They just got lucky. Whenever I syncdrop with my clan mates, we almost always end up on either side of the red-green divide. That's not counting the way that I was made to sync drop with our clan's de facto carrier player in ranked last season so he could get a rank 1. Those were some of the most painful games I ever had where potatoes that grinned their way down to the top bracket just leaves my general sphere of influence whenever I'm not looking just to have them picked off one by one by a certain clanmate who is now sitting in his port with a shiny new pirate flag. I now refuse to be on teamspeak whilst ranking because of last season's sync dropping debacle. On a separate topic op, I do recall you promising to use the Belfast as a profile picture once she's in game.

A bit off topic, but I am appalled by what the relatively quite high survivability of the Shima is implying. I really do wish that WG would remove the 20km torpedoes already so they can come forwards and get killed by me in a Taiho.

Move the carrier ship command to the tilde key. I have a long time ago.

Make a joke like that again, and you shall be cursed with having a carrier with the skill of that carrier we met in ranked for the rest of eternity

People tend to bring up a player's experience when discussing balance because it's rather relevant. I personally avoid it if I can, but sometimes it is just unavoidable. When discussing game balance, facts are only supplementary to opinion. There are statistics that could be cited, but ultimately the interpretation of those statistics can be bent either way. I could bring up how battleships do, on average, the highest amount of damage at pretty much every respective tier save for carriers and outliers like the Belfast, but whether or not these numbers are fine is something left up to interpretation. That's why player experience is so often cited in order to evaluate a class's performance. If a player had played all classes, they will have a better feel of class balance than players who only play one class more or less. Say I have 10k average damage in a Hindenburg, a ship with typically +50k average damage. If I were to claim that the Hindenburg was overpowered, then no one would listen to me and they would be right to. My performance actively contradicts the narrative I was crafting, and so my opinion on the matter would hold little weight. Balance is a matter of interpretation, so player merit is very relevent in balance discussions. If a paragon of player performance in a class like Papi were to say that carriers were overpowered, then that has a lot of weight because he has clearly mastered his craft and is the player with the best comprehension of game mechanics at least where said class in concerned. If, on the other hand, a player with a 5% carrier win rate and 20k average damage in a Hakuryu was to tell us that carriers were overpowered, then he would be laughed at and rightfully so.

Sure, after I have my valentine's/birthday thing done. What specifications should she have? -
The problem with giving destroyers citadel hitboxes is that unlike most cruisers and all battleships, destroyers have engine and magazine hitboxes that are in direct contact with their outermost armor. This means that close to every single HE hit on a destroyer will be a citadel hit, even when that HE shell is being fired by another destroyer. I am not fundamentally against giving destroyers citadel hitboxes, but it should be reserved for destroyers with outer plating like the Khabarovsk or potentially the upcoming French (high tiered) destroyers.

Your opinions of the usefullness of IFHE compared to the British SAP

Just as well that Zaos fires HE at Minotaurs, I hope they'll still do that when I get to my Minotaur quite frankly. I have a Zao, and I've seen what one well placed AP salvo from that thing can do to a RN cruiser. -

203 mm HE gets no bonus penetration spots against RN cruisers at tiers 8-10. -
I am lewd with my art if nothing else . No no no you don't understand! You don't think that a game mechanic that disadvantages certain battleships are instantly cancer, so you are obviously part of the pro-CV, pro-CA/CL, pro-DD mafia who just wants battleships to have no defense against the evil ships! Battleships are the masterraceships in history and the fact that WG allows those evil cruisers and destroyers to hurt battleships is just more proof that WG are filthy pro-Zionist cruiser/destroyer and class traitors!
-
I am personally against IFHE, but I'm against it because of what it does to ingame cruiser balance. Battleships have been overly prevalent for far too long now, and it's chasing away the prey for my shiny new Hidden-Berg. Some cruisers are battleship killers, that's just the way it is.

You logic is therefore that a ship that is not using its own equipment to directly spot the system should not have the benefits of a lock on system. It's technically true of course in reality, if you are spotting something yourself you are more likely to be able to hit it than if you are aiming based on positional data relayed from other ships. If we want to make this mechanic inclusive however, we need to extend this logic to all points that it applies. First of all: if a destroyer go forwards and spots a target, then you would have the same penalty as a ship in a smoke screen as you are also receiving positional data relayed to you over communications. You would lose the benefit and accuracy improvement for all ships that you yourself didn't personally spot. Second, if your planes or you ally's planes spots something, then the same should apply as you are also receiving communications data instead of spotting a target yourself. Same logic as above applies. Thirdly, if you are sitting behind an island and your superstructure is hidden with your guns pointed around the corner then you would also not be able to get the benefits of target lock and accuracy improvements as your command and spotting tower would be hidden from view. It would also probably take down your gun range when pointing at an area obscured by the island as the in game range values are calculated by effective instead of potential range. Fourthly, destroyers fire so quickly that changes to accuracy and dispersion mechanics will have a minor effect on sitting in smoke and shooting if at all. I would go on, but I think that this is enough of a justification to keep the mechanic out of the game. Tl;dr:

German Destroyers, It has been an honor playing you!
dasCKD replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in Destroyers
The Taiho's deck can literally invalidate the HE of BATTLESHIPS (all but the HE shells of the Kurfurst, Free dish, and Yamato vanilla IIRC). Why would a destroyer, regardless of nation, expect to be able to hurt a Taiho? I remember being caught out of position one time with a Schors in front of my Taiho spotting me. He started shooting at me a full minute before I relaunched the torpedo bombers to deal with her, and I didn't react sooner because I didn't even realize that I was being shot at because I was not taking damage. At all. From a cruiser. I can think of plenty of complaints I would levy at the KM destroyer line despite having so far only touched two of them, but the performance of the shells is not one of them. Edit: just checked. She has 95 mm of deck armor, meaning that she has the armor thickness to entirely ignore HE of calibers 570 mm and smaller on regular ship lines and 380 mm and smaller on German battleship lines. But sure, this is a problem with the KM destroyers. -
Yes, we expected destroyers with hydroacoustics. Just think back to the destroyers at the time, the Japanese, Americans, and Russians. Could you imagine a Benson with hydroacoustics comparable to a cruiser's? What about a Kiev? Hell, even a Kagero or a Shimakaze would be utterly lethal with hydroacoustics, never mind something like a Yuugumo. Instead, what we got was a light cruiser line with terrible smoke and no heals. A black is a Fletcher with a radar. The Fletcher is a destroyer, in many ways the perfect destroyer. We don't need to "wait and see" to asses the impact that such a ship would have towards the game.

Anyways, Saipan. I went with a elegant woman aura with a crippling gambling problem, what with her 1000 pound bombs that instant kills ships just as often as it does 0 damage. I would choose the torpedo loadout, but her payload is quite narrow. Not much good for killing non-battleships. Original art gallery -

Went with a large cloak instead of a scarf, I thought it suited the "queen" aura more. Note to my future self: learn how to draw glasses you lazy git. Link to full image album It was when I was drawing this image that I realized how remarkably stupid the Bismark class's uniform looks -
I don't need AFT, my Zao runs Defensive AA. No point for speccing towards secondaries in a cruiser. Fire Prevention might have been a possible option, but I generally avoid prolonged cruiser duels in my Zao. RL is the only other skill and whilst the advantages it offers is minor, I could think of games where I would have been victorious if I had the RL skill.
