We have our first bite of the day Ranked and CW still feature a fair amount of DDs, surely if radar was all powerful then none of the top teams or players would even bring them into games? Radar kills DDs consistently? Not heard of looking at the line up and maybe memorising what has radar, at what ranges they go out to and their duration? Ever looked at the mini map and wondered where the enemy ships might be? Perhaps playing a little on the safe side until the radar ships are accounted for? Naturally good concealment still has the edge over radar ships for far longer periods of time. Of course I've only grinded every DD line to T10, ranked out multiple times in Ranked with DDs, earnt my clan Stalingrad flags as the DD so I'm obviously an extremely lucky individual over long periods of time. Have fun, remember it's always the fault of the team or the game balance

Literally every Hood I ever see in every battle ever
RUSSIANBlAS replied to M0bius_One's topic in General Discussion
Hood has some excellent turret angles too, one of the better ones out there so no real excuses not to sail around heavily angled towards the enemy... -
I think some players get frustrated by all the repeated fail whine that's essentially either based around ignorance or lack of ability... Can blame WG for not providing better tutorials or easier to understand mechanics and more visible ship attributes. Personally I'd simply post screenshots of hard carry higher tier DDs for every new thread, just to show folk that they're in largely a good place right now. Lack of time these days sadly Actually have a few now but I'll be back with more at some stage

Either give us the Graf Zeppelin or remove it from play.

Shush... Let the whiners complain so WG releases it. Then go Clear Sky medal hunting in "you know what" -

If GZ comes then I'm getting in my Enterprise and farming planes... GZ has insane strike power but can't compete with Big E in the air. Can then start your own farm once the GZ has been neutralised. Guess key would be to stop them 1 shotting a few of your team however!! -
More radars? Nerfed radars? L2P? Radar counters?
RUSSIANBlAS replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
Problem is if the whine intensifies enough then WG may make changes... Like the rumours of a CV dumbing down rework. DD is probably one of the more skillful and risky ways to play WoWS and I'd rather WG left the class alone other than maybe better XP gains for spotting... -
I've got a spare USN captain I can plug in from my DM as Halsey will live there at some point. Problem is Mass is very expensive for what's a mildly buffed German like BB brawler. It's not a price I'm willing to pay as I still need to get my money's worth from the Bama, Enterprise, Kidd as well as needing to play stuff like the Kii and grind T10 Legendary modules. Basically I've got more than enough to play without having to pay more. It's likewise with my WoT account, I have to balance spending with the amount of games I'll actually need to play to get a feeling of spending my money well. Wouldn't even know where to place a value on a T8 ship in terms of playing your money's worth. 200 games maybe?

Petition to either remove or nerf radar.

