The only thing that stops this being a fully blown whine thread in my eyes is the Benson complaints. Lo Yang likely makes Bensons almost obsolete as it's essentially a B Hull Benson with Hydro. However look at Lo Yang's other attributes other than Hydro. HP is mediocre. Gun DPM is poor and almost unusable after about 7km. Torpedoes are poor for T8. The 9.2km ones are very little threat and some BBs will simply laugh them off with 40+ belts. The 6.7km torps are quite nice however they can only be used to defend caps or people rushing you. They can't really deny areas, torp smoke or get those longer range shots. Manoeuvrability is pretty much best in the class however. As others have said, to use Hydro to win caps you are either in smoke or behind an island. Both of which make you predictable and often traps you in. In Ranked being able to hydro a cap is no good unless your team is willing to be aggressive and support you other wise the enemy just wait until it runs out then muscle in on you. And that's speaking from experience this season. Like I said, I ranked out in a Harekaze and felt it wasn't viable in a Lo Yang so does that make the IJN DD the Ultimate ship?

I couldn't rank out with a Lo Yang yet I could in a Harekaze. Hydro doesn't make you invincible or give you an automatic win button. If you know a Lo Yang is contesting a cap behind an island then maybe don't go there. Skill is the I win button not Hydro

Ah, I haven't played any RN Cruiser since the smoke buffs. Didn't know what difference it made...

I did when grinding her. Now I have a Mino with radar. I've always felt RN Cruisers with smoke are limited as the cloud isn't big in comparison to the ship so people often roll the RNG dice and get hits on you whilst undetected...

The spotter DD is probably one of the most if not the most important roles in Ranked. It's often thankless and "good" spotter DD games usually result in you finishing bottom of the XP pile even though you made it all happen. But for me this role takes out a lot of the randomness out of Ranked as I can consistently progress. It's about playing safe but still being close enough to spot. I may play once more for a Black next season but I'm coming to the end of my Ranked "career" as I don't think I get much from play it other than a lot of time wasted. Also WG your rewards are pathetic, the average PT reward is better than Ranked ones. -
New Orleans was the most painful grind ever as no heal, no armour and AP that doesn't pen higher Tier Cruisers with the Lel MM makes you almost ineffective... Chapy wasn't too bad as you can always find something to IFHE spam down from distance and I don't remember feeling the pain with Edin radar build.

LWM's reviews are the best yes and she even improves her review methodology over time. Flamu's reviews are "ok" but his reviews basically consist of a best case game where he farms the innocent potatoes then talks about an aspect of the ship being "garbage" I'd play a few more battles and decide what sort of ships you enjoy playing, people can recommend ships but they may not work for you. Only you can really decide if something is good. Only thing I'll say is beware of any BB that is slower than about 25 knots, that's Prem ships like the Warspite and Arizona. Whilst they're still awesome ships, the meta has developed into lots of fast BBs being attainable for everyone. You may find in quite a few games you're simply left behind or chased down because your BB only does about 21 knots... If you're new a fast BB will buy you a lot of tactical flexibility and dig you out of sticky situations. But saying that please don't buy a Tirpitz without doing a lot of research -
If Roma was more accurate she would be OP as you would pen if not citadel angled BB all the time.

Dunno I've always managed to stop streaks before they fall too far. The main common denominator in everything is still yourself despite everything. If teams are that bad then surely it's possible to farm stars? Just saying a streak of a few losses is entirely possible but a freefall can only be levelled at the player as they're not pulling their weight for whatever reason. Even my seemingly 200+ crazy Premier League grind only had me fall from R3 to R5 at the very most. Usually it was endless win loss win loss patterns.

I didn't have anything like a unicum game but I stayed alive and spotted. Which is more than I can say for our Kiev (lel), their Benson who yoloed and their Kagero who was way too static.

