The "Birthday Achievements": here is a list of how to unlock each achievement, and the rewards..
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
This is a cute little guessing game! I know that WG did a tie-in deal with Arpeggio. Have they done one with "Cluedo" now? ("It was Warspite using AP in Cap A that killed the enemy ship") -
The new "Epicenter" battles are going to divide opiion very strongly, I believe. Rather like cyclones, and for similar reasons. But overall, a lot gets fixed in this release, and the armour viewer is very interesting. Remember to turn the ships plating display off to see it in its full glory.

Lay off LilJumpa! I like the posts @LilJumpa makes on the forums and his spotting mechanics guide has been very helpful to me (http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/49421-new-spotting-mechanics-guide-rework-patch-055/), so I think its a bit harsh to single him out for criticism here. "...so they simply don't know what they are talking about." Actually, I think the problem is that the both sides in this dispute don't know what the other side are talking about. 1) Good players, and especially good players in ships that are not so affected by the +2/-2 Matchmaking (such as IJN destroyers, and certain battleships), simply cannot see what all the fuss is about because they personally can cope with it. Sure they notice it - everybody does - but they are good enough to cope. 2) Not-so-good players, and especially those in ships that seem to be strongly affected by the +2/-2 Matchmaking (Atlanta in a Tier 9 game on the Ocean map is becoming a cliche by now), simply cannot understand why good players cannot have sympathy for their struggling in these games. My own experience I do not have a problem with the +2/-2 Matchmaking rule. I do have a problem with the way that this is no longer balances to give you roughly equal games at top tier and bottom tier. My own experience since returning to the game after a long Summer layoff mirrors what others are reporting. At Tier 5 I have played 26 games. Only 8 have been top tier and 18 bottom tier (12 of which were T7 games). In 10 of those 18 games I managed to get into the top half of the scoring table for my team - but it was living off scraps, and it was rarely "fun". (figures from my database) But, like I said, I don't mind that provided that I get to be top dog in roughly equal measure - that is the irritating part. -

Super response! I was trying to think up a response along those lines - but I can't improve on the way that you have explained the situation. Excellent!- 52 replies

WoWS Anniversary event, NA already gave a reminder well in advance, check info and grind if necesarry.
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
Just for reference - the official EU announcement page http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/common/wows-1st-bday-achievements/ To celebrate World of Warships' first year on the high seas, we've got a set of brand-new, event exclusive achievements! It's hard to believe it's a been a full year since World of Warships set sail on its maiden voyage. In that time we've seen Project R, several tech trees were added across 4 nations (most recently the addition of German Battleships along with the iconic Bismarck) and we even partnered with ARPEGGIO Of Blue Steel -ARS NOVA- to bring some refreshing missions, brightly-camouflaged ships and extra content. Well, we are in a celebratory mood and we have a great new addition for you: a new type of achievement has been added to World of Warships—event achievements. Exactly what it says on the tin, these achievements will only be available for the duration of our birthday celebrations. There is a twist though: while you will be able to see the achievements, you won't be told explicitly how to unlock them – just think of them as covert achievements. This will all be about teamwork, so make sure to keep an eye on the forums and social media to see if someone has found a solution for any and all of the achievements, and, if you're lucky enough to earn one yourself, share the knowledge with your fellow Captains! The event will run from 8 September until 19 September, so start preparing now! You will be able to check your progress on the portal. When you earn an achievement, the icon will no longer be greyed out like in the picture above. Along with earning these exclusive achievements, if enough people earn them the icon will turn gold. If you log in to the game once the achievement turns gold, you can expect great rewards! Also, on top of that, you will earn in-game goods just for completing any achievement, so get ready to do some reward hunting! If you've played over 500 battles, you will get a collection of Dragon flags (see below) and if you have one or more Tier X ships, you'll get some extra ones thrown in! 10 Dragon Flags + A Commemorative Birthday Flag for everyone who wins a battle from 16 September to 19 September 500 battles: 50 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 1,000 battles: 100 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 2,000 battles: 150 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 3,000 battles: 200 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 4,000 battles: 250 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 5,000 battles: 300 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 6,000 battles: 350 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 7,000 battles: 400 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned 8,000 battles: 450 Flags and 50 for each Tier X owned Here's to many more years! I was watching a youtube video by iChase the other day (some game replay or other). He said during the video that he was going to revise his Captain's Academy series because the game had changed so much since he first produced them. He explained that he wasn't talking about a few tweaks but a major re-write. IIRC we can expect to see something before Christmas. Whatever you think about iChase, I think that the revised Captains Academy will be worth watching, even if only as a refresher for non-noobs.

