Tips, hints on how to improve as a DD player
loppantorkel replied to Molly_Delaney's topic in General Discussion
I think Gearing, YY, Z-52 are somewhat obsolete at the moment. They're probably all playable (don't have the Z-52), but there are better choices around and these dds struggle to fit into the current meta. -

Exactly. I was going to watch that video and post a thorough rundown too when I saw Nihilan had done it already... Excellent post and advice, @xxNihilanxx -

Sounds good, just beware of pushing too deep on a flank. I like the strategy, but I've been mistaken on the strength of the enemy on said flank too many times. Makes for some good games, but I'm still adjusting how/when/where to commit to pushing flanks. -

Enemy positions aren't known until later, but you can check potential threats/bad match-ups by pressing TAB. You move in at start to support your smaller ships. dds move out to spot (kind of what you want), cruisers follow to support the dds and increase the survival of the dds, bbs (you) move to support your cruisers and dds. If you stay at spawn you're not much of support. That said, it's great to have a plan forming what to do if it appears the enemy fleet is lemmingtraining your way, or if you've got no back-up. The other scenario could be that there's enough support on your flank because you've got some bad bbs leaving their flank to join yours. If you've been sitting afk for the first few minutes, that off-flank is likely getting stomped by the enemy. Sometimes, in the right ship, you can somewhat mitigate that damage by going there early. There's no reason to sit afk the first minutes to understand what is happening or what to do. -

It's a bad method still. If you want to improve, use the pre-battle time to check teammates and enemy ships/players and where you probably is of most use on this map, go at the start of the battle, adapt to the new circumstances as they appear. It's just bad manner to start afk. You're leaving the enemy team at advantage every time you do. -

Wth??? I hate seeing this in games. You're 2:30 behind the rest of your team in positioning. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
loppantorkel replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much sums things up. By no means a good game. My main contribution was dislodging a yamato from an entrenched position. I would've liked to see more of the Colbert but had to help on the other flank... -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
loppantorkel replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
I suppose this thread is a better base for these discussions.. If we stick to WG games and WoWs in particular - what mechanism could a trained player uncover here? This isn't Candy Crush, manipulating with the MM or the RNG in a too obtrusive way will make players catch up on it and likely leave the game. WoWs doesn't have a community large enough to risk getting caught in this and these players are likely a fair bit more stingy and analytical compared to the ones playing Candy Crush. I think it's a balance act. The MM is governed/manipulated to create good games, even to the point to lower frustration among players - this means some other players may be put into their place, creating a 'bad luck' MM scenario. There are two camps as I see it - those too paranoid about WG and those who may be too trusting. I've got no big gripes about WG. Some things are necessary to keep the company running. Me spending money once and awhile for a good game isn't by naivety on my part. -
Legendary module for new tech tree and premium ships

Last I heard they're put on hold for now. No new are being developed. I've got a faint recollection that it was hinted they might go a different route. -

Wellll... Maybe they've found the correct RNG formula for you to keep spending.. All in all, we know the MM takes plenty of things into account before the battle starts. Even more things to come in a patch or so where there's further manipulation in tier 8 ships not being low tier for too many games, correct? I'm not sure how much of the RNG that is true or MM is fair. It's obvious these things will be more and more manipulated by the industry as time goes by. No doubt about it, the question is how it will be informed - will all things be under wraps for as long as possible until players find out by different means, resulting in a huge outcry, or will the companies be more upfront with their methods? Edit: the inclusion of bots into PvP must be one of the things WG have considered (if not already tried) - they could probably perform better than the worst players in the game, they would not sulk about defeats and they would bring morale up for the opposing players which are presented with easy damage and contribution to their team. The issue ofc is the acceptance among the players. For some reason sinking a bot is not as rewarding as sinking a complete potato. -
I meant the 10% SAP cap on dds, which was discussed. I imagine it's one of the easier things to correct if needed.
-
I agree on most, but I feel something is left out - the psychology of the playerbase. For this map - northern position usually goes more heavily toward C while southern usually prefers push on A, sometimes full on lemmingtrain depending on the potatoness of the team. Knowing this and seeing a lemmingtrain form to go A, contesting or denying C is usually pointless. Delaying the enemy fleet to push south too rapidly from C can be a way to help the lemmingtrain continue to B before getting stuck in A. The issue with this is ofc if the southern team doesn't stop there, but continues to push C while the northern team sits back in cover in C and picks them off one by one. Strategy and tactics is one thing. Preventing the usual throw is another.

If you gimp your primary damage enough by focusing on secondaries, it still might not be worth it. Aren't all secondaries on the french bbs pointing backwards? I've never tried to spec them like this. Otoh, I'm only doing decent in them. Too often I push at the wrong time, I suppose. -
Could be. Seems fairly one dimensional, and in high tier cv games, I'm not sure how they'll do. Pretty fun to hunt down Asashio with a tier 6 dd though.
-
Really everybody? The reload boost is pretty decent at tier 6. Torps are a whole lot more usable too. Smoke is good but you can work around the lack of it. I'd say the Guépard is a more powerful dd compared to the Aigle.

Only when I'm bored

Strange thing that people are experiencing it now. I've had this bug appear several times before, just very sporadically. I think it was mostly during cruiser play - DM/Wooster. I rarely play them now.
-
I think I know where this is going. Lorries need some nerfing

It performs much better for me than Aigle. I don't care why

The French dds? I haven't watch much of their streams lately. I don't see any reason to get upset over a cap on dd damage. I think that would be one of the easier things to balance/correct if damage output on dds turn out too low. I'm more worried about the functionality of SAP and its effectiveness vs light cruisers.
-
We'll see. 10% does seem a bit on the low side, but... From what I understand, this is supposed to counter light cruisers more than dds. Light cruisers blap dds, Italian cruisers blap light cruisers. I'm okay with the downside of this capped damage on dds. If it's 10% or 20% - that has to be tested.
-
That is a bit strange... I was hoping for a good solution at close range against cruisers. If not - there's really no reason to move in aggressively. You don't have a good answer to either dds or light cruisers. Hope they sort it out.

Maybe buff the gun turret firing arcs of the Aigle?
loppantorkel replied to Procrastes's topic in Destroyers
I've only played the Guepard a couple of games, but it seems to be at a better spot than the Aigle ever was. It doesn't have much else going for it and last game I had in it (never felt much inclination to play it because it's always felt below mediocre) I thought the gun characteristics really should be a bit better in the Aigle.- 1 reply
