A battleship main complaining about destroyers? -
Seriously unbalanced ships - that now needs some balance.

The Mikhail isn't THAT suited for competitive battles. In team battles or clan battles, the only reason people (or at least the people I play with) fields the MK in team is to repel the enemy carrier. The bow on an reverse thing makes even a fully specced North Car potentially vulnerable to a CV attack if not for cruiser support. In most cases, the Atago is fielded instead due to her heal pack that makes her able to bounce back from being hammered. Most of the tier 8 cruisers aren't great for competitive high staked battles. New Orlenes because she's a floating XP chest. Hipper and Prinz because they can't slip into the flanks to work the enemy's broadside in competitive battles. Mogami because her HP pool and armor makes her too vulnerable to being focused. Chapayev because she can't perform her roles as a long range anti-BB artillery piece and short range anti-DD reconnaissance at the same time. Mikhail because if she gets spotted once in her usual role (short range in-smoke fire spamming) she'll get turned into matchwood.- 25 replies

In terms of the Amagi, she is an excellent battleship due to the fact that even one of her salvoes are guarenteed to cripple pretty much any cruiser. She just performs better at hit and run battles and not for the competitive and drawn out way team battles play. Mogami is inferior to the Atago, but she can be made superior or at least different by buffing the turn rate of her turrets. Chapayev is perfectly competitive with the Kuzutov. She trades the smoke for an excellent radar suite and guns that are lethal against cruisers at even high ranges. Tashkent is shafted in ranked, but like the Amagi she appears to be performing perfectly in randoms. New Orleans does suck, mostly because AA on most ships are so good that the idea of an AA specialized ship is quite pointless. Except for two of the ships mentioned here, most ships that aren't used in ranked could perform just as well if not better in randoms. They're not unbalanced as much as they are unsuited for the way that ranked games flows with the static war of attrition. Ultimately we can't balance these for ranked because no matter what randoms will still overwhelmingly be played over ranked battles and so balancing should prioritize randoms over ranked.- 25 replies

The Atago is a ship that is well know for her fragility. Now that I had some games in her however, I found that she seems to be able to bounce BB shells at around the frequency of most other cruisers (minus the Germans obviously). Has she had her armor buffed in any patches leading up to this one? I'm just wondering because she doesn't seem particularly fragile to me.

I think words were insufficient to describe my reaction. They squished my art

Cyclones are a bad system in my eyes. It would be more interesting if night battles reduced the detection range by a coefficient of the ship's detection range but otherwise ships will have the same comparative detection range i.e. battleships will get detected by (most) cruisers before the cruisers themselves are detected unlike in cyclones. I would change mechanics as ships that can't previously stealth torp or stealth fire can now do so while ships with high detection ranges will gain access to the parts of the map which they couldn't before as they'll be focused down before getting there.

What? Why would they...what? Don't people know that tier 8 CVs have the defensive fire cooldown? Those fighters are there for your team, not your ship!
-
I am far more experienced with cruisers and I will have a 15 point captain to put on my Atago from my Ibuki. On the other hand, the Tirpitz is a battleship and the only class I perform statistically better in than battleships are the carriers. I really don't know what to go with, the problem is.
-
I'm actually looking to purchase a tier 8 premium, specifically for this season. Which one do you think I should go for between the Tirpitz or the Atago?
-
I'd like to buy the Kamikaze (non 'R') too!

Not OP enough! Give Kamikaze the F3s! -
Being able to replay something like Pearl Harbor or Midway against an overwhelming force of AI units seems like it'll be great fun, especially if the mission modes are formed around performing a certain task well. I think that PvE mission systems could work great if they implement a one time reward system. If you fail then you can try again and you get the paltry XP and credits from it like a regular PvE match. The first time you beat a mission however you get a large reward (e.g. 1m credits, flags, camouflage, and consumables) and you can replay it later with the same lower rewards. Maybe the mission can reset every month or something. I think a lot can be done with the game mode, especially if set up like a dungeon raid.

I got a 133k+ damage game in my Saipan today with 25 plane kills as well as around 80k in spotting damage and 170k in potential damage (Saipan has a Baltimore hull, might as well so the USN cruiser thing) and I barely broke 150k in credit profits. It's bad for DDs as well, especially for ships like the Fubuki. You might get a cheaper repair over a larger period of games, but with so much less credits being earned I wonder why I should even really bother playing well sometimes. The Izumo wasn't much better either, got 2000 in XP and still only made 50k in profits. If I had that XP result in something like an Ibuki before the patch I can expect to break 200k credits in profits even though my Ibuki is so ripped up by the end of battles that I earn more Dreadnoughts in her than I have in any of my BBs.

