How to french DD? - Builds and Playstyle
loppantorkel replied to HMS_Kilinowski's topic in Destroyers
Usually not a fan of Radiolocation, but I picked it for Kleber and it's decent so far. Not sure how it holds up, but being able to know where the enemy spotter is - which is outspotting you - is pretty valuable.- 36 replies

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance

Preferential MM for new players confirmed... I knew it -
And once again, the Steam-player gets the better deal...

Regional pricing as a bonus though -
You want WG to manipulate the MM to distribute players between the team so the skill of the teams are similar? To help the potatoes to better teams and make the unicums face other unicums more regularly? Wouldn't that be helping the bad players through the ranks and make it tougher for the better players to rank out? In a Ranked mode where the ultimate price is at the end, shouldn't the preconditions be equal for all and those who show most skill are rewarded by ranking out most quickly? If you're not enjoying Ranked, maybe do the other modes instead. It's the same complaints all seasons.

Hey, I'm not not close to getting into this grind. Ok, nice. Seems like a good option. Doing 90% of the grind and getting visual feedback on the construction and the just have it ripped from you just seems a bit too much. Even WG must know this. I think it's a great idea to have the construction in harbour, but I wonder if not doing it at tier 8 or possibly 9 would've been smarter. Grinding a tier 10 ship during the holidays will generate bad feelings no matter what. You know the grind will be unlike anything before and the visual aspects just adds to it.
-
Well, they could make it an option to let the unfinished ship remain and perhaps make some rate of 50000 coal for each 10% remaining part to finish it. It could even be spaced out so that those finishing the grind 100% get a few months of exclusivity.
-
Yea, New Orleans vs Musashis doesn't work as well as one would have hoped. ..and Kitakaze just craps on every possible dd under her. I have to agree to some extent that tier 7 seems to be the new crap tier to avoid now.
-
I haven't followed this at all, but is there a big possibility that a large amount of players will end up with a visually >80% built Puerto Rico in their harbour that is removed at the end if the deadline is not met? It's a pretty good idea to increase the psychological investment of the playerbase, but unless WG leaves the nearly built ships in the harbour for some later finishing investments, I can see some backlash coming too.
-
Ignoring it with all my heart. The investment in time and the mental investment would be far too great for a reward that really means very little to me. I've done some mid-tier 8 grinds and it's really not worth it for me. Good luck to them who dives in!

Fundamentally flawed mechanics of the game
loppantorkel replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
Yea, I can't say I know that much about the cvs besides the experience in battle, and it feels off, fundamentally. I can see a point in WG wanting cvs to be played more actively, moving around and perhaps even pushing in to gain an advantage, but now we're at a point where cv - if the cv player is decent-good actually can take down many ships even one-on-one, within spotting range. What WG achieves is that cvs mostly don't die and one team doesn't get cv advantage from mid game, unless the screw up totally. I hope something comes from the upcoming 1 vs 1 Ranked, where this issue might be shown more specifically. -

3. The survivability of cvs probably could be dropped somewhat. I can't say I'm sure about how much, but from my own experience, I get a lot of overpens, shatters or bounces when I 'feel' (in my own subjective way) I should be rewarded with more damage. Cvs, as they are played now are supposed to not be spotted, they can deal out damage without any risk. If they are caught off guard, and especially broadside, I kind of 'feel' they should be punished more reliably. Now it's the occasional citadel when close, but plenty of overpens, and when angled they can survive a long time if you're chasing without much support, even as cruiser. In short: Cv should be punished more reliably and faster if they are caught in a bad position, not only if you got torps, but by lower calibre too. -
What the error in Jingles bonuscode(s) yesterday painfully showed
loppantorkel replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
Is the game perhaps more enjoyable by just playing for the entertainment value..? I know there are many issues with the game, but if it's become a pure grind and an effort to get things/reach specific goals while not enjoying it, it's sort of a lost cause anyway and maybe time for a break. I wouldn't mind a bone thrown at me, but in my case, it wouldn't change much for the positive either. Otoh, I'm not WG's target audience either I suspect, so carry on I guess -
...yea, and still I'd take Kitakaze ahead of Harugumo given a choice of dd for a tier 10 game. I think the Haru clumsiness is decent trade-off for its strengths. Kita on the other hand could be in for a slight nerf in a year or two...

