bastion - constructive criticism instead of bashing
Capra76 replied to St4n's topic in General Discussion
Problem: people will quickly figure out that you just don't go within 13 km of the forts unless you're brain dead, and if the DD is brain dead why are you running away from him? Instead of "camp in the corner until it's over" what you are describing is the ability to camp under cover whilst AI artillery keeps the red team at least 13 km away from you and beyond the effective range of most of their guns and you snipe back.- 40 replies

From NA and Reddit: Public Test 0.6.0 Part 2
Capra76 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I could be wrong but AFAIK HE doesn't pay any attention to the angle of the armour. -
The problem is this goes against the whole F2P model, WG need to include enough misery in the game to encourage players to progress to higher tiers and if possible get them to pay to speed the grind up, +2 MM is the way they do this.

Where are the Christmas convoy missions?
Capra76 replied to bigbramble's topic in General Discussion
Slightly O/T, but regarding the awards e.g.: Leander + permanent camo, what happens if you already have the ship? Presumably credit value and camo goes on the existing ship, do you get a port slot as well? -

You'll forgive me, but that sounds very much like you or your team have screwed up and are relying upon the forts to rescue you, I'm not sure I like that as a game mechanic.- 40 replies

Anyone else having problems with BB players and inteligence ?
Capra76 replied to Joergensen's topic in Archive
I think the difference is that bad DD/CA/CV players get punished hard and quickly, bad BB players on the other hand can border crawl, camp and generally be ineffective whilst still accumulating "reasonable" damage and XP and probably imagine they're better than they are, "I played well, not my fault everyone else got killed". Bad DD/CA/CV players generally have to either learn or drop out of the game, bad BB players can continue to potato all the way to the top if they like. -

What is it you like about Bastion that you don't get out of the normal domination mode? What does adding AI forts and spotting stations bring to the game?- 40 replies

Probably, but you get that anyway during the game, so I don't see why that's a bar.

A couple of very simple suggestions: Can we have the replay system enabled in the client rather than requiring us to modify the preferences.xml file and improved into something more usable (I'm fairly sure the YouTube guys would be especially pleased with this). Can we have some way of continuing the battle chat post game, this might improve game-play overall if players get the opportunity to discuss what they did and why.

Where the good players come into their own is in the 10% of games that would otherwise have been a narrow defeat where their additional contribution above an average player is sufficient to swing the balance to victory, , they'll still lose the 40% of games where they're matched with potatoes, that's why the best can't get much beyond 60% WR.
-
I've spotted another possible problem, the easiest way to do the AGS task that requires modified XP is to use every T5+ ship you have to maximize the benefit of the 100% weekend bonus, result: players in ships they're not familiar with struggling to cope.

German Destroyers, It has been an honor playing you!
Capra76 replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in Destroyers
I think the problem is that it's a line that feels like it's a line balanced around the ability to invisifire only for WG to decide to rip out that ability at the very last minute leaving them as mediocre torpedo boats with decent guns which you can't use because they're too easy to hit at long range and take far more damage from AP than other DD. -
Have a look at the number of games played each week per tier, T7/8 are far and away the most played tiers in the game, which has the effect of dragging everything else into their games. For example the number of Bismarck/Tirpitz games is not that much less than the total number of games played for T5 for all ships.

Does WoT have DD? Assuming not you're reference was clearly to WoW in which case my point stands. Edit: also:
-
Depends a lot on the map, the ship and circumstances, a few days ago I ended up on Trap in a New Mex and that was horrible, just too damn slow to keep up with everyone else and do anything. Farragut, TBF, can probably do better in a T8 game than some T6 ships.
-
You find the fact that a mainly BB player averages higher damage and has a better K/D ratio (survival) than a mainly DD player really funny? Very odd.
-
I hated Farragut when I was grinding up the line but I re-bought it for ranked and it now feels like an incredibly powerful ship if you know what you are doing.
-
TBF I've seen a horrendous number of totally one sided games this weekend, it's quite possible to get a run of total potato teams no-matter who you are. I wonder if it's linked to the AGS mission? Maybe players who aren't comfortable at T5+ are playing there anywhere to qualify for the mission? Maybe players are trying to grind XP as fast as possible and are giving up after the first few minutes if things aren't going their way.

I was under the impression that exiting the game before your ship is destroyed resulted in you forfeiting all rewards, am I wrong?

Mahan is easy mode? How bad are the new DD?

patch. 6.0 is a massive battleship buff, nerf to the rest.
Capra76 replied to gizaman's topic in General Discussion
I've said it before, but I think what WG is trying to do is force BB players to chose between a specialist (secondary/AA) build and a more general survivability build, which is likely to end up being a small nerf to the KM ships. The specialist build requires the player to invest 8 points in 2 tier 4 skills thus removing the ability to take some of the lower tier survivability skills such as firefighters whereas a survival build would likely ignore tier 4 altogether and grab 4 skills from tier 3. -
Mahan, with the C hull, has a 5 km AA rating of 12 so with a 300% def AA buff that's going to be 36 for 30 seconds, as a point of reference the T7 KM BB have a 4.5 km AA rating of 116. The only reason to run this consumable at T7 is because it messes up the spread of the bombs/torps dropped against you, but then only for 30 seconds and you're not going to shoot any planes down and frankly it isn't worth giving up 20% of your firepower in return. Possibly worthwhile with the Benson at T8, with 42 AA boosted up to 126 it's going to be quite effective, at least against lower tier CV, Fletcher gets access to it without having to give up a gun at T9.

Invisifiring - A simple solution.
Capra76 replied to ApesTogetherStronK's topic in General Discussion
You'll forgive my confusion, you described the game as it is played by new players at very low tiers and ignored the vast difference in power, accuracy, player ability etc between T3/4 and T8-10. What relevance does "DDs close in on the slower targets same as cruisers while the BBs fire away barely hitting anything until they get a bit lucky and may land a citadel which doesn't happen so often" have to T8-10 games when you've got BB that can melt high tier cruisers in seconds with secondary guns. -
Invisifiring - A simple solution.
Capra76 replied to ApesTogetherStronK's topic in General Discussion
I'm curious, have you played the game beyond about level 4? I ask because what you've described is the kind of thing that works against inexperienced players in level 3/4 battleships but is pretty much guaranteed to get you killed from level 5 onward and at level 6 you're going to be facing the Bismarck with 10.6 km secondary guns on a ship that's almost as fast as your DD.
