Why can planes spot ships but not be spotted by the ships?
Ferry_25 replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
Well that's my 10 million $ question as well OP. I often get the "plane spotted" warning when I don't see plane capable ships anywhere near me. Yeah IMO it's highly annoying as well. -
Hipper > Roon. Yet again I ask your highly valued advice
Ferry_25 replied to Ferry_25's topic in Cruisers
Thanks for the input. I see there is no consensus in opinions. That's ok. I have researched Roon but I didn't buy it yet. I've parked the KM cruiserline for the moment. I highly enjoy the BB line and the Russian cruisers. So I'll focus my effort there. Also I'm hoping there will be some more premium German cruisers for captain training and diversity. For (I hope) obvious reasons I'm not considering the Prinz Eugen. The only other prem cruiser I have is Emden. As much as I love that ship and going in lower tier battles once in a while (yes, to sealclub but also for the wonderful absolute chaos those battles are bringing with them!) it's IMO not a "fast capt XP grinder." Edit: I only now found out the upcoming graf Spee will be a cruiser. I thought it was a BB... -
Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?
Ferry_25 replied to Ferry_25's topic in Archive
Guys (m/f) please let's keep this thread friendly. We might not agree with each other and that's fine. I politely ask you to focus on improving gameplay for everybody. Having that out of the way I saw the HE/AP issue coming up as well. IMO HE on a BB can be a very viable ammo choice in certain situations. When I meet a NC my Tirpitz FE who's approaching me nose on I won't hesitate to switch to HE. Better to have a few damage "guaranteed" hits than to try the 1 in a 1000 pen shots to an optimal angled ship. And what's always nice to see is they're forgetting the extra sting of the Tirpitz.... So wonderful to make a "DD suicide torpedo run" with a battleship!! I had a tremendous situation once: Iowa + NC: left - right, double strike! -
This. 8-12 km range is far enough. Everything longer is for noobs. I stepped out of those ridiculous long range torps after I accidentally TK-ed an ally @ 14 km, 999 m, 99 cm and 99 mm. My point: I don't have enough control for those long range torps. Skill combined with captain perks should make the closer range torps more than enough. IMO the extreme long range torp users are the same pussies as the borderline sniping BB's....

Festive Cheer Prize Draw - Do you feel lucky!
Ferry_25 replied to Major_Riff's topic in General Discussion
Ah for a second I didn't really understand your choice: given your username and Avatar. Then I checked on your stats and your Warspite is being your top serial killer already. By the way: is it me or has Perth vanished from the premshop?! -
Your friend got it spot on! The cruisers are Jack of all trades but masters of none. I love cruiserplay a lot. Just of the mixed strenghts and weaknesses. If handled correctly you can have very good battles. The main trick is: they support. And that's where a lot of people are going wrong. They rush forward in some silly solo suicide direction and complain they've been one shot (= instant kill from 1 BB (battleship) salvo). Compared to DD (destroyers (CV: carrier, CL/CA cruiser)) they are not that agile but agile enough to avoid a lot of incoming BB fire. And they are agile enough to give DD's a very hard time. A spotted DD by a cruiser on short range is basically a dead DD. On distance a CA can make a BB life miserable because the cruisers can fire far more often, and fire far more accurate. So instead of hitting 1 devastating punch they can deliver 100 smaller punches. And that's very important to know if you want to grind BB's! When do I engage and when not? 1 absolute vital advice for BB's: you are not in a hurry. Never ever. If you feel you have to chase or are in time stress: something's wrong. Always take your time to carefully aim and don't make rush salvo's. It'll take 20-30 seconds before you can make another shot. And by that time your victim could already be on the other side of the map. Even if the shells are coming in from all directions: don't rush. BB's are made to recieve a punishment.

I'm having the same thing OP. Actually your are just ahead of me to open this up. With all the previous BB's I had great times. Of course: had to get the hang it first but they all shined. I've been looking around in the Forum and on YT. I might be on to something about Bayern. Please correct me if I'm wrong! It seems that BB has ridiculous strong guns. It shoots right through stuff like it wasn't even there. So making a lot of tiny holes in the enemies and eventually you'll have enough holes to sink it. Unfortunately: you don't have that time since you can easily go take a shower, have a nice cup of coffee and take your dog for a walk before you can shoot your next salvo. Your experience with the 1 shot DD have actually strengthen my assumption. And that being said: I am trying to go for angled targets rahter than broadside, so the AP rounds have more resistance and more chance to detonate instead of just shooting through the ships. Also the dispersion on long range makes Mikasa look like the most razorsharp laser beam shooter ever. I try to get in closer range before I open up. Also specced the boat for secondaries as well. Did a match or two with this "tactic" and it seems it's helping. Did nice damage rounds (from my POV of course). Maybe this'll help you?

