Suggestion against frustration: MM and the chances of being bottom and top tier.
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to havaduck's topic in General Discussion
I often have plenty of worth to say, and I frequently get "like" for my posts. Even on this thread, I have "likes". So don't try to belittle me. For the benefit of everyone else on this thread who does not want to read an argument between just the two of us I am more than happy to discuss this further with you - but offline via the mail system. However, I don't feel as if it would do any good. I feel that your mind is closed on the actual topic of this thread, i.e. the frustration caused by the current matchmaking and the frequency unbalance between being top tier and bottom tier. -

This is just a hunch, but I reckon that WG may have planned this event to coincide with the anniversary of the St. Nazaire raid back in March. IIRC the Campbelltown was not ready for release at that time, due to testing delays or something.

Ah! The old pathetic "I was only joking" excuse, when you get pulled up for something. It won't wash, mate, I don't believe you. As for your claim that you are not a DD specialist, I'll just leave this here. Another Duck. 2755 Battles 1691 in DDs 0605 in Cruisers 0448 in Battleships 0001 in a CV. I stand by what I said. Good players of WoWS do not appreciate how tough this game is for those who are not good, and are too critical of their protests. To be fair you are NOT the only one to do this, but you happened to be the one in this thread who was "visible". Therefore you get the flak. (EDITED FOR TYPOS) -
I understand that WG wanted us to play IJN Battleships on the PT server. They don't have to tell me their reasons for wanting the data that they get from this - but I am sure that is important to them (and the game), hence the incentive of giving Premium time. Therefore I did my bit and played all the battleships. Next, I started playing cruisers because WG are considering changes in cruiser play (specifically radar) and wanted the players to test them. I was interested in the IJN and Russian lines myself. I have given up. There is no point trying to play cruiser in these BB heavy matches. (You want to try the Furutaka in a tier 7 match. . . . . or rather, you don't) When someone "rage quits" the live game there is no point them posting the fact on the forum - just leave! I think that it is different on Public Test. I think that it is useful for WG to know why someone would want to quit. P.S. With the Campbelltown challenge now started, and limited playing time, this only reinforces my decision.

US Version... "Captain, cyclone approaching from the west. It packs a fair punch." "Does it now? I'll teach it to mess with Murica - Open Fire!"

Excellent post! (Just one salute isn't nearly enough) I wouldn't normally want to plough through a wall of text, but seeing it was a respected forum poster I gave it a go. I was glad that I did. A very good analysis of the drawbacks of the Epicenter mode, especially on the lack of reward for capping.....plus, some very good original though on possible new modes for WoWS. Great Job!

[edited] You said earlier in the thread (in post#23): "I want the T6 ships back into the T4 spread as well, if that's what you're saying. And I'm totally not just saying that because I want to be able to shoot at T6 ships in Isokaze." You can cope with being low tier better than most because you are a good player. In fact, (dare I say) a very good player in IJN Destroyers, which is the class that can cope best with higher tier opposition. Well by definition most of us don't fall into the category of good players, no matter how hard we try. Just think yourself lucky and stop looking down on those less gifted than yourself as whiners. Let me be clear. I DO NOT OBJECT TO HAVING TO PLAY AGAINST HIGHER TIER OPPOSITION. What I object to is the unbalanced frequency of doing so which has been built in to the game by the MM changes. If I were a new player I would have given up at tier 5 by now. -
To all those players who are fans of Aoba let me say this. -- I think that Aoba is a very good ship indeed. She is a good all-rounder, with the heaviest hitting guns of all tier 6 cruisers. She is every bit as good (if not better) than the USS Cleveland at the same tier (6) that many people love and used to be called "OP". -- Aoba is also a very handsome ship IMHO, though I accept that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". -- A few months back I did a replay of Aoba and did significantly better in her than the first time around - though that is admittedly not saying much. And yet . . . and yet . . . . don't hate me for saying this ... but I find her no fun at all. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but I don't enjoy any of the Japanese ships except Kuma. The funny thing is that before I actually started playing WoWS I would have put money on IJN ships being my favourites!

World of Warships, in a nutshell
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to fnord_disc's topic in General Discussion
*LIKED* You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day -
OK. You are a good player - we get it! Seriously, though, even a noob in BBs such as me (not just in BBs - Ed.) got up to tier 9 in one extended evening session. And that was with me spending some time messing about with the armour viewer.

