What are you taking about? I didn't complain at all, I just stated a fact. The game is bad at giving you feedback.

In particular, I have been making efforts to teach people and sometimes whole clans about things. But I disagree with that on a fundamental level. Just because EVE's developers failed, doesn't mean that it's OK for WG to fail similarly as well. It is their responsibility to provide resources. If for nothing else because it makes it makes the game easier to pick up so more people will start playing which ultimately results in more money for WG. I don't get paid anything for doing their job so while I want the game to do well, I don't want to put that much actual work into it without involvement from WG.

Go away with this realism stuff. Game balance should come before realism each and every time. It's a game loosely based on reality, not a simulator.

That's a bit disingenuous. A lot of games have very good tutorials explaining in-game systems. I don't want a degree in World of Warships but I would expect a player that has spent more than 6 months with the game to be able to explain how HE works, how AP works, how angling works etc. Basic stuff. As it stands nobody can do that with in-game resources.

I think social pressure can also play a role... I dunno about you but I dislike being reported. Fortunately most of my reports are from angry BBs that don't like being sunk but still...

You are missing the point. If your goal is to get that person to not go to D, you don't want to humiliate them. Nobody will listen to you if you're behaving like a [edited]. It's just the way of things. So instead of calling them a cretin, why not spend the exact same time at least being constructive and saying "oh you have a deathwish and you you want to die from a million torps, because that's what will happen over there... yea dont count on me and I hope nobody else follows you either." Even if your only goal is winning, you should still consider being polite to people if just to get them to do the right thing. Not saying I am a saint, I have insulted people plenty of times but I know that I am punching myself in the face basically. I also only do it after pleading with people to not do something stupid and they still do it.

I agree. I even told the dude something along the lines of "why won't you just accept that it was your fault and just say sorry and move on? why are you trying to blame me for it?" But on the other hand, I just want to say that we as a community are guilty here. When is the last time you (any of you) reported a team killer when they were being horrible in chat? Like I would have expected my particular "problem" person to receive at least 10 reports. Well, all that happened was one of the teammates saying we're typing too much in chat. I mean, yeah I see his point but virtually nobody reported that unrepentant team killer so again, it comes down to feedback. Without at least social pressure in the form of reports, he will never actually know he did anything wrong. So he will do it again. If we want to change stuff like this, or help players that are have less than stellar performances, we should all spend more time giving feedback. Not aggressive mind you, but typing "Going to D on Northern Lights with big ships is a really bad idea - please don't do that" for example takes seconds. And in time, people will learn. I wish people would have been honest with me and told me what I was doing wrong sooner. That way I would have improved even more by now.

Yeah, I mean it would be OK imo but people should know by now that you are responsible for your own torpedoes. And at any rate to this day, I don't know what the dude was doing. Like he either didn't know his torpedo range or something. But I actually tried to explain to him calmly that I couldn't read chat at that point as I was heavily engaged and at any rate he fired his torpedoes right into my smoke, like right on my position. Not even a matter of me sailing into his torpedoes, they were right on me! It didn't work because he was 100% sure he was right and he warned me so it's my fault. He's the same kind of player who will never admit that there might be something wrong with him. Explaining things to a person like that is a waste of time.

Aw man, I feel you. The most enraging thing in my 7k battles happened like 2 weeks ago. Friendly Zao (t10!!!) torpedoed me in my smoke (I was in a DD). He was around 12-14km from the nearest BB. I was at around 9 km from the nearest BB. His explanation was that he typed in chat that I should watch out. Now I genuinely didn't notice as I was in a pretty extreme firefight and I wsn't expecting torpedoes from behind and my engine was broken anyway so I couldn't accelerate fast enough. But he started raging at me and then telling me that he hopes I learned a lesson and that I will read chat more carefully next time. I was livid. Angrier than I've ever been in an online game. Sorry for the off-topic - I still have flashbacks of that event.

I think there is a fundamental issue that is being overlooked here. The game's feedback is rubbish. Like if I am sailing in my yamato, doing 30k avg, how do I know that's bad? How do I know that there are people doing 120k+? Does the game ever tell me in any way? No, it does not. And because of the wildly varying XP coefficients, it's difficult to say if you did better or worse. Not to mention that every dog has its day so everyone will have amazing games. 30k can mean a devastating strike on a Des Moines for example. That will make you think you're doing great. Basically it's what Takru said in a previous post, if you're bad, how do you know you're bad? The game certainly doesn't inform you of that. And unless you think there's a problem, you won't go searching for a solution. I was like that for a lot of games. I didn't think I was good, I just didn't think I was bad. Well, if anyone is curious, check out my stats in the Ibuki as I've left it the way it was when I got past it as a reminder of just how awful I was.

