  1. Isn't it just a calibre and a smoke check? Not saying it's easy and I think they want the rules as simple as possible, but it might be a nice compromise.
  2. I'd rather see a hybrid penalty - Benson shoots from smoke -> Detected 7km or so for 3-4s; Kutusov -> detected 8km for 5-6s; large calibre -> 10km for 8-9s. ..or similar.
  3. Well it's not like they've said anything. It has been tested and might already be scrapped.
  4. Maybe some people are getting too old for changes to what they feel comfortable with
  5. Thing is, it's nice if one can discuss the merit of a certain idea without having to argue against other issues in the game. I agree - too many bbs is a problem. Does that make the smoke-radar meta a great game mechanic? Could it be improved? Is it possible to try it? Would trying it break the game?
  6. That's another issue. There can be more than one issues in a single game.
  7. This is similar to the removal of stealth firing. I don't see it as a big issue. Maybe a slight buff to some if needed. Sounds like the whole topic might be out of date though.
  8. If WG can't buff RN cruisers in a good way, they could just make them a special exception. Not that difficult..
  9. That comment was a reply for the current situation. ..but yea, if WG would implement this kind of smoke, you'd have to use the smoke screens differently, perhaps stay behind the smoke instead of in it, cover the flanks and change plane spottning? Lots of ifs. I'd wait, try it out and see. I still think the game is fine despite the massive buff to cruisers when they implemented IFHE, RPF to help dd-hunters, etc...
  10. Could hunt dds still, smoke others and find IJD dds, although, I kind of agree. BBs wreck Gearings too easily. I'd rather play Fletcher nowadays.
  11. The change isn't needed, I agree, but the whole smoke - radar thing has become rather dominant and while the game isn't bad at the moment, I think having more movement and encouraging movement is preferable. It's too often a Gearing pops smoke and sits firing at some distant enemy. Making this change probably won't make much difference in the cooperative aspect, but maybe it will increase movement, and perhaps bbs won't be as afraid to move in on smoke. I expect they'll change RN cruiser line somewhat, so I'm not sure why my lack of games in it would matter. Why would anyone believe WG would nerf the RN cruiser line to the ground? Ships are generally pretty well balanced. Except cvs that is, but those are a different matter.
  12. Yea, but these are minor issues that can be solved.
  13. Is it possible to nerf the effect of spotting planes, if they prove to negate some strategic effects of smoke screens? They could try the idea of a smaller bloom when shooting from smoke too. If that seems better...
  14. Easily countered by team play
  15. Not really. Point was that they change a mechanic to improve they game and buff/nerf ships that need it. Not compensate for the sake of compensation. It's a great way to balance OP premiums. It seems to perform well enough according to stats.
  16. Which ships need compensation? Stealth fire removal is still a good thing. CVs are a whole other thing. That's not an easy thing to solve. Trying to change smoke isn't a sledgehammer solution. We'll see if they try it, and see if it breaks the game..
  17. The problem is that people mix nerfing/buffing of classes, direct or indirect, with changes in game mechanics to make the game better. Change the smoke if WG believes the gameplay will improve and nerf/buff the ships afterwards. This isn't that difficult to change though.. if RN cruisers are heavily nerfed, they'll get a buff in some other area. Most ships are fairly balanced and those that aren't will be.
  18. So, it was tested some weeks ago on a test server and that's all we know..?
  19. Now, a dd can smoke the radar cruiser and rest of the team guns down the radared ship.. team play there too. It won't break the game, it won't break the cooperative aspect of the game.
  20. Me too, but that's not impossible to fix.
  21. So it's not about gameplay, but about the principle of who has the most right to the smoke? Trying this out is good for the game. If it breaks the game, I'm sure it will be possible to remove it just like every other gamebreaking feature WG has implemented and people has gotten way too excited about.
  22. Well, aren't you full of yourself.. great arguments... I'm sure you'll continue playing, whining about every change WG do.
  23. Maybe it's time to leave anyway if a friendly Yamato comes up beside him..?
  24. The smoke heavy meta is caused by BB dominance (or overpopulation), who would have thought? Guess where this quote comes from? Meh.. you eliminate the smoke heavy meta by killing smoke too
