World of Warships & Steam Play

Ok, some news: the game is playable! Just barely, but... First of all, make sure you have your steam client & Steam Play all patched up. I tested with Proton 3.7-4 Beta, and the game was "playable" (between 30 and 40 fps on low quality settings) at 1080p. Also, update your graphics drivers as per the instructions on the https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/blob/proton_3.7/PREREQS.md. I also had to rename a file https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/143025-for-steam-players-easy-log-in-with-existing-account-fix/ so that I could log in with my existing account. My system is... quite strange. I'm still running with a Phenom II X4 955 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a Radeon 580 GPU. This can make the game run quite well on Windows, but the fact that I'm even able to play it on Linux at all without too much hassle is a step up. I'll end my monologue now!

World of Warships & Steam Play

Hello, everyone. As you may or may not know, Steam has launched Steam Play, a new compatibility layer based on a new software mashup called Proton. What this does is, it adds a new compatibility layer for windows games so that they can be played on Linux with little to no effort required, and it's based on Vulkan to boot! At the moment, the officially supported list of games is a little on the short side, but they say you can enable this compatibility layer for all games. See where I'm going? Yes, I installed World of Warships through steam on Linux and tried to make it run. Unfortunately, it seems that it doesn't work yet. I got a crash like the one attached. So, as of now, this means that it can't be played, but I'll try to fiddle with this a little bit. IIRC, WoWS could be run on Linux via wine, but it required a special version of windows in the configuration for it to run. Of course, everyone's welcome to try and share their experiences with this brave new tool. I'll keep you updated. Until then, safe seas!

    The Carrier Problem

Great topic, Das. As a player that enjoys CVs from time to time, I definitely found out about most of the things that you describe. As has been noted, one gripe that I have is that all AA mounts are added to the AA power calculation, regardless of their angle of fire. That, and the fact that ships with dual-purpose main battery can use it as AA and still keep shooting at other surface ships. Maybe one thing to try would be that, when locked on a squad of planes, all AA mounts (including dual-purpose main battery guns) with a direct line of fire to the target would start spamming shells like there was no tomorrow. Make this a very clear visual indication, a veritable flak cloud like the ones you see in historical pics (which also look incredibly cool).

Extra consumable for Yamato, and maybe Montana

Disclaimer: I'm a potato, so take any and all arguments contained here with a healthy dose of salt. I'm argue against this. The Yamato has the absurdly powerful guns that can punch though almost anything and are accurate to boot. The Montana has been, is and probably will continue to be the competitive TierX BB of choice due to an absurdly heavy broadside that is painfully accurate. In the correct hands, it can delete almost anything if it even shows itself. If anything, I'd say the only thing to do is make all other BBs have a reliable-to-hit citadel

Gender-based pronouns are such a pain in the rear... I'm not too well versed in the naval terms in Spanish, but I'd say it's even more complicated, as it may even vary with the class the ship belongs to. While I'd say "el destructor" for a destroyer, a frigate would be "la fragata", a cruiser is "el crucero de batalla" and a battleship "el acorazado". For example, Columbus' ships are all referred to with feminine pronouns (La Pinta, la Niña y la Santa María") but the navy has a training ship called "Juan Sebastián Elcano" which would be referred to with a masculine pronoun. Madness.

In every corner of the Internet, there's a group of people dedicated to raging and crying and being stupid. That's a fact... but yeah, these people have gone way too far. Besides, even though I actually don't play KC, I still like to look at the designs... and Intrepid seems quite fine to me. Thick? Yes, bring it on.

Agreed, KanColle Season 1 was... meh? Passable? Good entertainment overall, but nothing to rock the anime world. The movie was definitely better, though, because it introduced some semblance of story at the very least. Whether that story was good or not lies in the eye of the beholder! It would be fun if they tried to introduce boats from other nations, I think. Warspite-Kongo hijinks, for example.

    Old Sound Mod Converter

Would this enable the recovery of the Arpeggio voiceovers?

    IPv6 support

Hello, everyone. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows whether the game's servers support IPv6 or run just with IPv4. I've had disconnect issues and I suspect that my ISP has just activated an IPv6 path that... isn't too reliable when doing the translation back to IPv4. Thanks!

    CA(Heavy Cruiser) Rebalance Ideas

I agree on the idea of giving heal to every heavy cruiser out there. Caliber equal or greater than 203mm? --> Heal. In my opinion, heavy cruisers should be all about staying power. Let light cruisers be DPM monsters, dakka-dakka all they want, but be easily killed. I think it's a fair trade if heavy cruisers are able to withstand more punishment than their light counterparts. This would also go well if there is, at any time, an american cruiser line split. Move Pensacola to tier VI, add the Wichita, and suddenly I think the American CA line would make more sense. Also, please add the St. Louis class, because the americans also should have their own Mogami for shits and giggles!

He just means that he'd rather them have their rigging (funnels, weapons, etc) to consider them a good cosplay / shipgirls.

Both of them are beautiful! Although I presonally prefer the Arpeggio version more. Classy, badass.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding captains, not ships. So you could have Kongou captained and voiced over by Kongou from Kancolle, etc. Maybe it would require some tweaking, but if you could make a captain for one specific ship only, you'd be golden. Most of the cost would be the voiceover, I guess.
