Took me a bit of time to notice, but I agree as well. -
imo USN and RN CVs need TA as their torps are slower than Japanese torps (I believe IJN ones do like 40kts from tier 4). And tbh, using Improved Engines increases your speed, which is not entirely great as you need to slow down to get your attacks in while also being able to turn quicker. Using Improved engines on IJN planes is also a waste as those planes go extremely fast (for their tier) anyways. On Lexi or Midway, TA is viable as stock speed is around 35kts. As far as RN CVs go, I have not really looked into them, but I would expect TA to be useful there as well. Honestly though, IE is not entirely useless, I just see it as a waste on my Japanese planes when they already go faster than Lexi and Implacable ones. (Actually, I need to check my build. I think I use IE instead of TA cuz apparantly TA increases the torp arming distance aswell not sure about it though.)
-
Also, if you're just starting out, I would like to add on a bit (as far as I've played anyways). For a 10 point captain you should focus on getting - 1) Air Supremacy (staple of every CV), 2) Torpedo Acceleration (Also staple of every CV), 3) Aircraft Armour (MUST HAVE), 4) Sight Stabilization (Also a must have. CE is lesser important) However, if you have a 19 point commander, it would probably look something like this for IJN CVs - IJN CVs are REALLY Restricted in the sense that they have AP bombs instead of HE ones. So they really have to stick to that type of commander setup. Also, as IJN Planes have the least HP of the lot, they really need survivability expert as the planes just dont survive at times. CE Benefits Haku TBs as they can get down to 6.4km detect with 8km torps. For USN CVs, you have two options. To follow the generic IJN Route, with the only change being from CE to Radio Location (Until it gets removed from CVs) to bully DDs, or go for the "I love watching the world burn" build (You can also choose Radio Location here for max hurting of DDs ) USN CVs are imo the most flexible as they have much better HP from their IJN Counterparts while also carrying the strongest HE Bombs from tier 8. You can absolutely delete DDs with them. The rockets are also very damn good if you choose the Tiny Tims as they can penetrate upto 33mm of armour. For the upcoming RN CVs, I would probably recommend the "I love watching the world burn" build. RN CVs currently have planes with the highest HP in the game but with a drawback of having smaller squadrons. So unless you really want to ruin someone's day by going with the generic IJN CV build, I would recommend going for all out fire damage as their bombs have a ton of potential. As far as Upgrades go, build your CV according to national trait. For IJN - best to go with Attack Aircraft attack time (cuz 5s is a bit too little when you have only them to rely on imo) For USN - Go with Torpedo bomber attack time if you wish (Depends on your playstyle). For RN - Go with TB attack time (also changeable according to playstyle) Basically for choosing upgrades, anything that benefits your planes is a must have. CVs have good AA so unless you have money to spare, AA upgrades should be a last priority. You should also take the upgrade which increase the amount of planes on deck cuz that is a REALLY BIG lifesaver. (What every CV must have) -Air groups Mod. 1 -Flight Control Mod.1 -Concealment system Mod.1 -Air Groups Mod. 2

But the person you downvote is also entitled to ask why you disagree with him. As far as I've read, you seem to be talking about how bad the rework is. Well time to open up a bit because for some it's not that bad. And you can't downvote them just because your thoughts are negative. Just leave them be if you do disagree with them. On the contrary, you can always offer ideas (and not bring back RTS cuz WG will never do that sadly) to better the current gameplay.
