Well there is that, but honestly I think the hard core of haters don't want to know, like the persistent "well you can just launch another squadron" thing...err no you can't at least not with anything that will have effect, I'm sure the rocket planes which are the only planes I can launch ATM will devastate the 2 tiers higher BB bearing down on me for example. I think they also think Db and torp drops are easy when you have to take note of land obstructions, targets speed and heading to get a "good drop", as well as the different characteristics of the db and torp bombers if you change ship, (actually the same as other ships in the game but still a factor).
-
Just been watching Notsers review of the Lenin BB, seems some ships are allowed to be overpowered and that's perfectly fine, if this is just Russian bias can you please speed up Russian carriers please
-
Quite right, when I've played dd's and been focused I've rarely had trouble dodging db's because I zig zag unpredictably when I see planes approaching, maybe they should give them an incoming aircraft skill similar to the incoming fire Captain skill and leave db's alone, that way "Just keep swimming" dd captains would still get punished
-
@Tanatoy these are not "improvements" for CV players, they are a wholesale nerf of current CV features. If Wargaming go ahead with this they need to compensate all players who either ground or bought CV's in good faith not knowing they were about to be downgraded into irrelevance.
-
Must say I'm not a big fan of rocket planes would prefer them to be fighters, cv's role would go back to include blocking enemy CV strikes, how that would work in the new gameplay though I don't know, unless you go to map and assign fighter to attack incoming attack aircraft like in RTS
-
In RTS your main quarry was the enemy CV and bb's, sure people bombed dd's but it wasn't the primary object, I remember plotting courses for squadrons so as not to give the CV's position away. Sure it also led to crap plays like Bogue 2+1 (fighter centric builds where person with the best fighter buffs won ) and "strafing" (Like that was ever a thing in air combat) but it could let us return to something where people were more or less happy if we bring back the basic principles, targets are enemy cv's and bb's maybe ca's and dd's if you have nothing better.
-
Yeah, same, I'm spending a lot of time in co op trying to develop the necessary skills, DB's in particular take a lot of practice to get right, torps less so but positioning is quite a skill, coming in over land is a no no even once you hit water on the other side, and I'm finding even if indicator is green torps aren't arming if you leave it last minute on the Ryujo. I'm finding CV's more of a challenge than any other class to play in this game, and I''m including the old RTS gameplay, which really just came down to multitasking squadrons and the ship and judging drops correctly, current gameplay is a lot less forgiving than RTS was.
-
Too late, already got my Lexington grinded and got Premiums from crates, I know wherof you speak though I have played tier 8's less since this weekend as I'm trying to grind the Ryujo up. If this goes badly I'll just go back to grinding dd's to tier x like I was before Wargaming dangled CV's in front of us, smiling and holding a dagger behind their backs waiting to unleash the sudden but inevitable betrayal
-
Doesn't even have to be tier X, noticed even the bot's in co op cluster now. I've been ranking tiers 4, 6, and 8 carriers last couple of weeks, at least at tier X you know you can't be up-tiered, even breathing near something like a Cleveland with a tier 6 CV's planes means they will all be obliterated, not just the attack flight the entire squadron, I make wide detours round certain ships in lower tiers.(and this is before the upcoming nerfs and AA boosts) If this goes badly then back to plan B, being a total and utter xxxxxxx in dd's.
-
Kamikaze will never be a thing despite people keep asking for it, it would be a PR disaster for Wargaming, they would get flamed to a crisp by the media, also way too easy to crash planes into a ship compared to using the existing weapons which contrary to opinion of people who have never played CV's is not that easy
-
Yeah not my first choice either, but I don't want this class to disappear, or to be rendered totally ineffective which is where it seems to be headed. At this rate we will be relying on secondary builds and ramming
-
Yeah I get that, I mean after the startup nerf. I get Tier 10 might be overpowered, but tier 4 is already like throwing moist paper towelettes at ships, tier 6 is moderately effective, Tier 8 you felt like you were starting to have some effect, and in all of the lower tiers your squadrons are literally shredded when going against up-tiered ships AA. I get nobody wants CV's to be all powerful, I've played all the other classes for some time, but some of us like the new gameplay (and yeah I played RTS, wasn't that keen on it in comparison), at least give us some incentive to play them. On that score I support the calls for a separate mode for CV players if thats what it takes (Even against bots), at least you won't get never ending abuse purely for choice of ship.
-
So no scouting, no hitting DD's, overpowered AA on Cruisers to be the norm...I see a deluge of forum posts in you future Wargaming.... "My BB's keep getting sunk by nasty airplanes from even nastier CV's, make it stop!!, Why when the game starts do all the aircraft rush to the back of the map hitting BB's?"

