Will the RN cruiser make high tier battles worse?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
I've spent a small fortune on this game - literally hundreds of pounds. If this info about RN cruisers is true then they have had the last pound from me. It's "Play-for-free" from now on. And with the money saved I can buy pitchforks and torches. -
König: Bad ship, bad player or victim of tier 5 MM?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to thestaggy's topic in General Discussion
Fair comment ....but would you would think same if MM wasn't screwed up? Isn't the unfavourable matchmaking the major cause of your dislike in this case? -
What comes after RN cruiser line?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to SomeoneYouKnow2's topic in General Discussion
You are perfectly correct! I was thinking of this scenario: a) RN Cruisers Version 2 is released for testing (Supertest) b) WG evaluate test results and don't like that either. c) German DDs go to test, and look to be OK with a few tweaks. d) German DDs go on Public Test while WG design RN Cruisers Version 3 e) German DDs pass Public Test examination, and get scheduled for release to the live game f) RN Cruisers Version 3 is released for testing (Supertest) ...and if that doesn't work either then heaven knows what they do next! -
Will the RN cruiser make high tier battles worse?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
Perfectly argued, Sir! Perhaps when there get to be too many BBs in the queue, the MM could set up 12 v 12 All-Battleship games to bring the numbers down. No carriers, no destroyer torpedoes, no HE spam from cruisers. It would be heaven for some forum posters. -
What comes after RN cruiser line?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to SomeoneYouKnow2's topic in General Discussion
If the rework of the RN Cruiser line is difficult (and I suspect that Wargaming will move very carefully on this), we could even see German DDs arrive BEFORE them in the game. We mustn't assume that the same team are working on both lines - it could be different teams (probably is). -

Closest that I can think of where British Battlecruisers hunted down enemy (armoured) cruisers was the Battle of the Falkland Islands in 1914. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Falkland_Islands The Battle of the Falkland Islands was a British naval victory over the Imperial German Navy on 8 December 1914 during the First World War in the South Atlantic. The British, after a defeat at the Battle of Coronel on 1 November, sent a large force to track down and destroy the victorious German cruiser squadron. Admiral Graf Maximilian von Spee—commanding the German squadron of two armoured cruisers, SMS Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, the light cruisers SMS Nürnberg (1906), Dresden and Leipzig, and three auxiliaries—attempted to raid the British supply base at Stanley in the Falkland Islands. A larger British squadron—consisting of the battlecruisers HMS Invincible and Inflexible, the armoured cruisers HMS Carnarvon, Cornwall and Kent, the armed merchant cruiser HMS Macedonia and the light cruisers HMS Bristol and Glasgow—had arrived in the port the day before. -
Konigsberg after 50 games (damage per game)
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to AceScottie's topic in Cruisers
Yeah - but that is Flamu driving the ship. You could give him a row boat and an air rifle (AKA the "Karlsruhe"), and he would still be top scorer in a Tier 10 game! (He would probably struggle in the upcoming RN cruiser line though.) -

You are too modest - it was mainly because you are a good player in a useful ship. (sincere) If you had swapped ships with one of the enemy tier 6 cruisers, then I am sure that you would have sunk the Aoba!

REQUEST for Premium Ships (wishlist)
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
An Italian ship in the game is long overdue. This was a significant 20th Century navy which can provide ship trees with far less paper than the *ahem* Russians. As a cruiser guy I'd love to see some real Italian cruisers - the most handsome ships ever. (Never mind those Russian wannabes) -
"Player skill has a much greater impact."Absolutely! But more so when talking about GOOD players. However, just considering cruisers for a minute.A good player in a tier 5 cruiser can negate (or even surpass) the advantage that an average player has in a tier 7 cruiser. However an average player in a tier 5 is obviously at a disadvantage against a same-skill player in a tier 7.As for an average player in a tier 5 versus a good player in a tier 7 (my situation when in a tier 5) .... [sHUDDER] . . . it doesn't bear thinking about. But this is OK, provided that I get roughly equal games as low tier/high tier. Trouble is we don't at tier 5.

