USN cruiser to make her work. edit: was refering to VC ofc, but got ninjaed by Sana

I like people not getting LS in the new patch. Met few of that gems in last 2 days. Makes my life as a cruiser SO MUCH EASIER. Don't take LS on any DD, trust me. You will never get hit, USN/IJN have stealth and you don't see them whole game long, and RU have speed and are impossible to hit. Just ask that Kagero/Mahan/Udaloi I've met yesterday, they will confirm that its a waste of skill points

You want combination of stealth and firepower? Then why not bring Ibuki that has that concealment coupled with insane HE shells for long range engagements, and 10km nuclear torps for close range engagements. (Ibukis AP isn't really something to forget about either). She has 2nd best rate of fire, but lower number of guns, or lower alpha damage / fire % chance compared to other cruisers. So where is that firepower she has? The only nieche in her firepower that makes her stand out a bit is her AP, which will work better against slightly angled targets, but once again, that is if you are close. In long range engagements, she has nothing to write home about because of retarded shell arcs. The armor is more or less same on most of t9 cruisers, and arguably Roon might even have better armor. And if by "fairly small target" you mean few meters shorter then Donskoi and Roon, and quite longer then Ibuki / Neptune, then yea, she is fairly small. So small that she is 8th biggest cruiser in the game (first 4 places going to t10...) So only thing that fits her quite a lot is to dance around with her rudder shift time, but I don't need a balerina, I need a gunboat that will dish out damage, not dance around battlefield.