World of Battleships - what are Cruisers players currently doing?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
I feel empathy with what you say about Kiev, but I urge you not to give up on the Russian line. The guns are amazing, and the next ship after Kiev - Budyonny - is relatively tanky when angled. I love the Russian cruiser line. It's my favourite line. I'm pretty average for each of the ships that I have played, but I can't make Kirov work either. My stats (don't laugh) Ship Av damage Shchors 50225 Svietlana 46753 Bogatyr 46521 Molotov 40783 Budyonny 39785 Murmansk 37540 Kirov 31842 -
Thanks Kelarion. I like the sound of the Nagara! Fingers crossed that it makes it into the game.

I don't know anything about ARP stuff, but it seems a good idea generally. I think fans of the underlying product have been very happy with it. So good job Wargaming. I know that these are highly-rated and popular ships by a big majority of players, but are there any ships apart from Kongo or Myoko? Don't kill me for saying this but (sadly) I am not one of the majority. I don't get on with them at all. Grinded them - then threw them aside, I'm afraid. Isn't there anything like a Kuma or Fuso that could be offered - or are these not part of the ARP universe (just Kongo and Myoko)?

You want to know what is really funny? Here in Britain, our name for the French town of Dunkerque is "Dunkirk". And what does that name conjure up to us - the biggest ever retreat in British military history. Apparently there is going to be a film about it next year. "Dunkirk is an upcoming British epic action-thriller film written, co-produced and directed by Christopher Nolan. The story is set in World War II and centres around the Dunkirk evacuation." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunkirk_(2017_film)

Konigsberg after 50 games (damage per game)
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to AceScottie's topic in Cruisers
(Data taken from my own Database, where I log the main results from each battle that I play) Since I returned to the game in August after my long Summer layoff, I have played 22 games with Tier 5 ships. I have been bottom tier in 16 battles and top tier in 6 battles. When bottom tier I was -2 in 10 battles, and -1 in 6 battles. I'm struggling! ON TOPIC: I don't usually play Königsberg any more, but I did yesterday (prompted by this thread). 5 matches. 5 defeats. Top tier 1 battle. Bottom tier 4 battles. ( 3 of them at -2) 25,236 average damage, against my overall total in the ship of 35,697 For me. shells seem to just bounce of German BBs - but still hurt US and IJN ones. I am probably doing it all wrong. -
Is WG taking into account the "RealLifeTime (TM)" requirement to successfully fulfill the weekly "Boot Camp" mission?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Wonderful post! I completely agree with your general approach but I will treat the Campbeltown mission as a special case, though. I estimate that it will take me 120 to 130 games to finish the Cambeltown challenge (based on current progress and my stats). Lets say 125. To get 12 skill points by grinding the Royal navy cruiser line I would need 229,900 XP. For me, this would take between 153 and 209 games (us "average joes" don't score that highly in games), Lets say 181. So, in getting a 12 point Captain via the challenge I'll be saving myself over 50 games, plus getting a port slot, plus a ship (which I can sell if I don't like it), plus silver doubloons along the way.- 34 replies

Upcoming Tier IX permaflages
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to OopsIPennedYouAgain's topic in General Discussion
Well, I didn't start any threads about it but I did complain at the time of the great cruiser nerf with Patch 0.5.3 (The one that took away the benefit of Basic Firing Training, Advanced Firing Training and Expert marksman from guns over 140mm). I had bought permanent camo for the Nürnberg because it was a relatively successful ship for me, and I thought that I would keep it for ever. However, since 0.5.3 my stats in it have dropped alarmingly in terms of damage, kills,XP, K/D ratio, Survival Rate, and Win rate. After 22 unpleasant games I threw it aside. I know that WG have to make changes and rebalance the game from time to time, but I felt pretty sore about that particular nerf. I've learned my lesson. I'll buy no more permanent camo.- 44 replies

