Update 0.8.7: French Destroyers – Part 2
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Respectfully, I disagree. I suspect that you have "never had a problem playing T8s in T10 games, or T3 in a T5 game." because you are a good enough player to cope with it. in which case, respect. "The whole "MM = bad" thing is just a storm in a teacup . You do your best no matter what. It's as easy as that." I HATE being bottom tier. It sucks the fun out of the game to be the underdog. However, I find it tolerable if I can be "top dog" equally as much. It appeals to my British sense of fair play. I understand that some people think it unrealistic to expect that you can be top/bottom tier in equal amounts. If that is so then I consider the matchmaking fundamentally flawed. Maybe i should quit such a game? Maybe so, but if I do then i am sure that Wargaming will be glad that I quit AFTER I have spent so much on the game, rather than before. -
Update 0.8.7: French Destroyers – Part 2
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
"For example, for Tier VIII ships, the limits are expected to be 40% of battles with ships two tiers higher. This means that out of 20 battles you play with Tier VIII ships, a maximum of eight battles will include Tier X ships. " And in the other 12, you play against tier 9 ships. Not. Bloody. Good. Enough. If you are BOTTOM tier in 40% of battles then you should be TOP tier in 40% of battles also. The best players may cope with being bottom tiered in the majority of games at tier 8 (even relish the challenge to their skills) but for average players it is a bloody drag being the underdog so much. -
Supercontainers do seem a little bit rarer in 2019, but this is probably within the limits of variability of RNG. Since I got my first one in November 2016 I have received 39 - always opting for "More Resources". From the very simple spreadsheet that i use to log this stuff: - 16 Flags - 7 Mods (Now discontinued ) - 6 Camo - 3 Gold (in minor amounts) - 2 Free XP - 2 Premium Time - 1 Coal (15,000) - 1 Silver (% million in my very first container) - 1 Steel (useless because I don't collect it) Never got a ship, but if I did it would probably be the Krispy Kreme!

How happy are you with the game right now? Reddit shows a rather grim picture.
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I think that the last 12 months has seen WOWS some undesirable changes (too many grinds, OP premiums, lootboxes) - but is still very much better than the game that I started playing in Open Beta in 2015. The game though is not the problem. The problem is ME. I was drawn to WOWS due to my life-long love of ships. WOWS is the only online game that I have ever played. I expected to get to a certain "acceptable" standard. It has never happened and I've been in denial about it for ages - at the cost of much mental angst. As a result I have often projected my own failings onto being "Wargaming's fault". I took a long break a couple of years ago but still had unfinished business, for example I had not gained a single tier X ship. I came back, studied videos and "How to" tips, concentrated on Ops and Co-op, and grinded and grinded and grinded and finally completed 21 lines. In truth I have gone about as far as I can on my limited abilities, and cannot see a future. I was looking forward to French DDs, but they have proved a major let down (and I hate their "gimmicks" which are useless to me). I have a fear that the Italian fleet that I've waited for so long will also turn out to be a disappointment. The clan that I am in is very good and are thinking up some ways to get some freshness back for old gits like me - so I live in hope. -
Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) - The Balancing Nightmares....
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Gvozdika's topic in General Discussion
The main issue for me is this:- When it comes to balancing issues, Wargaming sets itself extremely low standards.......which it consistently fails to achieve.- 207 replies