Judging by the recent events at Wargaming in abandoning the original concept behind the Royal Navy Light Cruiser line, and the half-baked ideas for alternatives (conceived on the bag of a fag packet) that they are putting forward as alternatives . . . . I'd say that the RN Aircraft Carrier line will be unique in having ZERO planes, but really good AP shells for its guns.

König: Bad ship, bad player or victim of tier 5 MM?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to thestaggy's topic in General Discussion
My own stats are pretty similar to yours, even though I don't consider myself a natural Battleship player. (T5 Texas substituted for T5 New York) Texas: 62.5% win rate, 40,393 DPG, 50% survival rate PLAYED USING THE OLD MATCHMAKINGKongo: 52.0% win rate, 36,031 DPG, 64% survival rate PLAYED USING THE OLD MATCHMAKINGKönig: 52.64% win rate, 44,650 DPG, 47% survival rate All played with the NEW matchmaker. 19 battles. 4 times top tier, 0 games mid tier (naturally-it cannot be mid tier), and 15 times bottom tier (6 battles at -2). I cope very badly with being bottom tier, but I cope with it in König better than most - so I would say it was a good ship, and the tier 5 matchmaking is getting beyond a joke. -

After ARP, a new anime collaboration has been announced: "high school fleet"
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
As I have said before, I know very little about anime except: a) It gives many players a lot of pleasure to have it included in the game b) It does NOT ADVERSELY AFFECT ME one little bit. The only thing that puts me off participating enthusiastically in the challenges are the particular ships - and these are the product of Wargaming, not the fault of anime! I have three Kongo-class ARP ships sitting in port. I am (sadly) not a fan of Kongo, Myoko or higher tier ships. (Yes, I know that I am weird since these are good ships which are very popular with the players). Someone mentioned "Nagara" to me as being an ARP ship which looks very interesting, but I doubt that we'll ever see her. But for all those that want to do the missions to get the new ships - HAPPY HUNTING AND GOOD LUCK! -
OP It has been explained to you several times why the Matchmaker has to use the highest tier of a division that contains ships of different tiers. This is to stop people manipulating the matchmaker to their advantage. Do you understand this - Yes or No? If "No" then I can attempt to explain it to you one more time. If "Yes" then please stop trolling. Thank You.

Great work in creating these tables so that the ship data can be compared easily. After compliments to the poster, the rant against Wargaming begins.... Yes, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating", but given the fact that RN cruisers are NOT going to be delivered with the features that were promised when they were announced (e.g. smoke) then the Leander is the last Tier 6 cruiser that I'd want to take to battle. A Budyonny would murder it, and the Leander wouldn't even be able to outrun it even with speed boost! Not to mention the thought of being caught by the Tier 6 Premium Russian cruiser "Molotov" with it's 180mm high-tier railguns. (Speed 36 kts) This RN cruiser fiasco is a "double whammy". I'm fine with WG saying that there are issues in testing the RN cruisers, and that they need to delay their introduction while these are sorted out. That is why you do testing, after all. What bothers me is the off-the-cuff, half-baked, not-thought-through garbage coming from official sources talking about going for useless junk gimmicks such as speed boost (which isn't going to help a cruiser much), better repair (to delay dying only until the very next salvo), better AP (what use is that for 6" guns at T10 FFS), severely nerfing HE, possibly even removing it altogether. They would have been better off saying nothing, rather than pouring petrol on the fire with this rubbish!