Welcome OP (original poster)! My advice would be to grind the US cruiserline first... Untill you have Cleveland. Why? Those cruisers have characteristics of all your mentioned BB lines... St Louis has good "go forward, take punches and deliver them hard" like the US BB line does. Phoenix and Omaha hare quite quick and agile yet fragile like the IJN (Japanese) line is and Cleveland is sort of a "combination" of previous mentioned lines, like IMO (in my opinion) the German BB line has. Also you will get familiar with cruiserplay and get to know their weak spots. The BB's are the "natural predators" of cruisers. Know your enemy is extremely vital in this game. Edit: I learned this game by trial and error as well (still am for that matter ). One highly recommendation: don't rush the tiers. Start low and go slow. The game is NOT getting easier the higher the tier you'll become. On the contrary: it's getting harder. Of course it's your choice but I'd advise you not to jump into a Tirpitz too early. If you're playing Myogi you'll find out that ship and Tirpitz only have 1 thing in common: they are mentioned in BB lines... Also: never feel ashamed to ask on this Forum. The only 1 stupid question is the one you don't ask. Look around and you'll find valuable info and tips. Also on YouTube there are wonderful people who will show you the way.

Scharnhorst bought via doubloons - Can I get my money back?
Ferry_25 replied to BruceForce's topic in General Discussion
Afraid you won't get refund. But my advice is not to give up after a few rounds. The consensus is to play Scharnhorst as a "BB-cruiser" hybrid. I am still a bit struggling to find that optimal balance in it: either I play it too "tanky" and get wrecked by the "real" BB's or I find myself a bit too far from the frontline so I'm not that usefull. But I feel it's a very good ship. Practise is King!! -
Actually I like that beachbabe!!!
-
I've send that statement to CERN so the nuclear physicists can figure out that question!!
-
Hey I am NOT obsessed!!! The fact I have 131 ships in port because I refuse to sell them has NOTHING to do with obsession! And the fact I am striving to obtain all ships is purely coincidence....
-
I understand. AFAIK you can't. If you put f.e. a Fiji captain on Belfast it will always show "specialization for Fiji." I think it's beause of the free transfers to premiumships. Should you put your Cambletown captain to Fiji however it will change to "spec Fiji" overtime or by instant retraining. But when changing back it will stay Fiji forever.
-
Of course I'll try but not too serious. That 4th stage is for me a rare epic battle. They do happen sometimes but very more often not. Indeed it's like the Kraken missions. IF I score a Kraken it's always either in stage 2 or the day after that bootcamp ends....

Festive Cheer Prize Draw - Do you feel lucky!
Ferry_25 replied to Major_Riff's topic in General Discussion
I see new Prem ships are upcoming. Like the Spee. What I like to add: if your lot falls on my name. note your prim choice now is not "written in stone." Again: following the rules of OP considering the tier, I am not that "inhuman" should your change your mind. If OP has made the draw and the winners are announced, please PM me you final choice and I will take care of it. T_0_R_H, Aoterearas... Please feel free to ask a lower tier prem... In my hard experience you're dangerously enough already!! (as I really found out the hard way...(too bad it was BEFORE this contest, so I can't disqualify you!!!)) -
Thanks TobyJug. This is reassuring me a lot. I consider myself an experienced player and I am using the 8-12 range torps anyway. Any more than that is IMO in 99% of the cases useless anyway. I miss the control of torps with longer range: Once I accidentally went pink when torping a friendly 9with 100 hp left) at 14 km, 999 m 99 cm and 1 mm with my 15 km torps. Don't even know if it was on the same battle for that matter cause they make the USN shells look lightning fast. Yeah I did manage to ambush torp 2 BB's at extreme range... once. 1 time in my 4.6 k battles. Did I like it? yeah, I'd be lying if I didn't. But was it a real thrill? No absolutely not. IMO the 12+ range torps are good for the same borderhugging BB noobs shooting into thin air, hoping for that 1 dev strike out of 4.6 k matches.... In fact I already have started to use the IJN DD line more as a gunship tactic. Slow as the turrets might turn they still deal a massive load of damage. I've walked away with about 50% of my Fubuki against a red mahan (granted 1 T difference but still) encounters. And I feel there's room for more improvement... I'm convinced the compensation economy-wise will be fair. And thanks to your input I'm looking forward to the changes again! Edit: T0byJug. I didn't see the very apparent "zero" in your UN in the first place. Had the same problem with T_0_H_R...

