To WG: Is there anything being done about the essex/midway?
MeglerSmekk replied to fenrirspup's topic in Aircraft Carriers
The low tier IJN ships dont need a damage-nerf. They need removal of TB aircraft from fighter loadouts. 3/1/1 is still gonna outdamage the US loadout of 2/0/1 With a nerf to how much camage that 1 TB squad does per run. Either that or give the US fighter loadout a 2/1/0 loadout to Balance the IJN 3/1/1 loadout. -
Not true at all from my perspective. When I got to an Independence I gave up and went for a 2 fighters 1 divebomber setup. I did this because during the Bogue and start of the Independence run I was constantly overrun by Japanese fighter setups (That also had friggin torpedobombers, I couldnt believe it when I saw it.) With a fighter setup I was able to shut down the IJN CV most of the time, but I couldnt do crapwith my 1 DB anyway. So the game was pointless for both me and the IJN CV. But it was the only choice I had. There is now way an experienced IJN captain lets me use tactics like "lure his 3 fighter Group" over friendly AA. It was so boring however that I went back to the stock setup on my ranger. And when I meet a IJN fighter setup, my fighters and bombers are soon dead, while he keeps his TBsquad running all along. If they removed the TB from the IJN fighter setup, and replaced it with a DB, you would see alot less IJN fighter setups, and because of that a lot less USN fighter setups.

The point was that if the japanese CV has a 3/0/2 configuration and the US has a 2/0/1 configuration, the japanese has two separate Db groups and the US has one. When moving around the map, it is easier to hold down 1 group.Wether that is something people choose to do or not is besides the point, because the gamedesign clearly seems to be that US-planegroups are "tougher", while japanese planegroups are faster and in higher numbers.

But the Japanese have faster aircraft, and they are divided into two groups. That would give them a higher chance of actually reaching the target.

True. How about changing the Japanese 3/1/1 configuration into a 3/0/2 configuration giving them 3 fighters and two DBs? That would make the pure fighter setup abit more even between the two sides wouldnt it?

I am on an Independence atm. and finally gave in and went with two fighters and one DB. I felt there was no other choice due to the jap fighters. With two fighters I effectively take out the 3 fighter jap squads, and then take out their bombers. The games usually end up with me getting "Clear Sky", the jap CV having nothing to do, and me pathetically trying to damage something with my DB-Squad. (I do get an occational kill though) It makes me feel bad. I sort of ruin the game for the other CV and dont get much out of it myself. But I dont feel there is another choice. Against an experiensed jap CV captain, there is now way I can lure his fighters into a battle over friendly cruisers, and even then with his 3 squadrons against my 1, he will kill of my fighters before he dies himself. Guess the BBs on my team should be happy though, as I focus almost entirely on suppressing enemy TBs and DBs.