I guess that's fair enough. In fact, I think you guys should use this thread as training material to show new moderators what an off-topic thread looks like. Now it's time to meta this, everyone else participating in this thread, how do we get back on topic guys?

    khabarovsk- Detonation

Fair enough. I dunno, if you guys really think it's an issue and you can pull some actual statistics instead of just perception, then take it to WG and tell them you think it's a problem. Like 3-4 of you should start recording the frequency at which it happens. You can set up a google sheet and simply color the boxes each time you play a game - red for detonation and green for no detonation. You get 500 or so matches between you dudes and then you will have evidence (or at least see if you're right or if it's just perception).

    First Month player: Ranked Battles

Totally off topic, I know, but that interview is so much sadder now that we know he is HIV positive, poor guy. On topic, I love how right after I say that overall, over a decent number of games you will have as many bad teams on your side as on the opposite side, someone makes the point that it's luck of the draw. It's not luck over the whole ranked season. It has nothing to do with luck - yes you will always lose some games but if you are good, you will always win more than you lose and you will lose fewer stars in loses as well.

I would however like to report Gr0pah as a dirty TTT cheater. I can't quite put my finger on it but his Gearing looks suspicious...

Have you guys tried using the anti-detonation module in slot 1 or is the tradeoff on turret health not worth it?

    First Month player: Ranked Battles

I disagree profusely with the notion that new players shouldn't play ranked. They should - it gives them valuable experience and it accelerates the learning process a lot. Also, I feel people have a fundamentally flawed way of looking at ranked. Not everyone is meant to get to rank 1 - it just won't happen. The correct way to play ranked is to get as far as you can, then when you hit the "wall", you wait a week or so and try again (better players will have moved on to higher ranks). And then play until you hit your next "wall" and so on. If by doing this, you get to rank 1, good. If not, it's still a complete victory as long as you learned something. Now I am not saying stats don't matter and the OP is most likely overestimating his ability but I think he/she should continue with ranked 100% and focus more on what he could do to improve the likelihood of a win Also, I keep saying this again and again, over a decent number of games, you will face as many bad teams as you will be part of. Everyone should stop whining about their "bad teams" because it evens out. Your overall win rate will not be affected by bad teams - although you might have like 5-10 bad teams in a row.

Lies and slander! Examples of our play style can be found on my fellow TTT (Aka Edited) clan member, Hadders' youtube channel which I would like to submit as evidence, your honour. Basically, what I am saying, and I speak for all my clan is...

    Normal penetration damage on DDs

I think I will try the same thing but against non-khaba DDs. I think the Khaba's 50mm plates might be interfering. We need to shoot at something like a Grozovoi or a Gearing.

    RADAR

Cruisers with radar are fin as is. Their inherent fragility makes using radar a potentially perilous endeavor. BBs with radar are not fine at all and they shouldn't have it. A BB with 70hp bow on and radar is a considerable obstacle that has a significant contribution to making the gameplay static because of how difficult it is to dislodge.

    Training mode

I believe that's just a screenshot of a client that had training mode enabled. Training mode is actually how all the competitive battles happen but you can actually install it yourself and use a yamato vs 10 new mexicos (either bots or your mates). There's a direct way to turn on the training room but I don't know where the instructions are and then you can just install Aslain's mod pack and select it from there. It's also in the official modpack as well.

    Normal penetration damage on DDs

Let's cross that bridge when we get to it, friend. One thing at a time. In my view, if the wonky dmg mechanic would be fixed first, I'd like some time to see how that impacts things and only then I would want to re-open the discussion on normal penetrations again. Let's give WG enough time to investigate first and we can discuss after. I think it's clear that, at the end of the day, both us and guys like Sub_Octavian actually want the same thing - to see World of Warships thrive.
  25. _Teob_

    Normal penetration damage on DDs

Yeah. And like I said, you need a lot more granularity in this case. High tier DDs are considerably more affected by this. An average wouldn't tell the whole story at all. I do trust WG to look into it properly though. Edit: Thank you - I am not even being facetious when I say I am genuinely grateful. Even if you disagree with us on how much dmg BBs should do with AP to DDs, there is something wrong with the way said AP shells do dmg. I am just linking this again because it showcases it perfectly but it's quite common. I did not die as a result of those shells. I didn't get detonated or anything.