Many people say that the Pensacola guns are very good indeed compared to other tier 7 cruisers. Since many of the people saying this have credibility with me, I believe these claims. Tier 7 has another US heavy cruiser - the Premium "Indianapolis". (And the light cruiser "Atlanta", of course, whose guns are obviously very different in nature) Are the guns roughly the same in both Pensacola and Indianapolis, or are there significant advantages/disadvantages for one ship over the other? (Apart from the obvious fact that Pensacola has 10 guns, and the Indianapolis only 9)

enough with the cyclones. they suck.
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to kolloth's topic in General Discussion
I'm surprised that none of the famous Youtubers have made up a video yet along the lines of "Tips in dealing with a cyclone". If they actually have, could someone post a link please? TIA. -
chapayev, what is it good for?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to chaosrealm93's topic in General Discussion
Another wise post from your good self. (I just gave positive feedback on another post of yours. I'll have to stop before something thinks that I am a stalker or something!) That's why I recently decided to up the progress grind at Tier 7, after toying with the idea for ages. I actually have Chapaev in port, but unplayed, and with no captain assigned. I have limited playing time and have reached my skill ceiling. No longer a "seal" but not good enough to be a "clubber". I can either have fun at tiers 4-6 being more-or-less competitive, or carry on grinding through the tiers getting more and more overmatched. I choose fun! -
Your top 3 ships and worst 3
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to anonym_EFwxJOPWzlER's topic in General Discussion
Some very good insights there. Thank you for taking the time to respond, and for offering such a plausible explanation. Much appreciated I'll go away and think seriously about what you have posted. -
Your top 3 ships and worst 3
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to anonym_EFwxJOPWzlER's topic in General Discussion
In no particular order. BEST: Budyonny, Murmansk, Phoenix Win or lose, they are a joy to play. WORST: Furutaka, Aoba, Myoko It saddens me to say this. I admire & respect Japan in real life. But this is only an arcade game, after all. These are good ships and also rather handsome, I think. I replayed the first two recently and improved my play in them significantly. However, I find them zero fun to play. I don't know why. I thought it might be that I liked light cruisers so much that I didn't like cruisers with bigger guns. However, I played Yorck and Indianapolis at the same time and found them OK. I am utterly baffled. -
In this game, WG implement this hierarchy of power (allegedly) Battleships > Cruisers > Destroyers > Battleships i.e. The old "Rock-Paper-Scissors" concept. Yet according to the votes, we think that Battleships are the most powerful, but we pick cruisers as our favourite class to play. We must be masochists!

WG are missing a trick here. A "try-before-you-buy" scheme would be useful to a lot of people (maybe even the OP in this case) For a nominal fee you could get to try out a premium ship for a whole day. They could disable personal stats for the ship at the same time, to reduce risk of abuse. Either that - or make premiums available on the Public Test (they are not on the current one). An issue with doing it via PT, though, is that everyone may rush to just play Premiums. Jjust like now everyone seems to be in Battleships! ON TOPIC: One thing in the Dunkerque's favour is its unique layout, which make it interesting. This means that is refreshingly different - some might say challenging. The main drawback for me is that it is not so immediately useful in training captains, whereas the German ships are. But I got it anyway.

Fail Division still - T5 in a T8 game - Thought WG stopped it?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
IMHO Wargaming have done the best that could be done to reconcile:- a) the desire of friends to play together in division b) A fair spread of tiers in matchmaking for an individual battle (with special rules for carriers and ships below tier 5 ) If you enter a division with ships with a higher tier than your own then you VOLUNTARILY accept the risk that you will get dragged into matches which are +3 tiers higher. Wargaming are not forcing you to do this.
