The fun and engaging game mechanic
Ferry_25 replied to Dirty_Filthy_Scrublord's topic in General Discussion
I'm still at the "I don't give a F" side of detonation. I just don't understand that game mechanic. Don't draw the "realism" card on me. We are talking about a game in which ships can appear and disappear into existence at a quantum mechanical level, where planes can spot you straight through mountains and your AA can shoot them through those same mountains, where radar is oblivious by that same mountains and where ships can spot enemies through smoke like it wasn't even there. So the "realism" argument doesn't fly for me. On the other hand: deto is very rare. When I get the feeling I haven't been detonated enough, I'll sharpen Lucile and bring out my Kamikaze R. That ship is IMO extremely prone for detonation. Heck I can clearly remember a detonation when I d been hit around my aft flag pole. That'll be 10 flags for me. In other non K-R situations the detonation was my mercy blow anyway: yielding me an extra 10 flags. I can remember like 3 or 4 battles where I was detonated in (nearly) full health by some freak (bad)luck. I'm using my anti deto flags in CW only nowadays. The rest I couldn't care less. Because I always see getting or giving a detonation is 100% a matter of (bad)luck. There is no skill involved anyway. No matter what LWM is saying in her "I shot a gazillion bots and you need to aim at 1'5''7150039998883337177711119992221111'''10-exp999'''' coordinate (that is IF Mercury, Venus, Pluto and Jupiter are in the perfect alignment) you will get a detonation in 100% of the cases" BS. It's simple. I have 7700 games under my belt (Randoms) and 59 detonation "achievements." Biased from the fact I'm protecting my high tier DD's with flags, DD's are more prone to deto's as are cruisers, cruisers more than BB's I'd roughly calculate the chance of 1% of getting a deto. So 1 out of 1 100 matches. Do I like it? No. Do I think in the current meta it's BS? Yes. Do I bother? no, not at all. My advice: if you feel like you haven't got a detonation for a long time, go sealclub and provoke them there: 10 protection flags and more or less lesson the chance of getting it on higher tiers (no, I get it. Even mr numbers moron (me) understands it's a statistical chance). The only loser, ever, in this game mechanic is WG themselves. While "seal clubbing" I (pars pro toto) might scare away new players in the process of getting my "mandatory" detonation quotum. So I might change my POV from "indifferent" to "indifferent to get it the F away from wows" as a simple advice. Edit: parallel on topic. I am so curious from the CV players: is it possible to detonate a CV? I've never ever seen that happening in game. I'm so freaking curious if that's possible? As far as the "realism card" is concerned: where a CV did they storage the plane torpedo's/ bombs/ heck: bullets for the fighters (50.000 bullets exploding at once can still make a heck of an explosion)? So logic dictates there is a chance of detonating a CV: placing a AP shell at the right place. I just didn't see it yet in game so far. -
Thanks bro/ sis. I guess you're an epic 100% WR player who has never ever accidentally set a fire on a friendly brainless ally who sailed straight in front of you while you were in TV in that 1 out of a "million situations RNG is saying "yes." Not even Failmu has done that ever. Really, I can learn so much from you....
-
OK, I'm feeling I'm in a situation here like in a meeting in which I don't have any clue what they are talking about right now and I almost tempt to say "yes I agree" but I'm not. OP: I'm at a loss here. I really don't understand what you're saying or proposing. Could you please elaborate for me?

