Honestly, I don't want to get close to any RN CL smoke cloud with a DD. You need to be 100% certain there's no planes, DDs or radar to spot you, otherwise it's lights out.
-
Destroyer captains, I need a volunteer to get with in 6km of Belfast smoke to spot them. Any takers? Hello? Where have you all gone? Ok, which one of you just fired torpedoes at me?
-
AA spec Queen Elizabeth is a beast for this operation. Your 7.2km AA bubble protects everyone from the carriers. It's fast and has excellent HE agasint angled KM BBs. It might be the no.1 BB if/when they do a hard mode.
-
100% correct. I'd like MM based on experience with DDs and CVs too.
-
Stick your Belfast captain in KGV and spam HE at a Belfast. It's called balance.
-
Yep, that's the fun part with RN camo. Why did Grenade use a dark Khaki. Not enough black/blue to do around? Did they think Khaki was better suited for the contraband control duty assigned until transferred? Ajax has the best Med camo scheme.
-
I tested Auxiliary Armaments Modification 1 recently.

It looks like the last 3 shells hit at a 32-35 degrees. At close range shells come in from greater angles, esp with long, broadside BBs. Auto bounce works best at long range right? Great RNG on the Gneis though...
-
Don't forget Colorado and Nagato are just as vulnerable. KGV is a modern BB with fantastic HE that makes up for the inability to lol pen 25mm with AP. I'm no expert but It's easily the best silver tier 7 BB right? Not after 3-4 HE salvos

The cartoon or Chinese premiums.
-
KGV can't angle, there's no sweet spot. All 15"+ AP hits are guaranteed penetrations regardless of angle or range and Battleship hulls are too wide for overpens. WG have turned her into a large cruiser with 25mm everywhere, use your speed and stealth to stay safe. Maybe you can bait noobs into shooting your heavily angled belt from 10km+? Nah, that hasn't worked since KM BBs came out.

HMS Grenade's camo was painted for the Mediterranean, she was still wearing it when the 1st Destroyer Flotilla was transferred to the Home Fleet and sunk soon after at Dunkirk. Home fleet ships tend to use paler colours and less blocky patterns. Gadjah Mada is another with a classic Mediterranean scheme.
-
Nagato, Colorado and KGV can't angle against 15" AP shells. They get overmatched everywhere apart from the (usually irrelevant) belt, so don't get focused by 15"+ guns at any range. Nagato and Colorado usually stay at the back, KGV can ghost in/out at speed. Nelson, Gneisenau and Scharnhorst can tank very well. All have a 32mm+ deck and hull, they can sit at 10-14km and angle very effectively agasint all BB AP. Nelson has a huge 25mm nose, don't confuse bow tanking with angle tanking.

Doesn't it depend on the location? Atlantic/Western approaches = Full stealth with light colours and shapes to confuse periscopes. Effective schemes were judged by the number of collisions. (Campbeltown, Edinburgh) Mediterranean = No hiding here, maximum dazzle with high contrast colours and shapes (Gallant, Perth) Indian ocean/Pacific = 'Go faster' hull stripe to try and make ships look shorter/further away (Late war French, US, BPF) Coastal/general work = Combo. Confuse and hide depending on location. (Blys, QE)

When will WG stop adding "Gimmicks" and start fixing the fundamentals?
creamgravy replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
IJN and US lines have national gimmicks too. For example the US cruiser line has gimmicky AP penetration/normalisation, manoeuvrability and 27mm plating at high tier. I'm sure there's a few other soft stat differences too. Oh and AA. -
Premium camos for tier IV and V ships?
creamgravy replied to Drunken_Jedi's topic in General Discussion
Black Swans had the best camo schemes. -
Epicentre is fairly terrible, especially on large maps (+1 karma to the smart ones that go afk on Tears of the Desert) Standard battles are garbage too. WTF are you meant to do again, sail around and shoot the ones that get bored first? I'm sure many hate domination. Anyway, when are you going to give us the option to choose our 12 v 12 game mode preferences? It'll make the game so much better.

The damage potential of HE and RN BB's

9-12 BB shells + good accuracy > ammo type. -
Did anyone else have a terrible weekend?
creamgravy replied to Sicknote1's topic in General Discussion
Battleships can't contest caps unless the game is already over. They can't push into smoke and torpedoes with battleships/cruisers behind islands shooting them. The correct play is to camp around islands close enough to support a cap. The RN 120mm is actually better than all 127mm guns at tier 6. It has decent DPM, good traverse and high fire chance. Perfect for brawling other destroyers and HE spamming BBs. The downside is weak AP. -
Did anyone else have a terrible weekend?

40% with QE and 33% with KGV here. Watching your only 2 destroyers torpedo each other at the start is always fun. ...but I ground out a fully functioning KGV and QE. Happy days! 100% on Gallant plus a ton of positive karma. Destroyers and CV win games, BBs are helpless with no spotting. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
creamgravy replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
A typical weekend game. -
Tier 3-5 is wall to wall RN BBs, higher tier is wall to wall CVs for some reason.
-
No BB has protection agasint ships like Belfast. Tier 7 KGV is from 1942. 1945 KGV will be a future premium.
-
Forget solo win rates over the first weekend of a major BB launch.

RN BBs Armor penetration curves and accuracy curves

Accuracy can be found here > https://gamemodels3d.com/games/worldofwarships/ Here's some penetration values.
