The Great Battleship Plague of 2016
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to CatOnKeyboard's topic in General Discussion
Great post! That could be me talking. A child of the 1950's. Airfix (and other) models was where my love of Warships started. Trying to remember them all: Bismarck, Scharnhorst, Admiral Hipper, Hood, Nelson, Suffolk, Cossack, Ark Royal, Campbeltown, Hotspur, USS Enterprise That's REAL nostalgia, that is. Ah! Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. -
The Great Battleship Plague of 2016
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to CatOnKeyboard's topic in General Discussion
I grew up in a tough neighbourhood where we wrapped snow round a pebble to make a snowball. It made it heavier and it reached its target (victim) more easily. I've been hooked on armour piercing ammunition ever since. -
Yes. WG use the email address(es) to link the two accounts. QUOTE We recommend you register your Public Test Account with the same email address you are using for your standard (live server) account. That way we can deliver any rewards granted for participating in the Public Test sessions. END-QUOTE http://worldofwarships.eu/en/content/pt-guide/

Maybe the economy changes were actually scheduled for inclusion - and that is what they told the people who created the threads in the Beta Test section of the forum - but they pulled out at the last minute (ooh!...err.....Missus....)

I played on PT today. The BBs that I played were North Carolina and Bismarck. Not sure that my experience is typical but here it is. I didn't play "normally". I consider that I was doing serious testing, but other people might accuse me of messing about. What was I doing? Deliberately going bow first towards the enemy to expose my ship to being severely damaged by a frontal hit, and deliberately aiming at the enemy BB bow from all angles (including straight ahead). And nothing happened. Well not exactly nothing. Just the usual damage from BB AP shells. I did score citadel hits on roughly broadsided Battleships, but not from the front. FINAL POINT I posted this in the PT section of the forum as well. I set Bismarck up with the most powerful secondary armament that I could. Its barmy. It's way too strong IMHO - but I'm not a hard core BB player.

Nice vid. Nobody explains a game and a ship as well as Flamu. Several good tips, including the one about using binocular view to keep checking the closest enemy battleships. I'm looking forward to playing Pensacola in random battles some time in the future. I have the ship in my fleet and have tried a few co-op battles to see what the ship feels like. I have played a few games in Indianapolis (which is similar in many ways), and the one game where things went right for me was very enjoyable, so I fully expect to enjoy Pensacola. I need to improve my aim first. That is a "must". It's so bad that it's depressing - especially after 1800 games. However in true bulldog spirit I am determined to keep practising until it reaches an acceptable level.

+1. Very nice feature. Well done Wargaming.

This ^^. Never mind this "rudder shift" nonsense - reduce the turning circle significantly instead. Cruisers will still get citadelled by the odd BB shell due to RNG - whatever the rudder shift value. Concealment is what is needed!
-
Hear one or two tunes that I had not heard before - but this could be due to me playing tier 8-10 (which I don't do on the live server, because I am poor at these levels) Apart from the odd glitch, sound is something that Wargaming seem to do really well. The port tunes are really atmospheric IMHO. Great stuff!

Agree absolutely. Please stop these childish guessing games and tell the players how XP really works. Thank You.

Did all 3 challenges (win 10 in Cruisers, Battleships, Soviet DDs) Battleships - no change, and masses playing the Bismarck Cruisers - no change, same strengths and weaknesses. BB heavy meta just like live game. Soviet DDs - nerfed to beggary. It doesn't help that you get focussed for a few salvos in co-op by the bots even after you hear the magic words "Smoke screen set" and a quick check reveals that you are firmly in the middle of a smoke circle. One salvo, I can understand, but THREE ??!! SIDE NOTE I'm only up to Tier 6 "Bayern" in the German BB line on the live server. We get Bismarck provided automatically on the PT server. After seening one of Flamu's videos I set her up with full secondary build. It's barmy. Far too strong.

Well for the forward guns you can lock them in neutral - lock on bearing with ctrl+x It doesn't solve the problem of the rear guns though.