Do you have more fun in matches with CVs or without?
arcticstorm123 replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I was really just making a remark in passing, if they removed peoples ability to do this it wouldn't worry me either way, someone will always come up with a new way to exploit game conditions put in for what are sensible reasons. I don't play cv's exclusively, so I can see both sides, it just depends how much slingshots are actually used, and if it's on a scale that it is a problem that needs fixing, CV's aren't all powerful and aircraft can take significant damage already, it's that fine line between making them worth playing and making them irrelevant. CV's are in that class in Wargaming games where some people would rather they did not exist at all, same as arty in WOT and bombers in WOWP, and some people won't be happy till they are nerf'd into oblivion , I don't mind limiting something being exploited so long as it isn't just an excuse to hate on a particular class of ship. -

Well you have obviously no time for CV's at all despite them being in the game for quite some time and you can't reply in a constructive fashion without resorting to personal attacks, so fine by me. -

No, when you are in such situations you can bet a radar or sonar equipped cruisers not far behind once they know the area an enemy dd is in they will hunt you down regardless, everyone makes killing enemy dd's the number one priority -

Sure and I've had the same experience in dd's, with other dd's with smaller spotting ranges pursuing you till the ends of the earth keeping you visible, pretty much standard game play. -

This!, very much this!, it's not as easy as people think, and I think it's more of a tribute to the skill of people like Yuro that these videos exist at all, and sure he wants something different to up his views and keep people interested. I've had a number of occasions where I've hit one ship and can see another coming up, rarely been able to hit the second ship satisfactorily on the slingshot, even messing with speed etc. -
Yeah I had that too, some weird stuff in there, James Bond and Die Hard?, don't see how they would fit that into the game
-
Nice idea, but someone has opened a pub near me called "The Black Dog", Pirate Captains in WOWS as well and I'll end up like "Steve the Pirate" in Dodgeball
-
Strike aircraft: totally agree I currently use them early game to hunt and attack dd's but as you say they have no punch Torp bombers: ....so deep water torps maybe? Db's : mixed feelings, always used to use bombs on dd's wouldn't like to lose that, and in high tier games playing dd's have had not much trouble avoiding bomb drops, you just need to be aware you are being focused, maybe something akin to priority target or incoming fire captain skills? (getting totalled by a bomb drop should be a "reward" for not taking evasive action)
-
I voted for the first option because I like the new game play style, however the damage at low tiers is seriously broken, both as what you take as a player and what you can do to ships, and yes I've tried sneaking around the map to find lone ships etc, taking different approaches it doesn't matter, in a tier 4 particularly you lose half the flight per attack. In my last game scored a good bomb drop on an Orion from a Hermes and got a miserly 2k damage, in the Langley with the small size of the squadrons you often find you have one torpedo in the water because the god like AA has shredded the rest of the flight. Isn't tier 4 where players are supposed to start and you encourage them a ship type is worth playing? The old game wasn't terrible and gave much more damage, I ground both IJN and US carriers to tier 6 and got way better scores so I know this isn't me, the AA at low tiers is insane now. Talking to others in my clan they say, Yes low tiers are hard but it gets better at tier 10, where the hell is the encouragement to spend day after day being in the lower half of the scoreboard for encouragement that eventually I'll get to a level where the damage actually makes sense? I know they are still balancing, and I know lots of cry babies screamed that carriers were overpowered when this new style was first launched (so what else is new?), but I think they wielded the nerf bat a little too harshly, I've purposely held off playing CV's till this weekend because of all the controversy, and it being new, but the current state of play is ridiculously under powered for lower tiers, and yes I can see my tier 6 carriers play slightly better. I'd add this has all been in co op, I'd be too embarrassed to play these weak under powered ships against humans. I'd rather not play a class of ships where it feels like your offensive weaponry is moist paper towels, and you get the crap beaten out of you every single attack.

Will old ship models be improved?
arcticstorm123 replied to cometcruiser's topic in General Discussion
Yep, over the years I have seen several updates which have stated that various ships have had their appearance improved improved, they do do this but it doesn't tend to get noticed as it's included in updates -

Most of the complaints on here comes down to whether or not you expect to get an uber ship, or if you are just treating it as what it is, which is a straight gamble for a bit of fun if you can afford it. To my mind there are are not many "bad" ships, won the Monaghan yesterday, and just took it out in co op , ok it's a premium Farragut, got up to the Mahan in the main tree so don't see myself playing it much, but then again as I'm belatedly grinding the US and Japanese trees after doing the German and UK lines that's true of a lot of my "good" Premiums ships including the Tier 8 Kidd and HSF Harekaze if we are talking dd's. Like a lot of people here I have a lot of ships that I don't play, I bought the Imperator Nikolai when it was first sold but I play it once in a blue moon unless I specifically want to go seal clubbing, (usually after a run of bad games ) I also play World of Warplanes and it's the same there, have won plane bundles and worked through planes in the tree which include "bad" aircraft (even according to CC reviews) which turn out to be pretty damn good, it all depends on the person and if you "get" the strength's and weaknesses, and your play style. Ok not likely to rack up many kraken's in a Monaghan, but it's not impossible either, it's just not an "I win!" ship. -
