How to Play British Destroyer Line Hms Icarus Wows World of Warships

Thank you for this. For a mere DD potato such as myself there were some useful tips there! (I desperately want to like RN DDs, so this is very valuable to me) Also, congratulations on having a voice that I could listen to even if it was only reading out random words from a dictionary.

    Acasta thoughts??

Yes - I like them. But they are (as you said in previous posts) relatively weak compared to the opposition. For some reason they are a kind of fun play style. You made a great comment earlier: " Acasta at T5 pretty much is a small boat with dakka dakka guns that feels good (unless you need to reposition and you get to feel that speed) until you look at damage numbers and realise, most of the time it's far more exciting than efficient. " (By the same token I respect massively the power and capabilities of RN Cruisers & Battleships, but find the play style totally off-putting)

    Acasta thoughts??

A few things to put my reply in context: 1) My very limited exposure to RN DDs actually leaves a positive first impression in terms of "fun to play" 2) You personally are a good poster whose opinion is always worth taking seriously. Respect! Having said that I am mixed about the " playstyle is quite a bit different from US/RU/IJN/PA DDs, which of course is a good thing." Yes - there SHOULD be a DD line like the Royal Navy one, I agree. That IS a good thing in itself. What annoys me (to put it mildly) is that you could also say with considerable justification of the RN Cruiser and Battleship lines that the "playstyle is quite a bit different". Whilst all the lines should vary from each other of course, I don't think that the RN should always be the "quite a bit different" one. What next? RN carriers retain the old RTS style?

British DD missions and port slots

..and all the modules are researched and paid for but you have to remember to mount them And if you win your first game in it you get ice cream!
  6. I've not played ranked - so I cannot comment on any funnies seen there. However since the last patch I have noticed a change in behaviour in the game, as follows 1) Slow loading into battle. I typicall miss the first 60-90 seconds of the battle 2) Slow re-loading of the ship in the port screen after the battle is finished
  7. Admiral_H_Nelson

Did you get any British DD-missions from the containers?

I got the Acasta mission with the first RN container that I opened. (Many others have done this).I lost count of containers opened since (even paid for some) but no new missions. I finally finished the Acasta mission yesterday.and took it for a spin in Co-op. As it happened I got the top score but didn't enjoy the playstyle. (Yet another "marmite" RN ship, it seems) Post-battle I had a chat with clan mates and explained that I'd had enough and was now going to "rage quit". Before closing the client down I opened a new RN container.......and.....Drum Roll!...... I had won the Icarus mission! (Or as I prefer to see it, I have actually won: two free port slots + whatever I get in silver from selling the ships)

    What happens on Thursday?

According to the page about the Third Anniversary from Wargaming's official website (https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/sales-and-deals/three-more-years/) QUOTE World of Warships is Giving Presents For completing combat missions associated with the project's Anniversary you can receive festive containers each week: one container per day from Monday until Wednesday, and three containers per day from Friday until Sunday. Don't miss the opportunity to join us in celebrating! END-QUOTE So, Monday to Wednesday has one rule; Friday to Sunday has another rule. What happens on a Thursday?

    Anniversary Event

Those results are disappointing - I feel for you man! Have not collected my own "Not-so-super" containers yet for my tier X ships. What I really need is camo that gives Ship XP and/or credits. With hindsight, Wargaming made a mistake by raising expectations by giving good rewards when they introducing Supercontainers, then nerfing them since. (IIRC you cannot even get special upgrades from them anymore?)

    Royal Navy Arc

I can answer, hand-on-heart, "no". But thank you for enlightening me. I appreciate it. The only TV that I watch consists of programs about gardening and a few documentaries. I don't watch TV drama or those "never-ending-stories" the soaps. Don't get me wrong. I am not criticising TV. I think that TV is better now, with more choice, than it has ever been. There are just so many other things that I would rather do than watch TV.

    Royal Navy Arc

Great explanation, thank you! I said "all of a sudden" because even though I am an old, doddery retired git I had never seen the term "arc" used in the way that Wargaming have been using it i.e in the sense of "a series of events in conjuction with the release of new ships". I thought maybe that it was some new business bullcrap from America that I had not been exposed to because it came after I retired and left the corporate scene. Chaucer was a great storyteller and observer of human nature fair enough, but the English he used is somewhat strange to modern speakers. Example

    Royal Navy Arc

QFT And you know what? Whatever event replaces the Royal Navy Arc (*) will most likely have a similar structure because Wargaming think that they have a winning formula. An endless grind with the constant pressure to play higher tiers (because that generates revenue from the punters in order to finance it). The flavour of the game has changed a lot since I first joined in September 2015. It used to be pleasant, but now it is leaving a nasty taste. (*) Where does this word "arc" come from all of a sudden? I checked the dictionary and found: 1. a part of a curve, especially a part of the circumference of a circle. 2. a luminous electrical discharge between two electrodes or other points.

