Oooh, I love flags! Mine:
-
You;d have to be careful with that though. If it's too close to a ship's natural reload then it's a massive buff. For example a 5s bloom would be significantly better for a Khaba than for a Gearing for example. I am not sure this would work because of that interaction.

Nerf this, nerf that, ruin this, ruin that. WG, wanna fix your game? Here is how to!
_Teob_ replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
while the tone is a bit much, I agree with some of your sentiments. Yes, the maps are not all great but I think your second point is spot on. There aren't enough resources to help people learn. For example angling isn't explained anywhere so of course people will sail broadside. Not even basic stuff like the fact that ships have citadels and you can only do that max damage that you see in port if you hit said citadel etc. Nothing is explained. -
Prepare yourself for the WG free accounts invasion...

... I am more worried about the person playing the Gamescom account. High tiers are... rough, if you don't know what you're doing. -

I only ran into 1-2 Gamescom accounts last year so I doubt it will be that bad. However, I think that those accounts should be limited to Coop only. It's a better experience for them. -
I am constantly amazed at what we're seeing once we've actually started to pay attention. Also, I am very much surprised that these AP issues weren't noticed before. I know detailed ribbons and stealth fire removal added to it , but still. Everyone just got so used to the whole "BB looking at me, I may or may not be dead depending on his RNG" that we barely looked into more detail. I have almost 3k battles in cruisers and I am sure this must have happened to me but I didn't notice.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
_Teob_ replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Oh yeah, it was that match where the enemy DDs all died super quick at the start. I remember it now. I was scratching my head for a second there. I think I was complaining about the fact that a New Orleans was alive toward the end of the match cause BBs were mostly farming dmg on enemy BBs. -
But, with all due respect, you're looking at it the wrong way. IFHE makes some ships incredibly strong. Much more so than intended. It's the other cruisers that should get buffed not IFHE left alone. The way forward is to nerf IFHE and then buff underperforming cruisers, right?
-
I imagine because it has better concealment to begin with?
-
I don't think that will change though. Just that BBs won't be able to hide in smoke anymore. Yes they will have fewer fires but people will still take IFHE. BBs will still get hammered by that combo, more so, if they don't stop firing.
-
Wait, so your argument basically boils down to "teamwork is bad". I think we have a fundamental disagreement here. I don't mind spotting stuff so my BBs can kill it. What I meant is, if you see a smoke that is clearly being used by a RNCL you can just sneak up to it and simply spot the Mino when it's firing. It's super risky but then again nobody said it should be easy. If this change goes live, and I hope it does, it opens up an avenue of interaction between smoke and everyone else. It makes things a bit more complex and I am happy with that. It might be a slight nerf to a certain type of cruiser play style but to be fair, something like a DM or a Hindi getting smoked constantly is super OP. And it's not like they had guaranteed smoke - they are lucky to get whatever DDs can give them. The only things that shouldn't get nerfed is the owners of the smoke itself which is why I hope RNCLs won't get hammered too much. I don't think there's any way in which this proposed change can be perceived as a buff to BBs.

I love how people are saying that the Belfast will be useless - it will not. It needs a nerf desperately. It is grossly overpowered. In fact IFHE is too strong right now in general. A well played MK is one of the most effective cruisers in the game. It's totally fine with standing toe to toe with t10s. That's not OK. About the smoke changes, yes they are a slight nerf but they also open up some counterplay options. Honestly, if a DD is willing to risk getting at 5km from a RN CA then he should be rewarded. I realize this is debatable though so I understand that others may not agree. And BBs are far too stealthy as is and shouldn't have been able to fire from smoke to begin with. As much as I was a critic of the last iteration, I am a fan of these changes.
-
Proposed change is good. I don't think cruisers will be affected too much. It does however need to be explained properly. So it needs to be added to the concealment tab in port. In fact most mechanics should be explained better but that's a different story.