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Ferry_25 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Just met @_Helmut_Kohl_ on my side. On the 1 map in which camping is actually promoted: once in every 1000 matches it'll work out perfectly. Our team nicely aggressively pushed and played. The reds stayed behind their islands/ smokes and had THE major opponent we are all combating, namely RNG-us, at their side. I played Kurry and I have offered to sell it to Greenpeace for 1 credit. I shot fluffyballs which all of a sudden couldn't hit and if by some miracle they did hit, it was an automatic shatter, bounce, overpen or pen with no dmg on a full broadside cruiser at close range. One of those matches in you can almost see the "nope, you will not win, no matter what" light is flashing. I don't care: we did well. Good to have met you Helmut. Edit: map Trap. I've come to loath that map more and more given time. No, not because I just lost. But WTF is the point of this abomination, other than camping and sniping behind rocks? Quick reminder: we are not playing Duke 3d or Unreal here but ships who are fighting in open water. No offense, just a humble meant reminder to WG... Please WG: quintriple the Ocean map chance WG. That way the true ship fans will prevail and the rock camping whiners will quickly go back to tetris or mario bros. -
I sincerely hope you appreciate the meaning of my "like" for your post. It hurts my heart to lose a fellow wows fan ant though I don't know him, still considering a friend. My all time motto is still applying: enemies for 20 minutes, friends for life. In my life and work (physician) one of my hardest lessons was: you want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans. We have absolutely zero squat to say anything in our lives. Please appreciate everything. It can be taken away in, literally, a heart beat. What happened to our friend is exactly the reason I'm having trouble with terms of "getting killed" or "this or that cancer" in game. FFS: it's a game. You get wrecked. But you live to try it another time. In RL there are no second chances. There's only 1. And in a blink of an eye it can be taken from you. I've seen dozens of people who either are going to lose this final "battle," lost their beautiful partner or had to bury their own children. I can't phantom their grief, even given the fact I lost my dad way too soon (cancer). My point is not setting you up my dear friends. Only trying to help you remind the most important fact: enjoy the present moment. It's all we have got. Everything else is merely relative. Yes, fulminate on bad sessions and lousy games. But please, from the bottom of my heart: it's only a freaking game. Namaste my friend. May your soul find his/ her deserved rest. I will honor you with enjoying the time I have left and as a fellow wows fan: the matches I am granted. Should there be a presence after: raise a beer with my old man please. Bill it on me.

Thanks @_VAMPA_. The overwhelming lack of response is telling me I'm not the only one struggling with this issue.

Parallel on topic (no not quite): I'm waiting for the Klarbflaglahbah cake...... 5000 doubloons if the mistress can pull this off Blixies.... Yes, that's a challenge.

You are supposed to say "the current system is perfect" OP. Discussing the current TK system is a taboo. You'll never get a straight answer, other than "it's your fault." People are, shockingly for me enough, completely blind about certain situations. "it's your fault, LTP" and that's it. Don't come here to ask for advice about this matter cause you won't get any. You take a good position in a DD, smoke up and shoot the living daylights out of the reds and some braindead zombie is sailing right in front of you while you're RL adrenaline rush and RNG is in your favor: setting the no brainer on fire by accident which he doesn't put out, you turn pink. That's your fault. No argument. LTP. You drive a DD, doing your job and scout and you're being radared by the cruiser behind the island, you flee in panic and leave parting gift drop, make a double strike and 1 camper happens to be 0,00000001 exp -10 mm within your torp range and you accidentally TK it. It's your fault, LTP. You see that same DD from your support position, being shot to pieces and you try to help him ans by some freak accident RNG decides to land 1 hit om him out of 12 on the reds which happens to be his mercy blow. It's your fault, LTP. That's the only thing you'll hear about this matter. My advice: don't take any chance, however quantum mechanical remotely slim for teamkilling. I'd rather let the game lose when there was a possibility to win just because of this horror. When in smoke 95% of my attention is going to potential allied idiots going in front of me rather than on the reds, no parting gifts when in the DD situation and I let my teammate rot in peace when there's the slight possibility of hitting him by accident. Working as intended, right? I've mentioned this over and over. Yes the truly rotten potatoes should be punished. But FFS 99,99999% of the teamkilling is a mere accident. When I do it I thoroughly apologize and explain the specific freak situation. Or if I did how I screwed up big time. When being the "victim" in the same amount of cases the "perp" apologizes as heavily. For me the case is closed right there and then. I know I'm talking to deaf ears and blind eyes here (I know; it's my/ your fault, LTP) but still I strongly opt for the possibility for a "forgive" option after battle. So you can weed out the accidents from the actual trolls. Which are in a vast minority. And the overwhelming majority of players who made an honest mistake don't have to suffer through x amount of battles in which they are afraid of bumping into an ally, thus making them less effective and punishing their teams for x amount of battles. IMO that way the pink status is regaining it's effect it used to have. I can clearly remember when you were being mocked and taunted in a pink ship. That meant you really screwed up and I'd did anything to prove that was a once but never again mistake. Thus serving it's purpose. Yes I know; "it's your fault, LTP" For all I care: shove that card in a very dark and damp place. IMO the current system is only annoying people and not really punishing the real trolls.