-
Now, I sound a bit "In" for this retarded rework mostly cuz right now, it's what CVs have become (and really, I love my CVs a ton. Straight when I used to play Houshou or nerfed Zuihou against AS Bogues). Unfortunately, WG has catered to the noobs right AFTER release which is a sad testament to the class. (But really, I just wanna see my Hiryuu back in port aswell ) What has WG done for CVs? 1) Aesthetics. They have given CV players a "feel" of how pilots actually fly in, animated planes really nicely and modelled them in a decent way. (Still bugs me that some carry rockets behind the prop) 2) Planes have HP bars. It's not a random RNG fest to shoot down planes now. 3) Multiple armament per plane. Some carry two torps, some carry a hundred bombs. It''s good imo. 4) Questionable "Infinite" hangar. 5) Made AA even more so retarded. 6) Dumbed down the skill, i.e - Fighters, to the level of a consumable. 7) Made CVs a damage farming fiesta rather than their historical support role. 8) Toned down the damage farming and "DoT" farming aspect of CVs so much it killed the meaning of the rework quite a bit. For one, I have to work more than a DD player to deal 50k damage. Not to mention, I get punished harder here if I lose my planes than in RTS. (And the fun fact, I cant even avoid losing those planes!) 9) Dumbed down the gameplay to the point where your SHIP is literally controlled by a BOT. When compared to RTS, CVs have changed from "Literally the one thing your team depends on" to "The floating trashcan/XP Pinata" If I want to support my team, I (and them) have to rely on a useless consumable which stays around, flying in a tiny circle for a minute, which the enemy can dodge. If I want to sink a ship, I should fly out my squadron a minimum of three times to actually get him down. It's not funny anymore. We had our laughs, we complained, but now its gone over the top. If I want to live in a CV, I either have to delay my sinking by sailing to the edge of a map like a "tRuE cV pLaYeR" or rely on my team. Both of which are NEVER going to happen. I'm sorry but, if a Battleship can DELETE a cruiser in one volley, why in the world can't I, as a CV player, deal even half damage to the cruiser? I do my part well, dodge the flak as you want me, stand still while aiming as you force me, and then only see my torpedoes do 3k per hit and NOT EVEN GET A FLOODING! And when I look up, I see, "Oh, they got shot down by AA while trying to escape" which means I cant even fly back out with the squadron because Im playing like you are forcing me to. I.E - LITERALLY Fly out all planes on my deck because I have unlimited planes! I'll be honest, the rework looked fun on release, it just needed a few number changes on some ships, and literally everything would be fine, but you HAD to listen to the tens of thousands of BB mains complaining how they cant survive a flooding because they already damage conned one fire. You destroyed Midway's torp damage output, destroyed IJN TBs which were the gimmick of the IJN CVs, destroyed Rockets for IJN CVs cuz they cant rely on DBs to hit a DD. And right now i'm asking, What's next? Target RN CVs? cuz they seem bloody darn OP, literally everything IJN and USN CVs need! This was a rant, yes I am aware, but sadly WG will never listen to us CV players. It just kills me, with the fact that one class that actually was everything in the world is getting such a sad treatment here. I do not dislike the action gameplay as I feel it adds more iimmersion atleast to an extent. What I dislike is their choice of balance decisions which, might I add, were formed due to the complaints of OTHER players. As the gameplay goes, literally any ship has carry potential. But they have dumbed down CVs SO MUCH that "Carrying" a game is just gonna end badly for you no matter what tier you play.
-
I'm still optimistic, mostly cuz I love many CVs This CV rework is aimed to improve Battleship players life. Now you can't get blapped anymore, you have to take DoT Damage (Which was also nerfed surprise!). And now with 0.8.1 on the way bringing flood nerfs, you just gotta ask something....is 2019 the year of the BBs? This hotfix, granted I have not been able to play, is probably the biggest shitstorm among CV players after Graf Zeppelin. And all I have done is just see what actually competitive CV players talk about. I don't expect my words to be taken seriously as I still am yet to play my Shoukaku in the new environment, but from what I understand is - 1) F-Key has been nerfed (I actually like this cuz I abused it a lot with Shoukaku pre hotfix) 2) Hakuryuu has been nerfed (Quite hard too I hear) 3) The IJN Torpedo Bomber gimmick has been thrown out of the window (Being able to aim properly while turning the planes during attack and prepping for attack) 4) IJN torps have been nerfed (RIP Flooding and speed) 5) Tier 8 TT CVs now have 9 rocket planes (Buff for Lexi, Nerf for Shoukaku) 6) AA is cancer (Constant DPS has more effectiveness now) 7) Tier 6/7 ships suck in flak damage (Because of the "Taking away" of 50% of the damage for Constant DPS) So in light of these changes, CVs, though they have infinite hangar reserves, are more useless than an emptied out RTS CV if you lose your planes constantly due to an uptier (Tier 6 and 8 CVs). And you can't even avoid losing planes because either attacking or Pressing F Pay respects lol means the planes go back. However, to go back they need to fly up into the clouds to be safe, but unfortunately it takes around 7s for that which means your planes become target practice for the AA. I'm fine with F-key nerfs. I'm fine hearing about TB nerfs, I'm fine hearing about Rocket plane nerfs. But I'm NOT AT ALL fine with you BUFFING AA to an extent where you might aswell attack only DDs in a no DD game rather the actual enemy ships. The fact that the F-key nerf comes WITH the AA buff is what makes it more so retarded. Either nerf AA or bring back the true effectiveness of F-key. This CV rework was meant to be a "Game changer" for the class, bring new players, a new style. It was meant to DoT out enemy ships, but if you're gonna nerf the MAIN ASPECT which is DoT by reducing the flood chance, then why make it worse by letting the planes fall while on escape?! WG had their chances. All they needed to do was reduce the flood and burn times from CV torps and bombs, nerf Rocket damage a bit, maybe introduce the F-key nerf and CVs would be fine. But do we really need this? Do we need an all round flood nerf which, mind you, affects Japanese Torp boats the MOST? Do we need a retarded AA buff which is not even well thought out? Well whatever WG wants to do, it's best they do it with the consent of actual CV players rather than all other classes. For now, what else to do but wait. CVs will get a buff once they realise the population drops again. Everything is still in beta till 0.8.2, Least to do is hope now. sorry for that shitty rant
-
Im just gonna remain neutral on the rework. As it is, theyre releasing something which hasnt culminated from our feedback, yet they keep asking for it. Just hope that with 0.81 and 0.8.2 they manage to balance them properly, along with maybe making AA an actual thing to be afraid of. Also, I hope they release alternate line CVs as actual support focussed ones. But oh well, heres to the end of the RTS CVs, the one which was everything of the team. Also, I wonder how hard it is now to get Dev strikes now.

