    IRL CV made all other surface ships obsolete, so how do you implement that in game without making all other ships obsolete?
  2. Nope. The game is mature, at this stage of its life-cycle they should (and are) be aiming to maximise revenue per user.

In the interests of accuracy, with Langley in training against a stationery bot it's possible to get off 3 attacks in about 40 seconds (first to last weapon release) however if you drop the first weapon at distance then drop 2 and 3 close up you can get impact to impact down to under 30 seconds. So 3 attacks in 20 seconds is a bit of an exaggeration but not an especially great one.
  4. Area targets maybe, i.e. smoke or large groups of ships. Also this reduces the effect of AA when ships are grouped together.

  6. And therein lies the problem, the biggest change to the game ever goes live and WG staff haven't played enough to master even the basics.
  7. What's for sure is that they never listen to what's said on these forums, because this is exactly what everyone who knew what they were talking about said.
  8. I played 11 games in T10 DD on PT, if you were cautions and the CV were potatoes then it was just about playable, as soon as you went up against one who knew what he was doing then no. Bear in mind that most of those battles were T10 only and AA heavy ships, on live against top tier CV, god help you.

    Farewell to RTS CV's

    The rockets (and everything else) takes a bit of getting used to, 30 or so games in my case, but once you get the hang they're fairly easy to hit with. The players you see missing are the ones who've free xp'd their way to T10 and are playing their first battle in the class, of course they're bad, but I think they'll improve a lot faster than players in surface ships.

DesMo threw his defence away camping behind the island allowing El2azer to get close without being affected by the AA fire until the last minute, problem is that's exactly how DM is supposed to be played. Perversely the weaker AA sniper cruisers don't suffer this problem and thus end up being the better AA platforms.
  14. Would anybody like to make a guess at how long the SkyPox experiment will last, my guess is seven days, but only 'cos 2 of them will be weekend.

  16. Does JB have some kind of crazy XP multiplier like Sims? She has a farily lousy WR% and unremarkable dmg yet sits 2nd in the XP chart for T9 behind Black.

    Lets be realistic for a moment, the players are mostly not complete idiots it's just that the game does a bad job of explaining to them what they're supposed to be doing and rewards bad gameplay far more than it should, new CV (SkyPox) is now probably the easiest class to get the hang of so I guess that anything that is at least a primate should be dangerous enough after a couple of dozen games.

    My experience from PTS (10 games Daring, 1 game Hairywhatever) was that DD were still just about playable if you can find a Worcester/Minotaur and stick close to him, but that was against bots who didn't focus you and CV players who were for the most part bad, the moment you come up against one that's half competent or your support gets themselves killed then you're as good as dead unless you can find your way back to your CV's AA cover, in which case you're marginally useful as additional AA support (fun and engaging game play). On live most CV won't be complete potatoes, there may not be as much air cover available (Mogami won't be much help against Midway), you will get focused the moment you're spotted, the enemy will have radar and will know how to use it and your team will most likely be more interested in pew-pewing at max range instead of escorting you to where you can do anything useful. Most damning of all, what this does is turn DD from very powerful late game units into a total ****ing liability that can do literally nothing other than act as additional AA support for CV or BB kerb crawling on line J. My advice to WG, either bin the re-work or bin all 6 DD lines above tier 2.
  19. Yes. Post re-work there will be aircraft carriers and targets, just like IRL.

Perversely it might even go up once players realise that you don't DCP a flood in the same way that you don't DCP a single fire, so if players let the floods tick rather than DCP immediately that might more than make up for the loss of the occasional perma-flood. What it will do is stop DD from taking advantage of the cool-down to stack perma-fires once the flooding forces the DCP, so it may be fire damage and kills that see a drop.

    I played one game on PT in the IJN T10 gunboat, dead within 5 minutes, 3,000 or so dmg, no chance of getting near caps, utterly unplayable IMO.

    I'm not even sure that a month or the full duration of the patch is going to be enough. WG are going to need many months and patches to "balance" the new game, the optimal build under 0.8.0 could be completely different to the one under 0.8.3.

I'm left wondering what DD are supposed to do in the game if they die the moment they get more than about 2km away from a BB or AA cruiser, I mean: they don't have the gun or torpedo range to farm damage at typical BB/CA ranges; they can't spot and it's worthless anyway with CV doing all that for them; they can't cap unless the team escorts them to the cap, if they're lucky they might be able to sneak one on their own if CV is occupied elsewhere but if they do they'll die the moment their smoke runs out (and good luck with that for the RN DD). and before anyone starts posting Bear Grylls memes there's no amount of "improvise, adapt, overcome" that will make DD playable in the SkyPox meta.

  25. The thing to realise is that you can see them and that it's not an instant yes/no damage decision. The flak burst appear as black clouds in front of you, if you fly into them several seconds later then they cause flak damage to the aircraft but you can navigate around them and mostly avoid them, just don't fly into the angry looking black clouds.