Apologies to other WOWS Players, its only a game?
Ferry_25 replied to Redcap375's topic in General Discussion
Oh overall IMO the atmosphere is fairly benign. Of course there are some jerks who really swear in TC but it isn't that bad. And I too am sometimes using words (vocal) which you don't normally use that often in St Pete's Catherdral... It is a bit part of the compatition spirit: I think a virus that has caught nearly all players here. -
Don't want to sound too pre-pessimistic and of course I will see it myself. Nevertheless I have a nagging bad feeling about this... Call me a wallet player noob but I've kept all the ships I've grinded. Got the entire IJN DD line complete and I was getting the hang of the playstyle really good. Most are awesome battles with which I have fine results. Now I see a lot of "old ships" have become entirely "new ships?" Don't know if I feel like re-inventing the wheel alltogether! But like I said: I'll just have to wait and see.

Apologies to other WOWS Players, its only a game?
Ferry_25 replied to Redcap375's topic in General Discussion
Hm. That beacher could have been me... Had a wonderful match on North Y'day. In Tirpitz working nicely together with an Izumo and a cruiser. None of us scaring off for a confrontation and shooting much damage. The reds took the caps quickly and we were behind on points while the ship losses were quite equal. There was a CV in the match too. I came in a situation where I sailed through a straight to confront 3 BB's togehter with Izumo and some other ships. I chose a disengaging angle to fight. When suddenly a DD slipped through the corner of my eye. I had to turn too early and thus beaching myself against mount Everest. I couldn't turn in, cause the 3 BB's (Friedrich, Iowa and NC) would have devoured my broadside. In doing so I managed to eat only 1 torp instead of the whole spread, while keeping angled. A.k.a damage control. And I was still able to returnfire. Somehow by beaching the entire red team became obsessed by sinking me. That's a wonderful psychological effect. I was nearly full health when the whole thing started. And while doing everything in their power to bring me down, our DD's could easily snatch away their caps. Their counter got stuck at 980-ish. It was eventually a glorious victory! I didn't see anyone rant in the TC (didn't pay attention to it TBH). My point is: you don't always know the circumstances things happening. Instead of ranting/ blaming I'd advice you to communicate in a positive manner. That way people can learn from their mistakes and won't do it again that easily -
Is the game more/less "enjoyable" now compared to when you first started playing?
Ferry_25 replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
For me it's more. I started right at the end of open B. I like the changes in interface, HUD, MM and port. As well as the new lines. Didn't mix into the CV discussion that much cause CV play is not my thing. I find it too boringly simplistic. I do agree RNG is playing a too major role in this game. It used to question my own sanity in the past: how the heck did I miss that shot?! Last time in a similar situation I deleted that cruiser in 1 shot with my BB and now I miss alltogether? I even asked on the forum but not really more than the LTP card was drawn. I do understand a certain lvl of RNG is necassery. But now it's too "extreme" since it can't be influenced with any skill. And I know: like everybody I tempt to only remember the "bad RNG" moments the most. My advice to WG is to tweak RNG further to a degree you get similar results in similar situations. IMO it's very strange when playing a cruiser, well angled to a BB in short range, getting caught by surprise by a torp spread in which you must chose: giving the broadside or eat the spread I always chose for the broadside because RNG-us might safe me and it actually does in some cases. IMO that should be a 1 out of a 1000 chance: a BB should be able to punish that off right away in the vast majority of the cases. -
I'd advice You to use duck tape.

Dear WG. I am touroughly aware there are ARP lovers and haters. I am a big fan. Did my homework and watched all the ARP series. I know your license/ cooperation with the marvelous ARP creators is coming to an end. My question: could you please make 1 event before that in which the lover scan play the ARP ships tot heir full potential? I mean: splitting up ships, hovering in the air, firing ridiculous laser shots, shooting a gazillion of rockets and even better: a pneumatic drill to wreck the opponents in a knife fight?? All this when seeing the mental image (NOT a “RL”like sailor) dancing on the deck singing “carnival doja!” Just for once! We (the lovers) have been grinding our @sses off to achieve this wonderful ships. I would so much like to see an event tob ring those horrors “to live” like they were in the series! I would SO much like to see this!

People: I'm really touched by the tremendous response and all the likes to OP. It was his fantastic idea and again: I feel so delighted the Major is granting me to hitch on his idea. Do not worry: I will take my full resonsibility and give my promised reward to my winner! Boy it feels so good to give something. You know: it's the same feeling with citadel hits.... -
I haven't played her for some days. Purely coincidence. Very good captain trainer (since the choice of higher lvl premium IJN ships is very scarce...). I've been focussing on the USSR line in order to help the Nachi grinders. With very ill result I must add: I'm playing wonderful games in them. Hardly ever get sunk in the process... (Helping the community does not mean I'm giving it for free....)

Oh yeah! I liked Maya very much! I thought it was Carnival Doja as well. Heck. it doesn't matter: as long as it shoots 1 million rockets per salvo I'd be delighted! Or the pneumatic drills Takao got on het "new" ship!!!