For one thing I am quite happy with this removal (Not the lack of Ship control ofc, that sucks) Squadron numbers seemed to always decide the match. Heck, it was always based on a commander skill, where basically any one who had the "Air Supremacy" skill, would do a bit better than one who doesnt due to more planes in the sky. With the rework, WG has ideally equalised everything for IJN and USN CVs with the "Tier limitation". No more is it based on a skill, rather the tier. (Ofc, Midway torp bombers carry two torps instead of Haku's one which means smaller squads for them but you get the point for lower tiers)
-
I have read many replies and not all are negative. However, you simply give a negative reaction without stating YOUR problem. As far as it goes, many here are pretty neutral on this rework, I may be positive for the rework but I’m not denying the flaws. If you’ve played a game in a CV currently you would know there are problems. The new rework definitely throws away some old aspects while just focusing on a few like damage dealing and continuous spotting.
-
@antean My dude, mind ya tell me what’s so negative in this rework for you? You seem to be very negative in how you react.

Tanaka reducing salt content?! -
Yeah well, It’s just if the T10 CV decides to defend his team, he can do so cuz tier 10 fighters are in more numbers to that of tier 8, while if you being in a tier 8 try to stop him, you’re better off trying to shoot a fly with a pistol. tbh, US CVs definitely win from this rework. Japanese carriers lose that good torp bombers for AP bombs which, sure are good and all.....but are underwhelming due to them being around 250kg to 800kg bombs while Americans seem to have those really good 1000lb bombs that too carrying something like 2 per plane. I mean, I used Japanese CVs more so on the test just because I love them on live, but...with the rework, they seem pretty meh. Sure Ryuujou is quite good considering her torps are actually decent. But I find the others pretty meh. However, playing Lexi, it seemed rather easy to deal damage, literally 1st game dealing 100k+. But to be honest, it’s easier to deal damage now with aiming, but you really need to get used to your armaments. I for one couldn’t play much so it was a bit hard for me, nonetheless the rework in my terms seems somewhat okay considering they are gonna rework AA. Also, on the TST server it was only bots, I could only imagine the AA being more stronger with the AA builds and them buffing catapult fighters hopefully.

Aircraft Carrier Beta Round 3 - Feedback Thread
aidenthedestroyer replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
So I'm a bit late to this but oh well. What's good? -The gameplay seems rather smooth, the planes movements and all seems pretty okay to me, how they attack and turn, its all well made. -2 vs 2 CV for tier 8 and 10 imo, adds a bit more feel to the battle itself as battles dont finish in 10 minutes anymore. Now with more CVs, battles are more longer and somewhat "decisive". -Overall feel for CVs. Now it feels very rewarding to hit those torps or bombs just because you aim for yourself and control your planes. Imo, it feels good as in the current CVs, you cant generally be "IN" the mix of things, now you have to maneuver your planes, time attacks well, etc. etc. -The overall look of the planes and AA is better now, even while playing on a potato pc. -Catapult fighters concept is good, but needs more tuning to it. As what's being tested, you launch a designated "squadron" of fighters from the catapults, so now running the fighter consumable is more viable. However, the fact that they only run for 30s is what bugs me. Make it 1 min or so as waiting for 1 min 30 to get the consumable back to run the planes for only 30s seems pretty underwhelming. Also, increasing the range on how they circle the ship to....say 5km, would improve their effectiveness. What's bad? -As far as it goes, the 2 vs 2 CV thing still needs a lot of work. With the removal of odd tier CVs, being uptiered in a CV HURTS like anything now. So you could be playing the Shoukaku and suddenly get paired with a Midway and going against another Midway and Lexington combo, which sucks as Tier 8 CVs are SO MUCH weaker to tier 10 ones. I mean, the fighters you launch are MUCH lesser than their entire squadron size, so it seems very one sided almost. Which is why, its best to bring back odd tier CV just for the sake of MM. I would rather meet a tier 9 than tier 10 CV in my Shoukaku, likewise meeting a Hiryuu instead of a Shoukaku in my Ryuujou. -Damage dealing and actually sinking ships. The main point of this rework was to actually reduce the whole dominance of CVs and, it has been done. However, now