The problem with stealth firing is that, IMO, it's not very effective. Unless you're a Zao or a Chapayev, you just don't output enough damage against battleships for stealth fire to be a legitimate tactic. Whilst annoying, stealth fire is not brutally effective the same way torpedo salvos used to be against battleships. Only one ship, as far as I know, would really suffer from stealth firing being removed. Most of the arguments posted here reference the fact that battleships need a strong counter, and I have actively spoken in support of stealth fire on the basis of it reducing battleship numbers. I, however, would think that the removal of stealth fire, at least for now, would be a net benefit for the game. The battleship problem can be addressed in better ways such as improvements to the torpedo performance of torpedo focused destroyer lines and the enlargement of battleship turning circles.

The new French cruisers and how I fear WG will miss an opportunity
dasCKD replied to ShinGetsu's topic in General Discussion
I would, but the response I was responding to suggested that it would be entirely pointless. Currently, no cruiser save for the Graf Spee has the penetration to cut through the bow and aft ends of the German battleships unless they hit the tiny plating where their penetration is actually high enough to go through. What Oely001 was suggesting was to entirely removing the fire chance of non-penetrating HE hits to 0. They won't take any damage if I can't hit those platings that are the hardest part of any ship to hit (the extreme ends of the bow and stern) which I probably won't, making them effectively immune to heavy cruiser HE and entirely immune to light cruiser HE. With F3s maybe. With 4 kilometers of forward warning, even a ship as gigantic as the Kurfurst can render torpedo threats as all but moot, especially considering how long high tier destroyer torpedo reloads are. With an excess of 300 mm of belt armor? If you're in a Yamato or another Kurfurst maybe. Again, rudimentary angling makes them all but immune to damage. That's just silly. How much penetration does that cruiser have? Russian ships, I swear. Very well, I'll concede this point. Then either I am the most unlucky Yamato captain in existence or every last Kurfurst and Fredish I faced have been the most lucky ships I have ever faced. They're not immune to CV attacks the same way that an Iowa or Montana is, but their AA is more than sufficient to dilute an incoming carrier attack to an extent where it could be absorbed. I'll get to the German tiers 9 and 10 eventually, the Bayern is giving me endless crap right now. I really can't put up with slow battleships. Ultimately I think that whilst powerful, the German battleships are mostly balanced. With the 0% fire chance suggested by Oely001 however, it removed one of their largest weaknesses and turns a powerful ship into an overpowered one. -
The new French cruisers and how I fear WG will miss an opportunity
dasCKD replied to ShinGetsu's topic in General Discussion
If it took penetration damage to deal fires as he suggested, then they WOULD be immune to fire. Speaking frankly, 1 fire is nothing for a battleship to deal with when the game is only 20 minutes long. They also have the longest ranged hydroacoustic search in the game. Premium hydro, coupled with scout fighters and a working brain, makes them basically immune to torpedo attacks. If the battleship you're talking about is the Scharnhorst or Gneisenau maybe. How many guns capable of penetrating German deck armor can hit them accurately at that range exactly? It's like saying that a Yamato's deck armor is weak because she could get detonated from the HE splash. Sure. If the segment isn't depleted. Or if almost every single shell hits and doesn't bloom randomly and go wide, something that won't matter against any other battleship because just 1 or 2 citadel hits with some more overpens would do the exact same damage range, if not more. Yes, and the Shima's 20k torpedoes COULD instantly wipe out a ship if they hit. Do you have any argument that doesn't depend on everything going perfectly for you and the ship's captain being a window licking moron? They also have the AA that's built to spec into MAA, making them extremely resistant to air attacks. The German BBs being larger than their contemporaries also only happens at tier 9 at which point they get the kind or armoring on their outer plating and belt that most ships would kill to have on their citadels. -
The only good game I remember having on Epicenter is either Last night where I declared that Epicenter can go F*ck itself and I would die to a suicide rush before I let myself be bogged down in a 10 minute camp fest before knocking over an enemy flank and blowing up ship after ship who have never heard of the Yamato's Lolpen cannons. When I'm in a carrier, farming poor destroyers.

Algérie, Henri IV and Duca d'Aosta preliminary stats
dasCKD replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Cruisers
Quite frankly, if the Henri isn't going to our perform the Stalinium shells with her far larger guns then she should just be given the 203s and better RoF like the rest of the French line. If HE penetration is a good selling point, then just make that a national characteristic like it is on the KM battleships. -
Ah, the leader of the windowlicker's association just arrived. How wonderful. Just what we needed.

The new French cruisers and how I fear WG will miss an opportunity
dasCKD replied to ShinGetsu's topic in General Discussion
Yes I am. We're talking about fires, not HE damage. KM BBs are already more protected against cruiser HE than any other battleship. Superstructure HP also depletes extremely quickly, meaning that large damage values quickly devolved into picking at a boulder. They're a battleship line that's: Practically immune to fires Practically immune to destroyer torpedoes Practically immune to battleship caliber AP Very resistant to carrier attacks Yes, it is bad. Awful in fact. The cost is basically irrelevant. The simple fact that you COULD built a ship line that is immune to everything save for carrier attacks is a problem in and of itself, especially considering how rare carriers are. -
Is it a good Idea to remove Manual Atacks for low Tir CVs
dasCKD replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
That may well be, but I don't see tier 4 and 5 battleships, premiums aside, to be particularly powerful. Their guns, whilst destructive, are unreliable at the best of times. They're either extremely slow or extremely hard to miss. All in all, I find most tier 4 and 5 battleships to be perfectly acceptable in comparison to the carriers, cruisers, and destroyers of those tiers. It's not until tier 6 that ships like the Fuso appears and the power creep really starts. -
Why did you bring up XP then? Did your computer crash on a picture of your face again? I reserve thought for the people who deserve it. I don't have to pull any cards. I can just sit here, and watch you hit yourself in the face over and over whilst trying to patch your inane ravings with lies, misinterpretations, and ignorance as if in hopes that your inane complaints might one day be able to constitute an argument. You cretin.