Didn't notice any changes. Usual warning. Usual countdown. Usual game of blind man's buff when the cyclone hits. Let's face it cyclones are like marmite - you love them or hate them! I don't think that there is anything that you can do to them to either make anybody change their mind either way.

Carriers are OP, Battleships are OP, Cruisers are OP, Destroyers are OP

+1. I'm trying to retrain a couple of captains and I thought that this weekend would be ideal (Triple XP....yay!) Only managed 14 matches, but damage, kills etc well up on average.................... and just two wins! And of course those two wins were in my worst two matches - 9th & 10th on the team in scoring with low XP. Frustrated! -
POLL: Which ships are you waiting for the most?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
IMHO Wargaming should not be wasting time using valuable resources on splitting lines until they have included all the major 20th Century navies plus important/interesting ships from other countries with smaller navies. Just why is it more important to split the IJN Destroyer line (WGs latest pet project) than to introduce a new line of French and Italian ships? Seriously - anybody know what the excuse is? (My own pet theory is that the reorganisation is a good way to make IJN DDs less powerful. This is to make the Battleship drivers happier) -
5.12: Yet another balls up to appease whiners
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Charger76's topic in General Discussion
Top post! One salute is not enough. Have another one. Everything said is true, and this is the best advice for any player IMHO: " If you want to have fun, then pick a ship or two from any tier that you enjoy, forget the grind to tier X, its a chore, and games should not be chores. I myself love to play my tier 4-7's, just like in WoT, most fun, cheap to run! " -
If ever a line cried out to be the "solid, dependable, conservative" one it is Royal Navy Cruisers. Instead of that WG are proposing a set of radical - "experimental" even - ships. Where can I get a a) few locks of hair from the genius who thought up this for RN Cruisers b) A genuine effigy doll c) A large box of really sharp pins.

New IJN DD, what happens to old perma camo?
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to Charger76's topic in Destroyers
Perhaps a stupid question, but here goes. Did WG ever do a re-organisation in "World of Tanks" similar to what they are planning with the IJN Destroyer line? If so, what happened? I have T5 Minekaze and T6 Mutsuki at the moment. I have a feeling that I will be left with two tier 5 ships after the reorg. What I would like (and think would be fair) is to still have a T6 ship after the reorg - AND BE ABLE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE GUNBOAT LINE OR THE TORPEDO BOAT LINE. -
Cruisers are becoming more and more pointless

I had these some of these ideas in my head, but couldn't think of the right way to say them in a post. You have explained them brilliantly, so I don't have to. Thank You -

"Something unexpected." Must be Spain then. The Spanish Inquisition Fleet. I wonder what it's main weapon will be? -
World of Warships 1 Year Anniversary Special - "ALL IN GUYS"
Admiral_H_Nelson replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
LOL. You must either be single, or have a very understanding partner! I'm lucky if I can play 3-4 games a day on average! I won't even be able to fit in 15 games - never mind 15 wins in the time available. That's OK - Good Luck to everyone who has the time and desire for the challenge! -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

"British cruisers will be something between DD and CL. Developers are still struggling with their balancing" No kidding. Well, we all ready have ships which show some charactersitics of both cruisers and battleships (Scharnorst, Dunkerque) So now we will have something between a Cruiser and a Gunboat. I give you .... [drum roll] .......the "Crunboat". - faster than a DD, but not as fast as a CL. (Fits in with the talk about speed boost) - Better concealment than a CL, but not as good as a DD. (Original concept had better concealment) - Better survivability than a DD, but not as good as a CL. (generally, RN cruisers have low HP values compared to rivals) - Better main battery range than a DD, but not as good as a CL (Original stats had RN cruisers outranged, but good RoF) - Better AA than a DD, but not as good as a CL. (As original concept. Decent AA, but no AA boost consumable) - Better torpedoes than a CL, but not as good as a DD (RN cruisers with generally longer range torpedoes, and single-firing gimmick, which may be useful in situations) "Developers are still struggling with their balancing" Yeah, I struggle with my balancing when I've had a skinfull as well.