There's no doubt in my mind that USN is the way to go. Just stop at the Fletcher as that's the high water mark for the line. It's one of the only (if not the only) lines that actually has decent progression and you get something additional for each tier so you actually want to go from one to the other. Lower detection, better torpedoes, more health etc.
-
This is what I use. I think AR is very good on the Shima as is RL.
-
I think you're misunderstanding the topic. BB AP has several issues atm. - Normal pens sometimes do wonky dmg. Several examples in this thread. Some people have speculated that it does damage to several sections. This shouldn't happen. - Normal pens happen due to shells hitting the water and then arming - Normal pens happen when a DD is slightly angled despite the fact that they should theoretically overmatch. All that creates a situation where AP actually becomes more reliable than HE. Most DD players are not more afraid of BBs firing at them than their "natural" enemy, cruisers.
-
I am not sure what this means. The point is that normal penetrations do more dmg than HE at the moment and they are very reliable which means that HE is useless on BBs.
-
I can tell that you haven't read through the thread. While I understand that reading through 20 pages of replies is daunting, all your objections have already been answered. With all due respect, there's literally no point in me going around in circles explaining the same thing. But out of courtesy, I will give you the tl;dr - No, DDs will never be as resilient under fire as BBs. The health and armor difference is insurmountable. I imagine that you were just being facetious - This isn't about BBs not doing damage, just about BBs having to use the appropriate ammo type against light armored targets (HE) rather than spamming AP at everything @mtm78 While I understand and share your frustration at having to explain everything over and over again, that sort of tone is really not helping and will only cause arguments. Could you please edit your post to something ever so slightly more constructive, please? I imagine that you're not trying to outright offend but your tone might be interpreted as such. I am really just trying to keep this thread civil so it doesn't devolve into utter madness again.

Deepwater torps, so battleships can have more fun because if you want to contest a cap, you can't hurt them
_Teob_ replied to mtm78's topic in General Discussion
Like I said before, I don't see any issues with these torpedoes. They will be better at killing big ships (including cruisers). On DDs I mainly use guns anyway. I don't like firing blind in smoke clouds because that puts my torpedoes on cooldown without being sure I will hit.. So for my playstyle at least, DW torpedoes will be great.- 330 replies

I like the idea of DW torpedoes and I don't see any issues with them not being able to hit DDs. I don't see any reason why I would want to have more ships using torpedoes on DDs.- 330 replies

I will say this though, I did recently get annoyed with a friendly CV when I died while he was hovering planes right next to me. I was in a Grozo and I had already killed 17 planes so it's not like I wasn't trying (I think that killing all those planes made the enemy CV angry with me or something) and I just needed 10 more seconds until my def AA was back up. I saw the strike coming (courtesy of friendly ships) and I was on like 4k health... but I also saw the friendly fighters so I thought I'd be fine. But I swear it looked like the friendly CV waited until I was bombed into oblivion before he strafed them all basically. His planes had been hovering in the same spot for more than 2 mins at that point. And I did ask politely in chat for help and told him the enemy CV is coming for me. Playing CV is tough and, especially at high tiers, it's very frustrating for everyone not in a CV to be at the "mercy" of a random plane god that might or might not be good enough to counter the enemy plane god. It makes people feel helpless and that results in a lot of anger. And skill differences are higher among CVs than any other class as far as I can tell (on top of the high skill floor and ceiling inherent to the class) To be fair, if you get two good CV players in Hakuryus then it's a pure DPS race between them. It's almost funny when a couple of people recognize the enemy CV player and they start "yelling" in chat telling everyone to stay together, and that lone warriors will get killed, provide DDs with AA etc. and invariably you get people sailing off ignoring all the warnings because they simply haven't met a really good CV before. It's almost like a horror movie "Tipitz, come back! Don't go there, it's certain death!"

Hm, weird. I always thought that this game was made for potato PCs.
-
I dunno, I am playing with all graphical settings maxed out so I suspect that smoke rendering is as good as it gets for me. I don't think I've seen smoke not rendering on open water at any range. I may be wrong though.
-
I guess the situation described by the OP could also happen if there's a smoke between him and the ship firing at him that wasn't noticed because smokes don't render in binocular vision.
-
I play t10 DDs almost exclusively so yeah, I enjoy them a lot. It's much more difficult than it was in the past though.