I like WoWs because the game has a nice progression curve. I started off with the stats of a deliberate griefer (check my low tier IJN DD and CA stats) and I am still improving as I go. Even so, I still did damage and hit enemy ships. In tanks, you are basically just free XP and credits for the seal clubbers when you start off. It's a long time before you become anything useful, and so I prefer WoWs for the simple fact that it allows players a chance to contribute even before they start getting good.
-
Well, I think all that can be said about how PvE is unprofitable has already been said. I myself don't play PvE because it takes too long to get anything done with any of my ships. That said, I think that the rewards in PvE are fine if WG would just make PvE repair costs a little more toothless so the players who play there can still advance in the game albeit at a slower pace.

This game needs a matchmaker destroyer balance
dasCKD replied to Dominico's topic in General Discussion
Destroyers aren't actually hard to shoot at and hit, at least in most cases. The problem is that for a cruiser to get into the ranges where their guns can really do damage to destroyers, they have to expose themselves to fire from battleships that can easily end their game. The dominance of destroyers is indirectly caused by the gigantic advantages most battleships have over most cruisers. I don't know what kinds of destroyers you fight, but when I face destroyers they always try their best to rip me to pieces. This is simply inapplicable in my experience, considering the differences between destroyers as well as the traits that affect destroyers. A team can have 3 Kievs or Tashkents compared to the other team's 1 Fubuki, but if the other team has a lot stealthy cruisers i.e. Mogami, Atago, or New Orleans then the destroyer heavy team has a heavy destroyer advantage is mostly screwed. If the destroyer heavy team is against a BB heavy team on the other hand then they'll have a field day. Same with a stealthy destroyer heavy team like the IJN variants when they're up against CVs. They really don't though. The power of a destroyer, as mentioned above, is dictated by dozens of different circumstances. Limiting their numbers really does little to achieve anything.- 12 replies

Is the game more/less "enjoyable" now compared to when you first started playing?
dasCKD replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
Someone should make a horror movie parody using the premise of Steve, invading WoWs and corrupting the minds of all battleship players into doing nothing but sidescraping the map border at quarter speed. -
It would upset the basic game mechanic in most classes, and would make both shell types entirely redundant. Also it won't be a very good idea to mix HE characteristics (perfect normalization, DOT, increased module destruction) with AP characteristics (high damage, high penetration).
-
It'll be nice if that comes to EU. I can use the Takao for clan battles and then use the dobloons I bought to buy a Tirpitz.

Not right now. You need to create a new account on the US server if you want to play with them. -
Most of the issues would be solved if they just gave CVs the same credit coefficient as every other class. CVs for a long time had a reduced credit coefficient though it rarely was an issue because most CVs in most games can save on repairs. With this new system however, making money with a CV has become unreasonably difficult. Add this to the fact that CVs have a naturally higher repair cost due to having to pay for ammunition like any other class in addition to having to pay for plane replenishment means that the economy is actively hostile to CV players. If say a Shokaku gets paid in the same way that a Fubuki or Amagi does for similar actions (i.e. doing the same effective damage, spotting the same number of ships and torpedoes, shooting down the same number of planes) then the credit issue will basically be a non-issue for most CV players.

You know the funniest thing? This won't stop camping. People will still camp because even though it won't cost them any more to die, they still need to make money to break even. They'll still stay back to try to do damage in order to break the bank. This patch might mean that people pay less for repairs on battleships, but battleships will still camp. Cruisers will camp with them, or they'll die. Russian DDs will still rip apart battleships using long range HE. Games might be more profitable, but this changes nothing.
-
Without any cost? Oh, you must mean all that repair, servicing, ammunition, and plane replenishment fees that CVs DON'T PAY FOR. Yes. That must be what you were talking about. This patch has really only helped BBs. Even camper BBs get ripped to shreds when they let the ally team die and let the entire enemy team descends on them. IJN and high tiered USN DDs also can avoid repair costs, mostly due to the fact that they do little damage and so they need to defend their HP in order to even break even. Now they have to pay for repairs too.

I don't have a Yamato, and the CVs in the test server are mostly n00bs. I'm nevertheless pretty sure it's impossible to kill a Yamato with one strike using any CV. In the time it takes for the enemy CV to go back and rearm, there should be more than enough time for the battleship to relocate to an AA heavy zone or for a AA ship to arrive. A BB can survive 2-3 CV strikes, depending on the strength of the AA and the skill of the CV. A DD will almost always die within a CV's first attack.
-
It's very useful for incompetent and useless CV players to ruin the games of their betters. I had a horde of AS Lexingtons in my games last night. I sank DDs, killed their CAs and did 100k damage or more and snatched top billing in XP even with the nerfed XP coefficient for CVs and yet my team has managed to snatch defeat from any advantages we had and pulled a defeat every time because my plane supplies burn out when I really needed to pull a hard save. For the next change to CVs, before even the UI changes, I really want replenishment increases in all CVs. A Shokaku has exactly the same plane numbers as the Hiryu even though she has to face better AA and faster planes. All CVs (apart from the Midway and Saipan) needs to have their plane supplies increased.