Is it a good Idea to remove Manual Atacks for low Tir CVs
dasCKD replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
I think they should just nerf the air dropped torpedoes at the lower tiers already and buff the ones at the extreme high tiers. Whilst this is mostly ahistorical (at least on the IJN's end) it would certainly help with balance if a Hosho had less of a strike potential than a Shokaku does. The Kawachi doesn't have the AP damage of the Amagi. The Isokaze doesn't have the torpedo damage of a Kagero. I don't see why it should be, from a game design perspective, different for a CV. The lack of alpha strike would also give lower tiered players more chances of learning to deal with carriers early on. It's not like the Hosho or Langley would be rendered useless if their damage alpha was reduced to 6000-7000 per torpedo. -
I don't think destroyers, baring the Akizuki, needs stealth fire. It only serves to make the enemy's game unpleasant and it is a detriment to your team to have one of their eyes and potential burst alpha potentials relegated to trying to chip away at a boulder with what might as well be a plastic spoon.

Ah, the German DDs are finally getting a buff!

With fire prevention, that would make KM BBs basically immune to fires as the single fire that could possibly be set would be completely inconsequential. -

Is it a good Idea to remove Manual Atacks for low Tir CVs
dasCKD replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
This is one of the worst ideas conceivable. It's like removing manual aiming from low tier cruiser players, forcing lower tiered battleships to fire nothing but HE because aiming for citadels is hard, or giving the control of their main batteries the automatic aiming of the secondary batteries, or forcing destroyer players to empty all their torpedo tubes at once just because more experienced players are able to more easily exploit the newer players using their better game knowledge and trigger discipline. -
I would be fine if it was moved to the lower tiers. High tier ships are, with very few exceptions, extremely inappropriate for the game mode. A Nagato or a York can brawl just fine. At tier 10 non-DD can show their broadside to any 1 of anywhere up to a dozen ships in the game without losing half their HP or simply dying right there.
-
An overall nerf to non-cruiser AA and a range buff to carrier AA is another way to address that. By putting their carrier at risk, the carrier could set up a very powerful AA exclusion zone for themselves to extend their engagement range. The nerf to non-cruiser AA would mean that carriers can't depend on the AA of massed battleships and has to put their own ship at risk to provide consistent AA support for their squads.
-
It already is. The closer a carrier is to the front lines, the better they can cycle their fighter escorts and the faster they can cycle their strike wings.

Premium Cruisers etc. with Repair Party Consumable, Prinz Eugen, Tirpitz
dasCKD replied to Widar_Thule's topic in General Discussion
I would prefer it if all the tier 8 cruisers receives a heal consumable in line with what the Atago has, with a possible exception of the Kutuzov. I would also extend this to all tier 8 cruisers in the future. I think this would improve the game for everyone.- 51 replies

War Gaming actually gears carrier play towards fighter decks now. I generally won't make any more than literally barely enough to scrape by on my Taiho even with the high 100k in damages (admittedly with premium consumables and credit camo) unless I down at least 20-30 enemy planes as well. The main issue with carriers, IMO, is that it punishes success and rewards idiocy. I remember wiping out several tier 10 destroyers and battleships and shooting down 35 planes in one match, only to come third in XP. On the other hand, a Shokaku I met last night, running a fighter deck, managed all of 7 plane kills over the entire match and somehow ended in the lower middle part of the leaderboards.

Stupidity really is unstoppable. I would like to edit in an image right now with a Yamato sitting at the back of the map with the scout plane up. You can't even shoot down a Yamato's shells. You have no place in judging that. You don't play carriers. You have no concept of how much a carrier earns based on performance. Your opinion on the matter is completely irrelevant and you waste time, both yours and ours, in commentating on it. I can't comment on the amount a tank in World of Tanks makes because I have no concept of how much a tank SHOULD be making. You likewise have no place commenting on the earning potential of carriers. You're the cretin whose sole argument is "if you're not making any credits then you aren't good enough". Because to someone like that your argument is instantly invalid and you show yourself as the moron you are. Your argument was that the op was not making enough because he was not good enough of a carrier player. Therefore when confronted by one of the better carrier players who instantly renders your argument invalid on the basis of them also suffering from the economy you demonstrate a knee-jerk vestigial reaction, whether deliberately or reflexively, to calling them invalid on the basis of their class choice conveniently forgetting your previous comments that the op isn't a good enough CV player. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

Premium ships are expensive to model, with all of the measurements, research, testing, development, and balancing that has to go into a ship to make it balanced. Re-skinning a ship however costs about one afternoon for an amateur modder to do. Here is a list of non-premium ships which I would pay real money for if they had a premium counterpart which I can use without having to retrain my captain. V-25 Hiryu Shokaku Fiji Amagi Shiratsuyu Benson (USN hull B version) I'm sure they are other ships that other players would like to see as well. Ships people would love to keep in their port, but can't because they need to keep moving their captain forwards to remain competitive with their competition. Just this lot should already bag close to 100 euroes, and I very much doubt that I'm the only one who would be willing to pay for this arrangement. Come on War Gaming, make this happen.
