Ships what you want to game?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to general_tuhjani's topic in General Discussion
Neither of those two girls appear to have a nose! How do they smell? -
...but she's so slow that you hardly noticed!
-
You and me both. I've not got anywhere near the high XP mission ...and I still have premium! But this event has been really great.
-
Since I seem to find myself in violent agreement with what you post these days I am going to make a deliberate effort to be contrary! Yes. Put it into ranked battles. Not including it in ranked would be an admission that it spoils gameplay. Some of us don't play ranked battles. If us Randomites have to suffer bad weather, then so should those Rankers. (A sentence that I would like to have heard the late Roy Jenkins say out loud)

New branches ARE very slow in coming. We only see them "Once in a Blue Moon" (as the saying goes). You must be OK with that, with your monniker, surely?

#GrandNavalBattles Grand Naval Battles event thread (post your stuff here! instead of openening multiple threads)
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to havaduck's topic in General Discussion
Yes. That would be good - especially if it was one of the ships that fought in the Battle of Jutland. TBH I would like ANY mid-tier German premium. Every other nation (with a complete tree of ships) has a decent mid-tier premium. Germany is being left out unfairly! -
A really good, thought-provoking reply. "Even with a large sample size the results can still be heavily skewed depending on the kind of players playing them..."I agree 100% - this is one of the most important things to remember when trying to understand statistics. "The ARP Kongos and Texas heavily outperform their regular counterparts even though they are played often."This reinforces your previous point about "the kind of players playing them". To get the ARP ships you had to play a lot, or be a good player (or both). The player pool for ARP ships is therefore more skilled than the regular Kongo - an IDENTICAL ship let us remember - which explains their higher stats. So then we turn back to the Russian cruisers. They have consistently outperformed their rivals since introduction. We were told that the imbalance would drop once the better players moved up through the tiers - and I believe that it HAS dropped slightly - but they are still the best performers in most tiers (and by a significant margin in some cases). So....why? Unless we write the whole thing off to a freak of RNG there has to be an explanation for the stats. Is it that the Russian cruisers are mainly played by good players? Is it that they are particularly noob friendly? Is it that they are, in fact, stronger ships. A waiting world wants to know! ASIDE: The EU server stats mirror my own experience (only up to tier 6, with a few games at tier 7). I find Russian ships stronger and easier to play than their counterparts at each tier.

Poll - Should Situation Awareness Captain Skill be removed?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Agantas's topic in General Discussion
You've completely missed the point. I'm not talking about the usefulness (or lack of it) of the Situational Awareness skill in Cruisers & Battleships. I'm talking about the usefulness of the skill in DDs. A DD relying on stealth to get close enough to its target needs to know if it has been spotted. As soon as it is everyone within range usually opens up on you. The sooner that you know for certain that you are spotted then the sooner you can take evasive action. It's a life saver. You, personally, may not want to run SA on your destroyers. If that works for you then that's fine. But for the rest of us the opposite is the case (and that inclusdes every youtuber that I've ever watched from Flamu, iChase, Jingles onwards) Good Luck on the High Seas! -
Well, you are a DD player so of course you like weather. It makes no difference to a DDs detection, and even if you do get too close to your target and get detected then his allies will not be able to see you and help him. It feels different in cruisers, e.g. a Budyonny dragged into a tier 8 game. You blunder about in the dark because your team won't come and help you try to take a CAP point, and you suddenly encounter a T8 Battleship...then it's "gg".

Poll - Should Situation Awareness Captain Skill be removed?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Agantas's topic in General Discussion
Nah! Most relevant to DDs. Imagine the situation.... - You're in a Minekaze. You have camo, but not the level 5 Concealment skill. Torp Range = 7km, Your detection range = 6km. - You are stalking an enemy BB who is 10km away, and creeping closer (as you do) - Suddenly your Situation Awareness alert is triggered. - What does that tell you? (OK - what did it tell you BEFORE it all went haywire with patch 0.5.5) It tells you that someone even stealthier than you are has detected you! (Possible another Minekaze whose captain DOES have the concealment skill) - That's gold dust to a DD skipper -
For just one weeks figures, you are absolutely right. But we get these same results week after week after week. They can't all be outliers! I'm a huge fan of Russian ships. I've bought every Premium Russian ship that I can get my hands on - Aurora, Imperator Nikolai, Murmansk, Molotov, Mikhail Kutuzov - and even I am getting embarrassed by this imbalance.

HMS Victory was NOT one-shotted!
-
Brilliant post! Very well argued case. The key point for me: the ships are balanced (or at least WG try to balance them) without storm conditions. If storms are to become more prevalent then they need to be rebalanced to include the fact that they benefit some ship more than others. If storms remain only in one map ("North") as a gimmick then you can just about get away without rebalancing. What worries me about Patch 0.5.6 is that it is extending the range of ships that may me included on the wretched "North" map.

