None of which has anything to with your claim that average players are struggling. In fact you have not even specified what an average player is, Are you talking Median or mean Overall account performance in all ships or performance in carriers only?

Could you point to the "performing poorly" please: highest average XP; damage caused; kills per game; survival and K/D ratio off the charts; do not look like a poor performance to me. Might I also venture that a lot of players get bored of the repetitive gameplay very quickly and thus do not play the class enough to develop even the modest skill levels required to outperform any other class (and compare and contrast to the experience required to achieve similar performance levels in other classes).

Yep, IIRC a lot of servers were "no noobtube". I wonder if I can still get my copy to work.

Sorry for the repetition, but if you think that having to spec your entire captain/ship build around one ship that may or may not be in the game is balanced you should probably seek professional help.

I think I'd prefer an extra 4 point skill over SI/EM, not sure if I'd choose CE over FF or IFHE in the current meta.

Maybe in theory, but in practice only BB would have the spare time to use it effectively, thus making it overwhelmingly a buff for them only.

In which case full manual AA would just end up being another buff to BB who need it least.

Using captain skills to reduce the effect of potentially all 12 ships on the enemy team is a reasonable use of skill points, having to use those skill points instead to counter one ship that may or may not be in the game indicates a fundamental balance problem. And, as you mention yourself, saying "just spec for AA" assumes that there are some meaningful AA options to spec for.

Yay! Spec entire ship and captain build for marginal gains against one ship that may or may not be in the game anyway, balance comrade!. Edit: In fact are there any worthwhile modules/skills? Most seem to affect the amount/effect of flak and are thus meaningless against even half comptent CV. I doubt you'll find many on here who'll defend the HE spamming BB concept but in terms of balance Conq's WR% is average and she only gets above average damage thanks to large amounts of low value fire damage on other BB. On a more general point, BB at least offer something back to other ships, being useful targets for torpedoes or HE spam, in contrast CV are almost immune to return fire from surface ships so the return they offer to other ships in the game is practically zero.

Rocket planes v DD are bad enough, but what I really hate about new CV is what it takes from the game, regardless of class. The best games, IMO, were always the close, 20 minute games, where you end up with 2-4 ships per team and you as a player get to have a huge effect on the outcome, now what happens is that you end up with 2 ships plus 1 or 2 CV surviving and the surface ships can do literally nothing because they're spending the whole time evading endless air attacks. I honestly don't see how this can be solved.

Frankly I see no point in playing the game anymore. Playing anything but CV is pointless because you are simply nerfing your own damage/XP output and influence on the game, but at the same time playing CV (essentially one-way, zero counterplay, damage farming) very quickly becomes boring as . Even as a BB, I'd prefer to fight DD/CA that I can counter with skill rather than Skypox that I counter with RNG. I'll leave you to find an "Epic Fail" gif for me.

More to the point, how do you make a decision based on overall WR% when there's only 2 or 3 ships of the same class in the game.

Is it "these players" who are getting flamed though? Usually the really bad players manage to get themselves killed quickly enough that nobody notices, but it's the DD who don't suicide into caps in the first five minutes or the CA who are still alive when over 1/2 the team are dead who end up taking the flak, usually from BB players camping 10 km behind the front line.

It certainly requires a degree of imagination to think that slow vessels with short range weapons can counter something that can hide at the back of the map for the entire game. Perhaps one v one or in late game they might have an advantage in some situations but this is all if, if, if and probably applies in less than 5% of games, for the other 95%+ of the time their no threat whatsoever.

That's probably why WG pulled it, especially since it was a T8 OP. Did spotter Cleveland become a thing on the live server? I found on PT that it was increadibly powerful but never played it on live. -
It strikes me that rather than greed (or perhaps as well as), the real issue is to do with the internal management of the company. It's quite obvious that the developers were working to a deadline set down many months ago, ready or not new CV had to go live by a certain date, balancing was to be completed within two patch cycles so that premium CV could go on sale, there may have been a degree of flexibility but there certainly wasn't an extra 6+ months needed to get things even close to balanced. It's the same story with pretty much every WoWs disaster, RN cruisers weren't ready but they released them anyway, likewise everyone knew Belfast was hopelessly OP; Graf Zep fiasco plus however many other last minute balance changes.
