Smolensk - Why I prefer rangebuild
loppantorkel replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in Videos & Streams
So, what's your opinion about it? I kind of thought it would be like a Mino in the open given the firepower and its smoke. Seems to be tougher to hit and a lot more tanky. -
Smolensk - Why I prefer rangebuild
loppantorkel replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in Videos & Streams
I haven't met that many Smolensks yet, and specifically not when playing bbs. I did last game and while we won it, I thought it was tougher to sink than expected - very hard to do damage to. Both opposing Smolensks survived to the end and they didn't play it too safe. One full broadside in GK and all I hit was one overpen at 12-13km. I might have been unlucky or aimed badly, but it's a small cruiser with a lot of firepower. Not sure about its manouverability or armour layout. We'll see. Stats say it's not OP, and I've no reason to believe it is yet, but if there's one thing that differs from a similar ship in Minotaur which is very punishable, it is that Smolensk might have a tad too high survivability. -
It's a dirty tactic, but when all else fails, you go for the ankles.

This is your first post on the forum and you use it to reply to a guy (and call him an idiot) who created this topic over a year ago and he himself hasn't been seen on the forum for the last 6 months. Can you explain your thought process? -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
loppantorkel replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Don't you have any go-to ship in which you can carry a decent amount of games? If MM is too bad and you still want to try a few games - pick your go-to ship and if you can't win in it - accept it and take a break. I usually do something like this. Doesn't matter if MM is corrupt or not. -
So? When did seal clubbing become an issue?
-
Is that why you managed to rank out earlier seasons?
-
Dividing Random games in two pools to choose from would solve many issues. Players opt in for Competitive Random, otherwise they are pooled in Casual Random. No skill based MM, just players choosing their preferred competitive level and opposition.

I've only played a small number of games so far, but there seems to be a good number of dds this Ranked season. No cvs to worry about, so it kind of feels like old times. I know the cv rework is still fairly disliked, but things have calmed down quite a bit. I wonder if this possible dd meta in Ranked causes issues for the other classes or do they prefer this to cvs? What do you think so far of Ranked Season 13? Do you want future Ranked to be cv-free or are cvs good to keep dds under control?

A world without cvs - I e Ranked Season 13
loppantorkel replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
Final ship stats of the 13th Ranked season, sorted on WR and by popularity. I suspect the bottom ships have their stats dragged down by worse than average players. The ships likely are below average, but the stats probably look worse than the ships really are. -
It was popular because it was a very good season. Yes, there were issues as in all earlier Ranked seasons. Bad players got to the top by pure grind and luck, easier than earlier seasons, and they kind of sabotaged R2-R5 to some degree. Ideally they'd be pushed down in earlier ranks. ...but I'd say this was maybe the best balanced season of all. dd meta maybe wasn't for all, but it made for plenty of intense moments. 3-4 dds per team made the gameplay very dynamic - less campy compared to bb or cruiser meta. Usually 1-2 bbs/cruisers meant they had to commit to pushes and often move between bases. Most dds were viable - silver and premium. Kitas dominated in numbers but weren't OP and could be countered. Some bbs and cruisers were better than others, but there was a decent variety. It was a frustrating season, but a good one and the frustration mostly comes from not progressing, which is reasonable. The average player is better than in Random games so the encounters are tougher and the ability to decide battles is slimmer. Lots of complaints about different things in Ranked but I see no player made polls of what players want changed, just complaints and various contradictory wishes.

"LittleWhiteMouse" views on Russian BB line (from Russian Tier VIII BB "Lenin" review) compared to some old(er) BB lines - namely German...

'Some people are biased because it's a Russian ship' doesn't seem like a huge overstatement. He says they'll nerf Smolensk if necessary. Seems reasonable and I'd rather see them continue doing these Q/As. -
I've not said there aren't any good tier 5 ships or that I mind there being perma camos at tier 5, I'm just not personally interested and don't care for them being implemented.

loppantorkel replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
GK is the obvious. I'm kind of grinding the Russian bb-line slowly now, so I'm not really playing a lot of mid tier bbs of other lines. I did take GK out for another try and it's still working as intended That said - I'm not arguing some German bbs shouldn't be looked at for a buff, it's just this general 'buff the whole line' that's unreasonable. Why buff ships that aren't UP? It's still obvious - Nerf Kremlin and possible some other RU bb - I don't know the data - then look at other ships - specific ships, not lines - that need adjustments. This shouldn't need arguing over. This goes for some other ships as well - buff Gearing, Z-52 and YY slightly instead of hitting Daring with the nerf hammer. It's better to fix the ships that are off first. -
What is the best Coal ship to get now?

I recently went for Georgia and don't regret it. People think Smolensk is OP and perhaps it is. I'd go for the ship that seems fun to play and suits you. -

Come on, why would a general T1-10 buff to a line ever be a good idea? Nerf the ships in the new bb line that need nerfing, then look at specific ships that need buffing. -

Finally ranked out, but it took a lot of 'passive tanking' in Randoms and some reboots to get the proper MM to carry me there -

I don't think GK needs a buff, it still feels quite strong in Random battles. The rest of the German line? Better be specific which ship needs buffing. Gneissen feels pretty bad but I've only played it a few times. I'd rather not play FDG again, but it has been buffed. I think we'll see a Kremlin nerf in awhile and maybe some other RU bb. Not sure any widespread changes are needed for the overall balance... -
I don't see much reason for it, so 'nope' for me.

Colorado, you're a steaming pile of you know what...

I don't mind taking Colorado out for a game or two. Not often, but it can still be fun. Not a horrible ship imo. -

No, but that's some excellent cheating...

That only goes for Random. We all know the MM in Wows isn't completely random, less and less so in fact, mostly due to player complaint and ofc WG trying to improve the product. Question is if the streaks are completely random. They're not. Players all have their ups-and-down, they play different tiers, they grind ships they are bad in, etc, etc. This influences their WR short term without many of them not realising it. Is there any incentive for WG to manipulate the MM to make profit if possible. Of course there is, but also a huge risk. Plenty of gaming companies already uses gambling strategies to increase profit. Is the MM exempt from this? You could write it all down to RNG, or you could go and tank a bit in Random games to boost your WR and rank out faster in Ranked... Your choice.. -

Lets say you have a bad streak... if you play out the bad streak in Random games and go for Ranked when the luck turns... then what? Profit?