Ships what you want to game?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to general_tuhjani's topic in General Discussion
Any of these interesting ships would do me:- The Italian CA "Zara" Royal Navy CL "Ajax" The French CL "La Galissonnière" The Dutch CL "De Ruyter" -
I feel more positive about this patch than any previous patches (and I have looked forward to ALL of them, except the great cruiser nerf - 0.5.3). Just a couple of comments:- 1) 'Texas AA defences were reinforced.' Buffing Texas AA!? .....Blimey! 2) Maps.'Maps "North" and "Northern Lights" are now available for Tier VI-X ships.' Bill Hooks - that means I'll get dragged into more battles involving cyclones. I'll have to develop some sort of coping strategy for this weather, since whenever a cyclone hits the last thing that my teams seem to want to think about is "teamwork".

Someone forgot to adjust 'Situational Awareness' in 0.5.5
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to WhiskeyWolf's topic in General Discussion
You have been a strong advocate for finding out the truth of what is going on with the Situational Awareness issues, and a model of diplomacy while doing so. As the saying goes "You've played a blinder" -
Thanks for posting this. When the Indianapolis was announced as a Tier 7 Premium, I thought that I would be certain to buy it. Now, I am not so sure. I need all the information that i can get. I already have Atlanta and Texas, and they are not what i am really looking for as a crew trainer for the USN. If not Indianapolis, then what? The Marblehead (a fine ship in many ways) does not appeal to me at all. I am not comfortable with ships whose main battery is inferior to its rivals (that's just me).

I notice that there is a new permanent camo for USS Cleveland. My Cleveland has the "old" Red-White-Green permanent camo that was available for purchase around Christmas and New Year time. Presumably I will be able to keep this camo?

Too much information! MIND BLEACH! -
at 08:30-08:52, iChase makes the case that the Indianapolis ideally needs a Captain with the level 5 "Concealment Expert" skill. (This skill is useful for most ships of course, but some need it more than others). Maybe iChase is correct - maybe he isn't. I don't know. However I respect his knowledge of the game, which is far greater than mine. But if he IS correct, then this doesn't look so good as a captain training ship to me. I'm disappointed, TBH.

Should Wargaming provide a "Gameplay Rule Book"?
Admiral_H_Nelson posted a topic in General Discussion
TL;DR - Should Wargaming publish the rules of the World of Warships game online? WHY THIS POLL? World of Warships is the only online game that I have ever played. I discovered it by accident by stumbling on some gameplay videos on Youtube. Almost everything that I have learned about the game has come from forum questions, third-party websites, and Youtube videos. The other day someone asked a question about radar in another thread on this forum. I remembered that there was something in one of the patch notes and copied and pasted a reply to the same thread. Players should not have to trawl through patch notes IMHO to get these answers. There is currently a lively debate going on in other threads about "Situational Awareness" and how the playing experience of this feature is undoubtedly different after patch 0.5.5. There is no reference material that either side in this debate can point at to act as the definitive statement on how it SHOULD work. MY PROPOSALS 1) I believe that players need an authoritive single-point-of-reference to look up all the data about the game and the mechanics of how everything works. This should be online, attached to the Wargaming website (or maybe the wiki). This will form the "Gameplay Rule Book" 2) The guide must be kept up-to-date with all changes introduced by the latest patches. 3) There must be a mechanism for players to bring to the attention of Wargaming any omissions or improvements which they feel are needed to the "Gameplay Rule Book". -

Given what I have read above, this is my estimate of the maximum number of diamonds that can be achieved from just missions, assuming:- 1) There will be 5 weeks of "weekly" Wednesday-to-Wednesday missions 2) There will be 4 weeks of the Monday-to-Monday 100,000 XP mission 3) Missions for weeks 4 & 5 give at least as many diamonds as week 3 Diamonds Mission 500 Permanent Missions 80 Weekly 100,00 XP mission (4 weeks worth) 80 Complete all 4 week 1 missions 100 Complete all 4 week 2 missions 120 Complete all 4 week 3 missions 120 Complete all 4 week 4 missions (see assumption 3 above) 120 Complete all 4 week 5 missions (see assumption 3 above) --------------------------------------- 1120 Total -

Well, I'd like to have a go with her, but I haven't done ANY of the destroyer mission for this week yet, and I am going to be busy at the weekend (Blast! real life getting in the way of WOWS!) I'll try and get the DD stuff done Monday & Tuesday, then make a start on the Tier 8 stuff. Good Hunting on the High Seas! -
Fear not. You will be able to buy Marblehead in game soon. See post #21 in thread: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/51772-premium-ships-added-to-tech-tree/ BTW i loved you phrase about Indianapolis . . ."Diet Pepsi". I laughed out loud!

You are right. It's like a Protestant and a Catholic trying to convert each other. They'll never agree. ON TOPIC. Upthread I posted that I'd been persuaded to try out the Tier 7 German cruiser "Yorck" because this week the challenge involved Tier 7 ships. I have now completed the grind! All 114000XP of it - which for a casual player is not bad going. (I've played a lot more battles this week). As a result I will now be able to buy the T8 Cruiser "Admiral Hipper" and save myself over a million in silver. I may not have many diamonds (200) but I sure have gained a from this event.