dealing damage seems a bit tougher, nevermind sinking ships. If anything, to get a kraken with the new CVs becomes MUCH more tougher than what it is now. Ofcourse, the best way is to stack DoT effects and whatnot, but you need to actually KNOW your armament a whole lot before you can even break 200k damage at tier 10. -Lack of CV vs CV This is something which kind of wierds me out. As far as it goes, your fighters seem pretty USELESS now as they only run for something like 2 minutes in one tiny circle on one tiny spot of a gigantic map. 3km radius is not a good thing at all. I can pop my fighters in the middle of the cap and I still wont be supporting my team just because any CV player will fly around my fighters to attack the DDs. And even if I were to pop it on a DD, the Destroyer player will not just sit in one place just to have fighter cover. What has to be done, make them circle the ship they were dropped on to a range of like 4-5km, atleast then there is some instance of team support. Current CVs are more all round in terms of support, but newer CVs just become a damage farm fiesta which isnt the way it should go. It seems way too boring. Not to mention, "If this CV rework goes good we might see them in competitive" With the current look at it? NEVER. Competitive requires strategy! not damage farming! Current CVs work BEST in competitive just because the skill of a player in how he plays his fighters is 100x more important than being on point with a few bombs drops and torpedo hits! -Hakuryuu vs Midway and Houshou vs Langley At tier 10, I can easily say the Midway is far better than the Hakuryuu. Haku's torps seem rather bad even though she has good AP bombs. But when you look at Midway, you have a more all roudned CV with good torps, really good bombs and good rockets, while the Haku has good rockets and bombs. Sure they can citadel a Montana, but when you deal around 9-10k per bomb, its not a lot when compared to the likes of 20k per attack of the USN DBs At tier 4, Houshou is just TERRIBLE vs the Langley. Langley has those really good HE Bombs while Houshou gets stuck with the AP Bombs. AND NO TORP BOMBERS! This is not a good way to go AT ALL. Especially since there are no ODD tier CVs, how will players learn to control torpedo bombers? at tier 6? VERY bad design just because tier 6 CVs meet Tier 8 CVs as I mentioned above. No player can learn like this! As far as I would recommend, keep rockets and Dive bombers at 6 per squad. However, add torpedo bombers for both ships at 4 per squad. And give Houshou HE bombs PLEASE. -
I've played the Reworked CVs and, Ill say this at the very least. It's good. Don't get me wrong im still pretty angry at the removal of odd tier CVs cuz, Lexi vs Midway is not [edited]fun. But gameplay wise, it adds something Ive never really felt much when playing CVs, thats the IMMERSION. Like, when playing current CVs, you dont get that rush when your planes are under heavy AA fire than the new version, which is a good change. CVs needed to feel a bit more active in plane control which I absolutely like. Everything is pretty beautiful even playing on a potato PC. Now whats wrong? Removal of odd tier CVs. I like that there are now 2 CVs per game, but the fact that one tier is gone inbetween each tier, it means a lot. Now sure Tier 4 is pretty safe, but Tier 6 CV meeting tier 8 CV is not fun. But what isnt fun is tier 8 meeting tier 10. Like, meeting a tier 9 CV would be somewhat okay, but tier 10 is just......the strength goes WAY too high. Damage and sinking ships. Now sure this is a problem in current CV play but.....now it seems so hard to even break 150k damage in tier 10, atleast by what I see. Though I managed to break 200k with Midway, it was only one game.....that too only 2-3 sunk. Hakuryuu vs Midway With the rework, Midway is still so much better than Hakuryuu. Haku is in such a weird place with her really weird torpedo options and okay AP bombs. Midway however seems to have it all. Accurate rockets, Good torps, Meme worthy HE bombs. Like, you can deal citadel damage with a fire with her HE bombs which is healable sure, but come on.... Houshou vs Langley Houshou suffers from Hakryuu similarly in the bombs. Also, tier 4 CVs dont have fighter consumables nor torp bombers Catapult fighters Now WG has done something nice with the consumable. You now launch a full division of these fighters, like 6 for all tier 10 BBs (Didnt get to play cruisers). But they last only for 30s. What I would suggest for WG is to make it infinite charges cuz infinite hangar so why not, and make them run for 1 min. atleast, cuz waiting like 1min 30 for the cooldown sucks tbh. All in all, still a lot of work for them, but so far, its not too bad.