The brake tip is worth a lot. But I also understand each game is eventually going to bore you (or me). Hence I don't believe in gaming addiction: there always will come a time when you've seen it, done it and dealt with it. A bit pity you hide your stats even with an claimed 10k matches. But I can understand. Uninstall if you insist. But I must agree with the "take a brake" argument here. Leave it for a couple of weeks, heck months and try it later. For all the flaws in wows 1 thing I must give WG (and i think there's consensus about this) is the fact it keeps evolving and changing. Cool down and come back later. With some practice you'll see the smoke isn't that big of a deal. If it's an "RN Smokepingpongballpewpewer no good for nothing except eating citadels" just rurn your nose/ aft toward the smoke and let it fire all the fluffyballs it can fire at you. Oh, boohoohoo: you take 1000 dmg out of 500 salvo's. if it's a DD: somewhat bigger threat but the same tactic. Hope for a fire asap on your nose/ aft and let it merrily burn. The section is immune for more fires. getting saturated quickly and that smoke has 1 major drawback (for them): it doesn't last forever. Believe me the absolute most fun aspect in this game is oneshooting Citadelmeanders, exploding mount Fiji's, Edingsorrow and half cows (the intelligence part coming definitely from the cow) in their precious smoke. Simple tricks: look at them and when the decelerate, they're smoking. Fire at the moment they vanish and "blimp" gone with the wind. Also train using the spotter plane. If he's pingpongballpewpewing it's really easy to "pinpoint" their position. It's a majer thrill to see their last orbital volley go trough the air.... Yes it'll yield you lots of karma reports. But that actually adds to the fun. And if the halfcow has inherited 1 braincell from the noncow part it'll hide behind an island for 95% of the game time, thus rendering it as useless. And yes, once every 2000 matches, when all the star align and there is prospect of world peace that pathetic ship will nail you with their 1 line torp spread. But that's such a freaking rare occasion you might as well neglect it. The only 2 ships in smoke which are worrying me a bit are Kutuzov and Belfast. But running away from those cloud will only increase your chance to survive. And again: the smoke doesn't live forever....

at t7 now and I'm having a blast! I really like the line. Only a bit "too bad" I now want to try out the 150's... Guess I'll have to wait till T8. Expecting to hit that within a week.
-
Also I've noticed my WR is steadily increasing and my karma is dwindling. That is a sign of progress, isn't it?

Hipper is one of my major "off ships" in wows. I know there are a lot of fans but I couldn't make it to function. It took me about 3 months until I finally got the nerve to buy Roon when I lost my way there. Roon was doing very fine and now I have Hindenburg. Though my stats are saying the opposite I highly like this ship and I find it a blast to play. As introduction to your post, of all the suffering I had on Mister (like in miss a shot (shatter, bounce, overpen, pen without dam, miss altogehter, 0,000001% fire chance with HE and all before mentioned problems with AP) a higher chance of detonation wasn't one of them. heck I often prayed for a detonation on this abomination: that would at least granted me flags for the inevitable kill.

