Some interesting info around the world

Well if we are going to prioritize the introduction of ships based on how handsome they are then get the Italians in! Subito!

POLL: Which ships are you waiting for the most?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Jutland (31st May 1916). A game using the "Ocean" map. The largest class of dreadnoughts in history - and one of the teams was German! No "tiers" in this game - but a few tears afterwards. Respect to ALL sailors who took part in the battle - from a Brit. -
So? How blatantly OP is the Kutuzov in 0.5.3 compared to the other Tier 8 Cruisers?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to MrFingers's topic in Archive
Making sense? . . . It's a perfect post! Clear & concise explanation of premiums in WoT, followed by great advice on a strategy for choosing premiums in WoWS. -
POLL: Which ships are you waiting for the most?

Well, when we vote to leave the EU in June (to the immense relief and understandable joy of the rest of Europe) they will probably expel ALL Brits from the EU Server - which will include all those hardcore RN fans of course. We'll probably have to join the NA server, and grind the ship trees from the beginning again while suffering terrible ping rates. -
The radar is coming ("Some interesting info from RU" & Reddit confirms this)...

Seeing the excellent comments in this thread, and noting the bugs, omissions from patch notes and the apparent inability for wargaming to decide whether realism or playability must be the most important factor ..... makes me think of this verbal exchange from the film "Chariots of Fire" between one of the Officials of an Athletics meeting and the professional coach Sam Mussabini. Official (to Sam Mussabini): "Well, to battle. I hope you enjoy the games." Sam Mussabini (as he walks away): "Games? You must be joking. I've seen better-organised riots." -
POLL: Which ships are you waiting for the most?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
I'd like to see something from a nation that is not represented yet (particularly Italy and/or France), instead of new lines from navies that already have at least one tree in the game. I understand the reasons for Russia getting preferential treatment in the introduction of new ships (The Russians may have more players than EU - but do they provide the most money per head to WG's bank account?). However, I think that introducing a second Russian line before the Italian or French navies get even their first line is taking it a bit far. -
That's a shame. You would have learned something. Still, if you want to continue to wallow in your ignorance AND then to boast about it then it's up to you. It's your loss.

"...we didn't have the time to put them in the patch notes. It happens sometimes." Yes it does - in incompetent "organizations". I have written patch notes in a commercial environment, and been the checker of the notes also. This reply is just garbage. All they had to do was place a paragraph at the end of the patch notes, with the title "Changes as a result of Public Testing feedback" and add one line. ONE FREAKING LINE! This would have been good for PR, because it shows them actually paying attention to Public Test results. And they "...didn't have the time to put them in the patch notes", followed by the slightly patronising " It happens sometimes." Class organizations would have said something like "We are sorry for this oversight and we have changed our procedures to ensure that this does not happen again". Wargaming have done this before - remember when AP got mysteriously nerfed a couple of months ago in another patch, by a change that they slipped in and did not document? -
Now, Cherry, please re-read post #89. You are reading far too much into it, based on private conversations. This is what actually happened: a) Forum member asserts that Mikhail Kutuzov has not been buffed in patch 0.5.3 b) My reply points to the entry in the patch notes that states that there WERE buffs to - range - rate of fire - turret traverse speed That is all I said. I pointed out some facts and MADE NO PUBLIC COMMENTARY ON THEM WHATSOEVER. Now, in reply you've posted some advice about the range buff. (Advice which I consider to be excellent, BTW.) So, even if we agree that the range buff is irrelevant it still leaves the other two. Does anybody believe that a better rate of fire and faster turning turrets are a bad thing? Especially since these attributes are very helpful in helping cruisers in their designated role of being a counter to DDs.

I see what you did there . . . .

Patch Notes: http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/cbt/update-053-release/ Quote: Mikhail Kutuzov: enjoyed an increase in rate of fire (from 6.75 to 7.5 rounds/min), firing range (from 15,910 m to 19,100 m) and turret traverse speed (from 5.4 degrees per second to 7.2 degrees per second). END-Quote Silly, Eh?

