I disagree. I'm not using torp acc. 12 km torps are good enough. 8 km are fine too, but a bit less versatile imo.

Depends on what you're asking. I play GK for fun and enjoy still enjoy the ship. It's a decent tier 10 bb for Random games if you know the game decently well. If you're struggling for funds, GK won't help you and it will probably not be enjoyable to play while losing credits every game. I'd pick a tier where I know I can be a positive influence for the team, while earning credits and having fun. In a while you might have the funds for GK, afford a premium account and have more fun playing tier 10.

Not to derail the thread by trying something constructive, but there's a point in the argument that HE is becoming a more and more valid choice compared to AP. Yes, AP does more damage on broadside ships. ..unless they're showing too much broadside and you're treated with overpens, the ship has an underwater citadel, or the armour is to thick, or if dispersion is so bad you're unlikely to hit the citadel. That's on broadside ships. On all other scenarios you need to know a lot more about the angles, the pens, the armour to get reliable AP damage. 2015 there were 2 lines to know the armour, calibres and possible pen angles. Today there's 300(?) ships to keep track of and given that >90% of the players likely have no clue about most of these things, I'd say HE is a solid choice for most to get damage done. I know good players use AP to great effect. For me, I'm starting feel an inclination toward HE, unless I'm in a good spot to do good AP damage, but these occurrences feel less frequent than before. Then again, I've never learnt the calibre or armour of more than a couple of ships. I'd love to see some individual stats for AP vs HE usage...

Why WoWS creates toxic players and fix

Guys, I just got the mission for Raimondo Montecuccoli

It feels like a below average tier 5 cruiser. Perhaps okay vs same tiers but it suffers a lot when uptiered, in my experience. -
..Submarine 1 vs 1?

After i reaced my first tier 10 BB.... i say tier 10 battles UNPLAYABLE
loppantorkel replied to APFSDS_shell's topic in General Discussion
The meta in tier 10 has changed lately though. Given MM changes with all tier 10 ships (which is good), there's more firepower than before. More CV games than before add to that. Ships like Smolensk which are commonly occurring are locking down portions of the map (no, not by themselves, but given their survivability, great DPM and the usual initial strength of the teams early), the games require a lot more caution than before and the tier 10 games are more campy as a result. I could play GK more aggressively pre-smolensk. Not a complaint, just a reflection about tier 10 games. -
It is a broken ship. The counters are few. WG will realise it is bad for the meta and Smolensk will be changed, or perhaps just removed if the backlash is too severe. The question is when?

ST - Co-op matchmaking, 14 Ranked season and other improvements
loppantorkel replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
Cvs will of course be mirrored. I haven't seen any news about changes to Ranked - cv - starsaving which means, if unaltered, cvs will continue to slow the progression for all other classes. And there's still an issue going into a semi-competitive mode with a 50% chance of having completely different types of battle. Removing the star saving capability of cvs would at least let them focus more on support rather than gathering xp. I'll have another break this season. -
Yea, that's implied. It also puts me in a weird position where I can say the cvs are too influential because I keep losing... Edit: but honestly, how influential are tier 8 cvs in tier 10 games? I don't think I performed that much worse than the enemy cv in that environment. 7 games in I managed to get the first victory and it was a carry from the depths of hell. Enemy cv deserved to win but was denied by "F***ing suicidal monkeys".

So, today in 3 tier 10 games, I've yet to win in Lexington... Somehow I'm not getting the advertised experience
-
Not going to argue against this. Cvs have been buffed or AA have been nerfed too much lately. It's what I meant about cv strength changing from patch to patch. I've played a few Clemson games to check and it's torture if the cvs focus in on you. torp range 5.5km, almost no AA. Not ever going to call Clemson bad, but cvs are broken atm.

I don't mind El2azer pointing out flaws in the rework. He's got plenty of insights that I have no clue of. From my own experience, playing bbs/cls/cas/dds I still find cvs to be an issue and often something that lessen the enjoyment of the games. I won't play Ranked games if cvs are in (not anymore), it's just too broken, rework or not. However, just by experience or looking at the stats of El2azer, it seems like the chance of upsetting a superunicum or a unicum cv player is slightly easier now than before. The game isn't lost at start to the same extent.
-
Yea, the late game problem needs some attention, I agree. They should cap planes or lessen the respawn.
-
It varies from patch to patch. The influence of cvs have risen again lately imo, but not to the level pre-rework. I think they'll continue to balance cvs vs AA and spotting continually. With subs incoming, dds role might be adjusted too.

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
loppantorkel replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
It's how it starts... that nagging little doubt... All of a sudden you're making tinfoil-hat theories on a gaming forum how the company is out to get you -
You won 90% of your Saipan solo games pre-rework @El2aZeR . (Whenever a player ended up on the opposite side of your Saipan - he had a 10% chance of winning that game (if he was lucky enough to see you playing a solo game). Fun and engaging...)Cvs may not be a lot weaker, but their influence in Random games post rework seems to be slightly lower.

I'm not sure how well you'll learn basic tactics in the very low tiers. I've not played them a lot but the sense I got is that the games are very quick with a lot of yoloing. At tier 4 and up, the games can still be quick but there's enough time, health and consumables to the ships to learn some tactics/strategic gameplay. The current downside at this moment is that tier 4 is plagued by cvs, which can make dd-life irrelevant, should the cv/s focus in on you. Not sure about Campbeltown. Stats says she's fine. I only have 7 unmemorable games in her. You wouldn't go wrong with silver dds like US Wickes, German G-101 or perhaps the most potent tier 3 dd - the PA Phra Ruang. (Unless balance changes has happened since I've played them)

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
loppantorkel replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Searching for connections and patterns in past events is bit different from predicting the future in a 1/1000 chance scenarios. Do it consistently in an absolutely random setting and we have bigger issue than a rigged MM. All hypothetically ofc. I'll leave it at this. -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
loppantorkel replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
That's one way of doing it. For getting something conclusive. Which no one has done yet and probably won't do either. Can you tell me the odds of a random player coming to the forum within the coming week, making a thread about how MM screws him over and that he lost the last 10 games or so? 50-100% range? Can you tell me what if Floofz proclaimed he's getting screwed by the MM and that he will do a 10 game session where he will record each match-up to show he's given the bad team every single time - what would the odds be of Floofz really getting into the worse team each of the 10 games? If another player after Floofz did the same thing with the same result? What would the odds be? I don't believe that any player would succeed in the above, but if they did, it would indicate something rather than prove anything. -
Why WoWS creates toxic players and fix
loppantorkel replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
Your winrate is an indication of your ability to play the game well. If you win only 40% of the Random battles you enter, you're a big liability for your team and have likely still several basic aspects to learn. If you enter high tier battles or Ranked battles, you can expect your team mates to be rather miffed about you being on their team. -

No it doesn't matter. Not to any of our knowledge at least. -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
loppantorkel replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it would. If done as I wrote, it would be more valuable info than the post a random guy complaining about a 10 game losing streak. If the data brought would be odd, another player could try the same. If the data from many players was to be odd, you'd have some odd data... Not that I think you'd end up with it, but it would still be more interesting than the random guy with a losing streak. -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
loppantorkel replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Well, it's better than nothing. If you feel you get bad match-ups, you could post it here and show the following series of match-ups. Just as long as you post the start and do a live series of it, rather than posting a review of a bad streak after it's done, I think it would be interesting and hold a bit more water than some other arguments/theories. -

I think there are some mods like XVM or similar where you can see the WR of each player. If you really want to delve deeper into this, you might have to install one of these, if it's kosher by WG ofc.
