Dev blog 9.12 the good and the bad

Just read that again mate. One. Hundred. Seventy. One. Dollars. For a single pixel ship. Like....what..... If some people have too much money to spend and are willing to pay these amounts, by all means go ahead. The fact that Wargaming can ask these prices means enough people are willing to pay. I'll confess that I've paid more than that amount on this game over the past five years. But never for a single ship. Can you blame Wargaming for going this route when obviously it is financially viable?

QFT It would be sooooooooooo incredibly beneficial for this game when wargaming just takes the worst performing 25% of the playerbase by the hand and shows them how the basics work.

Havent you played the game lately? It seems like most of the players currently do not want to win to the point where it is beyond inability. It is sheer reluctance to be somewhat competetive in a game. Full blown solo sailing simulator 2020 behavior. Yet it will yield the same problems we face today. Players sabotaging games for their own interest. Do you know why some players rush in and die every game? Because they get more xp and credits playing 10 games an hour like this than when they play 3 "normal" games. That is the issue here. Lets assume im in the expert bracket here. To stay there I have to play my best game every time. If I cant, due to playing a ship im not good at, I drop down. Now why would I want that? So no, there is no incentive for me to play weak ships. Each bracket will have a meta, just like in ranked and clanbattles. Making the game stale. Now it is exactly how it should be: Random. I can play random ships against random people. Sorry Camperdown, but how can you not understand how such a thing would turn out: If you put all current 60% SOLO wr players in teams against each other, everyone will eventually stagnate around 50% wr. It is simply how math works.......... Or they get tired of having to play their best game every game and they drop down a bracket, until eventually they'll have a 50% WR there as well. It is not fun. It kills the game. I dont want the stress of clan battles. Random is the standard play type for leisure games. Matchmaking is perfect as it is, too bad the playerbase gets increasingly worse as time goes by. Just to be clear: I hate rofl stomps as much as the next guy. But its not the fault of matchmaking. Its completely WARGAMINGS fault for the way they designed the reward-system in this game. Financially its brilliant. Thousands and thousands of cashcows addicted to buying the next best shiny ship. But over the years you get increasingly more totally inadequate captains in high tier ships. That is the root of the problem. Not matchmaking. Not the unicums. Not the average joes. No, its wargaming selling their products to these inexperienced players without properly teaching them their game.

Oh you sweet summer child... I wish they could implement your proposal for lets say...a month. It would actually be funny to watch. So the placement or ranking within your system is based on winning and losing aka winrate. So winrate is the best indicator of a players' skill? A lot of people on this forum have argued otherwise since its too easy to rig. What happens if you put all current 35% player in a pool and let them fight amongst each other? Hey presto, they all get more or less 50% wr. Sounds great right? They've gained 15% more winrate! Everyone loves winning more games. However, in the long run all players will be in their own league having 50% WR's. At that point it doesnt matter how bad they play, eventually they'll face an equally abysmal team. What would prevent me from intentionally losing my way down to the noobs, so I could enjoy an epic winstreak back up to the pros, rinse and repeat? The matchmaking will still put random players in a team albeit from a smaller group. Players will still complain: "I lost 10 times in a row because matchmaking put me in the losing team. Its unfair.". Or should such a scenario be impossible because this player is fighting same skill opposition only? Which would imply the results over the long run are predetermined. It's different in clanbattles where you participate as a team. Its different in ranked due to the progression system and starsaving system. But most of all: Where is the incentive to try and win? Where is the incentive to learn from your mistakes and get better? If i win I get "rewarded" with tougher opposition. Why would I want that when I just want to chill out after a hard days work. If I want to test my skill I can play clanbattles and/or ranked battles and/or third party tournaments such as KotS. Why would a new player try to learn new tricks to become that great player? I learned a lot by playing with and against way better players. How will you ever learn those things as a beginner with an ELO system in place? Or do you get more XP/credits when playing amongst pro's? Imagine the outrage lol. "I should be in 5th tier but matchmaking keeps putting me in bad teams so im stuck in 4th tier.". Or do all tiers get the same amount of credits/xp? Because then i could just lose games on purpose and farm some easy credits/xp down with the beginners. So if you can only play during the morning/night its too bad. Sadly the system only works during the afternoon/evening when most people are online. Or be prepared to wait half of the night for a few games. Yikes. What would be a players' incentive to play one of their "bad" ships that hurts their rating in the elo system? So those players who are good at the game and who like winning get rewarded by playing amongst themselves and .....win less? Okay. But what is the reward for reaching that? All an ELO system does is making a casual gamemode "Randoms" less casual by implementing a zero sum game behind it. With skill-based matchmaking, players are exposed to nothing but difficult matches. There is only one match style: intense, difficult, and sweaty. Would you like that? Ofcourse you do. You play solo. You are average. All it would do is remove divisions, the better and the worse players out of your games. But that doesnt mean it works the same for all other players. Some of us like to play in divisions with friends which would be no longer possible.

