  1. Benham's not really affected by this, 1.4 km detection, if you use the existing module that goes up to 1.75, some of the PA's DWT might not be too badly affected if they are fast enough (unlikely that many cruisers will use the module, BB still won't be able to react in time), what this will kill is slower torpedoes that get their low detection because of their speed, so primarily: USN mk29 (Black) 0.9 km, 43 knots; USN mk15 (Mahan, Benson, Fletcher (stock)); 1.1 km, 55 knots; Ognevoi, 1.1 km, 56 knots; RN CL/DD, typically 1.3 km at 61 knots; Italian cruisers, 1.0 km at 51 knots (Zara & Amalfi) to 1.1 km at 56 knots (Brindisi & Venezia). Of course this all assumes that players using CE don't switch to the new module in large numbers, if the 5% (or more if WG decide) TPS buff prompts many more players to use it that then becomes a general nerf to all DD.

The Beginning is a Very Delicate Time

It looks a lot less healthy when you dig down into the details. About 75% of the reviews are from players with under 100 hours in game and a lot of the positive reviews seem to be from players with very few hours in the game who may never have played a random battle, when you filter those out and start looking the most helpful reviews things tend to look a lot less rosy.
  3. Things can be equal without being the same.
  4. Shouldn't all classes be equal?
  5. This is the problem with having a dominant class in the game, if you give one class the best armour, the best guns, the best AA, the most HP etc then you need to find mechanics to counter that class and make other classes relevant. WG tried with torpedoes and the rock-paper-scissors concept but the BB players didn't like that, so WG have spent the last 2 years trying to kill off DD and HE spam is what they've replaced it with and guess what, the BB players don't like that either and they won't like any other mechanic that might replace it (not that I can think of one). So what do BB players want? Total immunity to damage from other classes? They might enjoy that but the cost is making all other classes redundant and I doubt they'd enjoy 12 v 12 BB games either. It's still 5 BB every game, it has been for the last 3/4 years and the basic problem remains the same as it was on day 1, for the average player BB are too strong relative to other classes, but the BB players are also the most profitable customers so WG aren't going to do anything about that and you're just going to have to put up with mechanics as WG try to protect that entrenched position whilst trying to give other classes some relevance in the game.

    2020 foresight

Since for one time only we actually have 2020 (20/20) foresight I thought I'd ask what everybody's expectations are for the game for the next year, bonus points if dates are supplied. My first guess: April 1st Puerto Rico goes on sale in the premium shop for $$$$. Best wishes for the new year to all.

The Beginning is a Very Delicate Time

The thing is though that for f2p games. especially smaller ones like this, you need a sufficient number of f2p players to populate the servers for the 5% or so who are prepared to pay, if you make the monetization too aggressive and drive the f2p players away then MM has a hard time populating games even at peak times which then drives the remaining 5% away and the game dies. Unfortunately the way WG is going seems to be just that, short term cash grabs at the expense of the long term health of the game, ever more p2w in the form of legendary captains/upgrades, "perfektly balanzed" premium ships), continual powercreep and heavy monetization of events that excludes f2p players from them or even basic enjoyment of the game.

The Beginning is a Very Delicate Time

Industry standard for f2p games is that something like 2% - 5% pay anything at all into the game and the number of whales is well below 1% so for every player who goes out and spends say $50 on a high tier premium within the first 100 games you're losing perhaps 100 or more other players thanks to the frustration that CV bring to the lower tiers. Also worth noting that the longer that players play the game the more invested they become and the more likely they are to start paying for features, so it is true that that the f2p business model involves introducing a degree of frustration to encourage players to pay to progress, but that needs to be carefully managed to avoid players dropping off too quickly. Or to put it another way, driving 99%+ of new players out of the game within the first week or so in the hope of grabbing cash from the 1% who would likely have paid anyway does not sound like a sensible business strategy to me.

    Alternative CV treatment

Because that would make CV sniping a thing and WG cannot allow that because when it happens it's pretty much an auto-win for the other team.

Pr event appears to be a success for WG

And yet maplesyrup says 1,500 players for the ship last week on this server and WoWs-numbers has just under 70,000 battles total so I'm sceptical about that 11,000 claim.

Pr event appears to be a success for WG

Don't think so, they were at about that number a week or so ago.

Pr event appears to be a success for WG

Maple is saying 1,500 for w/e 18/01/2020, how reliable is your source?