WG could go as far as to spoon feed the Uninitiated the ships with radar with their ranges and duration on the loading screen maybe? But we are initiated aren't we Bruce? -
Power Heal is nice yeah but even more derp with the guns won't help for mid range shoot outs which is what a lot of games are. T8 BBs can heavily angle vs 16" AP. I wouldn't say a Mass has any big advantages over an Amagi, Roma or NC with the way most games pan out due to their firepower. Vs the Germans maybe as they're under gunned with only 8x15".
-
Depends if you're after a USN BB trainer then Bama is more suitable since Missouri will likely never be seen again. Mass looks fun but needs a unique captain for Secondary brawling to perform best I'd imagine.
-
I haven't actually played NC and Bama back to back. Always thought I wouldn't buy Bama if I had my time again but it's all round a very solid T8 BB after the pre release buffs. (Anyone who doesn't know, it used to have a massive raised citadel but WG need to get paid). Bama has the sweet museum ship camo as seen on Missouri too. As said I like mine but I'm forcing myself to play all the Prems I've bought and hardly used before I spend more money.
-
Budy armour is perfect for BBs though. Maybe it's just thick enough so the shells reliably arm instead of over pen. It's one of the most reliable 1 shot First Blood victims out there
-
Bama is nice enough. Basically a smaller and more manoverable NC with derpy guns. Although I have to force myself to play mine as I paid full price for it on release. Cute little size for a T8 BB but the torp belt is a little overrated.
-
DDs risk taking is dis-proportional to that of the BB. At the higher tiers a BB is effective at 15km or so, which is beyond most torps and accurate fire. That range also allows the BB to withdraw safetly into concealment. Whereas as a DD needs to get closer to cap, to spot other DDs, to torp etc but that puts them at huge risk of radar permi spot, stray BB AP shells, enemy focus fire etc. All for a lesser XP reward at the end of a game
-
Yes, that's why I ranked out last season in a Monty despite getting to the top in DDs 3 times prior... The XP model still needs work as DDs work their @sses off for low rewards.
-
lel, when you get spotting damage via blinding your own team. That is entirely intentional and sensible as you've laid down smoke cover then you've sailed out to spot. It's the DDs who sit proud inside their smoke and the map is dark for everyone that's the issue
-
Oh god don't bring that up... The Number One DD facepalm: Front DD who is the spotter, goes into a cap. Smokes up then sits inside their own smoke therefore blinding the entire team.
-
Yes there's something wrong and it's likely the playbase's lack of understanding of the game. Your situation is a risky play that didn't pay off, radar should be treated with care as there's no escape other than island cover and getting out of it's range. Didn't help you were in a Z46 which is one of the fatter DDs. WG could possibly nerf down all radar ships so they have concealement matching their radar ranges so there's no stealth radar ambushes... The only thing I'd change about DDs is how they get their XP rewarded as you can play the game of your life but only finish mid table because of low damage totals.
-
Jesus these threads pop up on a daily basis... I'd say something about the general playerbase but it's mean. Ok DD are fine at higher tiers, just remember a few things: LOOK AT THE ENEMY LINE UP. If they have radar ships then know their ranges and durations, then until they are spotted on the other side of the map you EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. The radar range is your concealment range so remember it. Don't always rush into a cap first thing, I usually wait for the enemy DD to go in first as I'll have a better idea of where they are. Rememeber, going into a cap pretty much tells everybody where you are. Finally, ALWAYS have an escape route. Don't ever go into a cap or an engagement without some way of getting out. Whether that's smoke, island cover or simply sailing into concealment. CV games obviously change the way the dynamic works. You don't go alone as much. Sailing alone as a DD in a CV game is asking to be bombed... Have fun...

This is pretty much Hood summed up and I love mine equally. Will only say that any long time Warspite players will feel at home with Hood's guns, they are very similar but just lack that final bit of accuracy. Aiming them is essentially the same. The key to Hood is to outlast everyone else, with consistent guns and armour you need to take a game deeper so your damage totals can start to stack. Being a 32knot BB helps with this as you can switch flanks or push effectively.
-
Well of the few games I've played in her I enjoyed the experience. Although she's completely a glass cannon, I imagine people know exactly how squishy you are and will target you first. I'd also guess it'll be worse when the buffs come as you'll be a bigger threat if not killed quickly. But that's all part of the fun
-
As much as I love the Scharn, I prefer the effectiveness of a mid range BB. Brawlers are a bit all or nothing for my tastes. 8km secondaries are lulz in the right MM however as you can troll things like the Kami and even torp it back
-
Well a Massa (T8 USN Prem BB) smashed me for 28k thru an angled nose... An Alasce did 10k to me whilst heavily angled too.
-
The squishiness is real yes. Ashitaka can't even resist 15" AP when angled, don't even mention 16" Guns on things like a Missouri Clanmate of mine is convinced it'll be the top T7 BB when the buffs come. Personally I will still be in love with the Hood as she's the ultimate tank and has better concealment along with superior gun handling.
-
Well they are still 16" guns, I believe they're exactly the same as the Mutsu's guns. As in they shatter easier and seriously under perform vs BBs at longer range. At close ranges (10km or less) they're pretty much as good as full fat 16" AP. Again no quoting, I read it ages ago and from playing that's how they feel to me If the buffs do come then Ashitaka may well become King of T7 BBs as nothing else can resist what's essentially T8 firepower.