  9. GarrusBrutus

    1000 karma

Most matchmaking screenshots I see tells me that by far the most players have zero karma. So despite karma not being any useful indicator, reaching the thousand karma threshold does tell us that OP is both a good player and a non-toxic player.

When does camping become a problem?

In the screenshot I see three teammates without clantags, which most likely means they've never even heard of the word "teamplay". Besides, your team already has two caps, so no need to push for a third at the time of dying (which means your team had a points advantage). At that point there was no need for you to tank damage but you could go back to the classic camp & spam playstyle. In this instance I would have tried to get into a firing position behind that island, let my teammates tank and spot so I could farm damage. The enemies were down on points and had to push at some point.

When does camping become a problem?

When your teams needs you to tank some damage and you stay hidden for the enemy team. Preferably try to find a DD that is able and willing to communicate with you. Having a DD teammate who understands the benefit of teamplay and the synergy it provides with light cruisers makes all the difference in the world. Sometimes a friendly DD providing smoke early game can be game changing by enabling you to get into aggressive positions. The best version of this is ofcourse a division mate who you are on comms with. Also, do not play one single strategy on each map. For example a Worcester can be really strong on the flank, kiting a strong enemy force. Even a mino kiting on the flank can be a big nuisance for the enemy team. Ofcourse its stupid to get yourself deleted early on. That would be a waste of your ship. But look at it like a trade-off: If you have a low hp teammate under fire and you are still full hp behind a rock, it could be useful to present your own ship as a more juicy target for the enemies so that your teammate might get shot less and survive. Ofcourse this is risky business since you might just offer yourself on a silver platter as a second free kill for the enemies, but the message I am trying to convey here is that even light cruisers can tank using WASD-keys and they too can trade HP in a positive way. I've head matches in Worcester where I tanked more than 2 million potential damage by continiously kiting the enemies and using WASD. It is hard to master but most certainly possible. Golden rule here is that your HP becomes more valuable the longer a match lasts. Trade some of it at the start to get an enemy DD killed? Great trade. Trade most of it to get an enemy DD lightly damaged? Bad trade.

Why I didn't get into the game.

Because that makes the game more enjoyable.... How exactly? Besides: DDs now have to deal with SAP shells, more stealth radar, and they're already the class that detonates the most. How is drastically nerfing them gonna do anything useful?

Why can't I disable Direct Messages?

Same applies to words as "racist", "sexist" and others being thrown around like candy. Some smacktalking really gives the game flavor in my opinion. It feels extremely rewarding when I finally kill that opponent who called me a camper/coward/etc. Yet I do not feel like that guy was being toxic. He just added a little more flavor to my kill.

Wow wow wow, calm down. I am not THAT toxic...... yet

Why can't I disable Direct Messages?

Because its fun. Its a fun game to play and its fun dealing with raging people on the internet. What can they do to you? Nothing. Someone taking time to write you a loving message means you made them rage. I love that.

DD Hatsuharu can't get the hang of it

Revisited the hatsuharu after a few years and I still hate it. The ship is so reliant on enemy lineup and them being straight lining pepegas. I prefer gunboat DDs or hybrids because then you can do *stuff* regardless of what matchmaking throws at you.

    my stats ?

Very low avg kills. This means you probably try to maximize your damage by only shooting big targets. But more often than not, even 2k on a DD or 5k on a cruiser can be more important to win a match. It could also mean that you sit too far back.

CB Season 11 : Feedback & Discussions topic.

You're forgiven, young padawan. Jokes aside, even without CVs the meta would still be incredibly boring due to cyclones.
  21. 457mm BB broke CAs. Played a few rounds with hindenburg. So much fun against thunderer, ohio, kremlin, etc. Muhhhh angling, such skill. Oh and even more fun when a thundelel outspots you so youre either forces to sit bow in or give broadside. HAHAHAHA. Desmoines is still really good but for some reason my teams are cursed. Apparently 140k avg + 2kills avg isnt enough. :(

CB Season 11 : Feedback & Discussions topic.

Then why implement them at all? If a gaming company knows its customers don't like a feature of its game, yet still they implement it.... Seems really odd. The big issue is that clans in typhoon/hurricane mostly field really skilled players. A really skilled cv player is such a huge factor in this 7v7 gamemode. In lower leagues less so since the cv player and his team have less ability to capitalize on mistakes. But in higher leagues this creates a really stagnate and boring game as noone dares to make a single mistake. A solution to this might be to disallow fielding cvs once a clan reaches typhoon league.
