Fundamentally flawed mechanics of the game

Mechanics are changed to make the game better. If mechanics are changed to something better it will be intuitive for both those who understand the mechanics and those who just play the game. Having people learn not to show full broadside in some instances, while making full broadside the only way to survive is counterintuitive for most players. Is it a good gameplay mechanic that makes the game more fun/better? I'm not sure. I doubt this 'overpen of citadel'-mechanic was intended from the start or that it makes for a better game. If they would look at this mechanic and change it, then light cruisers, as you're implying, would be worse off. Of course they'd have to change other aspects as well and buff the affected ships in other ways. Maybe take less citadels when angled or at range? This isn't about buffing or nerfing ships or classes. Just mechanics that seem bad imo. I agree. Hybrid classes should exist and lines are blurred. All ships doesn't need to fit a specific class. Makes the game more diverse, yes. I still think it's a good idea to look at some of these mechanics and perhaps alter them somewhat, if the game would be improved by it.

Fundamentally flawed mechanics of the game

This is what I mean by that some mechanics have become flawed in that they're not intuitive any more. Instead of buffing or nerfing individual ships to have a correct overall WR, I think there's a need to look at the overall class balance and what should counter what. Which situations should be advantageous for what ships and classes. Just to make the game more intuitive. There's a risk in only putting out small fires and not seeing a bigger picture.

Fundamentally flawed mechanics of the game

It's also what the entirely clueless use to stay alive. Doesn't mean it's a good mechanic. Every time I see a königsberg leisurely passing by my New Orleans with full broadside, I don't think 'what a play!'. I just know it will take several salvos of either AP or HE to take him down and that I'd be so much better off with a light cruiser to make the AP shells stick. Maybe it is. I think there's some truth in my argument, but I'm not that sure. It's up for debate at least.

Well regardless of what you think there are some people who can discuss things just fine without butting in with nothing useful to add.

Fundamentally flawed mechanics of the game

The flaw in your argument is that you're making strawmen. The game is fine, I've never stated otherwise. I'm not looking for "oh im a cruiser and spotted a dd, bang its dead just because im a cruiser" - never wrote it as black and white. The game is better off if it's inuitive. I've given a few examples where I think the mechanics are flawed, probably because the game has bloated from the abundance of ships, mechanics and gimmicks. I think the game may be improved if these mechanics were looked at - dialling back to make the game a bit more intuitive. We know they are looking at IFHE at least. So no whining, just some arguments on a discussion board. Feel free to not add these 'git gud noob' suggestions. Agreed, but I'm guessing this will be balanced in time Not a flawed mechanic. For gameplay purpose. Works well enough and people understand how to use it. Counterintuitive, but the devs have supposedly tested a variant where it doesn't, and the change was too big/didn't work as well. I wouldn't mind trying a different type of radar, but it works quite well in the game with the current delay, imo.

    Ironium shortage

Yea, at least I got a whole month to figure out what to do with my 580 Ironium. I always spend more money on products when I get blueballed like this. Very Ironium

How long till Submarines arrive ?

You should be able to figure out where you're wrong in the posts you just quoted.

How long till Submarines arrive ?

Sounds like success for that sub. Managed to sneak up, get an attack, stay undetected because the enemy had no defensive ships near, and get away. Not being detected for a minute or so could ofc be swapped for any other requirement that is better - maybe no enemy ship within 6km? RL should be a clue of that sub not being around - if RL still would be in game and function. I think you end up with one of two versions - action type subs that are fast, detected every now and then, bobbing up and down, or something else that is slower, more tactical, but that would require some new feature/gimmick. Well, I never said they should have that ability.

How long till Submarines arrive ?

Why? You're making too many assumptions already.

How long till Submarines arrive ?

Would make things more interesting, wouldn't it? Yea. ..or just a solution to keep the subs fairly slow and vulnerable while letting them be ambushers. Let them 'pre-deploy' at the start of the battle - half map to choose from. If undetected for a minute or so and the consumable not on CD - let them redeploy again for another position. Ofc there has to be rules to prevent abuse, but I think there's some potential in this idea. This rather than the bobbing gameplay of the Halowen event.

Which is why you could consider giving subs a redeploy consumable. If no enemy ships are near - subs are able to deploy to another portion of the map by using this consumable. Just to keep the speed of subs down and vulnerability up, while retaining their ability to ambush.

I did that and I'm still missing a few bits

Please keep carriers out of ranked

I guess it would be interesting to see how this would turn out. No matter how people try to spin it, you always get a concentration of better players closer to rank 1. If cvs are in - which classes will be used to rank up in? how will the meta turn out? will dds have any effective role? will cvs be able to join in at closer ranges? That said, I feel very little desire to try rank up in a dd in this presumed meta.

I think I'm in the same situation. There's a month to go, so maybe new ways will pop up..?

    Suggestions thread

I managed to sneak up on a Midway in my IFHE Wooster. He just turned away a sailed off. Plenty of salvos, minimal damage and I think I got one fire on him before his Montana friend persuaded me to stop shooting. In Atlanta, you do damage until the cv is fully saturated, then you're screwed. There's no point at all trying to kill RN cvs if you're in a dd, unless you're meeting him head on. I agree. Something seems off.
  16. Yea, I like it too. Maybe there are some things that could be learnt from this mode. I'm 20 Ironium short of a LM though... any chance of getting those missing.. ..or is it supposed to be just out of reach...?
  17. Torpedo beats was fun. Rules and mechanics are simple and enjoyable. Gameplay is fast. Good addition to the main game.
  18. Not liking the space theme. I don't mind it being there, but it detracts some of the enjoyment for me, for some reason.

    Q/A by players

I think I just citadeled a Gneissenau through the front with a New Orleans. Crappy yolo situation, but the citadel surprised me. Should it be possible or a bug?

    Q/A by players

Secret sources tells me that bridges do not count as citadels. That cit is one of those "magically impossible" ones that we get every now and then. Most ships, well, at least BBs, seem to have these magic spots. BBs can be citadelled while being both - bow on and stern on - by hitting her superstructure in a particular "sweetspot". Shouldn't happen, but thanks to WGs magic it still does. My theory is that shots are deflected beneath the turrets toward and penetrating the citadel, but my knowledge about shell mechanics and armour is pretty sketchy. So, is this working as intended, is it an unforeseen but rare and acceptable mechanic of the game, or is it a bug?

CVs and gaming enjoyment in WoWs: 2nd Survey

I'm pretty neutral about games with or without cvs now. Imo it's a lot better now than before the rework. Being targeted by a cv now usually doesn't mean you're dead just because the opposing cv player is good. Cvs do add another layer to the battles, some reasonable amount of influence without being OP. That is when I play bbs, cruisers or cvs. Dd gameplay is still hurt by plane spotting, resulting in games less fun when in dds. It's just one dimension lost for dds not being able to rely on stealth and spotting to the same degree. The dd game isn't broken, just, imo, less fun.

Which Legendary upgrades would be good to have?

GK for semi sec build because it's braindead=fun.

    Q/A by players

Next question not worth a new thread... Why does WG want to know my 5 favorite fast food brands, 5 best toy brands and 5 favourite celebrities? I usually avoid lengthy polls because of reasons, but when WG wants to improve the game, I think - well, I'll give them a few minutes and my opinions. That is until these questions pop up. You want player opinions, you poll for them. These questions are just roadblocks.

    Q/A by players

There it is. I suspected they stored some black powder on the bridge and just went for it. 7k damage on the Gneissen and then proceeded to eat some torps to end the game
