Staying alive long enough for the heal to work might not be straightforward.

That repair party looks pretty scary, the ability to repair 40% of their health in 5 seconds, how bad must these things be if the developers think that's justified? The ships' armour was obviously made intentionally weak with the knowledge that it would have a smoke generator to protect it, but with that now gone they've got a line that wasn't intended to survive in the current meta.

Cruisers are becoming more and more pointless
Capra76 replied to bloodynicknames's topic in General Discussion
But the BB were whining like mad about DD despite them being only a minor threat to them and WG nerfed DD like crazy. The consequence of the above is that the BB population has exploded out of control and is now causing MM to breakdown, cruisers are all but extinct and have IMO every right to be complaining about the situation. -

Balancing by MM rules is a poor idea, you're effectively trying to force people to play under-performing classes and limiting access to the better performing classes to those who are prepared to wait the longest, sounds like a good way to kill the game to me. -
Montana's struggling, so that needs a buff, and after that GK will need a buff, then it's Yamato's turn, at which point Montana will need another buff........................... Meanwhile, Khaba needs a nerf, then it's Gearing's turn, and after that Shima will be OP, so that'll need another nerf, then Khaba will be OP...........

Indeed, I think at least some of the current situation is a consequence of the nerf to the higher tier IJN DD. The BB captains might not have liked the torpedo soup (not that I think it was ever as bad as they claimed) but it did at least keep the population of BB in check, with their principal counter neutered there is now nothing to keep their numbers under control. -

It's doubly bad when you consider that cruisers are the only class represented in all the national trees and are shortly due to have a 5th line added (if the developers can find a way to make them work), so pretty much half of the ships in the game are almost unplayable (may in fact become more than half once the IJN DD changes come in) Only solution I can see is some pretty heavy nerfs for BB, and if WG haven't got the courage to do that then please don't bother releasing any more cruiser lines and just concentrate on producing a fantasy RU BB line. -

I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition.................. -
A good example from a couple of weeks ago, a Fubuki managed to put a torp into my Benson's bow whilst I was hiding in smoke. So far advantage to the Fubuki, but he then decided to charge the smoke which got him into a 3 km turning battle with me, and his full health Fubuki got mascaraed by my half health Benson with something to spare. He wasn't happy.

Gearing has close to double the rate of fire compared to the 12 gun ships so the actual number of shells fired per minute is pretty much the same (Gearing with BFT can fire 132 compared to Neptune's 144 and Minotaur's 150); the big difference is that Gearing has sub 6km stealth and the ability to fire from smoke. As a point of reference Zao can fire 53 rounds per minute with a 19% fire chance, so 7% gives approximately the same number of fires per minute for both ships. I don't know. I'm starting to suspect that the developers are getting confused by the idea of light and heavy cruisers and are trying to make some them into completely different types of ships. The reality was there was very little difference between the two ships except for the caliber of the guns, and the reason why the RN went with the 6" guns was they could penetrate anything that an 8" gun could, without causing problems with the London Naval Treaty, and were expected to be just as effective. These guys weren't fools, they knew as much about building warships as anyone, if they thought 6" guns were the way to go they were probably right. Edit: To elaborate, the light cruisers really split into two different types, the USN Atlanta Class and RN Dido class were optimised for AA protection and had smaller rapid firing guns, the Town and Crown Colony classes were intended to be surface combatants capable of fighting other cruisers on equal terms. -

It was already going that way before the KM BB turned up. I have to say I struggle to see what the point of cruisers is at the moment, they seem mostly to be at the bottom of the XP tables which cannot be fun. -

If seems like WG don't understand what a light cruiser actually was, the seem to have seen the word light and decided that they have to be incredibly lightly armoured and flimsy, when the reality is that, for example, the Town Class were bigger and better armoured than the IJN Myoko and Mogami classes and could certainly have taken them on in the real world. What was needed was a line of tough rapid firing ships with HE toned down to maybe 7% so as to not upset the battleship captains too much and AP maybe fiddled a bit to ensure reliable penetration. Instead they seem to be turning them into something more like a 2,500 ton destroyer leader than a 12,500 ton ship capable of taking any other cruiser ever built. -
Do you have Benson, Fletcher and Gearing or not?
-
Depends on the situation, if the USN DD can get into a close range turning gunfight and avoid the torpedoes then he should win every time, if the IJN can get involved in a 7km+ battle the odds shift in his favour. Odd, WarshipsToday seems to think the highest USN DD you've played is the Sampson.

RN cruisers dont have to be different or unique, only have to be playable
Capra76 replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
One of the super-testers stated that was the reason on the other thread. mtm78, on 13 September 2016 - 06:36 PM, said: Seems that RU forum is the reason of the changes, now my Russian is kinda weak but I'm told there are a lot of people complaining about HE and fires being the worst thing of the game. I want to bet that this big vocal group is mostly driving battleships. -

Translation: "the ships are an appalling pile of s*** and we have no idea how to make them work" I mean seriously, can any body tell me how these are even supposed to work. It sounds like they're going to end up like a nerfed version of the Russian DD, probably with less range and firepower, minus the smoke, minus HE ammunition but plus citadels and probably size to make aiming easy for the opposition. How on earth does a ship the size of a Pensacola or Myoko end up getting shrunk down to something that DD will laugh at? -

Capra76 replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
I think the problem was the Russian BB players were complaining about fire and HE spam, which would've gotten even worse with a line of ships putting out up to 150 rounds per minute with a decent fire chance, so WG panicked and is trying to turn the line into something unable to damage the battleships more AP focused. I don't think the smoke was necessarily a bad idea, the problem is that with it they are potentially OP, without it they are effectively useless. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they come up with. -
Because maybe you want to hit something? The reason for the nerf was BB players crying about DD hurting their poor little boats with 20km torpedo spam, which didn't actually exist (no sane DD player would launch from that distance), but sounded scary and unfair. To be fair, there probably were too many IJN DD in higher tier games, but that was more a consequence of BB obliterating CA leaving DD as the only viable class to play.
-
I'm curious, are the 100 mm guns on the Akizuki going to be able to damage larger ships, if not I think she's going to have a hard time earning credits and XP. As I see it she'll be useful for capping but then what? Hunting DD is a bit of a mug's game (the 203 mm guns on supporting CA always win), her torpedoes look close to useless, she presumably won't be much use at firing from smoke, as far as I can see she'll have a marginal role as a torpedo screen and in rare 1 v 1 DD fights but that's it.

Will the RN cruiser make high tier battles worse?
Capra76 replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
I think the thing to remember is that these are totally half-baked ideas put together in about 5 minutes once they realised that the smoke firing HE spammers weren't going to work (or would work but p*** off our BB overlords). The warning I gave is that terrible ideas introduced at this stage could still end up in the final version, I hope to god that WG get this right and find some way to make these ships relevant but the omens so far are not good. -

Er, what tiers do you play at exactly? What you say has some validity at the lower tiers, by the time you get to T7 you're talking about ships that are often almost as fast as the cruisers captained by players who, sometimes at least, know what they're doing. -

Ok, those are leaked stats from the first draft, if they make it into the game like that then we start burning stuff (although obviously not with RN HE).
