Yeah, it's the missions. Same reason, I suspect, that there are an awful lot of cruisers in the queues at present. When you have to start 300 fires.... I'm constantly torn between using AP to win the game and using HE to set fires in my Aoba :-( (usually I do the former, when appropriate - I can't bring myself to throw games for the sake of missions. But the number of BB drivers using HE against side-on enemies at present suggests that not everybody thinks this way)

Stop. Feeding. The. Trolls. -
Gents: this necro of the original thread isn't making *anybody* look good. It's just people being childlike on the internet. Could I suggest either dropping the dispute, or taking it to a private place? I for one am not impressed with my clan right now, but further conversation here would seem to serve no purpose.

I suspect that people are right that weather couldn't be used to affect weapon performance, or in a storm the only people shooting would be the battleships. But I do wonder whether there should be a differential speed modifier - in heavy weather lighter ships get slowed. It would force people to mix up their tactics a bit if DDs were even harder to spot but were struggling along at 14 knots

I haven't played above T7, but even from what I see there (and I assume it's worse with T8+), I can't see this behaviour changing much with the current class mechanics. The only people who can do anything about torp walls are the cruisers (or perhaps some of the DD gunboats?), and if they move forward enough to spot the enemy DDs they will be immediately obliterated by the enemy battleships. I can't help feeling that CA survivability is the key to this. (or limited torp reloads.... )

People Complaining About Losing - Solution!
_Flyto_ replied to TheFierceRabbit's topic in General Discussion
Noooooooo. The last thing that this game needs is more encouragement for people to go for personal glory and ignore the objectives! -
Furutaka is no Aoba - mostly because the rate of fire is so poor - but it can be a lot of fun in T5 where nobody else has such big guns as you!
-
My advice would be "keep going until you stop enjoying it"! Given that you have XP and credits to spare, why not try T7 and see whether it's fun? Cruisers specifically do have a hard time on high tiers, because they tend to be glass cannons that can be killed in a single salvo if they make a wrong move. But some people enjoy not making that wrong move! Most people seem to reckon that tiers 5-6 are the best income generators for an average player. I find that at T7 I occasionally make a loss from a really bad battle, but money still comes in on average. Haven't gotten higher than that yet You'll find that US cruisers change a lot between tiers 6 and 7, because you go from light to heavy cruisers and go back in time by about 20-30 years ;) I don't have a Pensacola myself (I can't make myself play Cleveland enough) but I imagine it may be similar to the jump from the Kuma to Furutaka on the Japanese side, where people take some time to adjust.

shouldn't Captains be given a visible rank status under their name in battles? so that all the noobs can stop given out BS strategy plans?
_Flyto_ replied to Maston_1's topic in General Discussion
Dear god no, don't give the self-important idiots even more ego inflation! -
A late followup: After getting frustrated with Cleveland I got an Aoba, and found this far better. Sure, cleveland can dish more damage at very short range, but at very short range you're gonna be torped. The Aoba's lower shell arc means that I can hit DDs most of the time at up to 10km - and it doesn't take many 203mm HE shells to do the job :-)

Is there a credit bonus for the winning team?
_Flyto_ replied to th3freakie's topic in Newcomers' Section
Yes, but not very much. There is a number of planes that is equivalent to a ship for credit/XP purposes, but I forget the number. It's quite high. And yes, seeing bomber squadrons evaporate is a wonderful feeling -
Loving the "starting tier vehicles available" launcher

I've taken US BBs up to T6 and enjoyed them all. I'm hating the Myogi, mostly because the shells seem to go in random directions, regardless of where you aim. And with only 6 barrels, that really hurts. Mind you, I'm having some of the same trouble with my ARP Kongo (lessened by the extra guns), so maybe it's just that I haven't figured out how to make the IJN BBs work...

Only ship I use it on is Omaha, helping it to specialise as a destroyer-hunter.

Losing karma by getting team-killed and reported by teammates
_Flyto_ replied to Praxzy's topic in Off-Topic
Yesterday I saw a cruiser shelling a friendly DD. The DD had to use smoke to defend himself. When I asked why, in chat, I was told "DD is idiot not spotting not launching". In fact the DD was spotting nicely, sitting just outside the range at which he'd be detected, and his torpedos were reloading... (I think some folk don't appreciate how long the IJN reloads can be at T6+) But apparently shooting the guy would help him, and the team, with this. The DD then got spotted, and died beause his smoke was on cooldown :-/ -

UK evenings, mostly. But if you just arrive on TS unannounced you won't have permissions to see most of the people in the channels. This recruitment post is a tad misleading ;-) So best to make contact (here) first, or hang around in the lobby (on a UK evening) for a few minutes, and somebody will probably notice you. (that's what happened to me at any rate) -
Hee, yes. Carrier captains seem to get very confused when the DD that they were spotting starts chasing down their planes :-)
-
Fair enough. I've just got the T4 Last Stand skill, which was my big goal for IJN DDs... T5 is a long way off, so I may well pick this up temporarily once I have another two points!
-
Hmm, that's true, I've always gone with the torpedo reload one for IJN destroyers. I think I stand by that for the Minekaze, but maybe with T6+, where you're not spamming torps anyway, I should rethink.
-
Agreed. If you know (or suspect) in advance where the target is, and can get the Minekaze's guns pointed that way in advance, it can certainly put more damage downrange. I finished off an enemy DD that way yesterday :-) But in an unexpected encounter, or any encounter that goes on beyond that first shot and thus involves manoeuvring, the problem is not so much how many guns are pointed the right way as getting *any* guns pointed the right way - and the upgraded Mutsuki does far better there. (sadly it goes downhill again with the Hatsuharu. The guns there are bigger, more numerous and more powerful, but they're slower to turn)
-
No deal. You need to unlock the longer range torps. Until then, it's pretty painful.
-
Heh. While that video claims to be about ignoring the minimap, that's about not even looking in front of you ;) Ignoring the minimap is bad for different reasons... But why do you think that not using A/D makes me predictable in my manoeuvring?
-
*grin* Maybe it's not for you, then...

Suggestion ability to turn off speech box...
_Flyto_ replied to Aranadin's topic in General Discussion
Please don't turn off the chat box. While I agree that 80% of its contents are pointless, it's also the only hope for useful communication and teamwork. Now, ability to mute particular players - THAT I'd support. In an ideal world players who had them muted would automatically reply (only to them) "la la la can't hear you" to help them rage :-) -
I only use Q and E. Yes, even in destroyers. I find that it fits much better with the "feel" of this game (you're giving helm orders, not driving a car), but also that it frees up my fingers and concentration to do other things. There's no loss of control - even in the nimblest of destroyers, one can double-tap Q or E faster than the rudder can shift one position. Moreover, in battleships (and some cruisers and even Japanese destroyers) it can be valuable to turn at half rudder to allow your turrets to track and stay on target. With that said, different people like different things. Try banning yourself from A and D for an evening (unbind them if it's hard), and see how you find it