    Remove caps for T4 CVs

Because then they would be boring and unfun to play. Which of course is the fundamental problem with the reeeeeeeework, you either have the power to on anything that takes your fancy or it's boring gameplay, there's no middle ground.
  14. Well then we have a problem, because if you understand the mechanics that's what they are. BB avoid torpedoes primarily by predictive defence, you avoid torps by awareness of where they may be coming from and vary your speed and course appropriately and if all else fails you have the HP and TPS to survive. Criuser players OTH use reactive defence, i.e. turn to avoid and evade, they are not usually the target of the torpedoes but they frequently find themselves in line of fire of weapons fired at other ships and need to use rudder to avoid damage, remove the ability to avoid and CA are
  15. The problem is not just DWT though and in some respects they're not that badly affected (primarily DWT end up being anti cruiser rather than anti-BB weapons and I can't see many of them fitting the module). The problem is with slow torpedoes that have the reduced detection precisely because they're slow, primarily the USN mk15 (Mahan, Benson, Fletcher, Kidd + PA) and some of the other very slow USN torpedoes (Black/Sims) as well as Ognevoi's 56 knot weapons and the Italian cruisers, these become functionally worthless ouside of YOLO rushes.

    2019 - a year in retrospect

Oh yeah, okay, right at the bottom of the text box, in a black bar, not completely obvious but it is there. Thanks.

    2019 - a year in retrospect

Not every browser supports that, I use Firefox and don't get the option, I know that Chrome allows it and I presume that IE allows it too, I don't know about any of the other browsers though. Unrelated and totally OT, having just checked I'm astonished at how dominant Chrome has become, damn near 70% of the market now.

How to manual attack with CV planes?

If you record the video as you are playing the game then you'll see the target reticule in the final recording, but a lot of videos are done from replay files which is why you don't see them.
  19. The players that mount it will be the ones that most frequently take substantial torpedo damage because they lack game/map awareness and the skills to counter torpedo threats, thus the effect on overall torpedo damage can be far greater than the useage of the module might suggest.
  20. What you also have to consider is the Pareto principle, aka the 80/20 rule, which might in this case say that 80% of torpedo damage comes from 20% of the BB players. If the 20% of BB players with zero situational awareness who sail in straight lines for minutes at a time suddenly get a tool that substantially reduces the damage they take from torpedoes then it doesn't really matter what the other 80% of the population chooses for their ship, if the 20% who chose the module see their damage taken cut in half, that's a 40% cut to total DD damage output. Obviously numbers are illustrative of principle and not necessarily a description of the in game's playerbase, but the point is that those who regularly take torpedo damage will take this module, and the others don't matter to the damage output anyway.
  21. IJN lines only AFAIK, what about the other 6 lines. "Sneaky" torpedoes generally means "slower", how do you think the likes of the USN mk15 are going to fare at 55 knots, or the Italian cruiser ones at 51 knots? What about deep water torpedoes? Sacrifice ability to hit some ships for improved stealth, oh except your stealth is now the same as everyone elses, but heck you've probably sold all the Asashios you're going to sell so who cares. Finally, IJN detection was nerfed in a failed attempt to reduce that line's popularity and had nothing to do with actual combat performance, now you're applying a global nerf to every other DD line that actually buffs the one line you wanted to control. Disgusting.
  22. The players who will choose it are the players who can't use concealment properly anyway, who are also the players who are likely to sail in straight lines and take devastating strikes from torpedoes, so even if it is a minority of players who choose it (and that's debatable) the effect on DD players is multiplied by the fact that those that choose it will tend to benefit the most from it.

    ST, Upgrades changes

Here's a thought, slot 3 is T5+ and T5 can't face T8 or the new slot 5 torpedo irrelevance module. Thank goodness there aren't any hugely OP premium torpedo boats that could take advantage of this buff at T5.

    ST, Upgrades changes

Here's a thought, are these changes aimed at BB players, or are they aimed at the new battleships/battlecruisesr/very large cruisers that've suddenly started making their way into the game in large numbers? Maybe WG have decided they don't want the $200 Puerto Rico players getting sunk by plebs in silver ships. Am I right in thinking that these new "cruisers" have a very poor torpedo protection value, if so the 5% buff looks much more significant than against a 60% protected Yamato, it also explains why there might be a sudden need for such a widespread torpedo nerf.

    ST, Upgrades changes

You must be new here. Every BB whine is always "we can't push because......" and after every BB buff they still camp at the back of the map and farm damage whilst using their team as meat shields.