No-one knows anything for sure, but our best bet at understanding anything is to try to take proper measurements AND to try to understand the factors that contribute to the results that are observed. I am sure that you agree that this is a better approach than anecdotal evidence, personal preferences and guesswork. Consider the following: 1) Mikhail Kutuzov was withdrawn from sale before patch 0.5.3. The playerbase is therefore the same as before. 2) Mikhail Kutuzov was given three significant buffs in 0.5.3 at the same time that they were being withdrawn from other light cruisers. These were increased range, increase rate of fire, and faster turret traverse. In effect the old captains skills of BFT, AFT and Expert Marksman. 3) Post 0.5.3 Mikhail is performing significantly better (and Mogami worse) Now, I would say that it is entirely reasonable to say that 2) and 3) are strongly linked. Ship gets buffed, ship performs better. No s**t Sherlock. If you don't agree then God help us if your real-life job is as a detective in the Police Force! EDIT. Disclosure. I have all the Russian premiums that have been available for sale while I have been playing WoWS, and I LOVE the Mikhail Kutuzov! (even though I am mediocre at playing this beautiful ship)
-
Yes, the player base is different, but not in the same way that the base of Imperator differs. 1) Arkansas Beta was given to Beta testers who are (or d----d well should be) more experienced players by now.2) Imperator was on general sale, so any idiot such as me could buy it. (I buy all Russian ships that I can - Aurora, Imperator, Murmansk, Kutuzov). So Imperator will have a lot more BB noobs like me than Arkansas Beta, and we will drive the figures DOWN. For example, here are my pathetic tier 4 BB stats ( I suck at BBs which is why I gave up on them) Av Damage Ship Win rate (%) 34,698 Imperator 60 25,557 Myogi 44 23,283 Wyoming 41 Pretty much the same shape (at least in terms of damage dealing) as the general stats which I quoted previously. All the BB players that I have spoken to about this say that Imperator is easily the strongest Battleship at tier 4, but of course you are entitled to your opinion.

From post #672 in thread: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/31444-some-interesting-info-from-ru/page__st__660#topmost"Some interesting info from RU" Extract from the translation of the 0.5.3 bulletin thread on the RU forum. Q. Developers don't want to create "pay to win" situations, but what do you intend to do if this type of situation arises? Since your stance is "we don't nerf premiums", we can only watch when such situation arises, no? And you seem to have forgotten about the Nikolai. According to information kindly provided by ArdRaeiss, his winrate with Nikolai is 7-8% higher than with BB's of the same tier, and 10% higher than the battered Myogi. In my opinion, you should do something about it. What do you think? Your colleagues from WoT (yes, yes, I know that ships aren't tanks), when making premiums, kept a "security cushion" by introducing the principle of "premium machinery isn't as reliable". You don't have such cushion. How do you intend to implement new premiums, since experience has shown that you regularly make balancing mistakes with premium ships, so that they become seal-clubbers? A. Nikolai is no longer for sale. We don't plan to change its stats. In my opinion, it's a good and efficient ship, that is, most importantly, very competitive with BBs of its tier, which explains its popularity. Latest Stats from "Warships Today" Ship Battles Win% Av Damge Frags AC Frags Imperator Nikolai I 97,644 61% 43,820 1.2 0 Arkansas Beta 333,069 54% 35,343 1 0 Ishizuchi 145,772 51% 27,252 0.8 0.2 Wyoming 2,287,935 49% 27,704 0.7 0.5 Myogi 1,495,763 47% 22,289 0.5 0.6 Yeah....that looks......"competitive" BTW, Wargamings communication is beyond bad. They should be ashamed!Without the excellent work of Carnotzet () in translating this for us WE WOULD BE COMPLETELY IN THE DARK IN EU ABOUT ALL THIS.

Nürnberg sits too high in the water
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Unintentional_submarine's topic in Archive
Well done for raising this issue, ..... and for explaining it so well that a four-year old child could understand it (and maybe even Wargaming). -
An excellent, constructive suggestion.

+1 And while they are at it they can make Nürnberg sit lower in the water. Wargaming keep bleating about "realism" when it suits them to nerf 155mm guns. How about showing some respect for German ships by getting them to at least look correct. -
Yes - you are correct. I disable annotations! I shall make an exception for your videos because I don't want to miss useful information. Thanks for the tip!

Many Thanks for answering. I am a suscriber, but my username is not the same as my forum name! So to summarise the number of charges, so that even I can understand it: Hydro1 Hydro2 No Superintendent 2 3 With Superintendent 3 4 Hmm...the price of three skill points for one extra charge of Hydroacoustic Sonar per game looks a bit steep to me, but that's only my opinion.