-
This sort of worries me. When I heard about them actually confirming the second line (And Taihou being Tier X) I was thiking of grinding for her. But upon actually reading this, it seems the line will only come after the rework, goodness knows how long, and by the looks of it, WG will definately not allow us to keep the current Odd tier CVs. So do I actually grind and get Taihou for FXP or do I save up XP to directly get to Haku?

Aircraft Carrier: Changes to Tech Trees, Upgrades and Commander Skills - Discussion Thread
aidenthedestroyer replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
The CV rework for me is a mixed bag of feelings. On the one hand, the gameplay and whole style of CVs and how they can be viewed in battle has shifted a lot. But on the other, It seems more stale and....lack of content....so to say. The new gameplay is not bad, considering now RTS was an age old thing, it can be rather interesting for newer players. RTS also gave a skileld CV player complete dominance over the sky over the other which was a major problem. Not to mention, IJN CVs at tiers 7 and 8 have much superior loadouts to their US Counters (2/2/2 vs 1/1/2) which pretty much made them a lot better and nices to play (Shoukaku and Hiryuu are my best CVs). When compared to playing a Battleship (Which was where the line split from) CVs tended to be really damn challenging to a new players of the older times where you had alt attacks. Now it becomes challenging at tier 6 where you meet terrifying AA and more skilled players, so the new players of CVs were ideally never able to get ahold of how to play, so the whole "Strike focus" seems to reduce that skill level and help a player in aiming. CVs now depend on the team even more so for defense than they used to because this rework essentially turns them into floating airfields as you have infinte planes at your disposal. There are a ton of problems, one of which, as poined out, is the fact that controlling the ship itself is not up to the mark. We get that the planes are the main focus, but the ship herself is equally important, and if under attack by a DD, more often than not you will be taken out before you take her out as most probably the best Anti-DD weapons are the rockets since DDs can easily dodge Bombs and torpedoes. Removal of tier 5,7 and 9 Carriers seems very weird considering those tiers are the tiers where players make the jumps into more competitive tiers, i.e - T6,8,10. It should be accepted that T6,8 and 10 are more so competitive tiers, so ofcourse the skill here tends to higher than that of low tier. Removal of Tier 5,7 and 9 CVs doesnt seem to help in preparing a player for a more skilled environment, as These tiers tend to have very favourable MM allowing a player to not meet stronger opponents, unlike Tier 6 and 8. Tier 7 tends to be a sweet spot in the game as most ships here are very good at what they do, not to mention you can only meet Tier 5 or Tier 9. However, if they make the XP requirements to make the jump from, say tier 6 to tier 8 and tier 8 to tier 10 higher, then it could be fine, or, alternatively make the line "weave" to another of the same tier (Example - Houshou (IV) to Zuihou (IV) to Ryuujou (VI) to Hiryuu (VI) to Shoukaku (VIII) and so on) while keeping XP requirements for same tier ships low. But nonetheless, players skill is always something that should be looked into. Another point is the gameplay which can seem to be repetitive. Start with rockets, then torps, then maybe rockets and bombs....which can start to get boring. -
WG did say they wanted the CV players to be more focused on planes. But imo, just looking at it, it really needs work. But hey, it isnt final just yet. Many problems were there with that. The multiple amount of squadrons in the air gave constant spotting to the team, thus disabling DDs role. And yea, skill ceiling stuff. Too much for noobs. Well, the newer way does seem better as you can imo aim a bit better. But i guess thats cuz youre in the pilots seat so to say. For more fire damage (Works for IJN CVs) This was one of the things to WG. I recall them saying they want CV players to play other ships and not only CVs, so making the gameplay get a bit boring was one of their goals. But hey, WoWP and WoWS in the same game As far as I know, I think AA was still under a bit of testing? Besides, it seems Flak can be the main thing which takes out planes, so ships like Des Moines are still strong. But the AA does look nice. I tried answering in what I know of now. Couldnt get to testing them so yeah....Everything is still in testing and I really hope they change some stuff like CV control, and maybe allow us to understand more about the AA cuz as far as I know the flak is really random while short range AA is always constant.
-
I guess he means it in the fact that he controlled the CV more manually rather than Autopilot (Pre rework CVs)
