British battleships incoming
RUSSIANBlAS replied to anonym_u5USg8CcK96I's topic in General Discussion
WG have said for awhile RN BB are this year... They also "claim" to be trying to solve the BB problem. Anyone who played last year and saw the injection of German BBs knows the BB population simply cannot go down when RN BB come out. I don't bother reading what WG staff post a lot of the time as you know it'll be spun/lies/random trolling sadly... -
I really cannot see a problem with Kaga's fighters. With Dogfighting Expert (if you think you will F up the occasional strafe) and the modules buffing them you're pretty much on par with Hiryu fighters. I don't feel particularly short changed, just normal IJN fighters that are meant as a distraction/self&fleet defence tool.
-
That's just WG and their meh game(s). Tanks has exactly the same issue with MM. Yes, there are a lot of "poor" players who will lose even as +2 tier but you're powerless vs say a Bismarck if you're in a Mutsu. Single tier MM (which Tanks does bless you with sometimes) would be pretty awesome here...
-
Is Cleve still tanky? I thought that was patched out long ago, blows up like any other Cruiser.
-
Yes, Warspite's zombie flesh regeneration and rudder make her special. Mutsu 16" guns hit as they should at about 10km or less. I find as an all round package, Mutsu works. She's still a big gun BB with a lot of HP and doesn't deviate much from the BB formula. Can't really explain it but the sum of the parts is decent.
-
If you want to get to R1 you'll have to spend/respec for Ranked. Every last advantage is needed sometimes...
-
I've realised that ships are quite hard to judge. As I personally feel Mutsu is fine as she is. Only issue I've come across is the rubbish long range pen but that's what troll HE is for. Coming from Warspite I don't feel Mutusu is really all that squishy but it all depends on what you like to play, how good you are (no offence to anyone intended) and how willing you are to working around a ship's strengths and weaknesses.
-
I think one thing folk might miss about the Dunkerque is that you can angle just off bow in and have 100% firepower. You'll be tanky and hard to hit. Plus her speed gives you the most flexibility out of the T6 BB pack. 330mm guns perform as well as the 356mm seen on things like the Arizona. Sure you get less barrels and you're less accurate but you can actually be somewhere in a reasonable time to make a difference.

Anshan feels very meh for some reason. It's a gimped Gremy basically. Doesn't have broken RU HE damage. Will have to see if Bayern guns are too derpy for competitive play. It has OP armour, the amount of dark red bits on the ship is silly for a T6.
-
Lel you'll still see the odd potato/scrub take Strike Indie I bet
-
I don't see CVs being strong at T6 Ranked. They've got small hangers and even the mediocre AA on T6 BBs can make them pay. In fact Manual AA on the Bayern is very underrated...
-
Issue with USN AS is that you need to be utterly flawless. One good Kaga torp strike essentially means you've done more damage than the AS CV will across an entire game.
-
T6 BBs are well balanced for their own tier. Almost all have their own strengths and nothing seems to stand out as OP or the go to BB.
-
As top or equal tier Mutsu armour is great. Has Warspite syndrome if you ask me. Stands up well when on top but there isn't much you can do vs say NC or Amagi except hope RNG favours you. I've been halved in my Mutusu plenty of times
-
Arizona is slow... Can never run away or change sides effectively. It punishes bad positioning. Can't always predict the course of a game. I do like the Arizona very much however as it's got well behaved guns yes.

Simplified damage model - more reliable gameplay -> better gameplay?
RUSSIANBlAS replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
WG does a poor job of educating. But the information is out there... I've recently learnt how to play WoT and literally watched hours of You Tube tutorials. Game shouldn't be dumbed down because lots never bother to learn it properly. It's just too bad if someone doesn't want to seek out readily available material. It's not a secret club where better players guard what they know... -
I usually position my two fighters by placing one on each flank about half way. That gives me an idea if I'm being sniped and covers my team of the other CV actually tries to bomb other ships. It works for me anyway... Kaga fighters aren't worthless, I don't feel they do much worse than fully upgraded Hiryu ones. Besides a Strike group can be blunted without killing every plane. Kaga's got pretty decent armour and 51k (I think) HP so you can resist damage fairly well. Sample size needs to be greater anyway as I haven't played enough of her.
-
The upcoming RN Gallant looks like a possible Ranked Choice. Balance of guns and 8km torps... Wallet Warriors Unite! I want to win Ranked in a BB but not sure what to take at T6 since they're all so evenly balanced. Maybe Dunkerque for it's speed, rate of fire and turret placement.
-
It's an enjoyable BB. The armour is certainly NOT squishy vs it's own tier. It deals with 14" guns extremely well as I imagine that's what the real one was roughly designed to do. Every T6 other than Bayern is going to suffer from 15"/16" guns greatly so Mutsu is no squisher than any other of her kin. Torp hits are more than possible since you can fire them so quickly. Just throw them out mid rudder shift and don't worry too much about targeting. The guns lose power at longer ranges but hit very hard when close up. Some may flame me but consider peppering enemy BBs at longer ranges with HE if they don't give you broadsides. It may surprise you how much HE spam stings them. Dunkerque is the best T6 BB for being shoved in constant T8 game I feel. It has speed and very effective turret placements. No other BB at T6 has Dunker's speed and you can simply run away & heavily angle vs big scary T8 BBs. Sure you might not survive ultimately but you'll last longer than any other T6 BB, maybe even long enough for your team to help you out.

Biggest issue with gauging how good Kaga is that most CV players (most players in general) are low skill... A Strike Ranger should NOT be beating a 2xTB Kaga and nor should any half decent CV with fighters be getting sniped. Seriously does no one play RTS games online? You always defend against a base rush.... I think those who are on the fence should consider buying Kaga before WG withdraws it and declares it as OP
-
Bought Kaga earlier because I had some extra £ needing to be burnt... It is possibly OP. Fighters are not a problem, as long as you are used to IJN 2xFighters on Hiryu then they perform in a very similar fashion. Don't forget you'll probably have Dogfighting Expert and that Fighter Buff module to narrow the gap. It's DB is actually very good, it rewards precision and won't let you down nearly as much as other DB because it has a TINY hit circle. Which means you land bombs on what you want to bomb, sure the damage is weak but its the DoT from fire you want. But the main source of power is the Torp Bombers. They're frankly a bit stupid... The 3 wide then 3 close spread means that even Defensive Fire AA will not stop you landing a few hits if that's how you wish to roll. Two of these TB makes the Alpha of Kaga utterly stunning and there's not a T7 CV that can get anywhere close to you. That alone is enough for the cries of OP to be understood. It's a bit cruel to one shot BBs who don't understand WASD but perhaps they deserve it? Yes, as I anticipated: Kaga will have some difficulty vs good CVs and AS builds but nothing that any other IJN CV won't have seen before. I feel a little dirty buying it as I've bought into WG's bullcr@p about CV re-works and no OP Prems etc
-
Kaga looks bad for game balance as if they buff every CV in line with Kaga strike power then it'll lead to impossible CV whine from the BB players
-
I want to buy Kaga to harvest potatoes but the principle of buying into the dodgy CV ecosystem...
-
Arty rework in Tanks is better than being one shotted, although being HE permi tracked is bull too... Ah I might have to get Kaga even if it'll fail vs good CV players. The epic strike potential is lul, watching videos of people easily 1 shotting ships. Now the real question is do WG dare nerf it if it over performs?
-
They should remove auto drops all together... That would teach the less skilled CV players to simply start playing them properly