Simple question but aside from those games where you through some great RNG or MM get multiple citadels, get 200k damage or carries the team the last second to a win - what type of games, ships and aspects of the game draw you in and still enjoy? What aspects detract from this enjoyment? The ships I enjoy most at the moment are New Orleans + occasional high tier dds, mostly shima nowadays. Cvs don't bother me as much as before. They detract from the dd games somewhat due to their spotting, but usually they're not the issue they used to be. They do force a more campy game though and probably makes the meta a bit worse as a result. Why I enjoy these ships and the New Orleans specifically is because it's a clean ship, pretty similar to the shima. No gimmicks. I don't need to no much about armour schemes or specific features. In NO I've got HE and excellent AP, good manouverability and good concealment which makes for game of positioning and local tactics. Shima mostly torps, great concealment, same basics in positioning, supporting with spotting and occasional great damage games when in a lucky spot. Pretty simple ships both in terms of gameplay and there's no need to camp, bowtank, sit in smoke, etc. Just sail around and pay attention. Detractors: As most players here, I too get frustrated by the competence of the teammates some games. In mid tier games it can be somewhat expected but in high tiers, there probably should be some sort of soft check. Honestly not sure if bots are employed, either by WG or the playerbase. Imbalance of ships: Some ships - like the Smolensk and to a lesser degree the Kremlin - hurt the game by just being broken or not well balanced. Smolensk in particular changes the meta of the games that include it, for the worse. It shouldn't have been released in this state and it shouldn't continue to be sold in this state. It's still a good game, but I try to pay more attention to what I enjoy about it. It's a game after all and should only be played for enjoyment.

Broken ships, the fault is on BB's
loppantorkel replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about that. A bit too much generalisation imo. There's some value in tank builds, pushing in and making half the enemy team present itself, any harugumo or mino smoke up and start their spam, while not dying to it. This works in random games, or used to at least. Now I'd not attempt it. Not because misplays don't happen but because of a changed meta. -
I suspect Harugumo to be a good contender.

Just to make things clear... Your relying your argument and conclusion 'of his point being completely moot' on the enemy not misplaying.. Huh, I never knew you held the general playerbase in such high regard -

loppantorkel replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
Do you really consider all these ships as broken? I only see Smolensk as an apparent issue in this group, the rest have some extreme strengths, but they're also weak in some areas, punishable and there are enough ways to counter them to not consider them broken. If stats show any of them to be too strong, I'd be fine in seeing a nerf to any of them, but meeting them in battle - I don't see them as meta-breaking to any degree, in contrast to what Smolensk brings to the game. -
ST - Aircraft carrier detection mechanics in Clan Battles.
loppantorkel replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
If possible - could you try removing the 'planes detected' notification for the cv player when a dd is spotting the planes? It would probably go a long way in helping the dd players stay undetected. -

loppantorkel replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
Most of this is related to the CV issue, but I agree on torps and perhaps cruiser heal earlier. Instead of reducing torp damage on cruiser - give the built in Vigilance for all cruisers. Buff cruiser AA, sure. Consider making DD still potentially spotted from CV planes - but: DDs, while unspotted, should not notify the CV player that the planes are detected. This would make DDs much tougher to find. (unless I've got something wrong) Increase flood damage on BBs Nerf Kremlin and Smolensk Good? -

loppantorkel replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
I can't say whose point I'm making. I brought up a specific point that I feel is valid. OP states CVs as an introduced anti BB measurement : Since I'm no CV player and lately not much of a bb player either, I don't know the CV-BB effectiveness very well, only that CVs directly and indirectly reduces the effectiveness of the ships relying on concealment. This is in the end mainly a problem related to CV and the spotting mechanic. It would probably be easier to change this mechanic than to rebalance all classes. I don't see much consistency in the arguments in this thread. -

loppantorkel replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
I've got a few complaints about the game too, but when I want something changed I try point to specific things. It helps in arguments and counterarguments. Making dds and cruisers more noob friendly? Sure, if their 'swing potential' is nerfed to bb level, I suppose. Khaba, Zao, Hindenburg maybe? Smolensk certainly, but it has decent 'swing potential' too. I'll give you this: CVs messes up the balance, they give bbs more and better targets, increases bb survivability and their potential in games. That's an issue that stems from CV spotting which throws the old balance out. Fix that and I don't see bbs as OP to any degree --- specific complaint in small format. ....and no I'm not a bb main. -
Kita is the preferred ship imo. Should be kept regardless of if you decide to get Haru.