I only ever noticed the yo-yo from R5 to R6. IMO if you've fallen from 2 to 6 then you've personally messed up somewhere. If you can hold 5 and higher then you're good enough for R1 as the meta and player base won't change thereafter. I always mute those who talk cr@p. Especially the ones who die then expect us to be mind readers. Stay positive in chat and tactics talk, it does make a difference if folk are willing to co operate. I'd say almost never die for your team. The only way you can secure wins is by being there to influence them. I've seen comebacks from impossible odds so if you're not there then you can only blame yourself.

The stupid derpy RN BB HE spamming line has upset me as I wanted something competitive in a non cheesy way. The Prem RN BBs perform better (well Hood, Warspite and Nelson) than their tech tree ships. Roma's super powered low calibre AP is a gimmick I really enjoy however.

The Premier League is a different play style. A lot of players yo-yo from R5 and R6. You'll see similar players yes and it takes a bit of time to rise above that. I took a season in that bracket before shooting for R1. Not sure how I'd describe it's difference but for a start the game is a lot slower, don't try to force games quickly if it's risky. Spotting becomes very important as people camp as they don't want to be first to get focused. Do talk to your team as teamwork is OP.

Well I need to play more yes but I had problems for the first few games but I'm starting to understand the ship. Other players who have more games will support the opinion that Roma is a strong ship...

There's a guy on here who thinks German BBs like Tirpitz should be buffed massively according to historic data. Things such as 20s reloads and better accuracy...

That reads like a bit of a whine thread so far. Roma is far better off in this form than a copy paste BB. I'm not even sure what the guy wants other than lots of changes.

Smoke, simply has to be. As long as you are not vs Radar Cruisers it will save you countless times. Maybe in Random Battles I'll use TRB but only one Ranked choice.

It felt like to me the player base fell off a cliff and never recovered but it also might be me... I'd have given up if not for pride Done now so I can go do constructive things like play BBs

The penetration is weird. You'd think 15" wouldn't pen things that are heavily angled but they've got the potential to go through almost everything.

Yeah it would be weird but WG should give reductions on servicing for surviving on low HP. Like a bonus for living on the edge...

I think this thread is best served by everyone populating it with screenshots of strong Roma performances. The ones with more time can make little gifs and videos of various one shot kills etc

Roma dispersion needs a bit of time to learn, there's an optimal range and you don't aim them like other BB guns. They can citadel or at least cause consistent damage to ships that have angles you assume would bounce, this does come at massive over pens vs targets you'd normally shoot in BBs. Seriously, if anyone who has a Roma thinks she sucks then you need to go and use her a bit more. Unlike any other BB in game so far so a bit of adaptation is needed. I would imagine if Roma had a faster reload or better dispersion the ship would become pretty OP... Maybe we'll get that if enough people whine?

Thanks bro, unless I get a clamouring for a Black that'll be the last time for me. Takes up too much of my time and effort Harekaze build was PM, LS, SE, IFHE, CE, RPF with PT at the end. A very tight build as it leaves you no room to specialise in anything, can't take anything like Torp reload booster, AR or SI etc. But dammn it works, a 60% WR in the Harekaze can't be wrong. I bought the ship months ago but haven't used her much, she's a weird hybrid DD with no real out standing strengths other than concealment and good DPM which are off set by relatively poor manoeuvrability and pathetic HP so she really takes no prisoners. But if you learn to use the guns, torps and concealment then the sum of the parts is pretty impressive. Probably one of the better Premium Ships I've got in terms of balance and rewarding play.

Only really works in a Harekaze or another Lo Yang. As they either have the firepower or the smoke+hydro cheese to retreat with. It'll be painful in a Benson yeah so I can understand the paywall frustration. Really wouldn't take a TRB Kagero out but some did run them in the Premier League. I'd debate they would only do well if supported by real DDs... But what you've said earlier is probably correct, WG need to look at a way of altering Ranked. 3 times out of 4 I've ranked out with the same play style. Anything else and it just feels like a pointless win/loss/win/loss grind.
