Does WG ever release any info about the intended purpose of the new lines? or is it always settled in Random games where people make use of the ships however they want..

The sad thing about this is that the smaller ships will suffer worse than the larger by this. Stray torps or torps aimed for ships further back that can be practically unavoidable for a dd passing by. Deep water torps have some advantage in terms of gameplay.

They look sort of bad, not sure what they're excelling at or what their purpose is. Maybe the torp speed sort of 'over matches' the hydro that many ships have to avoid torp damage. If one could disregard cv for awhile, maybe flank and torp the safe positions and smokes where hydro cruisers sit?

Sooo... I've had an AA captain and AA Gearing since some time now, I think it was an attempt for an earlier Ranked season, and given the current Ranked meta I thought I'd try it again. I remember being intensely focused one earlier Ranked battle and managing to kill 33 planes or so, still losing ofc, but it was pretty good AA ship. This game, using Def AA, Massive AA Fire, AA modules, etc, I managed to down 7 planes while being focused the majority of the 10 min battle duration. Is there any point to bringing any AA to dds? If the enemy cv is decent and wants you dead, all you can do is take some time from his game, but I don't see much point in trying to kill planes. Should all, or next to, dds focus on their other strengths and just hope there's no cv or that he doesn't care about you? I might be late to this realisation, but I haven't dabbled in this much lately. It used to have some value. Edit: I see I caused 26K damage to aircraft, but I'm not sure about how good that is. Still felt like a non-factor.

It was the same with Missouri. Broken ships get pulled. I didn't get the Missouri and I'll leave Smolensk too. I'd just feel dirty playing them. No regrets about it. Not sure what to spend the coal on though. The Thunderer seems decent, but not something I really want, and neither of the Steel ships look very appetizing either... I kind of hope they'll release a Swedish ship at some point. -

In ordinary Random games, I agree, the current meta is usually okay for dd players, still enjoyable. It does change the game for the dd players though which makes the game more campy. You can't yolo into caps at high tiers regardless, but if the cv player is good, you just need to play it a lot more carefully in dds compared to games with no cvs, and if you're unlucky you can be pretty much a non-factor in some games. The issue becomes more apparent in Ranked battles. Less ships, the influence of cvs grow, and dds usually have it a lot tougher. A lot more so as skill increases a bit in Ranked. I assume this goes for CBs too. I don't see that this change would break Random games, just allow dds to play their objectives and allow them a bit more freedom. In Ranked and possibly CBs, dd gameplay would probably still be very restrictive but a just slightly easier. -

Found it, testing for CBs.. It's not that I wouldn't mind hearing how this would work out, but the change above seems to be more 'extensive' than the one proposed here. -

Aren't they testing the idea of having dds only visible on the minimap by other ships, when spotted by airplanes...? or was that subs, I can't remember where I saw that or if I misremember something. This indication removal, even if a compromise, wouldn't ruin anything and would probably not by that difficult to implement. -

It would buff dds in cv games only. When cvs are present, particularly in Ranked games and when the cv player is competent, I'd say cvs are much more valuable than the dd player. The balance between the 4 classes isn't there at this moment, imo. No class hard counters another class as much as cvs counter dds, and you already got cruisers as normal class counter for dds. -

Yes, no immunity, just big nerf to cvs ability to disrupt the ordinary dd gameplay. As it is now, all dds can do is try avoid being spotted and do the best of a pretty bad situation. Some games will be just fine, but if the cv-player is good, the dd-player's influence in the battle is pretty much demoted to taking up the cv-player's time. The cv-player can do this at pretty much zero risk, especially if it's in Ranked battle where there are fewer ships and likely no more than 1-2 dds. I'm not saying this should be the only change, as Yedwy suggested, it might need other adjustments as well, but the goal would be to minimize the change in gameplay for dds depending on if you end up in a cv battle or not. -

That would probably be adjusted in the process too. I wouldn't change it from the start though. It would be more interesting to see how this change would affect the overall gameplay. Would cvs need to be more active in controlling their ships for example? Staying behind the main fleet, instead of moving behind a rock or staying at the border? It's not like it's easy to kill a cv in a dd unless taken by total surprise behind a rock. Guns do little damage and torps can be avoided to some degree and the reload is long. If the cv is solo vs a non-cv at close range, I kind of want the non-cv to have the advantage too. It seems logical from a gameplay perspective. -
Depends on if he has a coupon left. I think mine expires around Christmas and might get one of the ships, likely a coal ship.

If a shima or asashio goes unspotted and around the border and half way through the game happens to spot the enemy cv, the cv-player gets an notification that his ship is detected. If this would happen, the cv player might be, God forbid, at a disadvantage and even vulnerable If a shima or asashio attempt being effective the first half of the battle, team mates should be able to spot torps and there could be an indication on where they might be. -
Georgia is fun, somewhat situational, but fun. If you can contain the urge to push flanks too early, you'll do better than me in it. I'd recommend it. I haven't played Massa though.

Well, it's not available for Ranked this season. I looked over my dds and found nothing good for this season. Shima would be very vulnerable, Daring could work but is so slow, Gearing and YY may be decent options as far as dds go, due to versatility, Harugumo seems very vulnerable in cv games, Kleber might work some games, others not. 4 battles: 3 losses and 1 win in two Gearing games and 2 Kleber games. 2 cv games. Minimal contribution to the outcome of the battle from me. ...and I'm done this Ranked.

Yea, it's ridiculous if you think about it. Otoh, it's a F2P game that needs funding somehow. I pay for something now and then just for the sake of it. Not ever going to be a whale, but I think it's fair to pay something for most entertainment you get on a regular basis. -
Yea, but I could go further and say that speed boost is a better option than Def AA, just to make you avoid being spotted. Not sure if that's true though.
