    Why nerf ships so heavily ?

    Why would stat-padders stay away unless the ship had been heavily nerfed? Surely even the worst potatoes must realize they're doing 0 damage and move onto something more effective. We have no evidence either way, but I'd be surprised if the reduction in the games played was overly represented by good players. WR is a lot harder to pin down for top players, since the WR heavily influences the player rating and quite a lot of chance and variability is possible on relatively small sample sizes. Damage is much easier to see and as I say is way down and shows no signs of recovery.

    Why nerf ships so heavily ?

    The number of Shimi games played last week is approx half of the number pre-nerf and there's no sign of improvement in WR or DMG, which we would expect if the bad players were being shaken out and the good players could still get it to work. I think the key statistic is the damage caused by the top players, if you look at players who have over 25 games in the last 2 weeks the very best are averaging 60's to low 70's damage, prior to the nerf you could regularly find players posting, 80's, 90's and even 100's. If the top players are so far down this is clearly far more than simple adaption.

    Search WT for players who played > 100 games yesterday: https://warships.today/players/eu There are 17 players there that are obvious bots accounting for over 2,000 games and I would guess quite a few more that aren't so obvious, I'm not sure exactly how many games in total were played yesterday but T5 looks to have had about 30,000 so I'd guess somewhere in the region of 100,000 - 200,000 across all tiers, which makes 2% a very reasonable estimate of bot activity.

    The difference between a bullet and a shell is that the surface area increases with the square of the caliber but the mass increases with the cube, so for example a 7.62 mm bullet weighs 10g, a 76.2 mm artillery shell has a surface area 100 (10^2) times larger but weighs 1,000 (10^3) times more than the bullet.

    Reporting players

    Perhaps forgivable if they're pairing with a T4, especially since Wickes is a T3 so there's only one tier difference, I once saw a Chester (or similar) in a T9/10 match, that's when you can get upset.
  8. Odd that people are complaining about DD captain skills, with IJN DD you actually have quite a lot of options. SA is a no-brainer LS is normally first choice but EM/TAE are viable alternatives. TA is less desirable post patch but Si/Vi are both options. AFT or SE are both great options CE is the obvious choice, but an argument can be made for not taking a skill at this level and using the points elsewhere. The big problem I have with captain skills is that there are few really attractive skills for non-DD classes, vigilance for CA is the only one that I'd say is a must have and even then it's not the end of the world to play without it.

    According to WT there are 17 accounts that managed to play over 500 games last week, all doing about 12,000 damage and all of which surely must be bots, below that are another 15 250+ game accounts many of which must be suspicious. Just looking at yesterday's stats I'd guess there were somewhere in the region of 2,000 obvious bot games, which I'd say means very roughly 2% of all games, or 1 in 50 players, so on average one bot somewhere in every 2 games played.

    Why has no-one mentioned the IJN DD at T8-10, with AFT you've got good range and a huge invisifire envelope, outstanding accuracy and far and away the hardest hitting shells of any DD. You don't want to get into a gunfight with another DD, but against anything else it's probably the most dangerous off all DD.

    Anshan has the torpedoes of a Soviet T9 DD and much better detection, the T6 Mutsuki has somewhat better torps but half the gun range and less than half the ROF. Anshan outperforms every T8 DD in the game and beats every T6 into a pulp, the case for a buff isn't exactly overwhelming.

    I'm not so sure, in a pure cap-fight the red teams Benson/Sims pretty much cancel out the green's Fletcher/Lo Yang and the Kiev is probably more useful than the Fubuki. Where the green team does have a significant advantage is in torpedo power, with the Fubuki v Kiev they're essentially 1 torpedo boat up and the other 2 are both substantially stronger than their opponent, which I think highlights a problem with the game and the constant demands for nerfs from BB players. If you look at the average damage output for the ships (using last week's figures) Green is 10,000 down on the battleships but 6,000 up on the DD, which isn't a huge difference, but if you look at the BB health pools the green team is 33,000 down, which is for example the average damage per game of the Fletcher. So what MM is doing is offsetting a -4 BB disadvantage with a +3 DD advantage, but how can this be compensation if the increase in damage output barely scratches the BB's increased HP?

    Perhaps this is a good reason why they've gone too far, the system needed tightening up but perhaps it could've been implemented gradually over several patches.

    Did you not read my post? Shells travel much faster and are much, much harder to avoid, the compensation for this is guns have RNG. Perhaps as an alternative we could add RNG to torpedoes but accelerate them to 1,500 knots.

    Check out the torpedo DPM on the 3 ships, Kami: 110,298, Fubuki: 98,612, even Shimi's only 146,789. Now the trick that the late tier DD can pull off is that they can focus all of their DPM into a single devastating blow wheras Kami can deliver smaller but still devastating blows 2 or 3 times more frequently, which is useful, but the late tier DD are facing enemies that have double the hit points, far stronger torpedo protection systems, far more powerful secondary guns, radar and generally better captains. Whatever the reason is for the DD heavy top tier games, it isn't because the ships are OP.

    Maybe we should also slow down BB shells to 70 knots, give them a 90 second reload and let everyone see them from 2.5 km away so they can take avoiding action if they like. If torps should have the same drawback as guns then why should guns not have the same drawback as torps.

The thread is open today, the pattern I've seen over the last 2 weeks has been a consistent decline in IJN DD numbers, it is replicated on the US server and to a lesser extent on the Asia server and I'm fairly confident the decline will continue for several more weeks. If the OP wants to make the claim "tbh battleships and carriers will no longer exist in 5-6 months if this keeps up", perhaps he should make that claim on a day when BB aren't the top played ship on the top 5 tiers.

    Is this the one where the game asks you if you thought there was a problem with the matchmaking, I got that once today, I presume it comes up if/when your side gets thrashed.

Massive DD nerf took place just under 2 weeks ago, I've been keeping an eye on the daily game totals and IJN DD have been on the way down consistently since then, give it a few weeks more and Shimi will probably be rarer than Gearing, at which no doubt the whining will be "OMG, USN DD are gunboats, NERF, NERF, NERF!".

  22. Most played ships on EU T6 and above yesterday: T6 - Fuso T7 - Colorado T8 - Tirpitz T9 - Iowa T10 - Yamato US server much the same except for Cleveland being slightly ahead of New Mexico at T6. Yeah, BB are really struggling aren't they.

    Torpedo soup - why it exist and what can be done

    Ever wonder what the green and red circles on the map are for? Perhaps BB could somehow assist in turning some of them green by getting closer to them and scaring away/sinking enemy warships thus ensuring DD aren't killed the moment they go into them.

    Does anyone know if that's 5% of the pre-patch damage or a 5% fall in the percentage, because if it's the latter and T10 BB were losing ~ 20% of their HP to torps and are now losing 15% that's a huge change.