Will the RN cruiser make high tier battles worse?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely correct! The RN Cruisers were supposed to be ready for this weekends event at Chatham. http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/community/salute-to-the-40s/ WG's blurb for this event proudly states: "Would you like to experience one of Britain’s most authentic vintage festivals, listen to live music from the 40s and the deafening sound of HMS Cavalier’s guns, as well as try out the upcoming British cruisers in World of Warships? Then join us at the Chatham Historical Dockyard - let’s salute the 40s together in style! " So what are WG going to do - show nothing? Show RN cruisers as they would have been? What? Either way, yet another "less than sparkling" PR result for Wargaming. -

Fears about the IJN destroyer line rework
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Kanmen's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the reply, because this has been really puzzling me (I have Mutsuki in port ATM, but unplayed). So, taking this step-by-step:1) Starting point is this:A player wants to get T7 Hatsuharu and has:T5 Minekaze, elited, 0 XPT6 Mutsuki with 50000 XPSince T7 Hatsuharu needs a total of 63000 XP to research, player is currently 13000 XP short. 2) WG do the ship tree reorganisation 3) "XP will remain at the tier they were earned in so XP earned in a tier VI Mutsuki will just be transferred to the tier VI Fubuki which will replace the Mutsuki in the port."So the new situation for the player will be:T5 Minekaze, no longer elited, 0 XP, player needs to grind all over again to get T6 Hatsuharu.T5 Mutsuki, UNRESEARCHED and unownedT6 Fubuki with 50000 XP >> towards the grind for T7 Akatsuki I'm sure you are correct - but I am not happy with this. I'd hoped that my last grind of an IJN destroyer was over with T6 Mutsuki. -

Which of my "silver" ships should get these 15 point Captains assigned to them?
Admiral_H_Nelson posted a topic in General Discussion
Hello! After a year of grinding, I finally have two 15 point Captains. One US, One Russia. I'm not sure how to make best use of them. MY SITUATION I have already respecced the Russian captain to include the Level 5 skill "Concealment Expert". I will do the same for the US Captain. These two Captains need a permanent home. Realistically, I am looking at cruisers. The game is not fun for me unless I feel that I am able to make a decent contribution towards my team winning, e.g. finishing in the top half of the scoring table in the majority of games. I feel that I can do this in tiers 1-6, but 7 is a struggle, and at tier 8 I am a liability to my team so I must avoid it at the moment. THE ADVICE THAT I NEED Which of my ships should get these 15 point Captains assigned to them? Russian Candidates Tier Ship Comments 4 Svietlana I'd rather play Kuma or Phoenix at this tier TBH 5 Kirov Possible 5 Murmansk Does a premium ship need a permanent captain? 6 Molotov Does a premium ship need a permanent captain? 6 Budyonny Possible. Has a decent 13 point Captain at the moment. 7 Shchors Has the captain at the moment, but a difficult tier 8 Chapayev Bought her in a sale for future use only US Candidates Tier Ship Comments 4 Phoenix Too low a tier 5 Omaha A good ship, but mothballed because I always choos Murmansk at this tier instead. 6 Cleveland Already has a decent 12 point captain with the spec that I want for Cleveland 7 Indianapols Does a premium ship need a permanent captain? 7 Pensacola Not a PepsiCola hater. But it's tier 7, and Indianapolis is an easier ship to play I believe. I'd make a guess (but only that) at Budyonny for the Russian Captain. The US one has me stumped! -
Which of my "silver" ships should get these 15 point Captains assigned to them?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
Thanks to everyone for the replies. I hadn't even thought of the suggestions made, so it was worthwhile asking the question AFAIAC. Tier 7 difficult. I'm afraid it is - I'm THAT bad! It took me 55 games to grind through Yorck to get Hipper and that is with Premium account and being Top Tier in 30 games and bottom tier in only 6. The problem is the other Tier 7 ships find me and kick my head in. SUMMARY OF RESPONSES - Whichever ships I enjoy playing the most - Pensacola, with retraining in Indianapolis (Strong support for this) - New Orleans gets a noticeable improvement with concealment (if I were grinding US cruisers - but not keen on them TBH) - Kirov and Omaha - Shchors (current home of Russian captain) MY PLAN - Leave Russian Captain where he is (Shchors) - Move US Captain to Pensacola and retrain in Indianapolis - Make another attempt at playing Tier 7 again, possibly in October if the RN cruisers are delayed as looks likely. Thanks once again.