I've been given a, deserved, warning when commenting on CV's. Suffice to say my absolute main stock of reports is going to CV players. And yes I have little experience in them. Tried it a couple of times but that interface is so childishly simplistic i won't even bother. Planes won't respond to orders (be it attack or abort (VERY well outside the committed range)) and the match is settled in the first minute when CV's are present. Just face it: the side who has the CV which has some rudimentary insight how it's functioning wins. Also all non Midway/ Saipan side is the one that loses. I'm seriously considering just going back to port when I'm in a non Saipan/ Midway team, just take my loss and move on. What I am trying to say is there is something so absolutely broken in CV play it's not fun anymore. For almost nobody. I think major changes are needed. My POV: the quickest win is to remove CV's altogether. But that'll make a lot of people upset and I can understand that. So that's not likely to happen. From a, let's say, non CV POV the main problem is, roughly, either I am playing a ship who doesn't care about planes, in fact welcoming them, cause I'll shred them regardless (point, click and forget and seeing the purple ribbons add up like nothing) or I'm playing a ship who doesn't have any response. What I'm suggesting is first make an interface for a CV player which is actually responding to commands. Second: get rid of the fixed loadouts. Give each tier a certain amount of squads to bring up so both CV's can play more the chess game. Third: get rid of the insane "panic" reaction with the defensive AA consumable. Yes make the AA very more effective but that "panic" is just retarded. Though it's an arcade game nobody's arguing there's a simulation aspect in wows. Once commited to a torp strike, f.e., that's what's needing to happen: the squad needs to take that formation to give that torp pattern. Either they all get shot down or the strike is happening. What in the name of *fill in something rude* would make that squad to spread the torps in that ridiculous pattern? 4 make an option for a emergency abort: let the planes drop their payloads uneffectively, even when commited, and retreat to the carries in a dodging pattern in case manual AA is deployed. The CV is the only class in this game who is facing a "ammo challenge" The number of planes is fixed. Once out, it's over. 5 give ships a crew in the HP pool (I understand WG doesn't want to show actual crews on the ships in battle for the specific player target (blood and gore etc)). But making it a "blunt number" will give fighters the ability to strafe ships: doing dmg to ships as if they'd be taking out sailors (which was AFAIK an effective method in the ere in which wows is playing). 6 reinstate the manual drops on all tier CV's asap. IMO this is by far the worst decision ever. As far as the "seal club" argument: it's seal clubbers which taught me the most in battle. Heck I sharpen "Lucille" once in a while and sealclub myself in ships. I always try to make a point in explaining what they should do next time and if (that's a big IF) a "victim" asks me what he/ she's done wrong, I'll exhaust myself in explaining. Get rid of the broken "tier protection" system while you're at it. It's ruining MM on all levels. OK, I'll grant you to keep it on T1. What I'm trying to say is, a player will only improve when facing a better one. it's the way I've done it and I still don't mind when I'm being overtiered by 2. In whatever boat: I'll adept and give them the best i can. All the more XP for me. 7 Give CV's specific far more reward for scouting. When the 2 braincells active connect they'll understand planes are faster than ships. The importance of a simple fly by on max range in the opening phase to see what the reds are doing can't be overstressed. Give them a very good reward of "first spotting" a ship. Second: reward CV's more than any other class, even DD's, for dmg upon your spotting. 8 increase the reward of shooting down planes. All in all get rid of the "midset" of giving rewards to the ships who does the most dmg or capture the most caps. The non CV's are perfectly able to do those kinds of things. As it is now the CV's are ruining this game. Either you have those "purple top aces" who manage to play it so they can torp and killsteal ships or they are so retarded they do nothing. I recently lost lots of karma when fulminating to a "oh so good purple CV player" who let me get torped by a gazillion torpedo planes while his fighters where staying idle at close range and let the whole thing just happen. Little did he understand he was next in line after me.... "oh, you have a 52 WR and you're asking ME to uninstall?" was his response. OK, that's my 2 cents on CV play. Feel free to burn me again and I'll never bring up the matter in the Forum and I'll keep reporting CV's forever. Not saying I have THE solution here. all I'm saying is as it is now the CV's are the major fun ruiners for me. Edit: paragraphed my WOT at @Teob_VG's feedback. Thanks my friend.

Parallel on topic and might help OP decide: I specced Freddy and Kurry both full secondary. Believe me they work like a charm in brawling. Tried Flamu's tank build on Kurry first but it was 1 utter disaster so I picked up the brawling close combat secondary style and immediately the ship started to function again. When getting low on health those secondaries go absolutely berserk. Only sacrificed secondary batt mod 3 for main batt 3. That's mainly because of CW. Since that's more sniping oriented IMO. On topic: I'm an "off player" for Yamato. Can't make it to function. In a nutshell: shoot, focused, deleted. That's my main experience in it. I'd take Kurfurst over Yama.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Ferry_25 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
I happened to watch it on twitch on Failmu's channel. You played well @Aotearas and he was being a sour loser. What were you supposed to do? Tank in and get wrecked by BB's? no, you defended the line with your div and played the ships to their strengths. Strangely when it's the other way around we are supposed to gasp in awe by @Flamu 's awesome gameplay. I won't debate the fact he's an awesome player. And I happily admit I've learned a ton of good things about wows by him. He's much better then I'll ever be but IMO he's the most sorry whining loser I've ever seen. He and his team just completely derped up that match. And I think it's really pathetic he reported you for that. Edit: proof I saw the whole thing: you were in a double belfast, Atlanta div. You asked him about his "oh, I can play it and you can't ship" and the discussion went on about pasta in his shells. -
Why giving the Midway T8 planes is seriously bad idea
Ferry_25 replied to Horin728's topic in General Discussion
People. I overshot in my post. Felt a bit down when writing it but that's no excuse. Didn't want to hurt anyones feelings and it wasn't meant personal. Please accept my apologies. I misfired here and was out of line. *crawling in corner feeling ashamed* -
Very good point @Spectre__ I chose this build after looking at it in Youtube users. I know it's a double cutting sword but it greatly helps me in anticipating the moves of the reds. And yes it's highly situational but I got a blind torp kill or tow out of it. And like I said: my style is more torp oriented rather then shooting. Most matches I either survive unscratched or I've been stomped to the bottom. When I derp up and let myself get spotted I'm usually in too much trouble to make it out in 1 piece. So Survivability expert would only delay my agony to the inevitable by a few seconds. Anyway: whatever is working for you, keep it on I'd say.