    CV Rework Feelings Poll

I have an open mind about whether the CV rework will be fun or not for me personally. I have no interest in flying planes around even with the most elementary controls (so that no more manual dexterity is needed than piloting a ship). However, I will try it and I might be pleasantly surprised. I'm sure than many will enjoy the new carrier gameplay, at least initially. This is not the CV Rework that I wanted, TBH. I wanted experienced CV players to have real power and input into a redesign that kept the RTS style but with a much better UI and a better balance between AA Defence and Carrier Striking power, instead of big discrepancies one way at low tiers and discrepancies the other way at high tiers.

    Tripple bonus for NEWCOMERS only?

WG want "old players" as supertesters for the same reason that they want married men - they fit the main requirement Both groups of people are used to having their advice totally ignored (EDIT - typo)

Best looking ship in the game - which is it?

    1) Scharnhorst 2) Prinz Eugen 3) Tirpitz 4) Mikhail Kutuzov

    Tripple bonus for NEWCOMERS only?

I can see the logic of special offers to attract new players. So, after they attract these new players, why do Wargaming then do their best to drive them away from the game with Tier 5 matchmaking?

    Anniversary Event

My situation is similar to yours. This time last year I did not have ANY tier X ships. However I have grinded my way to TEN of them because a) Loyalty rewards for Anniversary #1 and Anniversary #2 were based on number of battles and number of tier X ships b) I thought it was a good idea to get it out of the way c) Lots of missions events (e.g. Halsey, Sharks v Eagles) required high tier ships, or were easier with them

Cash refund for premium carriers after rework?

I've been consistent all along that the CV rework that I wanted to see was a revision of the current RTS gameplay (with experienced CV players drafted in to contribute to the re-design with real power). I've also consistently criticised the "AA Fortress", but also the fact that some ships have absurdly weak AA. ".. people who can't make them work are the ones calling them op." No. It is people who have been the victims of them, starting in the lower tiers who formed the idea in their minds that carriers are too strong. You are a fabulous player - strong in ALL classes, but significantly better in carriers. You have to remember that not everyone has your skills. Carriers are difficult to fight against when you have pitiful AA and all you can do is a few tricks to minimize the damage. Try to see it from the point of view of the average potato such as me who just wants to play the game to relax, and doesn't mind being beaten by a better player as long as I can get some heavy blows in of my own. (Which is vastly more difficult against a carrier, especially those with huge air groups). I've also repeated many times that in real life I love aircraft carriers, and have many books on the subject. Yet even people like me are uneasy about their current implementation in WoWS.
  21. I don't have the time to do anything except grind selected lines, play a few Ops, and play some premiums to get credits. Therefore the only silver ships that I actually want to keep for Ops or sentimental reasons are: Battleships - Lyon Cruisers - Budyonny, Charles Martel, Helena, Phoenix, German cruisers from tier 5 and upwards Destroyers - None I worked out that I need to sell some ships because I need the credits. So, looking at the OP question from the opposite angle, the most expendable ships are Japanese DDs, Russian DDs and British Cruisers.

    Updated Operation Dynamo

Guineas - yet another item where details are being hidden by Wargaming. Are there any references apart from this?: https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/public-test/bulletin-079/ "Another temporary resource—Guineas—can be obtained for active participation in the Royal Navy competition. On the live server, Guineas can obtain you a discount for the Tier VIII Premium destroyer Cossack. " It appears to me from what they say there that you don't get a free HMS Cossack . You just win a discount on the price. Oldest trick in the book. Bump up the price and then offer a discount to reduce the price to what you were going to sell it for anyway. Also, they don't give any indication as to what they mean by "active participation" - but I'm expecting yet another grindfest. (Excuse my cynicism @Nautical_Metaphor, but three years in this game does that to you! )

    Anniversary Event

Well said! In previous years we were told well in advance what Anniversary bonuses the players would be getting, and when. By playing this silly "We are keeping it a surprise" game, WG are treating us like kids. Well you know what? You treat us like kids then we will behave like kids. Old English saying: "You've made your bed, now lie in it."
  24. Good news! Yorck was the "problem child" for me in the German cruiser line. I like these buffs. I still have a 10-point captain in Yorck. Time to take the ship out of mothballs!