But as well as "- being sometimes perceived as less of a threat and getting less flak" there is also the attitude shown by players in the higher tier ships of "Oh! Look! - a weaker lower tier ship. Lets focus on it as an easy kill" I'm a cruiser player so I will be accused of bias, but I think that cruisers in general have a harder time of it as bottom tier, especially when there is a -2 difference in tiers. DDs can still use their stealth in any game, for example. Indeed they may even be STRONGER in that regard than the higher tier DDs that they are facing. OTOH a regular tier 5 cruiser will find tier 7 cruiser a very tough opponent, with better range and harder hitting, accurate guns. Yes, I know that good players can make any ship work, and that it's a "challenge". But I am only an average player, and there is only so much of this "challenge" that I can take in a session before I get fed up. -
Regarding the reduction of radar cooldown . . . I think that it would make three radar-equipped cruisers in a division (and using something such as Teamspeak to communicate with each other) almost overwhelmingly strong against DDs. I get the feeling that WG try to balance the game for Solo players. However, what makes a solo player "balanced" can make a division a bit too strong IMHO. DDs sharing the setting up of a mutual smoke screen is another example that springs to mind.

When I posted last night about the "Epicenter" mode (see above) I was really, really annoyed. I've calmed down a bit after a good night's sleep.. Actually, IsoA, fair play . . . . you make a very good point. In Kawachi, South Carolina, Nassau it can be chaotic fun to play this Epicenter mode. It fits in with the mindset of the early tiers.

My feelings exactly. I've read a lot of supportive comments about cyclones on the forum in recent months, but even those who like the feature wanted better notification. I like the way that cyclones are introduced on the PT server - your team get plenty of time to prepare themselves (that's if they want to of course)
-
Excellent point, IMHO. I've been testing for hours on PT (up to Izumo now), and this is EXACTLY what I have found. What sort of useful data are the devs going to get from matches with 10 BBs a side + two token "others"?

This is Ridiculous! Undismissable ARP Captains clogged up my barracks
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
Very good ideas there. Let's face it, there is already extra coding in place to handle ARP captains in a special way, so it should not be difficult to add a bit more code to implement your suggestions. -
I'm a cruiser player. I've been playing the German BB line because I like the German cruisers and wanted to see if the Battleships were good to play. I'm just an average player, but in my most recent game in the König I obtained the highest damage total that I have ever achieved in a single game. It was nothing spectacular by the standards of the famous Youtube experts, but it included 4 kills and two "close quarters expert" awards. (and this was in match where I was bottom tier!) A remarkable ship - when even tomatoes such as me can get results from it!

I wouldn't put it quite like that, but I also do have a problem with the "ORANGENESS", as you call it. I find it very difficult to see things on the map, even though I have messed about with the monitor settings, and I have had my eyes tested professionally. I don't have any visibility problems with any other maps. The layout of the "Land of Fire" map, in terms of islands, size, placement, cap zones etc is PERFECTLY FINE AS IT IS!

I started to log my Random Battles statistics into a database after Patch 0.5.3. These statistics include data on the maps for each battle. There are 571 battles in my database, so it is a reasonable sample size. My most played maps are Strait (88 battles), Fault Line (85), New Dawn (76) and Two Brothers (63). Fault Line is a disaster for me. - My Win rate is only 36.5% on this map. My win rate on all the other maps combined is 54.5%. - My average damage is only 90% of my average for all maps.Yet I have been top tier for 34 battles and bottom tier for only 24. The only other really poor map for me is Land of Fire. - 35.7% win rate in 28 battles. - My average damage is only 71% of my average for all maps. - In partial mitigation, I have only been top tier in 1 battle (!) and bottom tier in 15

Pick your votes for the sexiest ship ingame!
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Snowy_a's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough! I come to the game from a different angle. I only play World of Warships - no other game - and I do so because of my passion for ships. However, we are all different. Nobody's reason for play is superior to anyone else's. Each to their own. But it WAS a humorous comment - though I appreciate that this does not come over so well in written communication as when spoken face-to-face. -

Eh? You have stumbled onto this forum by mistake. You must be playing some other game . . . "World of Cruise Liners" maybe? -
I really can't see how any camo other than the one used for Operation "Rheinübung" could be the official one for Bismarck (other than the inclusion of the Swastika - I understand that restriction). It is the camo that I always picture her in, and I am sure that all other ship fans feel the same. Plus (and I say this as a Brit), it can be viewed as a tribute to the brave sailors of the ship who fought so hard against such odds in its final battle. Come on WG - forget the money for once and do the right thing!