Will you Reset in The Research Bureau
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Rhineheart_Thor's topic in General Discussion
No, I will not be resetting. For two reasons: 1) I am not interested in all these high-tier reward ships, 2) There is not a single line that I would want to go through the pain of grinding again -even with the help of my Free XP War Chest. Heck, thanks to WG's method of releasing new lines I only started some grinds at tier 6, 7 or 8! And they were bad enough. -
What ship did you instantly fell in love with and why? (Include your build)
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
I'm a little bit amazed (and also envious) of all of you who "clicked" immediately with a ship. I need to get used to each ship, even though some lines have a distinctly "deja vu" feeling as you move up the tiers) The closest that I have come to an instant like is "liked after a standard settling in period". There a Quite a few of those: Cossack; Daring Lyon, République, De Grasse Königsberg,Nürnberg, Hindenburg, T-61, Tirpitz, Bismarck, Scharnhorst Harugumo Budyonny Phoenix; (Tier6) Cleveland; Atlanta; Fletcher There are a few of course that I have disliked from the start, and that has matured with time into outright hate....but that is for another discussion. -
How did you do with the "French Whaling"?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Got Jaguar, Siroco, Guépard. First two quite effective, last one a nightmare. The coal was nice, but the tokens are now kind of irrelevant (see below) Apart from carriers got all the silver tree lines so far except Russian BBs (Tier 8) and French DDs. The French DD line is the first one that I will not bother to complete. Hate the gimmick and the playstyle that it brings. (But if you personally like them then I hope that you have many happy hours playing them ) -
How to Play French Destroyers Jaguar Review Guide
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Adm_Ballsey's topic in Destroyers
Another very enjoyable and informative video! APOLOGIES FOR THE WALL OF TEXT - BUT I FEEL RATHER FRUSTRATED AND NEED TO LET THIS OFF MY CHEST I watched this vide and the one that you did on the Guépard, and earlier I watched (and commented) on the Siroco video. Well I went ahead and got the Siroco so that I could do the mission to get 250 tokens. in the meantime I won the Jaguar and Guépard. I have all the available tier X DDs from the regular trees, so I was looking forward to completing the French line also (especially since - as I never tire of stating - I am an admirer of France in real life) There has been a very big "hiccup" I'm afraid. As you say the play style is not everyone's "cup of tea". As far as the Jaguar(the supplied 3 point captain) and the Siroco (16 point captain borrowed from a cruiser) the results have been quite effective, even if not particularly enjoyable. But Guépard has been a nightmare. Those Tier 8 cruisers murder it. The vaunted special damage system does not seem to help it at all. Whilst the guns are good for a comparable DD at the same tier, there is nothing as a gunboat that you can do in it that you cannot do better in a regular cruiser. The trajectory of the shells is also rather callenging for a gunfight. Carriers make your life a nightmare and when you do get into dog fights with enemy DDs the guns turn very slowly - almost like the old Russian DDs. If the rest of the line is like Guépard than it will be the first regular line that I will abandon (Apart from Carriers because of other issues which is a separate discussion). The fact that you can make all of these ships so well tells me that you own skill ceiling can cope with them. I think that there will be an awful lot of average players out there who get frustrated with them.- 3 replies

Research Bureau: New Rewards for Leveling Up
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
I think you might have the basis of a good idea there! The only thing that slightly worries me is the proposal to have unlocked the legendary module at tier 10 (it's a heckuva grind and keeps you playing at tier 10 - which is the opposite of what this idea from WG is supposed to be against) Just let people start collecting whatever they need for elite modules once they have elited the ship. -
Err.....wasn't encouraging more players to play CVs one of the main objectives( maybe even THE main objective)? Captain of RMS Titanic: "Well, we have failed in our main objective of crossing the North Atlantic.....but at least we have plenty of ice for our drinks!"

How to Play French Destroyers Siroco Review Guide
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Adm_Ballsey's topic in Destroyers
Thank you for your video. I enjoyed your comments and I find you pleasant to listen to in general! I will not be getting the Siroco, because (Surprise! Surprise!) I have real life commitments in August (which are far more pleasant to be honest) However I do have the Jaguar, which I won in a container.. I played 10 c-oop games to complete the mission that came with it (win 250 Republic Tokens). To me, this ship/line falls into the category of "Maybe good in Randoms, but certainly not in PvE". Reasons for those bored enough to wonder what I mean The French cruiser and battleship lines are nice. My views on the destroyers are unprintable. Still, as Meat Loaf said, "Two out of three ain't bad".- 11 replies

New French DDs event... Who s gonna bother with it?!
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
Thank you. I am not the only one to remember something of the case. As you say the main part of the prosecution's case was that "consent" did not cover these acts . The use of nails, I have hidden behind a spoiler to protect those of a nervous disposition. -
New French DDs event... Who s gonna bother with it?!
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
"fun" is a subjective concept. For some people, sandpapering their testacles is "fun" (And, yes, there was a court case in the UK about this several years ago) I should fit the perfect target profile for the French DDs. Completed both French lines and all DD lines except Panasia(only about 50k XP away from the tier 10). Of course I will give French DDs a little try when they come out, but I expect that I will abandon them fairly quickly. My guess is that their playstyle will more closely resemble Russian gunboats than Japanese torpedo boats. Not my cup of tea. OTOH if I change my mind I can always come to the forum to get tips on buying bulk supplies of sandpaper. -