They rely too much on headline statistics - and not what goes into producing them. They remind me of the old joke about statisticians: "A statistician is someone who puts his head in the oven, and his feet in the freezer, and says 'On average, I feel comfortable'" -
Give me a reason to up-tier WOWS! The problems we face..
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Redcap375's topic in General Discussion
I think that I generally agree with the OPs sentiments. I play the game for fun and I like a challenge, but it has to be manageable one. I don't find it fun feeling overpowered. OTOH I don't like the idea of seal-clubbing either (chance would be a fine thing with my limited skills). Being "average", I find the experience of tiers 4-6 just about right. I have good games and bad games (even being top scorer on rare occasions), but my average position in the scoring table would be 5 or 6. So I am not a burden to my team (with all the guilt that would bring), but I usually "do my bit". So I feel comfortable. I have 37 ships in port. 4 of them I have never played. I have all the ships that I want. I love light cruisers. I tried other types and did the grind through several tiers, but they just don't do anything for me. I only play Kuma, Phoenix, Murmansk, Königsberg, Nürnberg & Cleveland with any degree of regularity these days. (And I'm dropping Kuma after 0.5.3) The highest tier that I play is 8. I only play this tier with division mates because they want to. I can't play during prime time. Outside of prime time, tier 8 ships frequently get dragged into tier 10 battles. I don't enjoy these one bit. I respect and admire people with the skills to cope with them. -
Dear WG - Simple proposal for better Cruiser utilization vs. Destroyers - user directionable Fighter/Scout planes!
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I like this idea. It would make HIJMS Tone a very interesting ship indeed (it's already in the Tech Tree, if you have the mods installed to see it)- 9 replies

Oh - don't mind that. It's just our strange sense of humour. We find it funny to insult everyone - including ourselves most of all - with these absurd stereotypes. All human beings are unique individuals, but we have this nasty habit of labelling people. Understandably the targets of this do not find it the least bit funny. ON TOPIC: As I have stated in other threads, I would love to see Italian ships in the game. In fact I want to see as many interesting ships in the game as possible - from any nations. All the more so when they actually existed as REAL ships. I'd rather see some trees included from nations which do not yet have ships in the game, than more trees from nations which already have at least one tree (and premiums). It's fairer, and actually makes more commercial sense to give EU navies priority because it is overall a richer area and more lucrative market.

I saw that the thread had been updated so I made a cup of tea and sat down to enjoy the latest video. What a nice bonus - two videos! I like Königsberg. Out of all my cruisers - I get the most damage per game with this ship! (That is not saying a lot, admittedly) I liked the battle. You picked a good one, because it illustrated so many important points. How to use the torpedoes, how easy it is to lose health with just one mistake, the power of the AP rounds, and how difficult it is to steer in confined places. As soon as I saw that you were on the same team as Esa and mtm78 I knew what the result would be! (I felt sorry for that poor Sims at the start of the game being fired on by all three of you!) Wasn't this battle before patch 0.5.3? I think that the effects of 0.5.3 on Königsberg are very noticeable. I never used Advanced Firing Training on Königsberg, but I do notice the slower turret turn times, even with Expert marksman, and the reduction of rate of fire due to the nerf of Basic Firing Training. Notes & Queries 1) at 09:36 For upgrade 3 you take "Damage Control System Mod1" because you haven't notice losing propulsion or steering.- the thing is that I lose it ALL THE TIME (or did, before I took the "Last Stand" captain's skill)I think that this is because my playstyle (which sounds similar to the one that you recommend, BTW) . I usually get to 10km of the enemy then turn away and use the rear guns while retreating. This means that the closest thing to the enemy ships is the stern - and most of the enemy shells seem to land there! 2) at 08:40 you explain that you should use hydrocacoustic 2, which gives 4 charges. (you are using Premium repair also) That's OK. I understand that, but I get confused at 10:12. At 10:12 You state that by taking "Superintendent" as the level 3 Captain's skill you only get 4 hydroacoustic charges (not the 5 shown)However do you get 5 charges if you are using the premium consumable (which gives you 4 to start with)? If not then what is the Superintendent skill actually giving you? (BTW, I never intend to go beyond Nürnberg in the German cruiser line. I like her. She's a keeper. I tried out Yorck and Hipper in Public Test and didn't enjoy the playstyle, so I don't need to take Superintendent for "future proofing") I struggle to find a good level 3 captain's skill for light cruisers, TBH. I am weak at spotting torpedoes so I usually pick Vigilance. Vigilance is always active, unlike hydrocacoustic search, which is sometimes inactive due to cooldown. Murphys Law applies, and you find that the torpedoes come at you while hydrocacoustic is in cooldown!
