How to unlock HE ammunition for British cruisers
creamgravy replied to Dampfboot's topic in General Discussion
Tier 6-8 have amazing armour! Most AP just overpens and you can bounce a lot off your belt. They get the best heal in the game, have great torpedoes and can hide in smoke if it all gets too much. They're mental brawlers. Look at the average damage it takes to sink my Edinburgh. -
How to unlock HE ammunition for British cruisers

I'm running a partial secondary brawler build for Edinburgh. 3 close quarters expert achievements already. -
This is how sailing Gerard Butler Edinburgh with a 17 point captain feels. She's sinking at least one Bismarck, Torpitz or Shinny Horse at close quarters every game
-
Get your concealment down to 8.7km then play a few games. It's massively OP compared to everyone else. Edit: So are Fiji and Edinburgh ...but they'll get nerfed after a month or too.
-
It's was done as a demonstration. A Fletcher recently owned me in my Edinburgh (can't remember your name but WP) You simply can't damage angled tier 8+ destroyers with 6" AP. I've been playing around with a few secondary builds as you get very close with these cruisers and many ships just bum rush your smoke. Secondaries are very good for pinging destroyers, setting fires and making BBs panic so they show a bit more angle.

30 games in Edinburgh. She completely outclasses all other tech tree tier 8 cruisers. Nothing beats taking a 30k salvo from Bismarck, only to heal back most of it and then pummel them with AP, secondaries and a face full of torpedoes in a brawl. Warspite approves Forget the guide, you can't touch a half decent destroyer captain. BBabies are your main prey with those big, juicy superstructures. Here's what I'd do. T1-2. Add HE, the rest is fine. T3-4. Fix deck armour over the citadel (1" or 25mm) Add HE, remove the heal. T5. Add 8km torpedoes. (This is the first 'SAP only' ship but has epic torpedoes) T6-8. Fine (maybe remove heal, it's very OP) T9-10. Reduce citadel like T6-8 or drop draught by a few meters to match T6-8.

No last stand isn't worth it, engines from tier 6+ are very reliable. (Although I've got it on my Leander captain thanks to the Campbeltown )
-
I agree. They're crushing tier 6+ You need to do over 65,000 damage to a Edinburgh to take one down AND it has smoke! Seriously... how on earth is that balanced compared to a New Orleans or Hipper?
-
I'm doing significantly better in RN CLs than other f2p cruiser lines. (not a top player) Leander absolutely spanks Nürnberg out the park. Fiji takes out the trash. Edinburgh ROLFstomps over poor New Orleans. Simple truth: HE would add 30% to my average damage and make them a bit OP (BalancedFast)
-
A beginner Belfast lands 3 salvos of HE at well angled heavy cruiser ...yet still does 12,000 damage. "Ping, ping ping. Ping, ping, ping" Is that the sound of 6" AP or the tears of Edinburgh?
-
I don't know if anyone important reads this but... The tier 3 and 4 have incorrect armour values. They should have 25mm deck armour protecting the citadel, right now destroyer HE can citadel them on the deck. That's a terrible way to introduce everyone to a new line.
-
A good question. I haven't play the low tier yet but let's look at the problem. Tier 2 Weymouth. The citadel seems well protected, nothing to see here. Tier 3 Caledon. 16mm citadel deck armour. Oh dear, this means any 4" HE shell will penetrate the deck and citadel the ship. All destroyers except Tachibana and Smith can citadel the deck with HE regardless of angle. Whoops. Tier 4 Danae 19mm citadel deck armour, This means any 5" HE shell will penetrate the deck and citadel the ship but 4" HE won't penetrate. Most destroyers have 5" guns.. Whoops. Tier 5 Emerald. 25mm citadel deck armour. This means any 8" HE shell will penetrate the deck and citadel the ship but destroyer HE won't penetrate. That's fine for a WW1 scout design. Historically Caledon and Danae have 1" deck amour (25mm) so WG have messed this one up. Caledon and Danae should get 25mm deck armour like Emerald.

After all the complaints I think it's about time to look at the highlights. Loony Leander. Fantastic Fiji. Excellent Edinburgh.
-
Game modes not ships. You can't allow Belfast (and Flint) to compete in tier 7 ranked battles with a straight face.
-
They've released her at tier 7? Shame, I'd love to see Belfast in tier 8 team battles with Atago and MK. (Is tier 7 competitively dead now? I.e. no more ranked battles etc)
-
Well, I've just come from grinding the New Orleans. Phew, that's a hard ship to play. Low HE DPM, no torpedoes, no smoke, no heal. Leander at tier 8?
-
It's much better than Mogami, NO and Hipper. Bow on BBs are a problem but if there's no DDs around you can stealth torp em. She can tank 60k+ with heals AND has smoke AND can stealth torp. A great ship.
-
I tried it and got a CQE flag in my first game, RIP Mahan Unfortunately 4" does nothing to those BBabies, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Leander, Fiji and Edinburgh are challenging for best in class. They absolutely spank US and KM cruisers. (not T8 Cleveland)
-
You guys have played or 'one shot' Omahas right? RN CLs are significantly better than most US cruisers.
-
Regardless of tier it absolutely sucks not being able to damage players than know you can only shoot AP.
-
Leander, Fiji and Edinburgh are FREEKIN awesome! ...but I'd give anything to be able to shoot HE at camping BBs or DDs. ANYTHING! ...By anything I mean £28
-
How on earth do you beat a 'bow/stern on' ship? Even destroyers are immune to your guns when angled. Answer
-
You should try a full secondary build for Edinburgh or Neptune. Sit in smoke at 7km and vomit out 6 HE shells every 2 seconds.
