  1. It's possible to compare solo, random ship stats though. @OP, I still prefer the option to choose Casual or Competitive Random. Easier to compare too. Not sure I'd be up for permanent Ranked either. I like jumping into a new season when I feel I'm up for it.
  2. Yea.. smoke is the way to go, and I think, if you can stomach dds, it's probably good if people keep playing dds. Just for balancing purposes and maybe to see if you can adapt to a new dd meta. I agree. I've seen some strange plays, which can make things more difficult, but this is probably just due to people not knowing yet how to play against cvs. Hotfixes make the meta even more fleeting. I think you just have to keep playing and adapting until things has settled down a bit. Of course... I guess it might be smart to pick your ships accordingly..
  3. Dds are tougher with cvs in the game just as before. Most of the times they don't decide that you die though. You have to play safer and some dds may need some adjustments to stay more viable. IJN torp dds aren't optimal, but still playable in cv games..
  4. Absolutely. No conclusive statements made. It's like DFens wrote probably mostly a string of bad luck, but it was your post explaining how you play dd in the current meta that made me check your outcome. El2azer is giving the advice not to play dds, many others claim dds to be unplayable. Showing a good WR over a larger number of games would contradict this. So far it looks like high tier dds very well may be in a bad spot.
  5. Just the WR, didn't check the rest. The question is whether dds can perform well enough to affect the WR or if cvs shut them down completely. Yea, maybe. I need to play dds more and see it for myself. So far things have been okay in my games.

  7. I've been doing fine in dds after the rework. I just haven't played IJN dds, or any other for the matter, enough to say they're in a good state. (That's a lot of red dd stats you've got there over the past 7 days... )

    Still in week 2 after 0.8. I doubt you'll be able to keep those numbers up at the end of the balancing process. Maybe you will, but I doubt it. Good to see you're having fun though
  9. If the IJN dds are in a bad state now, don't you think they will be balanced to perform adequately in the upcoming patches? How did you expect the cv-rework would turn out? People adapting at no time? all lines in perfect harmony? I'll play the IJN dds more in the weekend just to see if they really are as weak as stated, should be interesting.

    The same arcade mode game? what do you mean? It's been almost 2 weeks since the patch kind of revamped the game. We all (well, most..(maybe I'm overestimating the community again.. )) knew it would take some time before things settle, yet people still act like babies when things aren't perfectly balanced from the start. We'll see in a number of weeks how the meta is. Now, it's perfectly playable, but in some areas it needs adjustments.

  15. I don't disagree that some changes likely will be necessary, but I think it's too early to change things too much. There might be an issue with permaspotting dds, but otoh I've had great dd games too lately, against cvs. I think more time is needed for players to learn the basics of cv- and anti-cv plays. It's just 1,5 week in and I have no idea what opponents I've run into during this time. I've only reached tier 6 cv, but so far both Langley and Ranger have been decent fun, for what they are supposed to be.

  17. I've suggested this before, but it makes more sense now than ever - divide Random Battles in two. Make players choose if they want to play the Veteran Random games variant, otherwise they end up in Normal mm queue. Veteran Random game: 50% more xp earned, 20% or so more credits. You're likely to face more experienced players and you may face cvs. Possible upcoming changes and ships are tried here too. Normal Random game: Nerfed income by some degree due to facing mostly newer players + no cvs. I get that queue times could increase by a small degree, but if too long you just throw people into the Normal queue. One reason for more secure mm is that some players just won't get better and I think them facing cvs will ultimately make them leave the game. Not just those who express their opinion on the forum. The potential to harass ships/players with cvs won't go away and honestly needs more competence to counter than I've seen in lower tiers. Too many positives and too few negatives to not try this imo.
  18. I'd go back to CE while you can change it for free. CE still makes a huge difference for dds and for 14p IJN dd, I don't see many better options. I don't have Asashio, but it seems to be a ship which you could play more conservatively a still be effective. edit: ..and to be clear, AA should come on when plane spotted..
  19. Press 'p' at the start of the battle to turn AA off. Don't wander off too far without an exit route or smoke ready. ..you may want to switch Torp reload booster for smoke. Tell me which dd is unplayable in the current meta.

    CA AP on CL - overpens through citadel or not?

    The issue is the overpen mechanic at close range vs light cruisers - the class heavy cruisers should counter, but this issue is the same for bb AP on close range broadside cruisers - you don't get citadel hits when the enemy has made a mistake, all you get is overpens. It's counterintuitive and exploitable. Oh.. is that a heavy cruiser trying to sneak up on me? As long as I keep enough broadside toward him, the damage he will be able to do against a light cruiser is pitiful. He got 2 full AP salvos on my broadside. Should he have used HE? No, he was toast because I didn't angle away. It's just a bad mechanic in the current form.
  22. Lower your expectations when uptiered is my advice. 50-60 damage doesn't sound bad. Maybe others can give you some gameplay advice.

    The thing is, it's not skill based mm. No one want that. This is choosing a preferred environment - a causal mode or a more competitive and experimental one. PTS wasn't enough. This would be a semi-PTS and if it solves some issues among the player base - not needing to adapt too quickly - that's a pretty big bonus. I wouldn't mind Quickybaby's idea considered, but that would probably take a whole more time and effort to implement.

    I do Atlanta without AFT. I think it depends on what way you play. ...might be the reason why I can't play Wooster though..

    I'm testing manual AA on most ships and it's working well I think. I think it's beneficial on dds at least. Cvs tend to not harass me too much. Maybe it's part of the cv nerf, I can't tell.