Ferry_25 replied to Horin728's topic in General Discussion
*Edited CV players are *Edited which are somehow always (nearly) on my team (assuming they even wake up in a match) who don't understand anything about this game. Yes there are epic players around but they are so rare and always seem to have the red color in my case.*Edited Not scouting, let me or another BB getting fully torp dropped while their fighters are standing idle, letting the planes take the most long detour around the map borders to snipe the other CV, pushing into the front line like they're the top BB's in the fleet, redrawing their precious planes right over their own DD's thus reveling their position, kill stealing already doomed ships thus taking an eternity to reload again . No really I can miss those abominations rather sooner than later. -
This is my build for Gearing. I'm not saying it's THE build for a guaranteed victory but it's working the best for me. I found I'm the best in DD's with a torp build. Not much of a "smoke pewpewer" IMO it's a matter of taste OP. What is obvious is my choice for torp acceleration. With that perk I still have 13.2 km range, which is more than enough for me while the fishes go with 71 knots! And I must say my actual Gearing build is fully for CW. I take all prem consumables. Which I would have taken in Random as well.

Ferry_25 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Met my good friend @_VAMPA_ again tonight in CW. While our clan was dominating the game he (she?) did a masterwork with his DD and outplayed us completely and swinging the victory to his clan. The fact my client crashed cost us the match but still: outplaying alone against 4 of us? Deep respect my friend. Very well played. I gave him a compliment by my heart cause CW doesn't allow reports/ compliments. -

i think it'd be an excellent idea. In fact give all CV's Wright brothers' biplanes. I'm here to fight ships *Edited. Go and play wowp if you don't like it. Please: WG has made an very nice update! -
To be honost I didn't play this ship for ages. So I wouldn't know OP. I never considered it a very good ship. And before you start: Blys is for me "one of those ships" which people find awesome but I don't. A personal opinion.

List of views, problems, and other miscellany on the RN Battleships
Ferry_25 replied to Trainspite's topic in General Discussion
Didn't read your entire post OP. But I disagree. The RN BB line is fine as far as I'm concerned.Take Conqueror. Finally I have another T10 BB functioning. Other 1 is Kurry. I don't want Conqueror to be nurtured to a useless twit because Faimu has posted 1 "1 out of a million luck situations" whine post on YT. Where the Montana DID misplay by keeping himself spotted the entire time. Bringing down a Conqueror is easy: just focus fire and teamwork. Heck I'm already getting into trouble with a smoke pewpewing DD with it. And I know: teamwork is a taboo on Random games. But why should I be punished by that? Either learn to do teamwork or keep suffering the consequences. FFS I had a match tonight. A Montana immediately DCP'd 1 fire. Yeah, thanks. I'll keep HE spamming you until you got 3 or 4. He didn't wiggle, he didn't change speed but kept going on happily. Can I punish that please? I would have done the same in any other ship. And the same goes for Lion. Also fire dmg is fully healable. I totally agree with the fire buff on cruisers and DD's. It forces Conqueror (and other RN BB's) to switch to AP when facing cruisers. And oh boy: is that sweet! Oneshot a very healthy Donskoy today with AP. He kept sailing broadside on close range, while I was detected. I could almost hear him thinking "oh, he'll probably going to shoot HE, so why bother?" Again: can I please punish that? He's in a T9 ship for crying out loud. Even if I'd had been spamming HE: in a slim profile he'd had much less chance of being hit. No, he sailed on happily broadside (I was the only BB threat in that situation for him). tl;dr: stop with the whining. The line is fine and each RN BB can be taken down easily with teamwork. as long as that doesn't exist: let me be on my marry way. Stop whining and asking for nerfs for people who can't play this game. I'll have to draw the LTP card on this one. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

OMFG. We started the clan more or less as a "let's see what it's bringing us. Harvest oil and do clanwars. Who knows what it'll bring us." Turns out it's bringing above talents nobody had expected from his/ herself. Storm league baby! I'm crying tears of pride here.
